Basic Info

Mar'khas Sol (pronounced: /mar-KAS sol/) (18th day of the 1st Astral Moon) is a young Miqo'te on a quest for three things: Fame, Fortune, and Family. The latest of that list is known to precious few who raised him. He travels across the land, seeking adventure and pleasure alike, as well as the treasures he manages to steal from those foolish enough not to guard them. He helps those in need, so long as they do not condemn his lifestyle or his morals. Unfortunately, his adventurous soul often lands in him grave danger, or worse, the brig.

Appearance & Personality

Mar'khas is a little small for a Miqo'te, but he most likely has an inch or two more to grow... Or so he insists. He stands with a relaxed, but ready stance. His face is always warm, rarely one to show any emotions other than confidence and curiosity. His eyes are a bright sky blue, and his hair is the color of golden sands. He has recognizeable scars on his face, mainly an 'X' on his cheek. He wears loose linens, with leather cords adorned with beads and pouches of several sizes. He finds a nice challenge in trying to pick pocket or steal while dressed with things that make noise upon movement. He favors bright colors or blue, gold, purple, and red, never black or gray unless he's on contract for a stealth task.

Personality-wise, Mar'khas is smooth, sly, and playful. He enjoys games of cat-and-mouse, no matter what role he plays. He is often flirtatious with those he meets, either at a ploy or as a way of testing the waters. He is never one quick to violence or prejudice, and views situations with caution, as little as it may show. When in the company of others, he may seem reckless or rude, but everything is calculated in his mind before hand, he just fails to communicate.

To those who may grow to know him more deeply, Mar'khas is protective and understanding, always one to listen rather than speak. He feels strongly and deeply once his shield of humor is seen past, and he is always honest to those he trusts.

Always wanting to be the swashbuckling hero, Mar'khas has been known to toss himself into danger for the sake of an innocent he's taken a liking to, or hell, even a rival which he doesn't quite want to stop playing with yet. Everyone has a role in his play, and he likes to keep the best actors in his troupe.

Biography

The Cub on the Dock

It was a cold night, the air heavy with fog from the ocean mist. Distant sounds of harbor bells rung through the air, gentle crashing of waves against the harbor clapped past the silence, and a crying sliced through it all, clear and loud. So loud, in fact, that it proved a good lure for a group of performers. An Elezen, two Lalafell, and a towering Roegadyn all approached the sound, coming from the end of the pier. There was a crate with a loosed top on the corner of the dock. The Roegadyn came close, pulling the top off and looking inside. A young Miqot'e cub, barely having grown his fur, lay crying amidst a pile of burlap and hempen cloth, wailing and sobbing. The others came near as the Roegadyn carefully lifted the cub out of the box, holding him as if he were some sort of unstable bomb. After a few moments of examination, He pulled the cub close, trying to keep him warm in his large arms, and said "... Mar'khas. That's a good name, ey?"

Raised Amongst Thieves and Bards

Mar'khas was raised by the Merlsaelz Theatre Troupe, a troupe of performers... or so they would have others think. Truly, they were thieves and informants for hire, using their performing skills as a cover for their true work. The group consisted of: Jeannpioux, a mysterious Pugilist who also knew the skills of dance; Momoni and Momosa Mokipa, sisters, bards, and skilled well in instruments and vocals, respectively; Ahldahn Bhaldbaen, a Roegadyn Marauder well versed in acting and plays of all sorts, and the leader of the troupe.

Together they raised the small cub they found on the docks as their own, naming him after a character in one of the plays they would preform. He was taught in the ways of dancing, singing, acting, and strings (primarily lute and fiddle). Originally, they did not intend on teaching him their battle arts, only in the arts of sneaking and stealing and conning, but through leaving him behind with Jacke, the leader of the Rogues Guild, as they went off on contracts, he inevitably learned to fight, anyway.

As he came of appropriate age, they began taking him with them on contracts, quickly finding that he was perfect for their kind of work. He fit right in, using his roguish charm to distract targets as the rest of the troupe did their true work, and eventually, he did the true work as they distracted. Quickly, he became an invaluable member of the troupe.

Setting Sails for Adventure

At the age of sixteen, Mar'khas was well aware of how he did not fit in with typical Seeker traditions, either in name or in culture. Curiosity had chewed at his mind his entire life, yearning to learn his true roots and heritage. Though he loved his troupe - his family - he yearned to find himself. And so, he asked to leave the troupe for a time. Ahldahn agreed, after giving him a whooping to prove he was ready for it. And so, Mar'khas left his home, which was not in Limsa Lominsa, nor in Ul'dah, nor in Gridania, but wherever his troupe may be.

Ethri'a Valnyr: Having met in the past under the usual circumstances of petty theft, Mar'khas at first tried to hide his identity from Ethri'a upon meeting him again... under similar circumstances. Though he thought he had done a good job of hiding himself, as well as assuming his new scars would help mask him, Ethri'a still remembered his face, and took him out drinking, where it was eventually coaxed out. As it turned out, Ethri'a was not looking for retribution, but a fellow drinker to empty pitchers with. Mar'khas was happy to oblige. It was certainly better than ending up in the brig! Through a fun night of drinking, which led to many odd conversations and instances, Mar'khas found that he'd made a friend out of Ethri'a, or so he'd like to hope. The knight could be pretty entertaining, especially when he was head-on-the-counter drunk!

Jacke: Jacke has strong connections with Mar'khas' troupe, and so he has known the man through most of his life. Jacke even taught him from youth to be a rogue. Mar'khas respects Jacke as the leader of the Rogue's guild, but ultimately goes his own way. He assumes Jacke understands his choices, and as long as he obeys the code, he doesn't care. The two have fun with the contracts they exchange, often times Mar'khas accepting contracts that have him acting as a messenger to his troupe just for the excuse to go see them again. It is a normal occurrence to find the two of them getting plastered at the Drowning Wench.
