History

Origins

Yayoi dosn't have many memories of her life before her capture, but those few memories she does have are precious to her and she never shares them. She knows she was born in Doma to a loving mother who looked much as she does now. Her father died fighting Imperials somewhere shortly after she was born, and she can't seem to remember either of their names. Her own name is something she thought of herself. refusing to tell her captors her real name, and refusing to go by the name they gave her, she decided to make her own. Yayoi Dijiki sounded silly and light hearted, something she didn't have much of in her life at the time, so she wore it like a badge, proudly announcing herself any time she felt down in an attempt to pep herself back up. Many a times would she annoy her captors by ruining whatever they were trying to have her do, then standing up and shouting 'Yayoi Dijiki!' like it was her own little warcry.

Before Dalamud's Fall

Yayoi remembers the day it happened like it was yesterday, probably because she relives it in her nightmares so often. At the age of twelve, she was accompanying her mother into the village market, exploring the stalls and enjoying the day spent tasting new fruits and sweets. Then, rather suddenly, she heard a bell. The moment the bell started ringing, the world around her erupted into panicked action. Adults were running here and there as children cried and huddled together. The Buduga had come. Known for their raids on other tribes and villages, the Buduga tribe sought to expand their numbers the same way they always did, kidnapping the females of other tribes. Villagers ran for shelter as the few defenders were quickly cut down by the more war-like tribe. At this point, the attackers went from killing to capturing. Xaela males on horseback swooped in to pick up anyone they could get their hands on. Yayoi herself quickly became a target as one large male bore down on her, but her mother stepped forward. Grabbing a spade from a near by merchants stall, she swong as hard as she could, taking the attacker on the temple and sending him to the dirt.
He, however, was only one of many, and a woman who would stand and fight them would simply be to much trouble. Backed against a wall, Yayoi had to watch as the attackers turn towards them and rather quickly cut down her mother in front of her. She screamed in fear and loss as she was tossed across the saddle of a horse and taken from the village she had always known.

After Dalamud's Fall

Yayoi proved to be to young for the purposes of her captors, and the idea of feeding a mouth that wasn't contributing didn't suit well to the tribe. She and several others, however, could still be an asset. It didn't take long to sell the young and infirm to a group of slavers. Her new 'guardians' saw her age as a boon. She could be taught and trained from a young age and sold for even more down the road. Herself and the others were split into categories, labor slaves, house and staff slaves, and her group, pleasure slaves. At a young age they began to attempt to train the young girl to serve with her body, she, however, resisted. That got painful, of course. Resistance usually led to beatings and other punishments. To survive, she came to a compromise, accepting the things that wouldn't really hurt her, like learning to act like a lady or learning how to dress or write, while still stubbornly resisting other training.

This came to a head when she rather loudly refused to call anyone 'Master.' She stood up proud, clenched her fists and yelled something rather unflattering to his face before screaming out her warcry, 'Yayoi dijiki!' He was livid. She had embarrassed him in front of the other slaves and his peers, and he was damned tired of hearing her shout that asinine name every time she thought she had accomplished something. In a fit of rage, he pulled the young girl across the chair, pulled his boot knife and without hesitation or any form of pain control, casually dragged the blade across her neck, cutting deep enough to sever her vocal cords. Her resistance faded greatly after that, the fear of being harmed or killed having been rather effectively installed in her, and without the ability to shout her defiance, or her little war cry, her spirit faded.

After years of training and preparation, when she was almost seventeen, Yayoi was sold to a wealthy merchant in Ul'dah. She was submissive and demure as she was brought home, but whatever happened once she got there changed her. The merchants servants say the master of the house pulled her into his bedroom and closed the door. They heard the girl scream in fear and pain as well as the laughing of their patron. Then, a moment later, his scream, which was quickly cut off. The merchant was found with his throat torn out, and the girl was seed fleeing the room, her mouth and chin covered in blood. She had used her teeth to kill her owner.

LL Since that night, Yayoi has lived on the streets, stealing and hiding to live. She don't let people near her unless she intends to steal from them. However, she seems to consider somethings value entirely by how shiny it is, leading to several skilled thefts of things that simply were not worth stealing. One such treasure ended up being an egg warmer holding a chocobo egg. When it hatched, she, in her own head, named the green feathered bird, 'Cookies'. The two have been a pair since. Any time Yayoi gets in trouble or is afraid, she lets out a whistle and what seems to be a feral chocobo charges in, claws and beak at the ready to defend the young girl.

Recent History

Recently, Yayoi was caught by those seeking revenge for the family of the merchant she killed. Cornered and alone in the Goblet, she let out a whistle and her partner in crime came to her rescue. As Cookies fought off her attackers she turned and ran, only to run into a second assailant. He lashed out at her, sliding into her side. The young girl fell from upper path down to the lower, crawling away, trying to escape, she happened onto the property of the Ascendant Dawn. The group seems to have patched up and welcomed the young girl among them, though her story remains unknown to them, and her thieving has caused a few rifts.

PLOT INFORMATION

Yayoi is slowly trying to learn how to exist as more then just a street thief, while trying to find a way to be useful to members of the Dawn, her new family. This does not always go well, and has led to a few minor clashes between herself and those she cares for who seem to think stealing is wrong.
