The Black family had lived in Vesper Bay for as long as anyone cared to remember, scraping together a meager living through backbreaking work. As the first of five children, Flora always felt a sense of responsibility for her siblings. She took strongly after her mother, Lisa, and imitated her outgoing and brash demeanor. Although they were born into poverty, the Black children were happy with their upbringing. They were blissfully unaware of the world around them and spent their golden days along the shore.
Nothing could stay the same forever, and Flora's nostalgic memories of her childhood were tainted by the Calamity. The great disaster deprived her father, Eddie, of his livelihood and forced the family to take refuge in Ul'dah. Without any gil to his name, Eddie couldn't possibly pay off his exorbitant debts. Displeased with this, Eddie's loan shark decided it was time to collect the debt. The Blacks were forced into serving their debt-holder, a wealthy businessman by the name of Jojoriku Lalamena.
Flora and her younger brothers were forced to attend to the Lalamena Estate, working as the family's servants and maids. Unfortunately, Flora was far too arrogant to allow herself to be made into a slave, and disobeyed the Lalamenas at every turn. Rather than discipline her, Jojoriku opted to have her removed from his estate and enlisted into a gladiator school as punishment. She was the oldest and boldest of her siblings, after all. She'd be forced to pay her father's debts on the bloodsands, one way or another.
Lisa had always regaled Flora with tales from her time as a soldier, and the young girl always dreamed of holding a sword. When she finally got the opportunity to wield one, it immediately lost its luster. This wasn't a fantasy and she wasn't the hero, it was relentless training for a blood sport. The gladiator's school drilled technique into her until it became muscle memory, with an emphasis on flashy, crowd-pleasing flourishes. She soon adapted to the regimented lifestyle that her instructors forced onto her, and swordsmanship occupied every waking moment of the day. Flora desperately wanted to survive the bloodsands, and her sole ambition was to win her freedom with her sword.

The Black Parents( ♥♥ )( NPC ) - Mother and Father
Even though her father, Eddie, sunk the family into great debt, Flora never blamed him for their own captivity. As a child, Flora took strongly to her mother, Lisa, who was once a soldier. Lisa was Flora's first mentor, and she still feels a strong compassion for her today. Much of Flora's persona is modeled after her mother's confident and brash demeanor.
The Black Brothers( ♥♥ )( NPC ) - Little Brothers
Out of the five Black children, Flora was the only daughter. As the oldest, she was their 'leader' by default. Today, although their relationship is rocky, Flora feels immensely protective of her younger brothers. Her brothers, from oldest to youngest, are: Marcel, Declan, Ricard, and Oscar.
Jojoriku Lalamena( ♠♠ )( NPC ) - Shylock Debtor
As a child, Flora always suspected that their was something fishy about Jojoriku, a merchant who kept tabs on her father. After the Calamity, when the Black family was forced into indentured servitude, she grew to hate him. Jojoriku later forced Flora to fight on the bloodsands to pay her family's debt, and Flora's hate bloomed into animosity. Today, Flora would gladly poke a hole through his lung if she thought she could get away with it.
The Ul'dah Coliseum( ♠ )( LOC ) - Spectator Blood Sport
Flora's relationship with the bloodsands is complex in her mind. She once stood the sands as a gladiator, but refuses to step foot near it today. Deep down, she feels an immense disgust for the Coliseum, thinking of it as a 'blood sport.' Although the Coliseum molded Flora into the woman she is today, she refuses to ever return to them.
