However, this is not and entirely benevolent, competitive interest in martial arts-- Shou likes the power trip of completely dominating another creature. and the thrill of being pushed to the brink of death herself, only to return. She's far from suicidal, her interest in death is more mischievous: having experienced the journey of dying down to the last second before her soul departed her body, Shou sees death as a line set by the highest power, and she delights in teasing Nald'Thal by getting as close to it as possible. She's pretty good at it. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, Shou doesn't like killing. Maiming, certainly. Trickery, terror and pain are her favorite tools in the practice of battlecraft, but she finds no joy in the act of murder itself, like a cat letting a petrified mouse run free after she has exhausted its' potential for merrymaking.</font></div> | |

[edit]
Shou Lushan is a career Thaumaturge and freelance Archaeologist, who bears the custom-tuned, Animus-enabled suit of Allagan powered armor "Hawkmoth" into battle.
Shou Lushan is a short, slightly overweight Miqo'Te, with slate-gray skin, and black hair, highlighted with orange. Shou generally appears frazzled, with head and tail hair shaggy and mussed, and her choice of clothing is typically slightly wrinkled with smudges and spots, and usually repaired several times. Her body hosts a frankly concerning number of scars, and several appear to modified for either magical or ritual purposes: with cleaner cuts and aetheroconductive tattooing applied to the scar tissue to form magical arrays. Her left ear flops over itself about halfway up and doesn't always keep up with her right as they pivot towards sound. She favors dark cosmetics for everyday wear, including black lipstick, and a large stripe of charcoal painted across her eyes to protect her nocturnal vision from some of the light from the sun.
Owing perhaps to her numerous and bizarre experiences throughout her life, Shou comes across as a bizarre, but committed individual. Devoted to the gang of misfits she cavorts with and the solidarity between them, Shou values principles of honor, harmony, and generosity. Unlike most scholars of antiquity, instead of becoming cynical or waxing romantic about the fallen civilizations of Eorzean history, her studies into the-- often apocalyptic-- Shou views history with a sort of pragmatic hope that drives both her curiosity and her adoption and reconfiguration of ancient techniques. She's a driven idealist, placing trust in the goodness of people, and answers with spite and vindictive force when that trust is betrayed. A trained mercenary raised in Pearl Lane, she tends to need to be convinced of the value of authority, otherwise regarding it with skepticism or bland contempt. Literary and driven by scholarly knowledge, she regards endeavors of the mind and soul with enthusiasm, and has a tendency to gush about metaphysical mechanics and thought to an often baffled audience, even quoting and translating centuries-old philosophical esoterica at length. However, despite her intellectual nature, her typical manner of speaking is coarse and direct, and tact seems to be a secondary concern, and often considered as an afterthought.
