♦ General

A man whose skill with the spear has proved himself a formidable force, Meta has fought in numerous battles over the years for the people of Eorzea. He has taken part in a number of operations formed and executed by the Grand Companies, of which he has always made sure to be placed in the forefront where the battling is heaviest. When there is no need for warring, Meta has spent his time as an adventurer, and more importantly, a mercenary. His history of warfare and combat experience has allowed him to survive doing such work, but it has only done that. Without any investment or position within the Grand Companies beyond his temporary services during war, Meta has little connections with the main cities of Eorzea. This in turn has led Meta to constantly travel the land for jobs, using the money he has to buy provisions, shelter, and repairs for his tools. More often then not, the money he earns is just enough to get to the next job. Truth be told, the only thing Meta has to claim as his own is his skill in combat. Still, Meta is content with his lot in life, and even more so that he has a small group of friends to share it with.

♦ History

The Battle of Carteneu: Meta was one of many who rose up to fight against the escalating aggression brought by the Garleans five years ago. While he had no affiliation with the Grand Companies, he was still recruited for the battle of Carteneu. He requested to be placed in the vanguard unit, and as such, was part of the first wave of men and woman to surge against the wave of Garlean troops. Part of the left most infantry unit, his unit's task was to push in against apposing forces and perform a hammer and anvil maneuver with the main infantry unit in the center. Their unit was greatly impeded by an unexpected heavy use of Magitek armor in the initial Garlean force. Meta met his enemies head on, holding against the opposing forces. Acting as a rear guard, Meta aided in helping the majority of the unit to retreat and reform. This in turn allowed the left vanguard to hold the line until the main forces could arrive. From there Meta continued to fight with intense ferocity until a full retreat was issued throughout the Grand Company ranks.

The Five Years: After the Battle of Carteneu, Meta simply vanished. It would not be until three years later that he resurfaced in the land of Eorzea, spear in hand, and wearing white armor very similar to that of the Azure Dragoon. For the next two years Meta would take on any odd job that paid well. It should be noted that he would take on some jobs without pay, often citing that the challenge itself was payment. It is during the end of these two years that he met the adventurer Lillith Cale, with whom he would form a lasting friendship with to current times.

Assault on the Praetorium: When the Garleans returned, Meta once again appeared to make a stand with the Grand Companies. Like five years ago, he requested to be placed in the Vanguard where fighting would be the most intense. Being the spearhead for the main forces, the Vanguard was to cut open a path and lay the foundation for the main forces. Meta did just that with his unit, scoring numerous kills and even personally taking the head of an officer of the Garlean Forces. Meta's might and skill helped in rallying the troops he fought with, giving way to a glorious success to the vanguards objective. From there, Meta would continue to fight time and time again in the campaign against the Garleans, throwing himself into the frontlines, until the call came in that victory had been achieved by the Eorzean Alliance.

After the Assault: With the allied campaign dissolved, Meta returned back to Mercenary work, avoiding and refusing any form of recruitment into the Grand Companies of Eorzea. During this time he began began to work in operation with others within Eorzea, performing a multitude of tasks that fitted his skill with the polearm. Meta also started to work more closely with Lillith, often acting as a partner and sharing in jobs with her when it fit the duo's skill set. For now this has left Meta in a rather stable, if close to the line, lifestyle to which he wouldn't complain about.

♦ Appearance

Meta is your typical midlander Hyurain, with a scar that runs along his face. Standing at just around the average height, with blue eyes and crisp blonde hair, he is as fit and tough as one might expect of a mercenary and ex soldier. Perhaps the most notable feature about Meta is not the man himself but the attire he adorns himself in. Specifically, the armor he wears. A near identical copy of the Azure dragoons armor, Meta has on more than one occasion been given the odd look for it. The armor itself is nothing more than a replica, made of high quality metals, by a smith who was happy to put their skills to use for the right amount of coin and odd jobs. That said, it is still armor and functions just as good as any suit of steel should.

♦ Behaviour

A warrior at heart, Meta has been described by some to be loyal and observant man, but with a sharp tongue and stubborn disposition. It is hard to change the man's mind, and often it requires proof to finally sway Meta, a trait that has had many downs and few ups. Meta is quick to take a very business like approach to almost any conversation, which has shown to be off putting when in a relaxed setting. This could be linked to his mercenary and warrior career, but since Meta rarely speaks of his own history, that is left stipulation. He is also known to be very fickle on smaller matters in life, much to the chagrin of Meta's allies and friends. In part this is because Meta believes things and circumstances can change, and life demands one to adjust quickly and accordingly to those changes. However, even he has admitted, albeit begrudgingly, that he can be a bit extreme on this. The fickle part of his personality does come in hand with his observational skills. This trait seems to be particularly honed, though very broad, which Meta believes can be a reason for why his changes can be extreme.

Meta has also been known to praise his allies abilities a bit beyond their actual worth, often holding them to standards they cannot actually perform at. This is actually a reflection of faith he puts in his allies, to which Meta has an abundance of. It is also why he can be a demanding man, often times holding others up to expectations based upon his own capabilities and not their own. This has often backfired on Meta, earning him the ire of others or causing his plans to fall through. Still this has not stopped Meta from forming lasting friendships, in which others will find a strong bond of loyalty, and a understanding soul to their plights. For as quick as his tongue can be, his ears are quicker, and he will lend them to friends or even acquaintances should they ask him.

Yet for his normally brave standing Meta has a bit a paranoia surrounding his actions. Meta is never found without some sort of weapon, and when without his armor, he becomes very nervous and withdrawn. He is quick to draw his weapon during these times, even on friends when he is unaware of their presence, an action which he has apologized for on multiple occasions. The only thing that stands out even more is Meta's fanatical hatred for all dragons. Conversations that have steered towards the subject quickly find Meta pointing out how ruthless and merciless the creatures are, citing any past atrocities he can think of to prove his point. This vendetta runs deep within the man's blood, and he has on multiple occasions offered his services free of charge, to anyone who offered the opportunity to fight dragons. This often leads him to the lands of Ishgard, where he has earned a reputation of sorts with the populace for his work.

Combat

There is little description on Meta's combat skill before his time as a Dragoon. Since he is not the Azure Dragoon himself, his ability to fight like one comes from Aetheric manipulation of the body, much like how Conjurors and Thaumaturgies use the Aether to rid maladies or sling flames through the air. This skill requires knowledge and training, and while it can mimic the effects of the Azure Dragoon, it is limited. The skill is not perfect and ebbs away at the users aether, making it double edged at times.

Meta's own fighting style focuses on the strength of his weapon and combat skills. He focuses on utilizing the reach and force of the spear, mixed with the movement and aerial assaults of a Dragoon. This combination has consistently proven successful for Meta though he often modifies it using continual application with history and experience, in his ever constant quest to develop a more practical combat art.

Blood on the Sands (part 2): Hearing of an assault against Ul'dah by Void sent, Meta quickly placed himself in the frontlines with newly acquainted ally, Rauffe Bell. During the initial wave of zombies, Meta was quick to dispatch body after body, aiding in holding the defensive formation. During the fight, the right rear line had been breached and pushed back. Faith in his ally, Meta broke from frontlines and rushed through zombie the horde to save the right rear line from collapsing, who was being assaulted by a rather powerful and crazed Void sent force. Upon arriving he saved a mage by the name of Xao Ganajai, and helped push back the zombie force, clearing a path for Xao to advance upon the leader of the zombie forces. Sweeping up the remaining zombies, Meta rejoined the frontlines until the Leader of the zombies was pushed back, and victory was achieved. For Meta's heroics, and the number of zombies slain at his spear, he was awarded the title Zombie Slayer and a fair sum of gil.

Friends

Lillith CaleAn adventurer Meta met while on a job. After the task was complete, the two talked over drinks and quickly found running jobs and tasks together to be far more satisfying. Meta finds her to be rather cheerful and thoughtful, something he has come to cherish over the years, and respects her willingness to put others dilemmas before her own. However, her penchant to add flair or unnecessary titles agitates him to no end, a fact he has pointed out to her on multiple occasions. Still, Meta enjoy her company and their relationship, and he would have it no other way.

Rauffe BellAn ally whom Meta fought with during the defense of Ul'dah (Blood on the Sands). They spoke at the Quicksand in Ul'dah, talking about various things, some personal, before parting ways.

Myuki KatsurugiA young adventurer which Meta has on numerous occasions spoken to, and even tested their skills by letting Myuki accompany him on a job. He considers her skills well trained and honed, believing all she needs now is more experience.

Tu'Telaire TayuunA good friend and business associate of Meta. The two met and were able to kick it off immediately, which has since then led to Meta being hired to perform a number of jobs for Tu'Telaire. Meta does not always see eye to eye with Tu'Telaire, and often disagree on where the most risk is placed in a job, but he finds it rather hard to stay displeased with the jovial and whimsical Miqo'te. At the end of the day, Meta knows Tu'Telaire means no harm and will always place his comrades safety first, and that is what truly matters.

Iron SeaA man with a friendly smile and the strength of a raging lion. Meta, along with Lillith, were hired by Iron after offering their services to aid in investigating, and subduing, the crows and their leader. While they have never truly had a chance to sit down and have a drink with one another, Meta finds the man to be honest and hardworking, traits he feels many lack in current times. These, combined with his time working under Iron, has brought favorable impressions upon Meta. He hopes that he will continue to gain employment under Iron, and perhaps finally get to that drink.

Xao GanajaiA Black mage whom Meta saved and aided during the Defense of Ul'dah against the Void sent. The two briefly exchanged words and thanks, then went their separate ways.
