General Information Chagatai suits well to his name, devoid of much in the way of pigment save about some of his scales and one-or-two hidden patches of skin. He is built for strength, the useful sort. He is very obviously a labourer. ❝ I am not so strange, unless you name me so. ❞ Appearance Eyes Hair Skin Build Voice Pale Grey White White skin, white-and-black scales.. Mesomorphic Bass-Baritone Bearing Laterality Scars Markings Style Relaxed Left Left brow, knuckles, shoulderblades and back-scales Small inked lotus on left wrist Ascetic, Simple Hair & Eyes Shorn, parted on one side, clean. He keeps his hair shorter than the average Au Ra, lacking adornments or coverings. Either eye is faintly drooping, steely grey in colour with a bright, luminescently white limbal ring. Physique & Markings Obvious laborer, lean and broad-shouldered with a tucked waist as is his somatype. Some evidence may be seen of a more violent prior vocation in his arms, hands, legs, and feet where the roughness of skin or cracked scales are obvious. The inked lotus on the underside of his left wrist is simple, facing his palm. Many of the scales on his back feature nicks, or scarring, and several more are starkly white. His palms, fingers, and the soles of his feet are well-calloused. Hygiene & Attire Typically decently clean. May occasionally smell of timber, oils, and animal fats. Personality Psychological Profile Chagatai's default intense expression and quiet nature belie a depth and complexity in his being. Though most will see a looming bouncer, a simple carpenter, or a stern and loving father, those who tempt him out of his quiet know better. He is no simpleton but a clever, capable man with a tongue that weaves words both wicked and warm. Any one person may have a distinctly different impression of him, and at times the opinions vary so wildly it brings to wonder if two have met the same man. Voice With minor rises into tenor uncommon, the bass-baritone of Chagatai's voice is best describe as sonorous, or perhaps modulated, if you prefer. It is rare to be above an unobtrusive volume, but he naturally projects, leading to a strict control over just how loud he is. Even with his build he has little to fear in being dropped unceremoniously into rough surf. Time with the Ejinn fostered a trained lung capacity and complete lack of fear of being submerged. In short, Chagatai is as much at home in the water as he is on land. ● Carving: Though he hardly speaks of it, Chagatai has an eye for creating works both functional and not out of wood. Marquetry, relief-carving, and root-carving are his favored practices. Rarely does he carry his own works with him, however. In structures, he often uses relief-carving or marquetry to make his 'signature' as it were, a lotus in the beak of a slender bird. ● Hand-Language: It should be noted that this refers not only to the Moks' form of communication, but also that which may be used by the deaf and/or mute. Combat Abilities ● Joint-lock: You will likely never witness this. However, Chagatai does possess a certain knowlege of how to temporarily and harmlessly cripple others in the form of joint-locks. He's most proficient in leg and small-joint manipulations. ● Shrug-it-Off: Built for punishment, he doesn't go down easily and often seems entirely unaware of his own wounds. His tenacity to outlast opponents can be both a boon and serious hindrance. OOC Note I prefer to talk it out either during or prior to a fight scene. I am open, fair, and want to give people their time to shine while not compromising the integrity of anyone's character in strength or weakness.

History . Disclaimer: History should typically be an Icly-discovered set of details, but for sake of argument I'll say this: Chagatai is not especially forthcoming about his history. In addition, I am more-than-open about forging potential synchronizations in backstories if you talk it out with me. Sixth Astral Era Childhood Chagatai is a Xaela of the Azim Steppes, and grew up with a song in his throat, and a lie on his tongue. A Qalli born, but a Qalli he was not, his mother and brother taught him the language of hands, and with it he left the songbirds to find his own home elsewhere. Chasing his heels were rumors and supersition. 'Cursed', and 'Curious', and 'Marked' were whispered sbout him for the colourless pallor of his flesh, and the odd white scales that dappled him seemingly without pattern. Seventh Umbral Era Adulthood A single Xaela wandering on his own inspires little in the way of trust, less when his skin is pallid and scales piebald. Chagatai is not one to speak of his wanderings at length, but the few known details are perhaps in the old, kiseru he keeps on his person, the myriad of scars across flesh and scale alike, and his current tribal name. And of course, who could forget, he has a daughter. In Recent Times Moving Forward Thanalan and the Ul'dahn fighting pits served as the first place where Chagatai earned his coin upon arriving in Eorzea. However, the arrangement proved unfavorable for both he and his daughter. Fearing his daughter would be taken into slavery when he wasn't there to protect her, and feeling the ache of his wounds exacerbated by the grueling combat of the arena, they fled the city and Thanalan altogether. Rumors of Gridania and its carpentry guild gave them direction, however briefly. Nowadays they reside in La Noscea, with Chagatai as the acting bouncer for the Siren's Call, headed by a former pit fighter whom the Au Ra respects
