x. General

Yvane Ryder hires herself out as a sellsword and bodyguard, having suffered multiple rejections from the Immortal Flames. Nonetheless, she is outfitted in a conspicuously deteriorating uniform of the their colors. Never far from The Quicksand with a corresponding bottle of ale, her good sword arm, steely glare and quick feet keep her tab under control—but something in her eyes longs for a more romantic fate. Once in a moon, as she drinks at a lonely table, one can overhear whispers of her family's fallen name. Fortunes in Ul'dah rise and fall as reliably as the waves crash on the shores of La Noscea, and it seems Yvane's has done just so.

x. Physical Traits

Short in stature, but densely muscled and darkly tanned, it doesn't take more than a glance to recognize the fight in Yvane. She takes a practical approach to her appearance: cropped hair swept back and every ilm covered in armor. No matter how drunk, her steel-blue eyes shine—bright and alert under the street lamps. Her face is a clashing blend of sharp angles and the stubborn softness typical of her age. Her hair and eyebrows are thick, black and draw the Uldah'n sun to her face like a Gravity spell. It's rare to catch a glance at the figure underneath her hauberk—but her own eyes are always glancing Momodi's newest patrons.

x. Past

Yvane first stepped beyond the gates of Ul'dah when she was fifteen years old—scarcely a bell after hearing news of her father's execution sentence. She grew up the daughter of one of Ul'dah's well-loved Flame Commanders, Jakys Ryder. Her father led the Free Brigade during the time of the Calamity, though he did not fight at the Battle of Cartenau. As a girl, she lived for his tales of distant lands, Amalj'aa blood and the shining armor of the Sultansworn. Though her father was little more than a bureaucrat before the great influx of adventurers to Ul'dah at the end of the Sixth Astral Era, he was greater than The Twelve could ever hope to be, in her eyes.

Shortly after The Calamity, as the Immortal Flames turned their attention back to rebuilding and protecting Ul'dah's borders from the Beast Tribes, Yvane's father was always away on the edges of Thanalan. Everything changed when he was held responsible for the slaughter of his men during an Amalj'aa ambush in 1573, scarcely a year after his troops' victories in Mor Dhona. The punishment for this was swift and brutal justice, and henceforth Yvane took up the sword as her father had in life and left home for the streets of Ul'dah to live the adventurer's life she believed would restore honor to her name.

x. Relationships

[PC] Cerise Ashdale - A wealthy and beautiful girl who was Yvane's first love and childhood friend. The two girls were raised together by Cerise's mother due to the early death of Ryder's wife and the frequent absence of their fathers. Much to Yvane's regret, they became bitter enemies and rivals after the death of Cerise's father. Though the subject of her friend's vicious ire, Yvane remains in love with her to the present day. She can wish only from afar for no harm to come to the girl she has forever defended and loved.

[PC] Rowan Hunt - Yvane met this green La Noscean during a supply run to The Silver Bazaar. He showed aptitude for a new adventurer and she was impressed with his strength, though she made no comment to him before collecting her fee and heading off for a drink with Kikipu. She hopes to run another job with him, granted he doesn't get himself killed by Ul'dahn thugs. She wondered over her drink whether she should try to keep an eye on him... He was wasn't bad-looking, either.

[PC] Rosalind Westwind - A woman Yvane has had her eye on for several moons. Not quite ladylike, but pretty for a merchant, Rosalind always catches Yvane's eye when she passes through the Exchange on her way to the city gates. Despite Rosalind's continued disinterest, Yvane continues invite the older girl for drinks whenever the opportunity strikes. She hasn't seen her lately, though... Where has the shopkeep disappeared to?

[NPC] Flame Commander Ashdale [Deceased] - Yvane and Cerise's fathers were friends from youth and fought many hard battles together against the Amalj'aa, bandits and Garleans. Yvane always regarded Commander Ashdale and his wife with fear, despite her love for their daughter. The Commander was a stern and violent man, and his wife had a pronounced cruel streak. When Ashdale fell in battle against the Amalj'aa, Yvane had great pity for Cerise, but none for Commander Ashdale. She remains embittered to him to this day and quietly holds the man's brash and violent nature responsible for his death rather than her father.

[NPC] Jakys Ryder [Deceased] - Yvane's father. Jakys was the leader of the Free Brigade of the Immortal Flames before his death in 1774. When Commander Ashdale was killed by the Amalj'aa Tribes, Jakys was held responsible for leading his troops into a blatant ambush and was executed for incompetence. Yvane and her father remained close until his death and he treated her with the same respect as his own men. Perhaps due to his frequent absence as a Commander of the Flames, Yvane idealized her father a great deal and continues to strive to be as great a swordsman she remembers him to be. She has held on to his old pipe as a memento—the only possession of his not sold in order to finance his exorbitant Ossuary burial.

[NPC] Ysabel Ryder [Deceased] - Yvane's mother. Ysabel worked as a weaver who helped supply the Flame Mages before her death in 1559. Her body was found in the Husting's Strip and she was seemingly robbed and murdered by common thugs. Yvane has no memory of her mother, only admiring words from her father she holds in reverence. It is said she was an exceedingly strong-minded woman of old Ul'dahn stock who devoted her earnings to the worship of Nald'Thal.
