Gaius van Balsar, Legatus of the XIVth Legion, objected strenuously. Eorzea was to be conquered, not destroyed. Such loss of life and resources was as stupid as it was cruel, but he was overruled by Emperor Solus. Project Meteor would be implemented with all due dispatch and secrecy. van Balsar committed treason by assisting, if subtly, the heroes of Eorzea with information and resources to use against Darnus in preventing this Calamity from occuring. Weeding out sympathizers amongst the legions deployed to the continent, he (through intermediaries and other deceptive techniques) fed them enough information to turn them against the Empire entirely, defectors due to their consciences. Amongst these defectors was Aeliana Quirinus, a half-Garlean young woman.

Aeliana Quirinus didn't have the most auspicious start to life. Her mother, a Tribune of the VIIth Legion, found herself having custody of a handsome young man from Sharlayan, a powerful spell-caster that had for several years resided on the 'barbarian' continent of Eorzea in order to study the magics of its beast-tribes. Deciding to reward herself for her victory over such lesser people as these, she made him her lover. She was beautiful enough that it wasn't the worst fate the member of a conquered populace could have, but she cared little for what he wanted and was more than willing to threaten not only himself but those he cared for with nightmarish things if he wouldn't become what amounted to a sex slave. Whether she was looking to take a break from the military, wanted to breed a magical Garlean, or simply was to lost in her rapacious passions to take contraceptives, the Tribune became pregnant. Nine months later, Aeliana was born.

As a daughter of a military officer and native-born Garlean, Aeliana was a Citizen from the moment she was born., but this fact brought little joy to her life. When her 'family' was rotated back to Islabard, her father ran afoul of a band of particularly unpleasant noble youths and was killed. Of course, since he was only a slave, her mother was compensated with gil and the youths were conscripted into the military...as military police in Garlemald itself. Though only a child, it was quite clear to her that her father had meant nothing to her mother or anyone else she knew. Fortunately, her mother cared enough at least to give her a proper education and kept her fed and clothed.

 +
Her youth and teenaged years were nothing but misery, surrounded by people that were at best apathetic and at worst attempting to harm her for the perceived impurity of her blood, but she (inspired by her mother) strongly believed in the meritocratic society Garlemald purported to be, as well as the danger that the Primals posed to the safety of Hydaelyn and its people. As such, she had her mother enter her into a military academy as soon as she was old enough. Upon graduation, she joined up with the XIVth legion under the legendary and deeply respected Gaius van Baelsar, who was famed for his lack of care for bloodlines and his appreciation for an individual's talents. With the invasion of Ala Mhigo, she worked hard to ensure that the conquered populace was as well-treated as possible, and any rapists on either side were quickly and publicly executed or turned into slave laborers so long as she had the authority to influence the decisions.
 +
 +
Unfortunately, her sympathetic behavior gained her few friends and many enemies amongst her supposed comrades, and her very nature as a Garlean occupier was far more important to the Ala Mhigans than her even-handed enforcement of law and her outright protection of their people. Many a Garlean in this position would have found themselves with their throat cuts some dark night, but her fate (while perilous) was not so immediately fatal as that. Instead, she was earmarked by Gaius van Baelsar to be one of his unwitting messengers to the Eorzean Alliance in his efforts to sabotage Project Meteor. She was among many who smuggled information and defectors to the Alliance through a network of cutouts and veiled informants, all organized by the somewhat-rogue Legatus, and eventually ended up fighting alongside the Ishgardian contingent at the Battle of Carteneau.

Eventually forced to flee from Ala Mhigo after being framed (ironically, for taking bribes from Ala Mhigan citizens, as opposed to the actual treason she had committed), Aeliana tried to make her way in Gridania. However, despite her status as a defector and a former informant, Gridania had been hit hardest of the southern city-states during the war with The Empire. Despite the leadership and example of Kan-E-Senna, the people and protectors of Gridania made it clear that they had no interest in letting one of their former enemies live amongst them, no matter what she had or hadn't done over the course of her career. Attempts to find common ground, and even helping fight against several marauding bands of Garlean legionnaires that had turned to banditry, did nothing to improve either their opinion of her or their willingness to tolerate her presence. Rejected by no small portion of the people she had risked her life and lost everything she had ever known in order to help, she began to wander. Living off the land, entering settlements only when she had no choice, she began making her way south towards Thanalan. She hoped that the mercenary inhabitants of the Golden City would be more interested in the services she could offer rather than the blood in her veins.

She was...technically right.

While the people of Ul'dah did not reach her with burning torches and pitchforks, they weren't exactly eager to see her either, by and large.  Though they had suffered far less than their Gridanian and Ala Mhigan neighbors had, they had lost countless sons and daughters in battle with the Empire all the same, and they now had a refugee crisis in the form of hundreds of Ala Mhigans seeking the prosperity and opportunity of which their city so proudly boasted. However, and fortunately(?) for Aeliana, their pragmatic greed outweighed their contempt and disgust, if only barely. As a result, she was in fact able to find the new life she had been striving for: doing scut work for the Syndicate.

The lowest-paying and highest-risk jobs, those were hers. The jobs that nearly no one else was willing to take, and anyone who was as desperate was far less equipped. No doubt the people taking advantage would have liked her to be sufficiently cowed and collared to sign her life away, but a veteran of suffering such as herself was far more capable of living frugally and harshly than they expected. Refusing to whore herself out or compromise on what jobs she would perform, she raised her reputation and network of contacts continuously over the next five years, until she was finally secure enough to choose her own jobs at will. Now, she lives in Ul'dah between contracts, a Soldier of Fortune with at least one woman in every settlement on the continent. Committed to no one and hollowed out by years of solitude, trying in vain to connect to strangers when she can barely connect to herself.

Appearance
Hair & Eyes
Aeliana keeps her hair short, preventing it from being used against her as leverage in close combat or from getting caught on anything in the environment. Her bangs are long and carefully arranged to veil, but not hide, the third eye that is a relic of her unwanted ancestry. Her eyes are heterochromatic, the right being a liquid violet and the left being a deep burgundy. They are often cold and expressionless when in public.
Physique & Markings
Aeliana has spent the entirety of her life fighting for survival, and it shows. She is in perfect shape for fighting. Her body is powerfully muscled despite her small stature, wiry but not unfeminine. Her bust is fairly large for a Midlander, a large B or small C. The most notable tattoos Aeliana bares are the Emblems of each primal she has slain on her shoulders. The most visible are the two rune-like marks on her cheeks. Aeliana has plenty of scars, the legacy of a lifetime of abuses from her neighbors and battles, only one of which an average person will see: a small gouge across the bridge of her nose.
Hygiene & Attire
Though she is a Soldier of Fortune, a rather more high-society mercenary than the usual gutter-scum, Aeliana is a mercenary all the same. She has little problem with getting dirtied and bloodied when necessary, even if the benefits of finery and perfumes (such as beautiful, sheltered maidens whose hearts quicken at the attentions of a dashing rogue) are something that she very much enjoys indulging in.
Aeliana is almost always wearing armor of some kind, predominantly medium or heavy armor to suit her preferred styles of combat. She also prefers to wear darker colors, trending heavily towards black. This is mostly because her ‘casual clothes’ would have her mistaken for a street dancer or a courtesan, and breaking the fingers of wandering hands quickly grows dull./div>
Personality
Psychological Profile
Aeliana is, at her core, a broken person desperately seeking validation in her value. Abused and rejected by her family for being the child of a Garlean occupier and the man she had raped, abused and rejected by her neighbors, abused and rejected by the Garleans, abused and rejected by many in Eorzea. All for the crime of being born, all for things beyond her power or will. Bereft of anyone who saw value in her, she suffers in silence and drowns her pain in drink, women, battle, and its spoils. Whether she will find a new purpose or someone who cares for her existence before she dies in battle, no one can say.
Voice
Aeliana's voice is husky and low, often devoid of emotion beyond snarky sarcasm when interacting with strangers. Only for a select few are allowed to hear anything else in her voice. [Jennifer Hale aka Commander Shepard]
Philosophy & Mannerisms
Trained from birth to believe that she has no value and her existence is worthless, Aeliana throws herself into battle with reckless abandon, uncaring of the potential for injuries so long as she gains victory. She is well-regarded by the members of the Alliance that she fight behinds, for though she is often in a position of authority over them, she always leads from the front and is more than willing to give her own life to preserve theirs. However, that regard goes hand in hand with fear and distrust, because following a leader that many call 'Deathseeker' is a dangerous thing indeed. A broken bird, Aeliana is desperately hoping that someone will nurse her back to health and help her spread her wings.

Low: Self-Control/Self-preservation
Non-Combat Abilities
(Passive) All-consuming Apathy: Aeliana is someone who sees no value in themself, and struggles to imagine anyone else can see value in her. As such, she has little care for self-preservation, and it shows with every action she takes and word she speaks. Simply put, Aeliana doesn't care anymore.
Kinesthesia and Situational Awareness: Aeliana learns by doing, which is how she is able to fight in so many different ways. While she enjoys reading, she has significant difficulty learning in this way. She is also what some might call paranoid, thought she prefers to think of it as high situational awareness and cautionary attitude.
Combat Abilities
(Passive)Soldier of Fortune Aeliana has dedicated her entire life to gathering material goods and experiencing carnal pleasures, trying to fill the void in her heart where the love of family and friend ought to reside. As such, she has middling to expert skills in gathering, crafting, and warfare.
My Life for Yours Aeliana will greatly enhance her speed, essentially teleporting herself to a fixed point to either attack or defend a targeted individual. Should only be used very rarely due to potential for disorientation and the not-insignificant aetherial cost.
Voice of the Damned: Aeliana focuses her aether to her vocal cords and lets lose a high-pitched shrieking sound that is severely debilitating and disorienting to those in ear shot. Given that it effects ANYONE in audible range, it cannot be used with allies except in the most dire of circumstances.
Sacrifice Aeliana channels a dangerous amount of aether into a large explosion of magic around herself, making herself critically vulnerable until she recovers. A move of desperation, performed only when she feels outmatched by multiple opponents.
Shatterpoint: Aeliana tends to focus on placing significant strength behind her blows while targeting certain points of her enemy or the landscape. These blows, while powerful, are ungainly. They often miss with devastating results to whatever they ultimately hit
(Limit Break)Deathseeker: When the battle turns grim and defeat is imminent, when a hero becomes so inspired they push beyond their boundaries, when a long slumbering power is awoken, a person's Limit Break is revealed. Aeliana trades damage now for damage later, significantly increasing her physical abilities (speed, strength, etc.) while damaging her muscles severely. If she failed to defeat her opponent within a short time frame of activation, she would be overwhelmed by pain and weakness, becoming utterly helpless.

NPC Rumors

Some of these rumors are untrue, speculation, or are greatly exaggerated.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
"I heard she's obsessed with chocolate. Utterly obsessed." — Random Merchant.
"I worry about her, I really do. Always coming into the city bloody and in tattered clothes, half-dead because she took some damn fool mission alone, stumbling off to the Quicksand to collapse. Damn girl needs to accept help from time to time!." — Exasperated City Guard.
"That girl will seduce anything with two legs an a pair of tits, you know! I heard she once had every Songbird at once! Left them singing her praises after keeping them in that inn room for three whole days!Gods, I'd love to have her as a client. Hells, I'd be HER client!" — Lustful Ul'dahn Dancer.
"She's a maniac, psychotic! Just randomly attacks men for no reason in the Quicksand or the streets, she does! She needs to get locked up 'fore she can hurt someone too badly!" — Brass Blade later killed by a female Raen Samurai he tried to sexually assault. .
◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"I heard she's actually a real big softy. Loves the kids, rescues the damsels, the whole knight-in-shining-armor deal. Minus the shining armor, of course. She prefers black." — Grand Company Fighter.
"I heard that she's a Garlean of some sort, from up there in Islabard don't you know?" — Tavern Keeper.
◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"Heard her mother was some Tribunus way back when, raped some poor bastard she took a fancy too after one of the Conquests. Guess he was some sort of super-magician an' she hoped to breed a magical Garlean baby. 'pose it worked, didn't it?" — Seafaring Merchants.
"Some people say she's lookin' for redemption. For what, who can say, but I bet it was some real dark stuff." — Adventurer.

IC Inventory
The following items are things that this individual carries on their person at all times. These are noted for pickpockets, and those watching her closely. This information is meant to be a prompt for insight and is not to be meta-gamed, though feel free to use this information if it comes up logically in RP (pickpocketing, a search, etc) with use of a simple /tell.

RP Limits
I like to consider myself a flexible player who is willing to commit to a number of different types of scenes and role-play scenarios, but even I have my limits. If something is on the play list, assume it means yes, as long as it's within the context of the current play or ongoing plot. No's are typically a hard no, and it means don't ask.
I will play almost any kind of RP. Anything with permanent, IC effects must be cleared with me first. .
Ask about any sort of ERP or long-term IC effects. .
I won't play anything I don't want to! .
RP Hooks
While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP, unless I'm actively spamming PvE content.
Being recognized by other Garlean Roleplayers from her time in the Legions
Being recognized by people who've watched her seduce someone.
Being recognized by other adventurers or random passers-by for her various engagements with the Empire or other threats.

Player Note
There is a lot of information on this character wiki, but it is by no means completely comprehensive. There are chunks of backstory that are left intentionally vague so that details can be later added as developed through creative writing or in role-play revelation. Feel free to use Common or Uncommon rumors freely, if you want to use a Rare Rumor as a plot hook or to spark RP, I would ask that you send me a tell first, to make certain it's alright.
