Khalun Ejinn is an Au Ra formerly of the Ejinn, a tribe of Xaela who traveled primarily underwater thanks to their incredible lung capacity. Following a large school of fish, they found themselves near the borders of Doma. Due to unrest in the region and Garlean control, Khalun found herself separated from her tribe and stuck in Doma. Fortunately, she happened upon someone similarly eager for escape: Nadi'a Lamore, a Miqo'te conscripted by the Empire. They fled together along with the other refugees that escaped Doma's destruction.
Despite taking up the trade years ago, Khalun is a mediocre fisherwoman who often ends up supplementing her income by taking whatever part-time work she can find. Recently, upon realizing her helplessness in an increasingly dangerous world, Khalun has taken up the study of astrology. She is quite competent in the magicks themselves, but reading the stars and the cards... less so.

Appearance & Personality
- Khalun comes up to just under 5 feet, thin body that has little musculature outside of her arms. Although she spends a great deal of time outdoors to fish, her skin tends to revert to a pale shade after just a couple days indoors. The only permanent mark of the sun are the scattered freckles that cover her body. Her fiery hair is kept tied back from her face in a traditional style. Khalun exhibits the unique Au Ra trait of limnal rings around her eyes, though hers are unusually dark, creating the appearance of especially large eyes that shift from blue-green to green-blue depending on the light.
- Khalun prefers warm weather, and dresses for it when she can. Her clothes are light and if she's anywhere near the water, she's probably wearing a swimsuit. Conversely, since she loathes the cold, she bundles up as much as possible when she heads north. Thanks to her studies, she's wrapped in a coat more often than not.
- Often cheerful and a little airheaded, Khalun generally does her best to come off as likable. Those she is familiar with tend to see a different side of her: insecure and pessimistic wherever it concerns her own life. Around those she feels are superior to her, she may act rude or obstinate to cover her perceived inferiority. Despite this, Khalun's mood is likely to change in a flash, and she holds few grudges. She firmly believes in always working towards a better future, no matter what the past holds... Conveniently, this outlook allows her to mostly ignore said past.
Biography
- In Khalun's tribe, everyone was family. This was primarily because actual blood relation was extremely blurred. The tribe moved often and over long distances. It wasn't uncommon for mothers to not know where their child was conceived, let alone with whom. Children were raised by "the village," and sometimes the parent(s) weren't even the most prominent figures in a child's life. As a result, Khalun was never certain of her parentage, a circumstance that never bothered her until she became curious about the close-knit families and long lineages of other people.
- Her place in the Ejinn tribe was among the many spear fishers, though she also took up line fishing as a hobby. Khalun was neither exceptionally good nor exceptionally bad. In fact, she was unremarkable to the point that her tribe possibly forgot to collect her when tensions ran high in Doma. The Xaela found herself trapped in Doma as the Garleans moved in. Fortunately, she continued to be adept at keeping her head low, and she was able to get by, for the most part, by fishing. While she'd never been very good on her own, she met a talented companion in Doma--a lesser panda that helped her find the best fishing holes.
- After spotting Nadi'a one day, Khalun developed a fixation on the Garlean conscript. After much time spent watching him with a persistence some (...or most) would call stalking, Khalun eventually got the courage to speak to the object of her obsession. The two ended up escaping Doma together when conflict broke out, along with the other refugees. They disembarked in Uldah, and continued to travel together while they got on their feet. However, it soon became apparent that their paths were to separate--Khalun was a fisher with no combat skill, while Nadi'a was an adventurer at his core.
- Now that her group was reduced to herself and Popoto, the lesser panda, Khalun got back to what she was mediocre at: fishing. She made a decent living, for a time. One day, her companion walked out of her life even more quietly than Nadi'a had. And that was that. Without her fishing assistant, Khalun's haul diminished and she found herself forced to take whatever work she could find to maintain her lifestyle... or rather, her wardrobe. Aside from her clothes, Khalun had few worldly possessions, which helped facilitate her nomadic lifestyle. She moved from town to town for work, camping or staying in inns.
- Not long after the uprising in Uldah, Khalun ventured far north, braving the cold weather to take up the study of astromancy. Her reasons were, "I want to be useful in combat," but beyond this, she refused to divulge any details. Her instructors guessed that the incident in Uldah had put a fear in the young woman, and took her in despite her lack of schooling. Khalun was an eager, if not terribly skilled student. The gates she found difficult to grasp, but the magic itself flowed easily enough.
- Shortly before the Starlight Celebration, Khalun came upon Nadi'a in the very place they'd separated: Uldah. The two rekindled their friendship, with time having worn away Khalun's enthusiastic crush. The unexpected company made the Xaela realize she was lonely, and after some encouragement from Nadi'a, she joined a free company called Might & Magitek.
