Character

General

Burning Passion is a very energetic and powerful monk who has come to this world from an almost identical parallel dimension by way of a freak fluctuation of the Interdimensional Rift. The world as he knows it and many of the people in it are exactly the same, but many more are complete strangers to him when he should be familiar and many of his previous contacts no longer exist. Regardless, he has come to terms with his predicament and continues to fight against the Primals and the Beastmen of this new reality just as he had in the old. What else could he do? He couldn't go back, but this world was so similar to the old one, that it hardly made any difference at all.

Appearance

<Clothing TBD, will be more concrete during Patch 2.2 when Vanity Slots are released.>

Burning is a Roegadyn and, as such is a very large, very stocky individual. He has darkly tanned skin and vibrant red hair with golden highlights, looking as if to resemble fire itself. He has four parallel scars over his left eye and nose, which originate from a scrap with his Coeurl partner, Raja, when he was much younger.

Behavior

Burning is a very gung-ho and energetic man who has a great passion for adventuring and fighting against the forces of evil. And despite what his demeanor and lack of significant intelligence would belie, he has a very firm grasp over common sense and wisdom moreso than most, nevermind what most would expect. He can easily determine what is truly evil and what is merely misguided and misunderstood, and even goes so far as to openly admit that, despite being chosen as one of Hydaelyn's champions, he shares a deep and profound respect and admiration for the primal Ramuh and would never actively fight him unless absolutely necessary, and even then with a heavy heart.

Burning otherwise takes on any task he sets himself on with an uncommon amount of energy and gusto, often making fire-themed puns. He has even titled many of his own fighting combinations in much the same way (Searing Sidesplitter, Backburner, Widespread Inferno, and Scorching Sunder, to name a few). He has a true affinity and fascination with fire, stopping at nothing to express that side of himself as much as possible.

Combat

General

Burning is a classically trained Pugilist who has since unlocked his chakra and has taken on the mystical abilities of the Monk. However, in order to fully master his martial arts, he is also training in other styles of combat as well, ranging from that of the Gladiator, the Marauder, and the Lancer, so that he may not only have a multitude of styles to choose from for any potential combat situation, but also to mix his fighting styles together, optimizing his own skills as a fighter.

It is true, also, that he wishes to someday also learn how to use magic. Hydaelyn has blessed him with the ability to use magic despite his lack of aptitude in understanding how it actually works, allowing him to use magic almost purely relying on instinct and second nature.

Relationships

Family

Burning's mother and father both work at the Ceruleum Processing Facility. He ran away from home when he was a boy, so he has no idea where they are right now, nor does he care too much. What he does know is that they are probably still alive and still working at that processing facility, and even his disappearance from that reality probably didn't affect them much.

Burning is an only child.

Friends

Burning is formerly of the Free Company known as The Hawks, and had made a few friends during his time there. However, in this new reality that he lives in, he has no friends to speak of. But he's always eager to make some!

Enemies

Burning counts the Ascian known as Lahabrea as well as the Primals Titan, Garuda, and Bahamut amongst his true enemies. Due to a mutual affinity for fire, he views Ifrit more as a rival than a true enemy, but still fights without holding back. Outside of those enemies, there is no one else he truly considers his foe.

History/Timeline

Burning was born in a near-identical parallel universe to this one, to a couple of Ceruleum Processing Plant workers. Living in Northern Thanalan was rough for a Roegadyn kid as there weren't any other kids to really play with, and it was always too dangerous to play even if there were a chance. One day, the young Roegadyn spotted a Coeurl pup on the side of the road, abandoned from its mother. He brought the pup home and begged his parents to let him keep it, to which they begrudgingly agreed after a lot of begging. Burning grew up with this Coeurl Pup and was actually inspired to be so enthusiastic by the energy this pup had. One day, while the now teen Burning and the more mature coeurl, which he named Raja, were fighting, Raja slashed Burning's face with one of its claws. Burning's parents, appalled by this, were about ready to call in an adventurer to slay the coeurl. Even after the particularly nasty and disfiguring injury to his face, he begged his parents again to spare Raja. This time, they didn't listen. Afraid for Raja and angry at his parents for wanting to kill his only friend, he gathered his belongings and rode Raja out to Ul'dah without a word, not telling his parents where he was going.

Three days after he had arrived in Ul'dah, he was starving. His money had run out and both he and Raja were looking for any kind of food to eat. It was then that an old man saw the two and he held his hand out to Burning, guiding him and Raja to the Pugilist's Guild, where they were both brought back up to full strength. The old man, introducing himself as Hamon Holyfist, saw the potential in Burning to be a great fighter, and directed him towards a Lalafell named Momodi over at the Quicksand to become registered as an adventurer.

As time went on, he studied with Hamon and, through Momodi, eventually became introduced to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, and worked under them for a while. It was when he was working alongside one of their veteran members, Thancred, that he first met the primal Ifrit, Lord of the Inferno. Being immune to Ifrit's tempering and throwing the primal off-guard with that, he openly challenged Ifrit to a one-on-one match and somehow managed to succeed. Before Ifrit vanished, he declared that Ifrit would forever be his rival for the title of the true Lord of the Inferno. Burning had no idea what Ifrit's thoughts to that even were, but it was just something else that would continue to drive him to get ever stronger.

In time, he eventually joined a free company known as "The Hawks". Alongside them, he fought his way through Castrum Meridium and defeated the man known as Gaius von Baelsar, which was a huge victory in the name of Eorzea. But with the roars of Bahamut in the distance, he knew that his work was yet to be complete, and he relished that thought with all of his being as he continued training harder and harder for the day that he would come face-to-face with Bahamut himself.

One day, during a training session in Mor Dhona, he was training his martial arts skills on the crystal formations, when out of nowhere, pure darkness enveloped him. He was hovering and he looked around. It was reminiscent of the moments when he communicated with Hydaelyn, but this was different. In this place, there was nothing. He had no idea where he was, but it was cold, dark, and void of life. Being completely shut off from all other life and physical stimuli, he fainted from the shock. He awoke, laying on his back in the same place he was training before. Had it been a dream? He continued on his day until he realized that his Free Company linkshell was eerily silent. He attempted to communicate with the others, only to find that there was no response.

He then wandered all over Eorzea trying to find them. He found many lookalikes, but he never found any of his friends. They were gone. And when he asked about The Hawks, they weren't even listed as a registered Free Company! He even went to his Grand Company headquarters, thinking this was all some elaborate prank, and not only was he no longer a registered Flame Lieutenant, but officers that he had been doing business with for ages didn't even know who he was! He eventually worked hard to re-earn his rank in the Immortal Flames, which was a lot of hard work. Eventually, he crossed paths with a peculiar Miqo'te scholar. Upon conversing with him and telling him his story, the miqo'te surmised that Burning had, in fact, jumped into an identical parallel dimension, which could be related to the circulating rumors of a mysterious woman in outlandish clothing appearing in La Noscea.

Accepting what the miqo'te had said, he surrendered to the fact that he may never see his world again, but regardless, he was still an adventurer and he was still Eorzean. Even if he was fighting for a different Eorzea, it made no difference. He would start again, make new friends, join a new Free Company, and fight evil with a burning passion!
