Character

Appearance

Ysobel is short for an Elezen, standing at a hair above 6 falms. The first thing most people notice is her beauty and her light blue skin and sparkling eyes that look almost like crystals. She is formal and reserved with strangers, but not unfriendly; however, this is often seen as coldness or discarded as typical Elezen arrogance, and few take the time to get to know her better - something she rarely goes out of her way to make easier.

Even upon striking up a conversation, Ysobel seems surrounded by a very strong barrier, as if she is keeping herself walled-away. If her interlocutor gets past her beauty - which she does her best to ignore, as well as any compliments relating to it - they will often see a deep sadness in her eyes and her smile, as if she were somehow afraid fully to partake of whatever was the cause of the smile, knowing how fleeting the joys of this world are.

People who have known her for a while may notice that over the last few weeks, the many scars of years of combat that criss-crossed almost all visible areas of her skin have all but vanished, except for one particularly prominent cut down the middle of her forehead. She also has some bright, almost luminescent facial tattoos.

Behavior

As mentioned above, Ysobel is very reserved, at times seeming almost shy. She is almost always formal, has a tendency to be overly polite, and treats others with respect. At social gatherings, she is known to consume prodigious quantities of alcohol, easily capable of drinking even hardened roegadyn under the table, without showing the usual signs of slurring, unsteadiness or lack of judgement - at first. There seems to be one sudden point at which the glass comes that makes her overflow, and she is then likely suddenly to catch up and behave like a very drunk person indeed, with all that entails.

With those she has chosen to give her loyalty or her friendship, not something she does easily, or often, she is fiercely loyal, and unwavering in her support. The same attitude extends to her behaviour in combat, where she will unfailingly stand at the forefront of the fight, putting as much of herself in between those at her back and their foes, and will unflinchingly draw the anger of as many as she can upon herself without regard for health or limb.

Combat

General

There is little official documentation of Ysobel's combat history. Those who follow the gladiatorial fights in the arenas of Ul'dah may remember a "Blue Maiden", whose face was always hidden behind a full helm, and who was decent enough with a short glaive and shield. Some rumours have it that the "maiden" in question may have been, in fact, she. What is known is that Ysobel put down her arms at one point and travelled to Gridania, where she spent some time learning the more peaceful arts of Conjuration. Eventually, she returned to Ul'dah and was accepted for training as a Free Paladin by the Sultansworn. Currently, she is near the end of her training, having already earned her crown, and all her armour save for the breastplate.

Combat Assignments

As a Free Paladin, Ysobel takes her rĂ´le as seriously as she appears to take every other aspect of life (some might uncharitably add "including herself"), and tends to roam the lands, in search of those in need, or of evil to root out, wherever they may be found or she may be called to.

If there is one area where she is seen more often than others, it is on the routes around and between Limsa Lominsa and the vineyards at Wineport, where she either assists in the defense of villages or protection of caravans from bandits, under the command of Ser Lanadon Brightblade.

Relationships

Family

Ysobel is remarkably guarded about her family, and very little is known about them. Her father was clearly a Miner, as is attested by her last name (cf. Clan Estremont). She had a sister (deceased), whose name is unknown, as is her mother's.

Friends

Ysobel has few friends, but those she has, she holds dear, and would give her last shirt, at the least, and her life, if called upon, for them. Most of them are members of the Free Company in whose employ she is when she is not roaming free, the Salts of Rhotano. Ysobel is not one to drop names, assuming that either you know her well enough to know who her other friends are, or else you have no need to know. Knowing someone's friends and family, she believes, is tantamount to possessing a weapon against that person.

Enemies

Aside from those beings currently plaguing Eorzea, and who are thus enemy to everyone, Ysobel is not aware of anyone who would bear her personal ill-will.

Not anymore.

As with all rumours, any or all of these may be true or false - but they clearly started somewhere...
