Story's Beginning

While reading this wiki you will see the phrase "Story's Beginning." This refers to the launch date of the Collector's Edition of Final Fantasy XIV (September 22nd, 2010) and as such anything refered to being before Story's Beginning is before that real-life date.

Character

Name

Etymology:
Valentyn: "One who is strong and healthy"
Aliases/Nicknames:
Vale: The shortened version of Valentyn
Vee: Used by those closest to Vale. A petname of sorts.
Valley: Thanks Oria Argall
Sky King: Originally a self-proclamation, but seems to have rubbed off and now is used by others in greeting.

Appearance

A fresh-faced, blond-haired hyur with a striking blue gaze and a cheeky, yet charming, smile. He stands at around 5'7" with a dark-tan caucasian pigmentation, slightly shorter than average for his age but a decent build showing that his years of thievery have not only helped hone his skills but his body as well. He has one, mostly faded, scar horizontally crossing his left bicep - one of the signs that even the great "Sky King" has his off days.
Other Distinguishing Marks
Jewels may be held in high regard, but jewelry not so much. A single earring hangs from each earlobe, and two rings reside upon his left hand (Index and ring fingers.)

Personality

A confident, strong-willed boy with the ability to draw people in. Vale is the kind of young man that a lot of boys wish they could be, both in lifestyle and personality, and girls wish they could be with, which more often than not they can. At least for one night. He's a charmer and a flirt, enticing the hearts of those he meets to want to be not only part of his adventures but part of his life, too.
Quirks
  • When inspecting someone, normally leans in quite close to their face.
  • Quite laid back, metaphorically floating.
  • Quite perceptive, good at reading people and noticing when things are out of place.
  • Can speak to Cidderin, a Moogle, but has never encountered another to see if it is just a one-off thing or otherwise.
  • Whenever in Limsa, he is known to climb up to the highest point and stare off into the distance as if looking for something.
Flaws
  • Very competetive. Can get himself and others into trouble if there is competition involved.
  • When riled up, he is very hard to calm.
  • A flirt. Very much so. Both a flaw and a gain, as it counts as his charm, but it can lead to trouble.
  • Doesn't have a concept of "Personal Space" for the most part.
Fears
The two biggies are as follows
  • Crabs, especially giant ones. Though he's never explained why. He just doesn't like them.
  • Being alone. It's odd that someone who draws so many people in could fear being alone, but when people is all you've ever had the thought of losing everyone is a huge fear.
Talents
  • Gymnastics (Or similar.)
  • Uncanny luck for finding things of value.
  • People-reading.
  • Drawing people in.
  • Making clothes.
  • Speaking to Moogles (though, currently it's only shown to be one.)
  • Thievery.
Intelligence
There are two types of intelligence. Book-smarts, and world-smarts. Vale isn't too high on the former, but the latter he more than makes up in. He tends to know what he needs to and uses it to get through in life with little-to-no worry.

Voice

He has a youthful, smooth accent. Not the most upper class, but not the dreggs either. Almost always holds a cheery disposition to it, as well.

Relationships

Vale, being the socialite, enjoys meeting new people all the time but there are those few who hold special places in his heart.

(Under construction)

Friends/Companions

Males

Cid is one of Vale's few true male friends. He runs HACK and they have been known to adventure together as well as help each other out with item needs whenever necessary

Biggs is the only other current remaining member of the original Rosa family. He is a good ten years older than Vale, and is seen as an older brother. They have known each other for around thirteen years now and have almost never been that far apart.

Cidderin is a rather foul-mouthed Moogle that Vale met in a chance encounter almost one year prior to Story's Beginning. He is an engineer, likes his space, and enjoys a good cup of tea.

Renik is a mysterious Roegadyn. He and Vale have never talked about how they first met, but it seems they've known each other a long time. Renik punches things, and like to cook food. Two of Vale's favourite past times.

Females

Isabel was a farmgirl-gone-military agent. She worked in Limsa, and it was a chance encounter that she'd meet a youthful blond tellings stories of his adventures within the Adventurer's Guild. It wasn't long before she was a part of his crew aboard The GoldenMyst and again not long before she held affection towards the Sky King. They are now very close, but not in the romantic sense.

The two encountered at a regionally renowned tavern a few months prior. Possessing similar personalities made establishing a friendship quite easy, & their related interest in adventuring gave the two a reason to hang out further. As well, their shared love for alcohol has inspired them to attend every tavern within the border’s limits.

Emelin once hired Vale's services of transport, wanting to get from Gridania to Limsa and run away from the life she felt was being forced upon her. It seemed that the life of an adventurer took her fancy and she ended up staying with Vale and his crew to this day.

Vale met Remilia when Emelin asked him to help out with some Levequests. Remilia was a charming young Miqo'Te and one of the few to resist Vale's charms outside of a few reddened cheeks. Though, there's reason for that. They've not known each other long, but seem to get along well enough.

Vale first encountered Mai at the Miner's Guild. He was spending time with Ami and Remilia having a drink when a girl, obviously not designed to deal with large crowds, came into the pub to deliver a package. Vale did his best to help shake her nerves, and a few drinks in somehow ended up becoming her bodyguard. He found her innosence something to admire and wanted to help her protect it.

She owes Vale a drink and some alone time. 'nuff said.

They met randomly, and even though they had a -very- rocky start things managed to work themselves out. They have grown close and she seems to have a great trust in him, so much so infact that they are now lovers. He also holds some ties to her brother, but he's not gone into it too much.

Cora is young, innocent, and naive. The Kryptonite to Vale's... Vale. Somehow they get along pretty well, so there's nothing worth worrying about so far! The question is, though, who's gonna rub off on who first?

Rosa

About two years after Vale's birth he was sent to an orphanage. The story of his parents is unknown, and he's not too fussed either way if it's to stay that way. There he stayed for another two years until a rather tall Roegadyn by the name of Garlden appeared. He took a liking to the boy and adopted him into his "family" of sorts. This was what Vale would soon learn to be known as Rosa, the Thieve's guild.

Rosa wasn't very large, but they were close. They all came from different backgrounds and were of varying ages. Vale was the baby of the family (literally) and continued to live and train with them for the next twelve years until all but a couple of members of Rosa (Vale, and a Hyur with silvery hair called Biggs) remained due to unknown circumstances. Vale has not given up his search for Garlden and his family, and nor has Biggs. They use any free time they have and dedicate it to finding out just what did happen one year prior to Story's Beginning.

The Crew of the GoldenMyst

The GoldenMyst is the name of an Airship Vale discovered, almost one year prior to Story's Beginning, when an Aetherial node started acting out of sorts and pulled him, along with Biggs of Rosa, into a hidden away cavern. Onboard he discovered a rather foul-mouthed Moogle (which to Vale's surprise, he could understand completely) by the name of Cidderin. Cidderin seemed to have an affinity for engines, and airships, and had managed to get her into enough of a condition to be flightworthy. Vale, Cidderin and Biggs managed to use the ship to leave that cavern and make it back home.

Over the months the crew of The GoldenMyst grew, but managed to keep enough under the radar as to keep their ship mostly hidden from public knowledge. As the airships of Eorzea were seperated by Ishgard (High advanced), Garlemald (the bad guys), and Goverment-owned "Under testing" Eorzean transports whos flight routes were officially closed, The GoldenMyst and her crew had to keep their travels as low on the radar as possible. Of course, they did do a lot of flight over the next nine months doing jobs, transports, and also for adventuring. Currently the crew has over thirty members, some close to Vale while others are just along for the ride.

The crew started off simply as Vale, Biggs, and Cidderin. Down the line they ended up with twin Lalafell cooks (Pomm and Pemm), A Roegadyn by the name of Renik (Who it seems Vale and Biggs had contact with prior to their time on the airship), an elderly lady known only as O'baa with more than her share of Guildleves and tales leading to rare finds, and lastly a girl called Isabel. Around four or five months passed and the crew began to grow again, finally being the family that she is today.

(Crew list coming soon)

Unfortunately, the life of the Sky Pirates were not meant to be as the crew were spotted near Ala Mhigo and shortly shot down by Garlemald. They managed to escape, and salvage the mostly-intact airship, returning back to Rosa's base where the ship remains currently. Vale, along with Cidderin and Cid Mercer of HACK!, are currently seeking parts (which, due to the testing phases in Eorzea, are currently very scarce) to fix up the previously magnificent airship back to her former glory.

(Story to be continued..)

Combat

General

Style:

Melee, close-range

Specialization:

Vale likes his hand-to-hand combats. Mainly using his own style of fisticuffs (Sometimes making use of hand-held weapons such as dusters and claws) to win a fight. Although it is rarely made note of, Vale has on occasion been seen to make use of Fire-elemental magics. He doesn't speak of it, even if questioned.

Primary Roles: Pugilist.
  • Strengths:

Thinking on his feet, hitting hard and fast, and being lucky enough to dodge most blows thrown at him.

  • Weaknesses:

He holds little resistance to magic, as he himself has never trained in it (and as such learned how to handle being on the receiving end.)

Weapons

Knuckle Dusters, and Cesti.
Occasionally seen to make use of daggers or short-swords.

Armor

Armor is one of those things for people who intend to be hit. At least, that's Vales view of it. While hit clothing is well padded and made to help protect from the occasional blow, he dresses more for comfort and personal style over protection.
