Ferathir "Dawnbreaker" Lauhafiere (Commonly known as Ferathir, Ferathir Dawnbreaker or Dawnbreaker) appears to be a Mid-lander Hyur whom was born in Ishgard. Much remains unknown about his life, possibly due to the fact that he seldom speaks of it. Seeking wealth, fame, power and just a different life all-together, Ferathir left his homeland to pursue becoming a Gladiator in the pits of Ul'dah. However, before arriving to the city, he had a sudden change of heart as he continued to hear about the amazing tales many travelers had about adventurers. Driven by a new cause and goal, Ferathir aimed to become a member of the Adventurer's guild instead of fighting in the pits. But he would not forsake the idea of being a Gladiator, as he already specialized in using a sword and shield as weapons of choice. He would often train with the gladiators of Ul'dah to further his skill. Eventually, upon reaching enough notoriety in the city, he was given the opportunity to become a free Paladin. The power to protect those he cared for and the childhood dream of becoming a knight now close to becoming fulfilled, he gladly accepted. It was not long before he was adorned with the armor of the sultansworn, but with the freedom of an adventurer.

Character Details

Height: 5 fulms, 10 ilms

Weight: 159 ponz

Body Features: Ferathir is larger and taller than the average midlander, perhaps due to being fathered by a Wildwood Elezen. However, he appears to bear mostly the Hyurian traits from his mother. His body is covered in well-toned, healthy muscles. There are no scars of any sort or blemishes anywhere across his body, which in this day and age is incredibly rare. It could be due to the constant protection of the heavy armor he usually wears.

Facial Features: Ferathir has a very soft face with sometimes intense eyebrows. His head is adorned by two jade-green eyes which compliment his hair color very well.

Hair & Style: Ferathir has golden blonde hair which is often fairly unkept. Were it not for his Gallant Coronet he usually dons, it would likely fall over his face and cover his eyes, hindering his sight.

Complexion: Ferathir's complexion is light, despite the fact that he spends a lot of his time adventuring and roaming the land. This may be due to the fact that his body, including his face, is usually covered from head to toe in plated armor.

Attire & Fashion: Ferathir is not known to wear casual clothes very often. But he is rather fond of his adventuring attire that he owns and sometimes wears that instead of his usual Sultansworn armor. Regardless of what he wears, however, the coronet that was given to him upon becoming a free paladin is not far from his person. For to him, it symbolizes all his hard work and ideals having paid off.

Personality & Psychology

General Demeanor: Ferathir is incredibly passionate about pretty much everything that he does. He pours his heart and soul into everything that he is involved with. Whether it be his job as a Paladin, any of the crafts he may pick up, a job, his friends, love life and family. Everything he does he does at full capacity with fervent resolve. Unfortunately, it is also his great passions which provide for his weakness. Sometimes the fires of passion can burn too brightly and change a person for the worse...

Habits: Ferathir is known to cross his arms when he is upset. He also does a very poor job at masking his emotions with his facial expressions, often giving away what it is he is feeling with them-- like an open book, although lately it seems he has gotten better about keeping his emotions unknown to those around him.

Intellect: Ferathir is incredibly intelligent, despite the fact he can often be oblivious to many a thing. His speech is an example of this, for he does not often use abbreviations, slurs, accents or certain dialects that would otherwise be difficult or challenging to understand. His mannerisms are no different. He carries himself the way he wants to be perceived-- Respectfully.

Combat

Ferathir is an expert at fighting with a sword and shield. He is swift with his strikes, and even quicker at shielding others from harm. While he won't admit it, he fights better when he has someone to protect. He is currently striving on mastering other disciplines of combat so that he may become a master of war against the forces that he opposes.

Currently versed in the arts of:

  • Sword and Shield - (PLD, GLD) - Master
  • Greatsword - (DRK) - Apprentice
  • Greatstaff and Wands - (CNJ) - Apprentice
  • Daggers and One-hand Swords - (NIN) - Expert

"Dawnbreaker"

A huge misconception about Ferathir's name is the difference between his known alias and his surname. "The Dawnbreaker" is a battle alias that was born from Ferathir's mastery over the blade-- specifically the way he would use the reflection of light upon his blade against his opponents (Flash), seemingly appearing as the breaking of dawn, blinding his foes... Hence "Dawnbreaker." This alias changed several times, however, shortening more and more each time. Instead of "Ferathir the Dawnbreaker" it ultimately became "Ferathir Dawnbreaker." Something that he soon adopted and never corrected. This is perhaps due to the fact that Ferathir has always been secretive about his past and family, whether it is from shame or disdain, not many know.

The Oathsworn Vigil

The Oathsworn Vigil is a free company led by Ferathir Dawnbreaker. It was formed when both he and V'ieh Vhessi recited the First Oath to one another, unofficially forming the Vigil. It wasn't until some time after Minako Obinata joined the Vigil that the Oathsworn Vigil took the full form of a free company. As of recently, there are two sides to this free company; Brother/Sisterhood and a Business.

The known side; Oathsworn Solutions:

The Oathsworn Vigil specializes in many different business fields; Transportation, Protection and the Procuring or Creation of certain items just to list a few of the services it provides as a free company. Ferathir himself is a master crafter and usually handles most of the business operations that come through the company's door. Recently the company has been expanding its airship fleet in hopes of providing even more goods and services for current and future clients. Ferathir has recently begun to seek more people to employ as well as more clients. The ranks for Oathsworn Solution members are;
Retainer: The core rank for individuals who are a part of the Oathsworn Solutions team. These individuals are contracted by the Oathsworn Vigil to carry out several jobs and tasks for the company. Contracts for each retainer vary greatly, as well as the method of payment. Some may take ventures, others seek to have a manner of sponsorship, while others have a sum of Gil as their interest.
Chief Engineer: The Chief Engineer is in charge of overseeing the Airship Fleet under the command of the Oathsworn Vigil. They also manage other large-scale projects for the company, usually revolving around crafting and engineering. Their primary purpose is to build, repair, maintain, deploy airships and collect the spoils brought back from said ships on behalf of the company. Similar to retainers, the contracts that bind these individuals vary. However, unlike retainers, only one Chief Engineer is appointed at any time.
Ferathir makes it well known that assassins and murderers will not be welcomed into his company. Furthermore, clients seeking such services will be met with a ruthless and swift removal from the Oathsworn premises.

The more secretive side; The Oath:

The Oath

"I swear onto thee my unwavering loyalty, that you might not experience solitude anymore. I swear onto thee my wrath to those who would harm you. I swear onto thee an Oath that transcends all bonds; an eternal Vigil so that none may overtake you. I will be your friend... your brother... your father... your son... your husband. I will be your sword and your shield. Now and always." - Ferathir Dawnbreaker

Under special circumstances certain individuals can be approached by Ferathir or any other Oathsworn and be inducted into what is known as "The Oath." Once an Oathsworn, these sworn brothers and sisters live for one another. Helping each other overcome any hardship any one of them may face. Fame, Glory and Fortune are all well and good... But to the Oathsworn Vigil all of these things mean nothing next to the well being of their sworn brothers and sisters. Swearing an oath to one person (or accepting the oath from one person) means you swear to all current Oathsworn. Ferathir takes the Oath very seriously and will not offer it to just anyone. Reciting the oath is the ultimate form of love, care and respect he can ever show to a person, even if they don't perceive it as such or understand it right away. Taking the oath or reciting the oath and dishonoring it is the greatest insult there is for any who is an Oathsworn. The ranks for those under the Oath are;
Pledge: Most individuals who are unsure about the Oath in its entirety (or individuals those under the Oath are unsure about but wish to learn more about) are given the opportunity to recite a custom pledge. The pledge symbolizes the desire to work with the Oathsworn until the day comes in which they fully comprehend and/or accept the ideals behind the Oath and being an Oathsworn.
Oathsworn: Those who show commitment, loyalty, trust and desire to explore and live the way of the Oath are given the opportunity to recite what is known as "The Oath." Once recited, these individuals become known as "Oathsworn" and may be referred to as Oathbrother or Oathsister respectively by other Oathsworn. To an Oathsworn, there is no greater joy and honor than to love, assist and grow with other fellow Oathsworn. These individuals value the growth of the Oath above all else, including the business aspect of it.
Oathseeker: After a great deal of time, commitment and effort, select individuals may be approached by another Oathseeker and be presented with the possibility of becoming an Oathseeker themselves. While it is unclear of what it means to be an Oathseeker, it is safe to assume that these individuals are the very core of the Oathsworn. They oversee all aspects of the Vigil and pursue fervently for ways to help it grow, even if it is at their own expense. Only two individuals, aside from Ferathir himself, have attained the rank of "Oathseeker."
Oathbreaker: An individual who has forsaken the Oath or has somehow brought dishonor to the company by some manner of wrong-doing. These individuals are the pariah of the Vigil and once branded as such are shunned by the company, albeit not openly. V'ieh Vhessi was the only Oathbreaker to date, but has since mended her Oath.

The Hunter's Mark

It is not well known that Ferathir is in fact the leader of the Hunting group known as "The Hunter's Mark." This group serves only one purpose, to locate and eliminate threats deemed as such by the Grand Companies of Eorzea. Because rewards for the bounties are given by the Grand Companies themselves, Ferathir does not dispense payment of any kind to its members. The organization and networking provided by the Hunter's Mark is sufficient payment. Upon joining, all members are handed a linkpearl as well as several spares to freely distribute accordingly, allowing for the Hunting network to expand further. Anything beyond the scope of Hunts which are sanctioned by the Grand Companies he considers to be murder and does not condone the actions of vigilantes or assassins.

Character Relations

Please note: This is a list of characters that is dynamic and changes by having interactions with Ferathir. If a character's name is not listed here, it is likely because they did not have an impact on him.
Romantic Interest     Sexual Desire     Platonic Love
Good Standing     Neutral Standing     Poor Standing

V'ieh Vhessi

Standing: Platonic Love, Good Standing

"She has returned to the Oath, and I wouldn't be happier." - Ferathir

Ferathir met V'ieh during his mindless travels across the Thanalan deserts after losing his first love, Alathariel. He found her, beaten, battered and on the brink of death. It was the memory of his childhood friend Mikomi Megami and the voice of his now deceased lover, Alathariel, that prompted him to pick up the battered Miqo'te and nurse her back to health. Eventually he learned that the attack she survived was issued by her village's Nuhn, after she bruised his ego in some manner or form. He taught her self defense and shared moments that eventually led to the formation of the First Oath, subsequently creating the Oathsworn Vigil.

The two have had their share of history, both good and bad. Despite their differences, however, Ferathir has come to love this Miqo'te fiercely and is very protective of her. There was a brief period of time in which V'ieh forsook her Oath but has since then re-recited her Oath to Ferathir and returned to the ranks of the Oathsworn.

Fleeting Dawn

Standing: Good Standing

"That woman really lives up to her name..." - Ferathir

An awkward meeting that soon blossomed into a solid friendship, and perhaps even a bit of a romantic interest. This character is such a polar opposite of Ferathir, that often times Ferathir secretly finds himself a bit upset or annoyed with Fleeting Dawn (although he will always deny it.) Nevertheless, he has grown to care for her very much in their short friendship and is ever so concerned with her well-being. While he doesn't know much about her past personally, he is keen enough to perceive that there is much more than meets the eye to this Roegadyn who would laugh away at life's hardships.

Ferathir has not seen nor heard much from Fleeting Dawn lately. But he knows that, somewhere in Eorzea, that Roegadyn is out there starting trouble and laughing her life away.

Minako Obinata

Standing: Romantic Interest, Sexual Desire, Good Standing

"All that remains... and all that I need." - Ferathir

Ferathir's first encounter with Minako was a comical one. He encountered her while running an errand at the Bonfire in Thanalan. She thought him to be royalty, and it took everything for him to explain to her that he was nothing more than an adventurer. She was working (and possibly struggling) with her leatherworking craft. Looking to mutually benefit from the situation, Ferathir offered Minako work; to craft basic seat cushions which would be used for furnishing his Free Company's future home. However, after speaking briefly, he could tell that there was more to this Auri than meets the eye. He could also tell she was all alone... and he knew well enough the pains of solitude. Because of that Ferathir introduced her to a basic Oath and brought her into the Vigil. Since her pledge, Ferathir and Minako have grown considerably closer as they have slowly gotten to know each other over time. Their dynamic is quite good and Ferathir finds himself enjoying her company quite often...

Ferathir and Minako continue their Oath to each other as both lovers and Oathsworn, even if time and circumstances have kept them apart for some time now. Nevertheless, he loves her fiercely, and Twelve have mercy to any who would dare ruin even a single strand of hair upon her head, for he will not.

Thata'wo Kaatapoh

Standing: Platonic Love, Good Standing

"Thata'wo, clench your jaw." - Ferathir

Ferathir met Thata'wo during one of his visits to the Gold Saucer, while accompanied by V'ieh and Minako. Originally mistaken as the one responsible for burning V'ieh's village to the ground, Thata'wo faced certain death had it not been for Ferathir's interference in an altercation that took place between him and V'ieh. However, despite saving his life, Ferathir wasn't exactly fond of Thata'wo at first. Often times, Ferathir considered him an annoyance, and rightfully so. It is unknown what Thata'wo was doing during the time the Oathsworn dispersed for several months, however, he was there when Ferathir was introducing Minako to the new house they had acquired. By this time, after realizing that even Oathsworn could be the reason for great grief and disappointment, Ferathir was a lot more lenient with Thata'wo and even offered him housing after it became obvious Thata'wo had nowhere to go.

Thata'wo has steadily won a place in Ferathir's heart as Oathsworn, even if Thata'wo himself has refused the Oath at every turn. Through his actions, Thata'wo has earned the respect of Ferathir and continues to do so every day with his odd, yet unyielding loyalty.

Miriella Srilanka

Standing: Neutral Standing

"You talk too much." - Ferathir

Ferathir met Miriella when V'ieh brought her in under a pledge to the Vigil. Ferathir was never too fond of her on a personal level at first, mainly due to the circumstances of her initiation. V'ieh promised Miriella a date... or two, in exchange for her pledging to the Vigil. However, he was also not fond of the girl's disregard over her words, who constantly questioned every single motive and action done by Ferathir and even belittled the Oath. Regardless of this, Ferathir did open up to Miriella, even if briefly. This, however, was short lived. Miriella's pledge was renounced by Minako after V'ieh found herself struggling with the situation she orchestrated involving Miriella. While Ferathir did not like the circumstances of the situation, he never harbored ill-will towards Miriella and hoped that V'ieh had learned a valuable lesson from the entire ordeal.

Since her departure, Ferathir has neither seen nor heard from Miriella. On rare occasions he will get curious and wonder what she could possibly be up to today.

Yari no Suna

Standing: Good Standing

"She's different... but she'll be great." - Ferathir

Ferathir's first encounter with Suna was, at best, strange. She appeared out of nowhere, darting through the main hall of his Free Company home, only to be found in the home's bathing area 'fixing' the hot tub. After some awkwardness, pleasantries and exchanged words the two decided upon Suna becoming a consulting engineer for the Oathsworn Vigil, since she was already a part of another Free Company. Ferathir was incredibly excited at all the possibilities that may come from his partnership with Suna and hopes that theirs will be a prosperous one.

With the Oathsworn's fleet fully functioning and now exploring the Sea of Clouds, Suna's presence has become a rarity in the premises of the abode. Ferathir assumes that she is likely off somewhere helping others with her expertise in airships.

Mikomi Megami

Standing: Platonic Love, Good Standing

"My dearest of friends returns to me!" - Ferathir

Mikomi is Ferathir's childhood friend, whom he met long before Ishgard closed off its gates to the other city-states and went into isolation. Ferathir has never really spoken much about her, but he seems to be fiercely protective of her. It is clear that "Mikomi Megami" is not her real name, but rather an alias and it is safe to assume that Ferathir likely knows more about this gorgeous Miqo'te more than anyone else alive, including her real name. Mikomi was Ferathir's first exposure to the Miqo'te race and it is because of the reminder of his dear childhood friend that Ferathir saved V'ieh Vhessi during his mindless travels in the Sagolii Desert.

"Asha" of the Kha

Standing: Standing: Neutral Standing

"First time I've met a Xaela personally... Yet, not what I would've expected..." - Ferathir

Ferathir met "Asha" when he was invited by V'ieh Vhessi to go to her bar-night event in the home of the Free Company she belongs to. She presented herself to be a rather polite and seemingly gentle Xaela, though that was quickly proven to be complicatedly different from reality once he saw how she interacted with Thata'wo, one of his closer friends. The two seemed to bicker quite a bit and it was evident that she didn't have the highest of regards for Thata'wo. Nevertheless, she was pleasant towards Ferathir throughout the night and he did quite enjoy that. Ferathir did find himself feeling conflicted, as even he mentioned that under normal circumstances he would not socialize heavily with people outside of his "circle."

He thought it odd that this Au Ra of Xaela heritage housed traits very uncommon to the known Xaela tribes. Blue eyes, pale skin. Beautiful, surely, but very different. Then again, he didn't pay much thought beyond that as he didn't know of many Xaela to begin with. Ferathir's encounter with her was yet another milestone for him and hopes to have more interactions with her in a near future, provided they are as pleasant as the first.

R'anael Lea

Ferathir met R'anael when he hired her as a retainer from the retainer vocate. T'was then that their friendship began. While incredibly reluctant at first, R'anael found herself warming up to the Hyur and eventually admiring him. Though he kept much to himself, his achievements inspired her to begin an adventuring career of her own. She still works for Ferathir from time to time, but she no longer accepts ventures from him. R'anael's spunky, happy-go-lucky nature reminds Ferathir of his little sister and as such treats her as he would his own kin.
