<!-- Welcome to the wiki format! This note isn't going to appear on the finished wiki, obviously, but you're welcome to keep it here for reference back if you'd like, otherwise just delete what's between the arrows.  A few things to note before you get started - paragraphs should be separated with a pair of breaks (<br><br>) and inside the div for that particular paragraph.  List items should always be added with : in front of them so that it adds them appropriately to the list. If you have any stumbles over the formatting, I can be reached via the RPC as Glioca Sargonnai -- It’s recommended that you save frequently as you’re doing the initial edits to make sure you have a roll-back point in the event of a coding break, as sometimes rolling back a single edit can fix the problem and re-edits are much simpler than having to redo entire sections of text! Keep in mind that colors are formatted so that you can replace them easily with the find & replace function in notepad or word documents. - Regards, Glio. -->

Anatole de Dampierre was born into a lesser noble family of Ishgard and was raised as the only heir to the Dampierre estate. As such, much of his youth was comprised of studying under his father, Lourax de Dampierre, in estate management and proper etiquette of the court, war, and sports. However as Anatole grew into a young man he became smitten with Delphine Catrice, the daughter of a nobleman. The seemingly harmless crush soon blossomed into a beautiful love and with the blessing of Halone, Anatole proposed to Delphine.

Anatole de Dampierre and Delphine Catrice were wed on the 18th sun of the Fourth Astral Moon, in the year 1569 of the Sixth Astral Era. Although "to young to wed" as some had suggested, their love was true and their dedication to one another was strong. Their marriage was a prosperous partnership and Halone soon gifted them with their first child, who they named Alphonse for his noble beauty. Anatole continued to shadow his father, Louraux de Dampierre, in his daily buisness-- knowing that one day the management of the estate would rest on his shoulders. The estate flourished, as did Anatoles family-- his wife and child would want for nothing.

The family grew once more as Anatole and Delphine welcomed their second child, Amandine, who was named for her lovable smile. Although three years elder to Amandine, Alphonse proved to be a doting brother. With new life filling their home the family flourished in happiness.

On the 11th sun of the 6th Astral Moon, in the Year 1572 of the 6th Astral Era the lesser moon Dalamud unleashed Bahamut upon Eorzea, creating the event known as "The Calamity". The cold winds buffeted Ishgard and the young Elezan couple did their best to protect their family from the fallout of the Calamity. While young Amandine grew with vigour, her elder brother, Alphonse, suffered from an unexplainable illness. Clerics and the-like did what they could for the young boy but he continued to the suffer as the years passed. Finally, in year two of the 7th Umbral Era, Alphonse suffering ended and the boy passed silently in the night.

Anatole and Delphine lived off the flame of hope, it burned brightly in their soul each day as they prayed for there childs recovery. However, when they buried their infant son the hope that filled their beings was now nothing more than choking smoke, bubbling in their lungs and suffocating them.

While Delphine, in her wisdom, blamed no one for her sons death-- Anatole was consumed and blinded by grief, blaming himself for his sons death. He became obsessed with Halone and his devotion to her worship-- Somehow believing that the Goddess could restore what they had lost. Her husbands withdrawal, and inability to grieve with her affected Delphine greatly; she began to question her husbands love for their now deceased son, and this seed began to sicken her mind. Aware of her feelings of unrest, Delphine attempted to reach out to Anatole for comfort and support. These actions were only met with neglect, as Anatole denied any attention and affection to both his suffering wife, Delphine, and his infant daughter, Amandine.

As the sorrow in Anatole's belly grew, so did the sickness in Delphines mind. Both were consumed and lost in the sea of grief.

It passed from the second to the fourth year in the 7th Umbral Era, and still Anatole could not pull himself from his self imposed state of servitude. He could not bring himself to care for his wife, nor his young daughter. Delphine suffered greatly during the years, not only had she lost her son, but she had also been denied her husband, and denied her time to grieve as she cared for young Amandine. Anatole, in her mind, had abandoned her. And so, the seed that had been allowed to take root in her mind began to blossomed into a deadly poison. One that clouded her thoughts with paranoia and wicked waking dreams.

Anatole refused to accept his wife's deteriorating mental condition-- her "foolish acts" of wandering the home and speaking only in whispers began to turn his sorrow into rage. He grew to resent her, to blame her for the loss of love he felt towards her, and their daughter. Often he would return to their home only to berate and belittle her-- shouting all manner of abuse at his wife. Delphine became an object to Anatol, an inanimate being for him to unleash his fury upon-- something for him to control and command as he saw fit. In the midst of the nightly shouting, Delphine would rock, quietly, with Amandine in her arms and whisper soft songs of comfort. An act that drove Anatole into a deeper rage.

One evening as Anatole returned home, earlier then expected, he found Delphine holding Amandine under water. Horrified, Anatol laid hands on Delphine and rescued his daughter-- to his relief the young girl was still alive. When he confronted Delphine she could do no more than cry, as if she too did not know why or how it had happened. Anatole, staring into the crying face of his wife, could not bring himself to believe that she had acted with purpose. That Delphine, the kind and wise woman he had once loved, would attempt to steal the one child he had left. No, he could not face what was right before his eyes. So with a bitter kindness, Anatole laid Amandine to bed and let the matter pass.

Delphine became more paranoid as the moons passed. Certain that Anatol meant to take Amandine away she resolved to run. Delphine had become anchored to Amandine-- she was everything to her, more than her child. Amandine had become the 'thing' that defined who Delphine was. Without Amandine, Delphine thought she would exist as nothing, be no-one, have no purpose. That she would physically and mentally fade away. So Delphine gathered Amandine when the sun sank beneath the horizon and stole away into the evening. Abandoning Anatol, just as he had abandoned them.

::<div style="font-family:Georgia; font-size:13px; color:#999999;"> Acasius, in recent years, has taken on the personality portrait of the ISFJ.  He has a firm desire to believe in the best of people, and a has a clear idea of the way things should be-- which is something he is constantly striving to attain.  He has a difficult time expressing his feelings, preferring instead to keep them hidden. However, if negative feelings are allowed to build up inside him then they are likely to turn into firm judgments against others, this has lead him to be resentful in the past. Like most ISFJ's, Acasius has a strong sense of duty and responsibility-- he feels bound and committed to the responsibilities he takes up, even if has abandoned them. This duality between wanting to do something, and feeling/being unable to do it, can lead him to feeling inadequate and undeserving.  However his resolve to attain his ideal and live up to the standard of his values always keeps him moving forward. </div>

When he found them they stood at the city walls, Delphine held Amandine in her arms tightly. Consumed by rage and confusion, Anatol lashed out at Delphine-- accusing her verbally of being "sick, deranged and a thief." He lamented to her that he could not believe that she would steal his child from him. That he could not believe how "witless" she had become-- how she had failed as a mother and a wife. Anatol's fury battered Delphine like waves upon the sand. With each spiteful piece spit from his mouth she felt a little more of herself wash away.

: <div style="font-family:Georgia;"><font style="color:#585350;" size="2"> Anatole de Dampierre was born into a lesser noble family of Ishgard and was raised as the only heir to the Dampierre estate. As such, much of his youth was comprised of studying under his father, Lourax de Dampierre, in estate management and proper etiquette of the court, war, and sports. However as Anatole grew into a young man he became smitten with Delphine Catrice, the daughter of a nobleman. The seemingly harmless crush soon blossomed into a beautiful love and with the blessing of Halone, Anatole proposed to Delphine.<br><br>Anatole de Dampierre and Delphine Catrice were wed on the 18th sun of the Fourth Astral Moon, in the year 1569 of the Sixth Astral Era. Although "to young to wed" as some had suggested, their love was true and their dedication to one another was strong. Their marriage was a prosperous partnership and Halone soon gifted them with their first child, who they named Alphonse for his noble beauty. Anatole continued to shadow his father, Louraux de Dampierre, in his daily business-- knowing that one day the management of the estate would rest on his shoulders. The estate flourished, as did Anatoles family-- his wife and child would want for nothing.<br><br>The family grew once more as Anatole and Delphine welcomed their second child, Amandine, who was named for her lovable smile. Unable to live with reality Anatol set out to become a Dragoon-- with nothing left in his life to give purpose, or meaning, he sought to die upon the field of battle. One last honour to Halone. Upon entering the Knighthood Anatol denounced his title as heir to the Dampierre estate and fortune-- ensuring that he would focus on nothing else but becoming a Dragoon.

Despite his honed skills with a lance, his superiors with-held the honoured title; stating his mental control needed to be improved before he faced true dragons in battle. Spurned by this "uncharacteristic" criticism laid upon him, Anatol made efforts to hide his mental state instead of improve it. An endeavour that proved successful as he soon donned the famous regalia of the Dragoon.

The cold winds buffeted Ishgard and the young Elezan couple did their best to protect their family from the fallout of the Calamity. While young Amandine grew with vigour, her elder brother, Alphonse, suffered from an unexplainable illness. Sometime after achieving his rank Anatol enters into combat with a dragon on the walls of Ishard. The dragon nearly kills Anatol, who is only saved by the actions of another Dragoon. Instead of assisting his comrade Dragoon, Anatol flee's the battle-- effectively becoming a deserter. His near death experience had riddled him with fear-- a fear of dying. Realizing what he had done, and the punishments for doing so, Anatol resolved to flee the state.

: <div style="font-family:Georgia;"><font style="color:#585350;" size="2">It passed from the second to the fourth year in the 7th Umbral Era, and still Anatole could not pull himself from his self imposed state of servitude. He could not bring himself to care for his wife, nor his young daughter. Delphine suffered greatly during the years, not only had she lost her son, but she had also been denied her husband, and denied her time to grieve as she cared for young Amandine. Anatole, in her mind, had abandoned her. And so, the seed that had been allowed to take root in her mind began to blossom into a deadly poison. One that clouded her thoughts with paranoia and wicked waking dreams.<br><br>Anatole refused to accept his wife's deteriorating mental condition-- her "foolish acts" of wandering the home and speaking only in whispers began to turn his sorrow into rage. He grew to resent her, to blame her for the loss of love he felt towards her, and their daughter. Often he would return to their home only to berate and belittle her-- shouting all manner of abuse at his wife. Delphine became an object to Anatole, an inanimate being for him to unleash his fury upon-- something for him to control and command as he saw fit. In the midst of the nightly shouting, Delphine would rock, quietly, with Amandine in her arms and whisper soft songs of comfort. An act that drove Anatole into a deeper rage. <br><br>One evening as Anatole returned home, earlier than expected, he found Delphine holding Amandine under water. Horrified, Anatole laid hands on Delphine and rescued his daughter-- to his relief the young girl was still alive. So with a bitter kindness, Anatole laid Amandine to bed and let the matter pass.</font></div><br>

He took with him his armour and weapon packed in a box but abandoned his name and identity as he left the walls of his city behind.

Anatol brands himself a coward, among other things. He travels from place to place, and wears many disguises, as if it would help him be a better man.

Without Amandine, Delphine thought she would exist as nothing, be no-one, have no purpose. That she would physically and mentally fade away. General Information
Acasius Babineaux, born Anatole de Dampierre, is a former noble and Dragon Knight of Ishgard. When nearly meeting death in battle at the talons of a dragon, Anatole defected from his duty and state. Unable to return to Ishgard out of fear of prosecution, Anatole has denounced his identity and now travels as the self-named Acasius Babineaux.
They lay down their lives for those they have sworn to protect. We all need to believe there are such men in the world. I needed to believe I could be one of them."
Appearance

Scars
Style
Straight back. Disciplined. Numerous facial and body mutilations. Unassuming. Well worn and loose clothing.
Hair & Eyes
His hair suffers from mismanagement and neglect. It has become obvious by the frayed ends, and uneven cuts, that the strands are regularly chopped with a blade. Despite the frops abysmal state, there is an obvious attempt to style the mess-- long strands are left to dangle about the face and drape the shoulders. The stark white strands stand to emphasize the mans naturally piercing eyes-- whose vibrant amber colouring had been gifted to him by his mother.
Physique & Markings
Acacius posses the build of a soldier. His shoulders are wide, and his posture is disciplined. Although still possessing the lithe body common to all Elezen, the man has managed to put on a fair bit of definable muscle mass. Marks of battle rest upon his skin, littering his body as subtle reminders of a life since passed. Facially, his features begin to tell the tale of his age and life-- the skin around his eyes has darkened and thinned, subtle wrinkles trace around his expressions, and there is a tired look to his skin. Scars, the kind which has no business being on a face, hug the corners of his profile-- from his jawline to his hairline. -
Hygiene & Attire
Living from inn room to inn room can take a toll upon the man; making it common for him to smell of sweat and leather. It could be said that he does not enjoy being "unclean", but living the way he does he leaves him with little option. The same level of care applied to his hygiene is also evident in his attire-- his clothes are often unwashed and tattered. Whether or not he possess "formal" clothes is yet to be seen.

Personality Profile
Acasius, in recent years, has taken on the personality portrait of the ISFJ.
Philosophy & Mannerisms
He has a clear defined set of values and ideals which he is uncompromising on. If an individual were to act, or speak, against his resolve in those areas, he would likely lose favor with that individual and attempt to distance himself. Much of his values and ideals revolve around various concepts of justice and being "just". He strives to be the good man and the good citizen, however his own personality flaws sometimes hinder him in this pursuit.

History
Acasius likes to keep his cards close to his chest. He won't be interested in discussing his past, or details about who he is. If he were to share any private information it would be a monumental leap of faith on his part, and show a sincere appreciation and trust.
If you are playing an Ishgardian character it would be acceptable to know some details of his past without being told-- since the larger events would be near public knowledge in the right gossip circles. However, please keep in mind that my character has changed his name, and appearance since living in Ishgard and will deny having any accusations-- *unless there has been a rapport built up.
Disclaimer: I am extremely new to FFXIV and still learning the lore. As such, points of this backstory are likely to change as my understanding improves. Please consider this as a work in progress and not the final result.
Early Years
The Golden Years
Anatole de Dampierre was born into a lesser noble family of Ishgard and was raised as the only heir to the Dampierre estate.

Anatole continued to shadow his father, Louraux de Dampierre, in his daily business-- knowing that one day the management of the estate would rest on his shoulders.

The Begining to an End
Tragedy

Anatole and Delphine lived off the flame of hope, it burned brightly in their soul each day as they prayed for their child's recovery. However, when they buried their infant son the hope that filled their beings was now nothing more than choking smoke, bubbling in their lungs and suffocating them.

While Delphine, in her wisdom, blamed no one for her son's death-- Anatole was consumed and blinded by grief, blaming himself for his son's death. He became obsessed with Halone and his devotion to her worship-- Somehow believing that the Goddess could restore what they had lost. Her husband's withdrawal, and inability to grieve with her, affected Delphine greatly; she began to question her husband's love for their now deceased son, and this seed began to sicken her mind.

The Gravity of Loss
A Mothers Love
It passed from the second to the fourth year in the 7th Umbral Era, and still Anatole could not pull himself from his self imposed state of servitude. He could not bring himself to care for his wife, nor his young daughter. Delphine suffered greatly during the years, not only had she lost her son, but she had also been denied her husband, and denied her time to grieve as she cared for young Amandine. Anatole, in her mind, had abandoned her. And so, the seed that had been allowed to take root in her mind began to blossom into a deadly poison.

One evening as Anatole returned home, earlier than expected, he found Delphine holding Amandine under water. Horrified, Anatole laid hands on Delphine and rescued his daughter-- to his relief the young girl was still alive.

The Fall
Sometimes when you win, you lose..
Delphine became more paranoid as the moons passed. Certain that Anatole meant to take Amandine away she resolved to run. Abandoning Anatole, just as he had abandoned them.

Arriving to an empty home spurred fears that had rested in the pit of Anatole’s stomach-- fears that now coiled his innards like snakes and squeezed the breath from him. Still, he pushed onwards and pursued his wife and daughter, scouring the city for their presence.

When he found them they stood at the city walls, Delphine held Amandine in her arms tightly. Consumed by rage and confusion, Anatole lashed out at Delphine-- accusing her verbally of being "sick, deranged and a thief." He lamented to her that he could not believe that she would steal his child from him. That he could not believe how "witless" she had become-- how she had failed as a mother and a wife. Anatole's fury battered Delphine like waves upon the sand. With each spiteful piece spit from his mouth she felt a little more of herself wash away.

Anatole made to lay hands upon Delphine, to drag her home, but as he moved forwards she moved back. It was in this moment that they both realized what was to come. Delphine, realizing that the only way she could keep her child, pressed her heels against the city's low rising wall. "Sometimes when you win, you lose.."

Delphine tipped her body back, over the barricade of the wall with Amandine in her arms. A fall that killed both of them.

Redmeption;Divine
Armour for the soul
Following the great tragedies of his life, Anatole renounced his family title and nobility. Struggling to face the gravity of events that had circled his life, and his involment in there outcomes, he devoted himself to becoming a Dragon Knight of Ishgard. An act that was both selfless and cowardly. For when Anatole was asked to comment on the death of his wife and young daughter, he only responded with "she fell". Unable, still, to accept the reality of what had happened, he sought to hide his pain, and guilt, under the armour of the Dragoon.

Anatole was inspired by the strength of will, duty and honour of the Dragon Knights. He witnessed them lay their life on the line to defend the city and their loved ones. This stirred something in Anatole that made him believe he may still be redeemed-- that if he gave his life to the city he may find peace in the world after.

During a particular wicked encounter with a dragon Anatole was struck down, the visor of his helmet ripped from his face. The dragon had its way, maiming Anatole with its massive claws, before he was rescued by a friend and colleague. Slipping in and out of consciousness Anatole experienced a "new death" vision which led him to believe that his soul was destined for torment as a result of the actions of his life. Scared, bleeding, and nearly dead, Anatole crawled away from battle-- leaving his friend behind to fend against the mighty dragon.

Anatole nursed his wounds in a private location and packed a bag. Scared to face death, Anatole resolved to flee the city and abandon his duty. Knowing that he could never return to his life, for he would surely be prosecuted as a deserter, he created a new identity for himself .

In Recent Times
A Good Man
Anatole has since abandoned his birth name and taken the alias "Acacius Babinaeux' in its stead. The disguise he wears somehow comforts him, helping him thinking he still has a chance at being a good man.
