Niklas is a swordsman, more specifically a Gladiator. He has been taught in the way of the sword since he was little by his father, the king. He also tries to be proficient with other weapons. An unique trait inherited from her mother is the ability to use white magic, now unlocked since he started to become a Conjurer as well.

- He does not have a good tolerance of wine. A good example is him being drunk at the Harbinger's Tavern Night after drinking a whole bottle of wine.
- He tends to speak formally every now and then, a consequence of being noble. He is still trying to talk casually.

- He is one of the youngest members, if not the youngest, of the Harbingers of Dawn, at 17.
- He becomes extremely nervous when talking to beautiful women. Example is when he first met Anstarra and felt like it was getting hot in the cottage tavern they were in.

Family
- Rena Gran: Niklas's younger sister. After being separated from her brother, her location is currently unknown, but finding her is one of Niklas's goals.
- Croix Gran: An extremely talented Paladin, and Niklas and Rena's late father. He fell in battle to Gaius during the invasion.
- Selene Gran: A benevolent and pure-hearted White Mage, and Niklas and Rena's mother. She met Croix one day when she was attacked by monsters, and he saved her. Together they defeated a huge monster that has been terrorizing their home, and eventually they fell in love and married.
Friends
- Anstarra Silverain: Love Interest. Niklas met this Mi'qote in the cottage tavern during Tavern Night. While he was getting less drunk from drinking a whole bottle of wine, he fell in love with her, although this is currently one-sided.
- Verad Bellveil: Fellow friend with great standing. An Elezen who sells "dubious goods" and one of Niklas's close friends in the company.
- Faye Covington: The Support Saint of the Harbingers of Dawn. When she first appeared to Niklas, he saw her as nice and benevolent, although he is currently oblivious to her true nature.
- Ahri Naeba: Fellow friend with great standing. A female Pugilist, the bartender for the Harbingers' tavern on Thursdays, and a fellow Martial Archon to Niklas.
- Worren Tigre: Friendly rival and roommate. Niklas has found a friendly rival in this Miqo'te Monk when they showed each others' skills on the practice dummies. He aspires to at least reach his level of skill, even though Worren does not use his sword as good as him.
- Z'zhumii umi: Fellow friend with great standing. Called "Umi" by Niklas, he worried about this Mi'qote's wine tolerance when he first met her on Tavern Night.
- Val Nunh: Neutral standing. This Mi'qote is the leader of the Harbingers of Dawn's Martial Branch, who is not the best with Niklas in terms of friendship. Niklas is actually a little annoyed with his attitude, but keeps it to himself so he doesn't get on his bad side.

Adventures in Eorzea
Starting Off
While adventuring in Ul'dah, he met a couple of notable people, and kept having strange visions of the Crystal and the goddess Hydaelyn. Eventually, he faced off against a mysterious black mage later revealed to be an Ascian, a Bringer of Chaos. During the battle, when Niklas was almost down for the count, his latent power activated, and he instantly became healed and stronger, defeating the mage and his demon with ease. To celebrate for his deeds, he was invited to the banquet when he had another vision of the battle five years ago. Afterwards, he was sent out to be an envoy for Ul'dah, visiting the leaders of Limsa Lominsa and Gridania to unite them. Later in Old Gridania, after learning about the healing power in him, he then set out to become a Conjurer in order to utilize that power to good use.
