Character

General

Eiai Airi (pronounced /Ey-Aye Aye-Ree/) was born in Dravania, left behind by her Sharlayan parents and raised by their close friend, a dragon named Ahn Ehlk. She lived a secluded life with her dragon family until reaching adulthood, when she was given permission to travel to Gridania and hone her natural talent of conjury. Having lived among the dragons for most of her life, Eiai found herself having trouble with the cultural differences, but was fortunately able to adapt thanks to the companions she had gained through her long journey as a White Mage. She is an extremely proficient healer- not only in terms of physical wounds, but wounds of the heart as well. She wishes to assist as many troubled souls as she can, hoping she can be a sort of shelter for those who seek emotional refuge.

Residence:

She currently resides in Apartment #20 in ward 3 of the Lavender Beds. It's her favorite place to relax, and she can be found there during her downtime. She also has a cafe in The Goblet, situated inside of her Free Company, Equinox.

Appearance

Due to a botched experiment on her own genetics that she foolishly carried out, her appearance has changed drastically. Her hair has changed to a snowy white, her skin is now more pale, and she carries the appearance of a Xaela. No traces of her Raen features are currently present outwardly.

Body
Height 4 Fulm, 9 Ilm
Weight 84 ponze
Build Petite
Skin Tone Very fair / Pale
Tail Long and bluish black, spiked tip
Notable Features: She appears to be pure Xaela, and has two smaller horns alongside larger ones.
Head / Facial Features
Hair Snowy white
Eyes Lavender
Scales Bluish black, shades of lavender

Personality

She seems a bit more on the icey side these days...

Core Points:

  • Playful and a bit of a jokester
  • Not usually shy at all, but can become quite shy in... Special circumstances
  • Pretty forgetful and unreliable about technical information
  • Runs on emotions, highly empathetic
  • Simultaneously motherly and childish
  • Social and loves to chat
  • Mostly optimistic
  • Gets overwhelmed somewhat easily
  • Not easily angry, but when she is... She's... Eerily quiet about it

-Deep down she can be very bitter and dwells on words, but she doesn't like to make this known...

Eiai keeps a relatively cheerful demeanor and can usually be caught in a good mood. Some may say that she is friendly to the point of coming off as flirtatious, but she doesn't mean to come across as such. She just enjoys the company of others and learning about people. She can be seen as childish by many because she has an enthusiasm about her seen mostly in children, rather than your average tired and jaded adult. On the other hand, she is always concerned about people's health and will go out of her way to care for someone who needs it. She never forgets about anyone, and this often brings her sadness due to the nature of life and its tendency to bring her someone important, and then take them away.

Her moral compass can be questionable. She has a strong sense of justice, but she can make reckless assumptions. She usually gives the benefit of the doubt and tries to think of the circumstances that make up a person's actions, but sometimes her emotions will control her more than logic can.

History/Timeline

Childhood

Dragon Child

As she was raised in seclusion by the dragon Ahn Ehlk, Eiai wasn't really aware that she wasn't also a dragon. She was under the impression that she would eventually look just like her family, given time. Her dragon siblings constantly bullied her for being "ugly and slow", leaving a small Eiai to withdraw into herself due to self-hatred. All she could think about was how she couldn't grow wings to join her brothers and sisters in the sky, and spent a lot of her days staring at herself in the clear waters of Dravania, thinking herself the most vile creature... Perhaps even unworthy of existence.

First Friend

After getting separated from her siblings in the Forelands, A 9-year-old Eiai encountered a creature she had never seen before; A small Miqo'te child. Her kneejerk reaction was to make a mad dash away from the strange boy, but her curiosity soon carried her back to where she sighted him, approaching him from behind to give his incredibly soft tail a small tug. The boy was obviously surprised by the sudden pull on his appendage, but it created the opportunity for the two to begin their innocent friendship. She learned that his name was Azlem Riendotte, a 14-year-old from a clan of nomadic Seekers that were passing through the Forelands. The two of them played together in that small clearing, meeting up at the same time each day without fail. Azlem would sometimes return with fresh bruises staining his flesh, which worried the young Auri. However, even when questioned, Azlem remained quiet about his wounds. After a few weeks had passed, their friendship was cut short one day when Azlem never returned to their meeting spot again. Eiai waited and waited, which turned into her desperately searching the entire area for days, unable to find a single trace of her precious first friend. Thinking that he had gotten tired of her and left her without saying a word, Eiai could only remember that she was a creature that wasn't meant to be liked.

Teenage

The Sharlayan Scholars

At age 16, Ahn Ehlk decided it was time for Eiai to learn of her true lineage. Eiai's insecurities and lack of self-worth were hindering her growth greatly, and Ahn Ehlk knew the only way for her to feel proud of who she was would be for her to know of the beautiful couple that Ahn Ehlk cared for, enough to raise their daughter in their place. Enx Ura, her father, was a prodigy among a clan of warrior Xaela. He became a scholar in Sharlayan, where he met Akemi Airi, a beautiful young Raen woman who hailed from a village in Doma. The two scholars were assigned to work together to bring out each other's highest potential, and they indeed did so. They found that they had a similar wish to use their knowledge for the better of the people, and although the Sharlayan's typically refused to involve themselves in political matters of the world, Enx and Akemi both grew restless from their knowledge of the war. They secretly delved into forbidden territory, their combined skill uncovering the truth of the former relationship between dragon and man. Enx and Akemi got married, traveling to Dravania soon after to meet with the dragons who might speak with them, hoping to express their desire for a renewed peace with the dragons. With Akemi now carrying their first child, their desire for a world without war grew ever stronger. The couple's first audience was with a dragon named Ahn Ehlk, who didn't find their story very amusing. She knew all too well the tyranny of man, and had them running around completing various difficult tasks to prove the sincerity of their words. Although she still didn't quite trust them, she felt something could be said of their dedication. She spent some time with the Auri couple, who enthusiastically shared their own knowledge with her, including that of healing magic. Ahn Ehlk couldn't help but find it interesting that creatures like them grasped so tightly onto their incredibly short lives. She herself had a child who was dying, and she could only wait for her to pass as nature dictated. The two Auri wouldn't accept such an end, and used their knowledge and healing prowess to cure the young dragon of her illness. Ever grateful that the two had saved the life of one of her own, Ahn Ehlk pledged her loyalty to them and finally accepted them as her respected friends. Many months later, Akemi safely gave birth to Eiai in Dravania among their dragon companions, and they lived happily together for a short time. As time passed, they grew restless once again, knowing they had to move forward with their plans to steal vital information from Ishgard as the first step towards preventing more bloodshed. They set out for the isolated city-state, leaving Eiai behind with a promise to return once they had been successful. However, fate would have it that they would fail, being caught by the Holy See and executed together in cold blood. Weeks passed, and Ahn Ehlk knew that the lives of her friends had been snuffed out by the wretched hands of man. She mourned them greatly, resolved to raising their daughter as a last show of respect for the loving couple that had impacted her so.

Pride

As Ahn Ehlk thought, teaching Eiai of the people who brought her into this world lit a fire in the child's heart. From that day forth, it was was if she was a completely different person. Along with her knowledge of her exceptional descent, she gained a confidence she never knew she had, and her true outgoing, explosive personality burst forth. She could no longer be bullied by her siblings- in fact, they became her victims instead. They were quite scared of her, due to her dramatic change and sudden demands for respect, but they were also impressed and finally accepting of her as a legitimate member of their brood.

Gridania

When Eiai reached the age of 18, Eiai begged Ahn Ehlk to grant her passage to Gridania so she could become stronger as a healer. She was no longer satisfied with staying at home and healing a small cut here or there, wanting to be involved in the grander scheme of the world and its workings. Ahn Ehlk at first refused because she thought Eiai still much too young, inexperienced, and vulnerable, but remembered that children like her must have a different coming-of-age experience. She agreed after some convincing, but with a warning that she mustn't set foot near Ishgard. Ahn Ehlk disguised herself to accompany her directionally-challenged daughter to Gridania, where Eiai suffered one last long lecture to the effect of being wary of strangers and to never be too trusting of anyone. They said their goodbyes and parted ways, Eiai promising to return home and share her experiences as soon as she could.

Eiai, who had been educated by Ahn Ehlk her entire life, was confident that she would be able to fit in as a regular Eorzean seamlessly. Unfortunately for her, she wasn't aware that Ahn Ehlk was also woefully ignorant of their culture, and Eiai proved herself to be extremely peculiar and blatantly foreign to most people. The master of the Conjurer's Guild was at least understanding of her after hearing her vague explanation that she was not exactly from here, and encouraged her to form friendships so she could get used to how things worked. She ended up being a little too enthusiastic about this task, coming off as obnoxious, embarrassing, and loud, which caused her to be very unpopular and mostly avoided. She felt isolated, which made the confused Auri quiet down significantly. Her homesickness sometimes made her want to give up and return to Dravania, but her determination to be a strong and respectable person that her late birth parents could be proud of motivated her to focus intensely on her healing abilities, and she quickly rose to being a top student. It was then that other people began to notice her skill and praised her, but still, there was yet to be a person who could tolerate her strange behavior. The master of the guild thought she could benefit from being made to assist in teaching, and instructed her to focus on a particular problem student named Reid Paravi, who probably couldn't even heal a small insect. He proved to be an impossible student, but through their personal lessons together, Eiai and Reid ended up getting along better than anyone. They were both considered 'outsiders', and Reid had an appreciation for the "weird", in his words. Thanks to Reid, Eiai no longer felt alone and rejected, spending a lot of time with him outside of the Conjurer's Guild. Being with him, along with simple observation of other people, allowed Eiai to get used to the culture and she began to fit in quite well. She ended up being the sort that can attract a lot of attention wherever she goes, and has been able to make many friends as the years went by.

Family

Ahn Ehlk (NPC, Mother, Alive) (Dragon)

The dragon who raised Eiai in place of her birth parents for 18 summers. She cared for her and protected her as if she were her very own, loving her unconditionally. She taught Eiai that life is precious, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem. Eiai has the utmost respect and love for her in return.

Enx Ura (NPC, Birth Father, Deceased) (Au Ra, Xaela)

A Sharlayan scholar who died in an attempt to stop the war. Eiai never got to meet him, but she inherited his strong will and sense of justice.

Akemi Airi (NPC, Birth Mother, Deceased) (Au Ra, Raen)

Enx Ura's wife, also a Sharlayan scholar who was murdered alongside her husband while they sought to stop the war. Eiai inherited her beauty and her bubbly personality.

Reid Paravi (PC, Brother, Alive) (Miqo'te, Seeker of the Sun)

Eiai and Reid were classmates who were just starting out in the conjurer's guild, though Eiai was already a top disciple that was deemed adept enough to start overseeing other new students in their lessons. Reid, a total newbie at conjury, didn't have a knack for the healing arts at all. No matter what angle she tried to approach it, Eiai wasn't able to inspire any improvement in the older Miqo'te man. In the end, Reid eventually gave up that endeavour as he realized his talents lay in his job as a Bard rather than healing magicks. Eiai had no choice but to agree with that notion. Despite that, the two remained close ever since and think of each other as nothing less than siblings. Reid naturally tends to protect and look out for Eiai in any way he can, and Eiai... Well, she certainly fits the picture of an affectionate little sister towards Reid.

Friends

A'bann Tia (PC, Friend, Alive) (Miqo'te, Seeker of the Sun)

Eiai met this glasses-wearing Miqo'te due to a momentary act of petty selfishness. Down on her luck in terms of financial success, Eiai turned to selling her handmade (rather poor-quality) jewelry. Because nobody else seemed to be selling her specific wares, she set the pricing for almost quadruple the normal selling amount, waiting for the next poor sap who came around to shell out way too much gil on her overpriced merchandise. After a few moments, an incredibly handsome dark-haired Miqo'te in glasses approached and purchased one of her rings, and the Auri immediately felt guilt rise in her stomach. She couldn't bear to see such a beautiful man walk away without knowing he had been scammed, so she quickly stopped him before he left her sight and informed him of her clever little marketboard game. She offered to give him the cheap ring for free as well as his money back, her honesty and generosity taking A'bann by surprise. After a pleasant conversation, the two became fast friends. Eiai loved his reserved and cool demeanor, finding him comfortable to be with and easy to open up to. He was there for her during times that were emotionally difficult for her, including the death of her late husband. He took Eiai to live in his own home, giving her free reign to decorate as if the place belonged to her. A'bann had given her a renewed sense of 'home', his care and encouragment being more than enough to help her through just about anything, and she knew she would never let him go. They have been through all kinds of adventures together, and she plans to continue doing so in the future. Their platonic love for each other is strong, and they often act like lovers jokingly.

Azlem Riendotte (PC, Childhood Friend, Alive) (Miqo'te, Seeker of the Sun)

Azlem was Eiai's very first friend that she met as a child. He was the first person to make her feel wanted, until he disappeared on her one day, causing her an immeasurable amount of grief at the idea that she was coldly rejected. However, as she grew older, she was reunited with him after learning of his kidnapping and unfortunate set of circumstances. She rescued him while assuming a different identity, and she later taught him a little bit about conjury to give him some independence as his own Adventurer. He remained by her side despite his newfound freedom, and she remains very close to him. She doesn't wish for him to know that she was the one who saved him from his fate, wanting him to only have the image of her as a kindhearted healer in his head. Eiai playfully calls him "Azzunyan" and he is often the first person she shares everything with.

Halo'a Sahn (PC, Former Romantic Interest, Alive) (Miqo'te, Keeper of the Moon)

A masked Halo'a caught Eiai's eye while she was people-watching in The Quicksand, approaching him with a terrible joke. She was instantly charmed by the man and thought the nickname he had given her, "Blossom", was quite endearing. As they spent time together, they bonded quickly and came to trust each other greatly as the days went by. Eiai somehow felt she could open up completely to him, despite having not known him for very long. They can often be at odds, being quite opposite to each other in many ways, but Eiai obviously cares very deeply for the Miqo'te. She has since gained strong feelings of affection for him, despite her best efforts to stay away from such feelings. She has become somewhat possessive of him, and often chases after the Keeper when he attempts to distance himself from her. She has also bestowed him with his Dragonspeak name, a symbol of great respect among the dragons.

Battling with herself inwardly for far too long, Eiai eventually succumbed to the temptations of her own experiments and has since abandoned Halo'a, her new appearance masking who she used to be. Feeling as though her former self is now dead, Eiai has complicated feelings in regards to the Keeper. Already having crossed a line she promised to never cross, she doesn't currently plan to see him again.

Kiryie Kaohka (PC, Friend, Alive) (Miqo'te, Keeper of the Moon)

Eiai met Kiryie through Halo'a during their outing at the Grindstone, where a series of questionable events between the three had come to pass. Despite the rather strange first meeting, Eiai often finds herself unable to resist tagteaming with Kiryie to tease Halo'a (much to his dismay), and she easily gets caught up in the girl's michievous nature. They are building an earnest relationship as two females who are clumsy with other females themselves- Eiai being especially enthusiastic about doing her best to keep Kiryie as a friend. Eiai cherishes the keepsake that Kiryie had given her as a token of their budding friendship- even carefully crafting it into a necklace that she can keep with her.

Vaye (NPC, Ex-Husband, Deceased) (Au Ra, Xaela)

Vaye was Eiai's first love, a Dark Knight whom she met near the Marauder's Guild in Limsa Lominsa. He seemed to be there with a job to do, but instead took the time to have a playful interaction with the much smaller girl. They kept in contact and grew to be close friends that had a rather agreeable compatibility, both in personality and in the battlefield. After some time passed, the two gained a romantic interest in each other, and they married with the blessings of all of their companions. They had a happy marriage for one month, but unfortunately, Vaye was scheduled to leave to fulfill his duties in war. He had at least fulfilled his wish of giving his wife the happiness he thought she deserved for as long as he could. The day they parted would be the last she ever saw of him.

Neutral/Wary

Emsygr (NPC, ???, Alive) (Dragon in disguise)

Emsygr is a dragon that came from the Churning Mists. He is a bit of a self-proclaimed guardian of many of the beast tribes, but he's very inconspicuous about it so that he is not known or heard of. He is independent of most other dragons and seems to have his own agenda. He appeared in front of Eiai as a feminine and noticeably small male Auri, letting her know he was just there to fulfill a favor for Ahn Ehlk, but didn't specify what it was. She dislikes his disrespectful, elitist attitude towards anyone that is not a dragon, and often feels quite upset by his words. She prefers not to be around him.

Abilities and Skills

Magic

Expert Healing (White Mage): Eiai was naturally talented at healing magicks, having practiced it growing up with the dragons. She would often heal her brothers and sisters who had been injured from traps or from their hunts, so her magic was relatively strong as a child. Training as a White Mage helped her realize her full potential, and she is considered to be quite powerful. She could be even better, would she equip herself with better weapons and armor...
Basic Thaumaturge: She likes to cast the sleep spell on bothersome people sometimes. She'd like to learn Thaumaturgy more so she has a wider range of attack spells.

Melee

Advanced Dark Knight: She took up the mantle of Dark Knight with the intention of carrying out her idea of justice in secret, using the armor to hide her entire body so she has no chance of ruining her important image as a kind healer. She uses her anger as power a bit recklessly, which sometimes physically harms her, but she can usually keep herself from going past her limits and is quite sturdy.
Intermediate Ninja: She has had lessons from A'bann Tia on the art of the ninja, but is pretty clumsy with her mudras and general skills. A'bann is still finding knives stuck in random spots in his house. She shrugs this off.
