Appearance

Piercing blue eyes stare, revealing no emotion. Coal black tresses hang down past her shoulders, usually tied in a ponytail in classic Doman fashion. Tone, supple muscles flex with taut precision as she moves, reflecting an economy of movement that’s practiced and ingrained into muscle memory. Small scars are strewn about her body, slight things swiftly stitched and healed with magicks and barely visible even up close. Her clothing is loose fitting and allows for maximum mobility, even if it shows a little skin on occasion. She is always armed. Daggers are usually strapped to her belt, and her fingers rarely stray far from their comfortable grips. If the daggers aren’t there, one can guarantee a greatsword or bow will be strapped to her back. Her expressions rarely stray from a neutral, considering gaze or investigatory glare.

Voice: Haruka's voice is an unremarkable alto, seeming to fade into the background of a room with little problem.

Clothing: Haruka's clothing is versatile, made for both use and to fit into her surroundings. She is always able to move about with ease in case combat comes up. Despite this, Haruka seems to prefer flowing garments, or ones that are open in front to contrast with her emotionless appearance.

Personality

Haruka is simultaneously impulsive and cautious, trusting and suspicious. She prefers to think and plan, but forgets to do so when the objective is in sight. She’s idealistic to a fault, but often forces herself to expand her understanding and bend those ideals to further understand the world. She’s a capable student of the martial arts and desires to learn more, but she has little experience with magic or academics, as she’s found herself increasingly at a disadvantage around thaumaturgists and scholars. She cares to own little beyond the very essential: clothing, food, and weaponry necessary for following her calling.

Birth and Youth

Haruka was born to Eadwynn Forrester of Gridania and a Doman man known only as Katsuyori in 1554 of the sixth astral era. Eadwynn was a hunter of some significant skill when Katsuyori arrived in the Twelveswood, and the mysterious man swiftly fell in love with her. In spite of their apparent differences, their marriage occurred four years after their initial meeting in a forest glade, and their first child was born less than a year later.

In spite of both parents being incredibly active members of the Gridanian community, they maintained a very active role in her life. Eadwynn taught her much of surviving the wilderness, using the bow, and the Gridanian way of life. Katsuyori’s lessons were taught in much the same vein: the ways of the knife and the two-handed sword, stealth, and even the Doman language (a secret kept between them). Both parents were stern but loving, and they understood when her natural talents leaned away from the bow and hunting.

When Haruka was fourteen, Katsuyori sat her down and gave her a lesson regarding her heritage and birthright as a shinobi. She failed her first test, and she was severely injured by the trial. Her diligence won out, and by the time she was seventeen years old, she passed her tests and was ready to begin studying more of the more esoteric ninja arts.

The Calamity stalled those ambitions. When the dust had settled, Haruka and Katsuyori had survived, but the Eadwynn was left with a wasting sickness that not even the conjurers could cure. She passed within the moon, leaving Haruka with her last words: “Remember your purpose.” She was confused by these words, and looked to her father for advice.

Katsuyori, unfortunately, was unable—-or unwilling—-to clarify Eadwynn’s words. He didn’t have the time to help Haruka find an answer, either. Always a paranoid person, he began jumping at shadows for seemingly little reason, leading him to extended time away from home seeking whatever it was he sought. Left to her own devices, Haruka attempted to help her community: the rebuilding effort was immense, and every able-bodied individual was needed. Afterward, Haruka did odd jobs around the Twelveswood: a scouting mission here, a leatherworker’s job there.

Adulthood

In the first year of the seventh astral era, Haruka (still unmarried and giving no inclination toward such frippery) came home to the house she shared with her father to find it burning. She rushed into the inferno to find her father and found him face-down on the floor with a dagger in his back. Knowing her time was short, she took the dagger and the special gemstone he carried with him and hurried out before suffocation could claim her.

Haruka left Gridania the following day, the lust for vengeance in her heart. She’s been traveling from place to place ever since.

Family & Friends 💘   Yari no Suna A Spearmaiden from Othard, Haruka met Suna sometime ago and has gone to her for help many times. Haruka trusts her with her own life and more, but she's unsure regarding the intensity of her own feelings regarding the Au Ra. Regardless, there is a strong pull for Haruka, and whenever Suna is in the room, Haruka is near her. 💑   Ailerana A constant companion, Ailerana and Haruka couldn't be more different in ways, but they find themselves drawn to one another. They're mutual willingness to work through problems has led them down dangerous paths that only brought them closer together. ●   L'Rinhi Kett L'Rinhi took Haruka and Serenity in when they had no place to go after an incident with the voidsent Tryxlia. She asked no recompense, and Haruka found her admission to helping them in spite of some feelings to be not only refreshing but admirable. Since Haruka left L'Rinhi's service, they have not spoken. ●   Osha Tayuun One of the first people Haruka talked to in Ul'dah when she arrived, Osha was more than happy to help her try to find a place to live and people to meet. While the initial attempts did not work as intended, their continued meetings have been refreshing for the Hyur. ●   Seika The plain-spoken Au Ra met Haruka outside the Quicksand one evening, and they hit it off quickly. Their Doman heritage made for quick conversation, and Haruka tried to help the woman out. ●   Serenity Maescia Serenity and Haruka fell for each other almost instantly when Haruka offered to stand with her. The relationship fell apart a mere two months later, due to complications Haruka does not speak of. Since then, however, she's made up with Serenity, and they've addressed the issues between them to become friends again. Haruka's Commissions None yet!
