An Elezen from Aldenard, Zarathustra never considered herself a native of any Eorzea's known nations. Born to nomadic merchants in Coertha's Western Highlands, adventuring came naturally to her through her curiosity and restless desire to keep moving. Always curious and active, she used every moment she wasn't melding for her parents' business exploring as much as she could.
As goldsmiths and jewelers, her parents went to great lengths to secure gems and ores from Ishgardian miners to sell in Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah, often times resulting in deals they could not repay. Knowing they would not follow their daughter to the forbidden Dravania, her parents sent her away with her elderly grandfather for her safety. On the eve of her thirteenth birthday, they said their goodbyes and walked her to the Dravanian border. She never saw them again.
Teenage ❧
It was there in the chocobo forests that her grandfather, Gairovald, discovered her potential for magick-- a trait that has since dwindled through the generations of the Dacaryns.
Having led an academic life, Gairovald used all the knowledge and resources at his disposal to bring Zarathustra up as a mage; she excelled in thaumaturgy and arcane magick, and diligently worked on her weaker healing abilities, even spending some summers in Gridania after Gairovald put in a good word for her at the Conjurer's guild.
Present ❧
At twenty years old, two years before the calamity, Zara halted her studies in Gridania and returned to Dravania after receiving news that her grandfather had fallen ill. She cared for him until that winter, when Gairovald was put to rest.
Before Gairovald passed, he bequeathed her the Dacaryn's grimoires, containing knowledge and magick dating back to when dragonkind and man lived as equals. She learned that her family name, Dacaryn, was once of draconian roots-- Dracaryn.
With this, she departed for Ul'dah for the opportunity to become an adventurer roaming the desert hills of Thanalan. Alone, with a thirst to continue her travels across Eorzea and the world, she knew this life was her chance to find purpose and move on.
