History . Disclaimer: . Sixth Astral Era Childhood Grew up on a small farm in La Noscea with her two fathers. Though she was adopted, she was never made to feel it - she always felt her quiet seriousness was a perfect fit as the counter-point to her fathers' over-the-top bravado. She spent much of her childhood rather isolated from the rest of the world, stuck on a farm far, far away from the city. The only real contact from the outside world came on days when one of her fathers would bring her to market or a friend of theirs from their adventuring days came by to visit. She was enthralled by the city from an early age. Its people were free, its future bright. There was poverty, but all suffered equally for it, and all struggled valiantly against it. She was equally entranced by the stories her fathers friends would tell of their adventures. Skaenryss - her Roegadyn father - had been a healer of some small renown in his youth. She grew to idolize him and sought to follow in his footsteps. She spent night and day reading up on the art of Aether and learning how to control her own. Each visit to the city brought her library closer and closer to overflow. She created a band of imaginary adventurers in her head and would run around the countryside and its nearby beaches, chasing fictitious krakens and Leviathans to their doom. By the time she'd reached early teenhood, she'd grown confident in her abilities, and was certain she had a bright future ahead of her. Seventh Umbral Era Adulthood Adulthood did not treat her so kindly. When she attempted to learn Conjury proper and follow in her father's footsteps, she found that she had a natural tendency toward battle rage that overwhelmed her ability to focus and channel her healing spells. Try as she might, she couldn't properly channel her aether whilst focusing on the injuries incurred by her comrades. She was forced to give up on conjury and, taking umbrage at the thought of letting all those years of study go to waste, took up arcanima. Focused on bringing harm to her opponents rather than the injuries inflicted on her comrades, she was better able to complete her spells, though something still felt... off. It hadn't been what she'd wanted to do as a girl. It hadn't been her dream. Life threw a second curveball at her soon after. A few days following her final decision on her career path, her fathers announced that they were to take a ship to the New World in search of adventure. A Lalafell friend of theirs had convinced them that glory and excitement was waiting just across the horizon. Their daughter fully-grown and unwilling to leave their glory days behind them, the two men bid their daughter a tearful adieu before sailing off. Years later, she's still yet to hear from them. In Recent Times Moving Forward Her confidence shaken by her failure and the disappearance of her fathers, Abyllona has had a rocky start to her adult life. She sunk into a bit of a depression for some time, fueled by her own sense of inferiority and failure. The reasonable amount of self-confidence she'd been granted by her fathers had melted away along with her chances at a career at conjuring. Even when she found a style of healing that circumvented some of her failures in the form of Nymian arcanima, the hole wasn't filled. 'It wasn't my adept healing magicks that saved the day', she'd think to herself. 'It was the fairy.' Still, not everything was bad. During this period, she met one Wyznuwil Zwynspyrwyn, an outgoing and bull-headed young woman who she quickly fell for. Wyz brought out much of the best in Abyllona, and she found that with her, she regained some of that sense of self-worth she'd lost as a teenager. Still, Abyllona couldn't find true satisfaction so long as her job reminded her of her failures. Gaining semi-permanent entrance into Ishgard under an adventurer's contract, she soon heard word of the path of the Dark Knight. Warriors who utilized their emotions in channeling magic rather than suppressing them? Defenders defended others before all else? Revolutionaries who were willing to strike at the corrupt heart of the Ishgardian clergy? Abyllona was certainly interested in all that. After obtaining a soul-stone under somewhat sketchy means, she began training in the use of greatswords and in the ways of the Dark Knight. The path has been arduous, but rewarding. She can finally work and put her whole self into her work rather than futilely trying to control emotions that are both natural and healthy. She can finally start feeling like she has a place in the world. She can finally do something worth doing rather than subsisting off of garbage adventuring jobs that hardly pay for themselves. Abyllona has never been happier.
