x. General

Rosalind Westwind lives a largely solitary existence as an itinerant tomemonger and amateur historian. She supplies the occasional tattered volume to Ul'dah's various archives and, on occasion, by ferry to the Arcanist's Guild in Limsa Lominsa. A novice thaumaturge and arcanist, she knows only enough magic to frighten off or poison the occasional wild animal or bandit she encounters during her quests for forgotten books and scrolls. Thanalan's harsh landscape, coupled with the Calamity's recent destruction affords her plentiful pillaged caravans, abandoned homes and empty camps to survey. It is by these rather dubious methods she ekes out a meager livelihood and keeps her overstocked, yet uncannily tidy, book cart in working order.

x. Appearance

With ordinary hyuran looks and a short stature, Rosalind disappears easily in the colorful crowds of Ul'dah. She rarely dons anything but a simple hempen tunic, always with at least one grimoire latched to her belt and a rucksack filled to the brim and rustling loudly with scrolls. From this inconspicuous vantage she is forever scanning her surroundings—sharp eyes taking in every detail. She is often unaware of the fact that her persistent staring unnerves those around her—most often, her customers. Her eyes are as black as night and her dark brown hair is forever overgrown, unkempt and thick with dust. Her skin remains unusually pallid for an Ul'dahn on account of her nocturnal ruin-raiding habits and long hours within the Ossuary's walls.

x. Past

Rosalind has spent all of her years in Ul'dah.

x. Present

Called by the Unknown

With only vague and scattered memories of the many moons leading up to the Calamity, Rosalind lives an unsettled, fragmented life. She clings to written knowledge and spends much of her time engrossed in history books, recovered journals and magical theory. The more she submerges herself in the writings she finds, the more she becomes resigned to a belief that the answers she seeks may lie far beyond the gates of Ul'dah. She sleeps only to find restless dreams. What does the coming of the Seventh Umbral Era portend? Surely an even greater struggle—an even deeper misery—than has already befallen Eorzea. She looks up, out of the pages of her book, beyond the Gate of Nald. Her eyes begin to linger. What knowledge truly lies beyond the trade routes and scattered ruins of Thanalan?

x. Relationships

[PC] Yvane Ashdale - Rosalind does her best to avoid this persistently flirtatious young sellsword. The younger girl regularly attempts to seek out the tome cart and make advances. Yvane must be exceptionally resilient or dense. Perhaps the two traits go hand in hand?

[PC] Rowan Hunt - Rosalind regards this taciturn young man with gratitude after he aided her in recovering a stolen tome from her market stall. She recently learned of his faraway origins in La Noscea and has taken an interest in helping him adjust to his new life in bustling Ul'dah.

[NPC] Roroton - A childhood friend of Rosalind's who has grown to be her best friend. A discerning goldsmith, merchant and collector of rare valuables, they work together on occasion when Rosalind's salvage operations yield spoils of the more conventionally valuable sort. They rarely pass a moon without seeing each other, and when they find their carts side-by-side, are inseparable in their conversation. Rosalind has harbored feelings for the lalafel, but has never been one to acknowledge her own romantic desires or deem them important.

x. Rumors

  • "Swear I've seen her skirting around my cart at night, rifling through my wares." — Ul'dahn Merchant
  • "The bookmonger? Always staring at me when I pass by to check her new stock. Odd. Don't ask her about the Calamity. You'll be standing out in the sun for hours while she goes on." — Customer
  • "Oh, Rosa! Always something interesting to sell, if she doesn't keep it for herself. I'm always looking for her cart, but she seems to disappear for moons at a time, and without notice." — Lalafellin Customer
  • "I met her, once. I think I'd like to meet her again." — Young Man With Red Hair
