Our story begins with a pair of miqo'te, Lina and Ke'sia. Their real names lost to the sands of time. Lina, who was one of the Seekers of the sun and Ke'sia, A keeper of the moon. Each of their tribes had found gemstones thought lost back in the distant past. The green sun, a fist sized emerald treasured by the Seekers as a holy artifact. The red moon, a fist sized Ruby that was treasured by the Keepers as a holy artifact as well. But the finding of these gemstones only brought chaos in their wake, as many who knew of the gemstones existence attempted to take them by force. Both Lina and Ke'sia we're fed up with the constant raids, their friends and family dying one after the other till they stood alone as strangers within their own tribes. Was it fate, destiny, or simple coincidence that led them to run away with their respective gemstones on the same cold night? Whose is to say.

But in the depths of that tree shrouded night they found each other, gemstones in hand. Perhaps it was that which led them to trust each other. A common goal. Ke'sia could plainly see that Lina had no real idea how to navigate the black shroud and freely offered her assistance. Lina allowed herself to trust him and found herself led into a hidden clearing deep within the shroud. It was originally intended to simply be a hiding place for a few suns. But a plan was formulated between the two miqo'te. A changing of names took place, jobs were taken to provide what little money was needed and within a few short moons that clearing had become their new home. Their spark of love had become a towering inferno, culminating in a child later that turn. Both Lina and Ke'sia had their own ideas as to what the boy's name would be, which led to a week long discussion that ended with a happy compromise. Rei Wakeflame, a miqo'te born from an, at the time, unusual coupling.

The first four cycles of the young Miqo'te's life was peaceful. Lina and Ke'sia were kind and gentle parents who ,even at Rei's young age, had taught him to be kind and friendly to all. Still, Young Rei had a mischievous streak as he would always find a way to sneak away and explore. His parents nearly having heart attacks each time till they had found him. Still, they did not punish Rei for his exploitative nature and instead nurtured it by exploring with him.

A few short suns after Rei's fourth namesday, early in the morning there came an unsettling aura. Up through the floor arose a terrifying sight. Though arose might have been the wrong word, admittedly, as the being rose out of the floor with quite a bit of speed, then fell to the ground with a light thud. The being slowly began to rise to her feet, her wings wrapped around herself tightly as her young eyes looked around the door, filled with curiosity and wonder. Yet those same same glowing light blue eyes found themselves filled with fear as the very world began to reject her very presences. Out of desperation she reached out to a sleeping Rei, her body turning ethereal. Within the shallow breath of a second she was no where to be seen. But deep within Rei's body a battle began to rage. Through instinct rather than her own will, Milly attempted to overpower and consume Rei's young soul. But being barely a sun old, Milly was instead consumed by the raging flames. Her own soul being damaged and absorbed into the inferno of Rei's soul. Yet death did not come for her.

Rei had awoken, just before the final blow could be struck out against Milly. His soul's flame turning from its harsh state. His breathing quick and his face wet with tears. A nightmare had descended upon him when Milly had entered his body. A nightmare of him losing a strange, misunderstood friend. In his young mind he wished fervently that this new friend would not die. His very soul complied without him knowing, Milly's soul being saved and properly fused with Rei's soul. Lina burst into Rei's room but a moment later, pulling her son into a close and protective embrace. She looked into his eyes, only a moment of hesitation shooting through her body as she gazed upon his eyes. Rei looked up at her, blinking away tears from his newly mismatched eyes. His sad voice prompting Lina to hug him all the tighter, pressing his head against her chest softly. Milly quietly looked on through Rei's eyes, feeling his thoughts and emotions as if they were her own. Such deeply confused the young voidsent, as her short time within the void held only a harsh reality devoid of such feelings and thoughts. Amongst the sea of confusion that was her mind, She managed a few thoughts of her own.

"What is this? Why does this feel so, so different? This feels wrong. But at the same time this warmth. This... This whatever it is. It feels p-pleasant. I..."

She fell silent, her confused mind too full of Rei's thoughts for her to be able to function. All she would do was silently watch and listen through Rei's ears as time seemed to slip away into the future at an alarming rate. Suns passing like minutes, Moons passing like hours. Her young mind fighting for some semblance of individuality.

It had been nearly an entire cycle before she finally had some real control over her mind, which had now been filled with Rei's thoughts and experiences.  Feelings and thoughts that were previously so foreign to her now felt familiar. Her previous instincts that had told her to fight Rei and To consume his soul had been quieted down to nothing more than some faint whispers in the back of her mind. Still she continued to feel trapped by Rei's soul, considering him simply a prison with a view.

Despite the pangs of contempt that she felt towards Rei, She used him to learn as much as she could about the world she was now in. Perhaps if she learned enough, she would be able to communicate with Rei so she wouldn't feel as imprisoned.

Again moons would pass by, Rei and his family living peacefully deep within the shroud. Remaining within their hidden alcove of safety. Sadly such would not last. Their location finally being found out by those that had designs upon the red moon. Within the dead of night, only a short few suns after Rei's fifth namesday, They attacked. Lina and Ke'sia could do naught but awaken to their own swift, brutal deaths. Lina's blood curdling scream for mercy being absorbed by the unfeeling wilderness. Rei could do aught but lay there in bed, terror freezing him in place as loud shouting and footsteps grew nearer to his bedroom door. Rei's death was swiftly approaching as tears streamed down his face. A loud voice from within himself screamed out to him, telling him to hide, telling him to keep silent. He felt his body move on its own, as if he was a puppet on a wire. Milly breathed a slow sigh of relief as she managed to pull Rei down under his bed, Her control over him being shaky at best. Despite this she manage to keep him still and keep him quiet as the bandits ravaged his home. She couldn't let Rei die. Not now. She still had so much she still needed to learn and she did not plan on dying just yet.

Eventually the house grew quiet, the bandits leaving the ransacked home in their wake as they escaped into the black of night. Rei's body shivered as Milly control over him waned. He slowly crawled out from under his bed, tears streaming down his face with each fear filled step he took through his families ravaged home. No child deserves to see their parents slain, especially in such a brutal and gory fashion. Confusion, sadness, despair, and loss assaulted Milly and Rei's mind in equal measure. Rei fell to his knees, his tears turning into a constant stream. He would have stayed there, kneeling and defeated had Milly not been there. She urged him onward as best she could, helping him collect what supplies hadn't been smashed. She also led him to a loose floorboard which contained his fathers spear, as well as the Red Moon and the Green Sun. The gemstones were pushed into a hidden pocket in Rei's shirt as he quietly left behind his home. The cool, crisp air of the forest blowing over him, pushing at his limp tail as he struggled along his way. While Rei was in such a weakened state, Milly could feel those whispers in the back of her mind trying urge her to defeat him and take true control. Yet Rei's feelings and lamenting touched Milly deeply, causing those whispers to fade into obscurity. Only weak yet primal urges remaining within her soul.

It was early morning when he was found by a Wood Wailer patrol, collapsed just a few short malms away from Gridania. Feeling sorry for him they carried him back to Gridania, where he was taken in by the Lancers guild. The poor young Miqo'te spent his first moon within the guild hiding himself away, Ether crying his eyes out in private or sitting in the corner, Fiercely protecting his fathers spear. By the end of the year he finally stopped crying himself to sleep, and instead distracted himself by learning from a few of the friendly members of the lancers guild. Reading and writing came naturally to him and upon his tenth namesday he had build up the courage to ask the current guild master if he could learn the way of the lance. From then on he dutifully trained every day under the guild master's watchful eye. He rarely if ever took breaks from his training and he would always find time to continue his studies, learning all he could while he was resting. Though his wanderlust would resurface, causing him to take late night excursions out into the wilderness that surrounded Gridania.

Its during one of those excursions, deep in the forest and far away from prying eyes, Milly finally revealed herself to Rei now that her most primal urges had finally be quelled. Rei, having heard of voidsent from the various books he had found and read, panicked at this news. Milly was prepared for such a reaction and proceeded to pelt Rei's mind with various memories from their shared past. Showing Rei that she had been his stalwart ally these past five years. She also made special mention that she hadn't eaten Rei's soul and had left his Aether untouched. Rei, being the kind and trusting Miqo'te that he is accepted Milly's explanation. They spent most of the night sitting under the the calm light of the moon, speaking with each other. Old memories from Millys past resurfacing as they spoke. Memories from before she had be transformed into a voidsent. She remained quiet about such. Simply enjoying being able to speak again.

Within the next four years, Rei and Milly come to a deeper understanding of each other and end up creating a solid bond of trust with each other. On more than one occasion Milly is nearly found out by some of the conjurers who would heal Rei after he would end up wounded. Luckily Rei had a quick tongue and Milly was able to deftly avoid their probing eyes each and every time. But after a particularly close call Rei finally mans up and decides its time to go out to become an adventurer. Despite only being fourteen he manages to find work and make a fair bit of Gil, as well as a good name for himself because of his solid work ethic.

Somewhere along the way Rei encounters the Merodi family and chooses to return to them from time to time, considering them his second family. He becomes very close with Shadow, Nemo, and Spades, as well as Spade's sister Hearts.

Milly considered revealing herself to the Merodi's, but both Rei and Milly realised doing such would be foolish, and did all they could to keep Milly's existence a secret.

Some time after Rei's seventeenth names day and a particularly rough contract, Rei considered trying to learn how to manipulate Aether. After only a few days of study he attempts to cast a small fire spell to light a candle while in an Inn room. Doing such causes Milly's body to feel as if it had been lit on fire and she accidentally causes the spell to fizzled out and explode. Said explosion draining a lot of Rei's Aether, as well as taking out most of the Inn room's outward facing wall. Milly panics and forces Rei awake, getting him to crawl out of the hole they had just made. The screams of confusion and anger from the Inn keeper could be heard for Malm's as Rei crawled away to safety. After that day, he decided it would be best if he didn't try casting any more spells, but he did continue studying Aether and Aether manipulation, trying to find out what went wrong.

The years would continue to slowly tick away, Rei and Milly continuing to work together. Rei's tongue taking on sharp and silver quality as he manages to talk himself out of each troublesome situation that Milly's mere existence would cause. Still, he would manage to keep his image amongst the people of Eorzea in a positive light as he would continue to work towards doing what good he could in the world, even up till the fall of Dalamud. Sadly he would be unable to return to the Merodi's, the sandy badlands around him being blasted asunder as he dives into a nearby sandstone building. A stray bolt of energy slamming into the abandoned building causing one of the walls to fall on top of Rei, knocking him unconscious and giving him a heavy dose of Amnesia. Milly had done all she could to protect Rei as the wall fell on top of them, exhausting most of her energy. With her last feel conscious moments she gives Rei the memory of his name, then goes into a deep sleep to protect them both from her assumed voidsent nature.

The next five years would pass by like a blur as Rei does all he can to help rebuild the world after the calamity. The loss of his memories as well as a strange feeling of being alone troubling him whenever he laid down to rest. Still, he finds peace whenever he gives in to his wanderlust, eventually re-exploring much of Eorzea. There would be the scant few people who would recognize him, but speaking with them did not help restore Rei's memories. Considering it a lost cause, Rei simply continues on his life, unknowingly protecting those same gemstones that had been with him since he was barely five years old. Milly remaining asleep deep within him, remaining near perfectly hidden all the while.

Rei quietly collapses within the Goblet due to not planning ahead supply wise, having gone ten suns without food. He ends up listening in on a conversation outside of the Kindred Estate. He decides to simply sneak away to Ul'Dah, nearly collapsing along the way rather than stay and potentially end up being discovered. Eventually he manages to limp into the Quicksand and order a meal, eating ravenously. When it comes time to pay he finds himself without any coin, but lady Momodi decides to cover it, as well as an inn room for him, as he had done many contracts and jobs around Ul'dah before and know's he will pay her back when he is able.

The next day he immediately sets out to find work. He managed to secure a fairly simple job hunting down a bandit who had been terrorizing some of the refugees that are camping out near Ul'dah. During such he ends up encountering a very energetic Miqo'te, whom he learns is named Sisha. He ends up learning of Shadow through their short talk, which triggers a small chain of memories. Said chain of memories causes Milly to reawaken, though she keeps herself hidden.

Rei ends up meeting up with Shadow at the Quicksand, where she hands Rei a linkpearl so that they can keep in touch. More of Rei's memories resurface from the meeting.

Rei decides to stick around Ul'dah for now, eventually having a chance meeting with Spades. Yet more memories of his come back, not all of them pleasant. He's still happy to have met Spades again however.

A few short weeks of uneventful contracts later, he ends up meeting up with Hearts. Another torrent of memories hits him and his eyes start glint for a moment. Milly panics slightly because she's finding it harder and harder to stay hidden.

Another moon passes, even more contracts start flooding in Rei's direction because of his dependable reputation. Ends up picking up a fairly easy contract to collect crystals from the floating city of Nym. Milly panics as an irresistible urge takes over and she absorbs a large amount of the ambient aether from the city. She keeps panicking, believing that she had eaten Rei's soul in the process. Rei just mentally pats Milly's head, telling her everything is alright. Milly calms down and decides to try manipulating aether, ends up gathering Aether around Rei's body, preforming a sort of transformation that looks like a combination between Rei and what Milly thinks she looks like. They realise they have to keep such a power hidden and transform back fairly quickly. They also find that they can dual cast, that and now that Milly isn't Aether starved, Rei can cast spells without exploding all the time.

A few weeks later, Milly finds that her own Aetheral reserve is regenerating on its own, proving that perhaps she isn't a voidsent like she originally thought. Rei and Milly both agree that Milly should remain hidden, however.

Rei devotes part of his training regiment on learning how to manipulate aether with Milly. Milly discovers a lot of her powers that are succubus related have shifted and changed, resembling something akin to a "good" succubus. Meaning the aura of terror she would have had is now an aura of calm, she's able to subtly manipulate peoples feelings, both physically and mentally and she is able to enhance feelings of pleasure and happiness. Also the more offensive minded powers are now of a "pure" kind.

With this large power increase, hiding Milly becomes more of a problem. Rei's eyes now glow instead of glinting as well.

A few suns later Rei encounters someone named Rarashid Kokoshid. She ends up showing up at the Quicksand every night after their brief meeting, always looking over at Rei.

One night Koko is seen with a black haired, white eyed Miqo'te, both of them watching Rei from a distance. That night one of the drunkards within the bar decides to start a fight with Rei, and Rei ends up dragging the Drunkard out of the Quicksand, then lays him out with a couple of punches, his eyes glowing. As he turns to enter the bar He sees the white eyed Miqo'te and Koko standing there, both of their arms crossed, and something on Koko jingling as it if was an alarm of some sort. Rei stood there, utter terror flashing through his mind like lightning.

"They know about Milly"

The thought flashed across his eyes as he saw the white eyed Miqo'te raise her hand. She was saying something but at that point in time, Rei only saw her lips move. Not even Milly's voice could penetrate into his stunned state. Aether was slowly gathering in the white eyed Miqo'te's hand. Milly held fast, focusing some Aether of her own. She waited to the absolute last second, teleporting Rei out of harms way as the focused beam of Aether would have struck him. The moment he reappeared outside of Ul'dah's walls Rei began to run. He knew he'd never be welcomed back within those great walls ever again.

In fact Rei wasn't stupid. He knew his supposed death wouldn't be viewed as such for long, and he knew that news of what he and Milly were would spread like wildfire. The four main cities of Eorzea will have closed off access to him with the moon. He knew deep down that he would be a hunted Miqo'te till the day that he would die. His only hope would be to go into hiding deep within the frozen wilderness that was once the bright and green Coerthas. He knew of a deep cave that was well hidden from view, untouched by man or dragon. So deep that even the bitter cold wouldn't reach down that far. An unknown refuge for explores who were brave enough, or stupid enough to find it.

He ran until the sandy badlands gave way to a lush paradise of green, the canopy shielding him from the harsh rays of the sun. As tired as he was he forced his legs to keep moving till he was within the timed safety of camp tranquil. He wordlessly slammed down his pouch of Gil. taking deep breaths before he would attempt to calmly ask for supplies for a journey. Blankets, rations, water, and even a handcart. Everything he would need until he could be self sufficient out in the frozen wastes, or at least he'd hope so. He barely gave himself an hour to rest before he would set out again. He moved as swiftly as the wind, his supplies remaining within the cart only by virtue of them being tied down excessively. Shouting would ring about all around him as he dashed through the central shroud, though for all their loudness they would fall upon deaf ears, the only answer being the carts wheels creaking and crashing against the ground. His entire body shook as he forced himself up along the Matron's Lethe, His cart nearly slipping off the steep incline more than once. More cries ringing out, followed by the monstrous roars from the morbol's as he strides across Shorrel Haven and across the bridge. Spriggans crying out in a combination of fear and surprise as he nearly bowls them over in his rapidly decreasing haste. His breathing would be heavy, his body shaking with each step as he slinks his way into Fallgourd Float. Still, despite the burning in his legs and deep within his lungs he would continue on until he was at the western exit. He fell to his knees, leaning against his cart as he desperately tries to catch his breath. Two hours would be all that he would let pass before he would rise to his feet again, his vision fading in and out as he forces himself to take a step forward.

"Foolish"

The word pierced into his mind like an icicle as Milly took over control, limping Rei into the nearby bar to rest. It was a full sun till Milly would finally relinquish control back to Rei. As he walked outside, he expected a large gathering of Voidsent hunters. Instead he was greeted with the sight of his cart, and a few innocent looking Lalafell skipping down the road together. He quietly adjusted and tied down his robe, keeping the cowl secured around his head before he would lay his hands upon the cart. The cloudy sky crackling with energy and sounding out with a great boom, signalling the start of a steady downpour. Despite the rain and constant flashes, Rei pushed ever onwards, first to the west, then far up north. He would calmly replace his robe with a dry and much heavier one before he would enter the forever cold and snowy reaches of Coerthas. He kept his head low and moved at a brisk walking pace through the snow, barely acknowledging the guardsmen as he passes. Slowly but surely he would finally reach the last leg of his journey.

Behemoths Dominion.

Only the brave and the foolish dare enter this place. The brace, the foolish, and now the desperate who have no choice. A lone guardsman would stand in his way.

"Turn back, less you wish to meet the Twelve." The Elezen's voice would be that of one who had seen too much.

"Stand aside. I understand what lies before me." Rei slowly pulls back his cowl.

"Yet you still wish to continue forth?" His voice would be filled with sadness.

"Aye." Rei takes a step forward, the handcart he was pulling behind him barely holding together.

"Feh... Tis your own funeral then." He calmly draws out a piece of parchment along side some charcoal. "Next of kin?"

"None. Don't bother searching for a body ether." Rei would simply continue forwards, following along the western cliffs.

"Suit yourself..." The Elezen calmly puts away the parchment and charcoal as Rei passes, a defeated sigh escaping his lips.

Rei would continue on with carefully measured haste until he was looking out upon the cliffs edge. Slowly he would turn left, looking back towards the guard. Feeling as if he wasn't watching, Rei quickly slides into the hidden cave, letting out a loud cry filled with false terror, then hiding within the entrance of the cave. It was long, cold hour before Rei would begin his venture deep within this cave. Man, Dragon, and beast had long since abandoned this place. All that remained deep within this cave was a bounty of cave fruit, growing from a mineral rich hotspring. Such would be what would sustain Rei through his self imposed exile.

Did Rei peacefully live out his days with Milly, hidden amongst a dark paradise...?

Was he eventually found and slain...?

Or did a different, much kinder fate befall him?

Character

Rei is a well mannered and polite Miqo'te who has spent much of his life exploring. He has been to nearly all corners of the realm and greatly enjoys returning to the less civilized and quiet areas of the world.

He can be quite loyal, but only to those who have truly earned his trust. And even then it is not a blind loyalty. Still, he is always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone he happens to pass by.

Rei is surprisingly intelligent despite his shy and quiet demeanour. He has spend many a time reading and learning all he can in between training with his lance and doing jobs.

Rei had spent most of his life as a wandering mercenary, helping anyone and everyone he would come across regardless of payment. Currently this has changed as he has become employed by the Kindred. He... hasn't actually done much work wise since he joined up with them but he is being a lot more social than he used to be.

Overall Rei is a very kind and friendly person, if a bit quiet and reserved. He's like a rock in the stream we call life. Someone whom you can count on for support and protection, even if you barely know him. Though he does have his own hidden depths... and his own sort of cowardice.

General

Full Name - Rei Alissa Wakeflame

Height - 5 Fulms, 7 Ilms

Weight - 147 Ponz

Hair Colour - Black

Eye Colour - Left: Light blue/Right: Dark blue

Skin Colour - Dusty black

Religion - Althyk, The keeper ( Very loose belief/worship )

Laterality - Ambidextrous, but favours his right hand.

Sexuality - Promiscuously Bisexual

Behaviour

Speech- Rei tends to speak in a fairly sophisticated way, as well as being very polite. His voice is fairly deep, though he usually hides this fact by speaking in very gentle tones.

Mind- He's fairly mature for his age. He is also decently intelligent and never fully trusts anyone until he gets to know them better. Rei is mentally strong, thus it takes a lot to break him down.

Emotions- Rei prefers to keep his emotions in check at all times. He does his best to avoid having any outbursts or otherwise allow unpleasant emotions to surface in front of others. It takes a surprising amount of effort to cause him to break out of this shell, but if you do manage to anger him sufficiently he will show you exactly how angry he is, either with words or with fists as the case may be.

Appearance

Rei is a decently tall Miqo'te with a very long and fluffy tail. He has two differently coloured eyes, his left eye being light blue and his right eye being dark blue. He also has two marks near his eyes. His left ear as a small nick on the very tip.

Attire

Rei isn't particularity picky with what he wears. As long as it has some kind of armour attached to it that is. He also much prefers function over form with his clothing. Of course he does have one little quirk, that being that he MUST have a hidden pocket in whatever he wears.

Combat

Rei has been officially trained in how to use a spear and continues to train himself every day. He does have some skill with his fists, as he has managed to survive more than a couple of bar brawls. He also understands how to take a hit and also understands its better to parry or dodge a blow if possible. He has been in combat against many a monster and man, so it would be fair to say he's a seasoned warrior.

Lancing

Rei was trained in the way of the lance by the wood wailers in Gridania. He was a natural with a lance and learned many techniques very quickly. The spear he uses now is the same one he had back when he had to feld his raided home. The spear itself, as Rei had learned, is called an Obelisk. There are two small indentations along the shaft, almost as if something could be set into it.

Aether

Rei has reconsidered his stance on Aether and is currently being trained by Khuja in how to properly manipulate aether. Rei does have a small problem, as whenever he channels aether, force based aether builds up around his hands. He is able to make bubbles of force aspected aether, as well as putting a thin bubble of another type of aether around it, producing an explosive bubble with different effects.

There is also a small shift in Rei's Aether accompanied by his eyes changing colour sort of thing. Light blue eyes meaning he acts more submissive and gentle. Dark blue eyes meaning he's much more aggressive and dominate. Even darker blue eyes meaning a sort of berzerker state. Anger, stress, and pleasure, as well as certain situations will cause these changes to occur.
