General

(Contains some OOC RP info) Eorla (pronounced "Yor-luh") is a traveling healer. She can be found in nearly every part of Eorzea, at any given time. If she is on your friends list, it is safe to assume you have the means to ICly call upon her for aid if needed.

Her player is usually on periodically during the day between 9am and 3pm Eastern time, and some evenings.

Appearance

Eorla has jet black hair and light green eyes that reflect ambient light, giving them a soft glow. She is shorter than most Highlanders. For one who grew up by the sea, her skin is paler than most as well, with only very light freckles here and there. Her features are small and delicate, and at first glance, she seems like she might be the type of person who doesn't belong in the fight against the threats to Eorzea's freedom, but a closer look says otherwise. She carries herself with a quiet serenity, her walk always steady and sure. She usually wears her healer's attire, though by the sea she dresses for the weather.

Personality

Eorla is shy, and takes great pains to ensure that she doesn't inadvertently offend anyone. While she does not consider herself to be beautiful, she knows she isn't 'ugly'...she's more concerned with being liked for her personality anyways. Even though that is her main concern, she is always true to herself. She speaks her mind, even if her voice falters a little because she feels particularly bashful. Her voice gets a little more confident if she's speaking up for someone who has been unjustly wronged. She is kind, almost to a fault, and though her time in Eorzea has jaded her slightly, she still is among the first to jump up and offer assistance when it is needed. Soft-spoken, she is shy at first but opens up once you get to know her. She approaches every aspect of her life with passion and zeal, standing up for those who cannot, and helping anyone she comes across.

History

Background

Eorla Brynn was born in a seaside village, the only child of Olaf (a fisherman) and Atla Brynn. When she was born, her pale green eyes caused her father to think his beloved wife had been unfaithful, until it was discovered that Eorla bore a birthmark identical to one her father also had. She was a tiny child, her paleness and stature leading to her being ostracized by the other villagers. Her own parents were indifferent to their daughter, and Atla was often downright cruel, referring to Eorla as a 'Midlander changeling". The village of her birth was made up of a dozen or so Highlander families, and while the adults were minimally polite, Eorla's peers treated her terribly, leading to Eorla's deep-seated insecurities and low opinion of herself.

When Eorla was 12, her friend Elijah showed up in their village, having fled the invading Garlean army. In his arms, he carried an unconscious, barely alive 11-year-old Renata Lynn, Eorla's cousin. She spent nearly an entire moon trying to save the life of her orphaned cousin, who had lost her mother, father, and baby brother when their home was incinerated by a photon blast. It was during this time that Eorla discovered her knack for healing, and she began to study under a healer from a nearby town.

Six weeks before Eorla's 22nd birthday, Atla Brynn was wounded in a fight. She refused to let her daughter tend to the injury, saying she didn't trust a Midlander changeling to properly treat her. The wound became infected, and by the time Olaf grudgingly allowed his daughter to tend to his wife, it was too late, and Atla died 13 days after sustaining the wound. Olaf blamed Eorla for his wife's death, and in a grief-stricken rage, beat Eorla to within an ilm of her life. He would have killed her had Renata and Elijah not intervened. Elijah restrained Olaf while Renata scooped up her cousin and quickly took her to a Padjal in a neighboring village. Olaf Brynn died of a broken heart two weeks later. Renata stayed by Eorla's side long enough to ensure her well-being, and resumed her journey as a student of arcanima in Limsa Lominsa.

With Elijah and Renata gone, Eorla returned to her village to find she had nothing tying her there any longer. She decided to journey to Eorzea and further her education, though she was unsure of the direction she wished to go. She was torn between studying the black or white arts but, driven by a strong desire to help anyone she meets, chose the path of the conjurer.

Life in Eorzea

A few moons after her arrival in Eorzea, Eorla was relaxing in the Quicksand when she met a Roegadyn named Ezekiel, and a short time later, they became a couple. They were head over heels for one another, and where one went, the other was never far behind. They frequently carried out missions for the Adders together, and one day, their work carried them to the doors of Haukke Manor. The mission was a disaster, with both Eorla and Ezekiel nearly dying, the darkness of the manor infecting the Hyur woman, leaving a shadow on her soul. Ezekiel went nearly insane, torturing himself over Eorla's close call with death and the shadow within her. He distanced himself from her, causing her much pain and anguish. Several suns later, Eorla was pursuing a bounty target in Coerthas. In the middle of a tense battle with a downy aevis when she was hit with a vision. Ezekiel had given over completely to shadows and darkness to gain the power to keep the woman he loved safe. He felt she distracted him from his duty to stand guard over her, and he lifted a prayer to the Twelve, that they would do what he did not have the strength to: sever the bonds that tied him to the healer. Eorla attempted to brush it off as her always doubtful mind, but the pain that slammed into her heart and soul a few moments later proved how real it was...Rhalgr had heeded the call and destroyed their ties. The pain sent Eorla to her knees in front of the dragon's gaping maw. The wyrm roared, and struck, a fang penetrating Eorla's body dead center in her chest. The dragon slammed her up against a rock wall, and Eorla fell unconscious. A passing adventurer rushed to her aid, slaying the dragon. He then carried her to a healer in Camp Dragonhead before returning to his journey.

Eorla awoke a few suns later, the gaping wound on her chest and the broken abyss of her soul serving to remind her that it had all been real. In a fury, she tracked him down, slaying entire tribes of beastmen on her way from the tundra of the Highlands to the deserts of Thanalan, where she confronted a stoic, detached Ezekiel. He coldly told her that she was too light for his darkness, and though Eorla furiously retorted that there are no shadows without the light to make them, he remained impassive. He then utterly confused her by proclaiming his love for her, stating he had done it all to keep her safe. Eorla's pain was hidden by her fury that she'd had no say in the matter, the burning pain of the mark the dragon had left on her further fueling her rage.

After a time, a close friendship developed after Ezekiel was turned into a Mi'qote via an experiment gone awry. When he later married, Eorla was truly happy that he'd found some joy in his life. They remained close friends, but gradually lost contact. Some time later, she found out that he had died...thinking that Eorla was holding him. He'd begged for her forgiveness, Eorla was told. He'd proclaimed that he had never stopped loving her, that he finally understood what she'd said all that time ago, that she had been the only one to ever make his shadows dance in the light of her love, that letting her go was his biggest regret and his gravest mistake.

Eorla snapped, and in an instant, her heart shattered and she became vacant and empty, throwing aside her healer's uniform. It had all been in vain. He'd put her through pain, emotionally, physically. She was infuriated every time she saw her scar, the circle in the center of her chest nearly 5 ilms in diameter a declaration that he'd done it all for nothing, and she'd never had any say in the matter. She became cold, silent, and uncaring. The death of her friend Elijah and the disappearance of another friend, Cai, drove her to spurn even her cousin Renata, whom she unfairly blamed for Elijah's death.

It was an argument between two lovers that brought Eorla back from her internal hell. She managed to mediate the spat, they reunited, and Eorla donned her healer's uniform once more.

A couple of weeks later, Eorla met Astroix Vauroux, and they quickly became lovers, though that has seemingly run its course.

As of late, Eorla has become extremely guarded. While nowhere near the emptiness of her previous deviation from her own normality, she has become very quiet and withdrawn as she moves through various places, content to simply observe life rather than actually participate in it.

"I'm not too familiar with Ul'dah, I live in Gridania...is being in a state of undress a requirement around here or something?" --spoken to a friend (after seeing a group of people clad only in their underclothes) as they relaxed at The Quicksand after a long day of training.

On Eorla's first day in Eorzea, she accidentally sat on the lap of an Elezen in the Carline Canopy. He was NOT happy and didn't hide it either. She now tries to make sure she stands away from everyone, but sometimes people still just pop up out of nowhere right beside her.

Combat

General

Eorla is a member of the Conjurer's Guild and her strengths in combat lie within the boundaries of conjury and healing. She recently began studying under the tutelage of Thubyrgeim at the Arcanist's Guild, and has added the art of the summons to her repertoire. She is still completely useless with a weapon but, deciding to change that, has also taken up bow and arrow in her spare time.

Flaws

Eorla is devastatingly insecure for very valid reasons, though she doesn't discuss those reasons with just anyone. She is always afraid she isn't doing/being enough, and is held back by fear that her efforts will either fail, or hinder those whom she is trying to assist.

She is prone to melancholy and too much introspection. Her shyness makes it hard for her to approach anyone, something she does only when absolutely necessary. While she has a slight natural knack for magic, she is completely useless with a physical weapon. She learned to navigate by the stars, so she gets lost rather easily in places where the heavens cannot be seen clearly.

Eorla does not talk much of her parents, as they were only loving towards each other, and not the daughter they were ashamed of.

Eorla's father, Olaf.

• Father: Olaf Brynn, deceased. Olaf was definitely the kinder of Eorla's parents, and while he was never openly warm to his only child, he demonstrated a concern for her well-being on a few occasions. However, when Eorla was born, her pale green eyes gave Olaf cause to think Atla had been unfaithful, though the small birthmark on her lower back, identical to one Olaf had, erased any suspicion, even when it became clear that Eorla would be short and pale. Two weeks after his beloved wife died, Olaf passed away as well, and it was said he died of a broken heart.

Eorla's mother, Atla.

• Mother: Atla Brynn, deceased. Atla was a cold, hard woman to everyone around her except for her husband, and she never cared much to be a mother to her daughter, choosing instead to focus any maternal affection on her niece, the daughter of her sister, Sif. Even then, it was sporadic, and it was Eorla who tended to her cousin's injuries and became a mother figure to her. When Atla sustained an injury in a fight, she refused to allow her daughter to tend to the wound, saying she'd not let herself be treated by a "Midlander changeling". The wound became infected, and by the time Olaf allowed his daughter to treat his wife, it was too late, and despite Eorla's best efforts to save her mother, Atla soon died from her injury.

Eorla's cousin, Renata

• Cousin: Renata Lynn, summoner. It was Eorla who saved Renata's life when Elijah brought the wounded girl to her, and Renata returned the favor, carrying Eorla to a Padjal in a nearby village when Olaf beat Eorla severely after Atla died. The cousins are extremely close, and frequently write to one another.

Friends

• Ezekiel Battuuk, deceased - Eorla's first relationship. They have parted ways but remained on friendly terms, losing contact some time before his death.
• Emelc Vrand - Eorla met Em at the Quicksand in Ul'dah when she had just begun her journey. They cross paths very rarely, but when they do, they greet as old friends and always have a kind word if needed.
• Zy'dala Shen - Met one night while angry at the world shortly after the disastrous end of her first relationship, Eorla always has a kind word and supportive ear for the young Mi'qote.
• Elijah Levesque, deceased - While her cousin may have been convinced Elijah was in love with Eorla, Yor has always viewed the Highlander as a big brother to her.
• Caisus Fortescue missing, presumed dead - A colleague of Elijah's and an avid researcher of Eorzea's lost civilizations, Caisus and Eorla met when Elijah asked Cai to deliver an Allagan choker to his 'little sister'. Her friend has gone missing and she assumes he is dead.
• Astroix Vauroux - Eorla considered herself rather lucky to call the devastatingly handsome, charming Elezen her lover, and was fiercely loyal to him. However, it seems to have died as quickly as it happened, and while she is still her same old self, it is hidden beneath a wall of quiet detachedness.

Acquaintances

Eorla has many acquaintances, most of whom count themselves as scoundrels, rogues, and whores, and Eorla truly believes that the roughest of exteriors often hides the kindest of hearts because of this group of people.
