General Information
A veteran of two failed wars against the Garleans, Kazukata is a Doman refugee in the waning years of his fighting life. Yet he continues to wield his lance, inspired by stories and ballads of Eorzea's heroes, and wanders Eorzea as an adventurer, striving to put his past behind him and become a similar inspiration for others. He can often be found in the Twelveswood, but his career also regularly takes him beyond the forest's borders to the other city-states.
Appearance
Hair & Eyes
Kazukata's hair is usually well-maintained and kept in several braids of varying lengths. A few tufts stubbornly poke out here are there, refusing to stay tame. Though Kazukata's hair is naturally a brilliant white, travel and the day-to-day work of adventuring has a tendency to darken his hair slightly. His brown irises are almost lost in contrast to the glowing yellow limbal rings that surround them.
Physique & Markings
Kazukata's frame is tall and wiry. He's a little less muscular than one might expect an adventurer might be. He has one large and nasty scar on his right side from a puncture wound. The scar looks healed but recent, standing out against Kazukata's dark skin. He has several other minor, old scars around his body that he's picked up over the years, but most are hidden away under his armor. The most readily visible scar is a faded one that stretches across the tips of his fore and middle fingers.
Hygiene & Attire
Kazukata generally maintains good hygiene, particularly when caring for his hair, though a long day can often leave him covered in dust and sweat. His armor looks new and barely worn, the white dye still not yet faded, though it does already have the occasional rent in the chainmail. His boots, in particular, look sturdy and impeccably maintained.
Personality
Psychological Profile
In general, Kazukata is friendly and outgoing, always willing to swap stories over an ale or two. Sometimes, his demeanor can be so sunny that it almost comes off as forced. Considering all he's been through, he's surprisingly free in discussing his past life in Doma, though he will never mention his wife, even going so far as to keep his wedding ring in a pouch instead of on his finger to avoid the topic.
True to his name, Kazukata is also a regular dispenser of advice, sometimes even when he may not be qualified to do so. He'll often be the first in line to tell people how to live their lives whether they want him to or not. Though the trait stems from an underlying desire to help others reach their full potential, it can often make him come off as a busybody.
Voice
A thick Doman accent makes Kazukata's heritage a dead giveaway for any that don't pick up on his name. His voice is a deep, somewhat gravelly baritone, though it often rises in pitch when he's excited.
Philosophy & Mannerisms
The idea of hope is at the core of Kazukata's philosophy, and he has come to regard it as more essential than air. Much that he does, he does desiring to become someone who can impart that hope on others. That's not to say that Kazukata has some naive belief that the power of hope can conquer all, but rather the opposite, that without hope, one will never accomplish anything and may as well be dead. It's also given him a stubborn, sometimes forced positive outlook on life.
Kazukata also holds a firm belief that one's natural talents should inform what they do. He would balk at the "wasted potential" of a Roegadyn conjurer or a Lalafell marauder. While this overly utilitarian viewpoint has given him an edge in his own personal training, working within this framework also limits him, as he would never even consider attempting to become a rogue, believing himself far too tall and conspicuous.
Many of Kazukata's past experiences have also caused him to develop a concerning disregard for the sanctity of life. It mostly surfaces as the occasional black humor or overly frank discussion about death, but something in the man is just broken, and he barely blinks at the thought of death on the battlefield, either of himself or others. Though Kazukata doesn't go out of his way to murder people, when left to handle a situation himself, he rarely considers leaving a hostile opponent alive unless extenuating circumstances call for it.

History
Early Life
Kazukata was born in a small village of Raen in the mountains surrounding Doma to a small family of weavers. He proved to be a poor weaver as a child. Though his father did eventually manage to force some of the craft into Kazukata, he preferred more athletic pursuits, and found himself more at home with the town's hunters, whom he regularly snuck off to join. By the time he had come of age, he had successfully avoided inheriting the family business, which his father exasperatedly delegated to Kazukata's younger brother. Instead, Kazukata was set to become a trapper. Or, at least, that had been the plan before the Garlean Empire invaded Doma.
Once he caught wind of the invasion, Kazukata became incensed and immediately left the mountains to join the Doman army in defense of his homeland. There, he was handed a spear and thrown onto the frontlines, where he quickly proved himself a competent, if unremarkable, fighter. He fought bravely through the majority of the invasion, but did little of note beyond his job as a rank-and-file soldier. One of the war's final battles that saw the rout and near-total eradication of Kazukata's unit, and the war concluded before the unit's survivors could gather and return to the frontlines. Assumed dead and unlikely to be pursued by the Garleans for fighting in the war, the survivors, including Kazukata, opted to let the world assume they were dead and go their separate ways. Having miraculously survived the war and avoided Garlean retribution, Kazukata tried to return to a civilian life and do his best to ignore his new overlords.

The Doman Revolt
After Doma was conquered, Kazukata did not join the Garlean army to try and gain citizenship. The idea of turning around and trying to curry favor with Doma's conquerors left a poor taste in Kazukata's mouth. He also neglected to return to his mountain home, preferring to start fresh and settle down on the edge of Doma's countryside, where he attempted to live as normal a life as possible under Garlean rule. There, he met Asa Nikki, whom he would eventually fall in love with and marry. Though the two never had children, Asa soon became one of the few things that made Kazukata's life bearable under Garlean law. For almost 20 years, Kazukata lived a quiet life with Asa, his spear rusting and forgotten. Though his dream of becoming a hunter had lost some of its luster in the wake of the war, Kazukata still managed to find a degree of happiness plying his trade in Doma's woods.
But when the Emperor passed on and the Doman revolt began in earnest, the allure of a free Doma was too much for Kazukata to resist. He recalled the fire of his youth, the passion with which he had fought to keep his country safe, and felt his blood boil with vigor he had forgotten. He could not remain still, not when his country needed him, and he left to enlist with the revolutionary forces, heedless to the protests of his wife. The two parted on poor terms.
Kazukata once more ended up on the frontlines, spear in hand, and was assigned to Lady Yugiri's main army. He received minor distinctions for valor in the field and, in the war's waning months, was promoted to Corporal. As the war turned against the Domans, Kazukata was assigned to the retreating Doman army's rearguard, where he frequently was forced to contend with the Garleans nipping at the army's heels. In the final days of the war, outside the gates of the capital itself, Kazukata received a grievous wound, a deep sword thrust between his ribs that miraculously missed his major organs, and was carried from the field. He didn't awake until two days later, and found himself on one of the Doman refugee ships, his homeland naught but ash behind him. Just like that, the war had ended while he had been unconscious. He would never again see his home, or his wife, who, if rumors were anything to go off of, had most likely been executed just for being married to him. Everything he had ever known or lived for had come crashing down while he had been asleep. The loss crippled Kazukata, and he wouldn't recover until long after he came to Eorzea.

Life in Eorzea
As other Doman refugees flocked to Mor Dhona, Kazukata instead became a vagrant, wandering Eorzea doing whatever odd jobs he could. Still feeling the loss of Doma and recovering from his own injuries, he seemed a dead man walking and barely managed to make ends meet. He spent two years drifting from inn to inn, dead-end job to dead-end job, drink to drink, without any attempt to better his life, bitterly remembering his homeland and the life he had lost. His wound recovered more slowly than it should have, antagonized by the hard labor he often had to resort to to get by, but his mind took even longer to mend.
But as he spent his days dwelling on the past, Kazukata would occasionally hear stories about Eorzea's many adventurers. Though he shirked the company of others, he would still idly listen to the bards' ballads retelling whatever heroics the Warrior of Light had done that week or hear an occasional story about Eorzea's other, lesser-known heroes. At first, he listened out of boredom, but slowly, they grew on him. He grew interested in the tales of Eorzea, where, if you listened to the bards, there were Primals every five yalms and Garlean assaults every five months, but the people still kept on, always remaining stalwart against any encroaching danger, no matter how horrific or overbearing. Their continued survival was nothing short of baffling, but also struck a chord that began to rouse Kazukata from his stupor and gave him something he had been missing since he had left Doma: hope.
Eventually, Kazukata's interest in these stories became an interest in the people of Eorzea, what made them tick, and how they could survive against such preposterous odds when his Doma had crumbled like dust. And the more he learned, the more Kazukata was inspired by the denizens of Eorzea and came to care about their struggles. Inspired by the tales of Eorzea's adventurers, Kazukata eventually resolved to join their ranks, and once more took up his spear, hoping to become an inspiration for others as other adventurers have become an inspiration for him.

Benedict Whiteraven (
) - Kindred Spirit
Though Kazukata has only met Benedict on a handful of occasions and at first was skeptical about the seemingly happy-go-lucky soothsayer, circumstances have caused him to learn a surprising amount about the man, and what he has heard makes him dwell on his own past. Though on the surface, they seem like complete opposites in many ways, Kazukata sees a kindred spirit in Benedict, another old soldier that's marching forward despite a past that weighs heavily around his neck. Kazukata sees a potential companion in Benedict, someone who could truly understand and empathize with some of the things Kazukata has seen and done during his time as a soldier, and looks forward to future opportunities to share a drink with the man. Of course, it also helps that Benedict's one of the few people like Kazukata that can outdrink a mule.
Faelen Etin(
) - Fellow Protector, Exasperating Friend
Faelen's antics frequently exasperate Kazukata, and on the field, he sees the Lalafell as a loose cannon as liable to get him accidentally blown up as the enemy. However, Kazukata ultimately has found many of his world views reflected in Faelen's, and it's impossible to doubt his loyalty to the protectors and his friends. Though Faelen is a day to day source of mild vexation, when the chips are down, Kazukata can trust his back to him.
Deahfel Pharasma(
) - Leader, Protector, Friend
Kazukata has found a ready friend and capable leader in Deahfel. Though he's beginning to suspect she may be a bit more naive than she lets on, he sees great potential in her and looks forward to seeing the leader of the Protectors continue to grow into her own.
Kei Malaguld(
) - Untapped Potential
Kazukata values Kei's intelligence and pragmatism, as well as her willingness to speak up if she feels she can contribute. If asked, he will openly admit that he believes her to be smarter than him. He is, however, exasperated by Kei's contentedness from time to time, believing she can accomplish far more if she puts her mind to it.

Rumors
NPC Rumors

Some of these rumors are untrue, speculation, or are greatly exaggerated.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
"Yeah, he used to come in here a lot, get lost in his cups. Now that you mention it, though, I haven't seen him in a few months. Wonder if he died in an alley somewhere?" — Bar Patron.
"He did a trial leve a few weeks ago. Did it bloody fast, too. Don't know where he learned to use that spear, though. Certainly wasn't taught by the Wood Wailers, that's for sure." — Levemete.
"He's awfully old to be a rank-and-file adventurer. You'd expect someone like that to be running a guild, not running errands." — Fellow Adventurer.
◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"He's alive? He barely ate, much less spoke when we were sailing from Doma, and once we came ashore, he just vanished. I had assumed the worst." — Doman Refugee.
"When I worked with him, he mentioned something about being a soldier once, back in Doma. If half the rumors about what happened over there are true, then that would explain why the guy barely bats an eye at a charging Goobbue." — Fellow Adventurer.
◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"He muttered some lady's name into a drink once when he was half asleep. Guess his missus dumped him?" — Bar Patron.

Location & Probability
As a wandering adventurer, Kazukata's job could feasibly take him anywhere in Eorzea, but he's most likely to be found in Gridania and the Twelveswood, where he bases his operations.
Affiliations
Most of these aren’t public, and would have to be asked after!
Gridania: Kazukata has based himself in Gridania, as the city-state reminds him of his former country home.
Lancer's Guild: Kazukata has taken an interest in Gridania's Lancer's Guild, curious as to what techniques he can pick up from Eorzea's adventurers.
Archer's Guild: Though he learned to use a bow for hunting purposes, Kazukata has also taken a budding interest in the more martial techniques of the Archer's Guild.
Doma: Though separated from his home with no intention of returning, Kazukata still considers himself a Doman first and foremost.
Azeyma's Oath: Kazukata initially joined Azeyma's Oath for a feeling of familiarity, to be among fellow Domans, but has found himself given more trust and goodwill than he believes he deserves, and now endeavors to further the free company's goals however he can to repay such gestures.
Hydaelyn Protectors: After initially working with the Protectors to help them hunt down a child slaver, Kazukata has become more invested in their cause and frequently volunteers to assist them, seeing the group as his primary opportunity to sow the hope and inspiration he wishes to impart on others.

RP Limits
I'm comfortable with most themes, be they mature, dark, lighthearted, or otherwise. I don't want to engage in particularly graphic displays of torture (though torture itself is fine, let's just not get carried away), rape, or random ERP. Kazukata is still devoted to his departed wife, and as such, the likelihood of any romantic plots is extremely low. I love long-running storylines, but I also don't have much time to devote to FFXIV, so if I enter into one with you, understand that it will probably move slowly or I will have to perform as a secondary character that can come in and out of the story. If it becomes necessary to the story that Kazukata receive some form of permanent damage, I'd like an opportunity to discuss the situation first and hold final veto power. As a general rule, I won't be interested in giving Kazukata any permanent damage unless it's related to an overarching plot or provides an interesting story beat.
RP Hooks
While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP, unless I'm actively spamming PvE content.
■ As a travelling adventurer, Kazukata is technically a spear for hire. He'd prefer to be off doing something heroic, but for good coin, he'll do mundane work, as well. Highly unlikely to accept any shady business dealings.
■ Having just recovered from being a depressed wreck, Kazukata has a soft spot for those who are facing similar struggles and will try to reach out and help them.
■ Naturally, Kazukata is eager to reconnect with other Doman refugees.
■ He'll listen to anyone with a good story, especially if it teaches him more about Eorzea. He naturally gravitates towards bards.
■ He spends most of his time in and around Gridania, and so anyone in the region, particularly if they're fellow adventurers, have a chance of running into him.
