Revision as of 21:05, 9 February 2018

To say that this character is a "work in progress" would be a massive understatement. I've yet to really be able to fully develop Garre as a character as of yet but fully intend on doing so in the immediate future. What you see on this page will be altered or scrapped entirely as I get more into the character.

WARNING: Some content on this page will be mature, but this will be kept to a minimum.

Garre Brenna is a roleplaying character on the Balmung legacy server. All OOC content on this page will be displayed in these yellow-ish boxes.

General Information
Before the Calamity, Garre Brenna was an adventurer with little more to her name than just a few gold pieces, a sword, and an overwhelming sense of wanderlust. Too often had she found herself on hard times, forcing herself into taking several odd jobs and services just to make ends meet. When the Calamity came, she found herself buried in a cave near the city of Ul'dah, desperately clinging to life for several days until rescue crews from the city had found her. As a result of this event, Garre had a revelation that led her to taking up a very lucrative career in treasure and relic hunting. She only saw modest fame and fortune, which was enough to allow her to live comfortably for the time since.
That'll cost you a pretty gil.
Appearance
Hair & Eyes
While Garre might try various different hairstyles, they all share a common theme - black, with her bangs and highlights dyed white or light-gray. She prefers shorter hairstyles that do not reach or go further than her shoulders. Her bangs are usually pushed to the side to allow herself to see. Her eyes are light-brown with no abnormalities.
Physique & Markings
Garre maintains a very lean physique, toned appropriately for one who spends a majority of their time exploring the land, searching for treasure. She doesn't make much of an effort to keep herself pristine, however, with there being several scars along her person. She sports one over the bridge of her nose, and another on her lower-left cheek - which is more recent, and can be seen covered by a make-shift bandage.
Hygiene & Attire
By self-admittance, her hygiene is not a very high priority. She makes an effort to bathe as often as possible, but finds herself diving into various treasure hunts which may ruin her complexion frequently, leaving dirt and grime over her body and attire. She, at least, makes sure that her aroma doesn't reflect her sometimes days-worth of dungeon-dives. In terms of her attire, it is kept as conservative as possible while remaining uniquely-stylized to her taste. A white overcoat drapes over her form, held together at the middle by various belts and toolkits. A wrap, tied around her bosom, does very little to leave much to the imagination; she wears short trousers, barely covering her thighs, which then have straps to her thighboots. Generally she keeps to a majority-white, or majority-black hue theme with her clothing with some red accents.

Personality
Psychological Profile
Garre can never take herself too seriously, having accepted more of a "life is too short" perspective. She is upbeat, positive, and fancies herself humorous most of the time. Even in a serious situation, she may find herself being the first to crack a joke. Many might also mistake her for being a flirt as she's affectionate, but she's not known to have taken many, if any, lovers during her time as an adventurer.
Voice
Garre is most certainly not soft-spoken, often brash and direct when speaking with others - even total strangers. While her dialect was developed when still living with her kinfolk and family in Gridania, her mannerisms had developed more due to her leaving her home behind and traveling to La Noscea. After spending time around the isles, her accent had grown to the familiarity of their inhabitants.
Philosophy & Mannerisms
Her carefree nature has resulted in the development of a more callous, direct, and brash attitude towards others. She isn't one to necessarily beat around the bush - when an opinion comes to her mind, she will speak it loud and clear for all to hear, even information that might be best kept private. Many might mistake her as being a huge flirt, as she is rather affectionate, but it is not known if Garre has ever taken any lovers. That being said, being such a carefree spirit Garre appreciates the more usual vices in life; good grog, warm conversation, and either a man - or a woman - to share a night with, as a way to relieve stress.

Combat Forms & Styles
LRFFXIII Blazefire Saber.png
Garre practices the use of one-handed swords more than anything else, having developed for herself an agile, fleet-footed style of combat. She fights more defensively, using a series of quick parries and counters while essentially "dancing" around her opponent(s). She is known to favor the use of a prototype Garlean gunblade that's unique in design. The weapon itself functions by being able to switch between its combative and non-combative forms with a simple press of a latch. Its design was taken during the raid on Castrum Meridanum during the Seventh Umbral Era and adapted for use by anyone willing to pay for the crafting and training. Garre quickly became proficient in the use of the gunblade.

Besides certain gunpowder carbines, the "Blazefire Saber" is the most advanced tool Garre uses in her varied arsenal and her preferred weapon in combat. However, despite her proficiency with its use, it's never been known for her to have killed anyone with it - indeed, most who have claimed to have fought her mention that she intentionally holds back when fighting, moving to wound and incapacitate rather than slaying her enemies outright - at least, whatever enemies she might have. Curiously, she does not extend this courtesy to everyone.

Over time, she had also learned (though has still not yet developed) the once-lost, forbidden art of Red Magic - the style of aether-use designed to mix the schools of Black and White Magic together to form a deadly combination. Only when necessary does Garre use this novice proficiency to good effect when dealing with an enemy that she could not tackle through her own swordplay; she deftly mixes her agile and quick footwork, and her expert swordplay, along with the use of this magic to augment her fighting style. It should be stressed that while Garre may be considered a very rare Red Mage, she is not familiar enough with the hybrid casting style characterized by Red Mages to be considered an expert.

OOC Note
This player is able to learn and adapt to any style of roleplaying so long as it's simple and easy to learn. RP Combat through the use of dice rolls might be preferred over free-form combat depending on the situation.

History
Being that she is still relatively young, Garre has not experienced much in her life.
Disclaimer: Much of this is privy to change as information regarding lore is discovered over time.
Sixth Astral Era
Childhood
Garre was born as the second daughter of four in a tribe of Keeper Miqo'te in Gridania. Her childhood, however, was not very memorable, easily forgotten after some time away once she'd left when she came of age. She kept in contact with naught but one of her siblings throughout her travels, and spend most of her early years away from home living among the inhabitants of La Noscea. While she wasn't exactly fit for the seas, she hopped on a vessel bound for Thanalan where she figured she'd find riches beyond her wildest imaginings.

Seventh Umbral Era
Adulthood
While she wasn't able to find the fame and fortune she had been looking for, she was able to make a modest living cleaning the tables of the Quicksand. Every now and then she would venture into the more lucrative dealings of the body in order to make ends meat, but eventually found her way into the prospective occupation of mining - figuring that it wouldn't take much. When the Calamity hit, however, Garre was trapped in one of the mines, which had caved in all around her. She struggled to make her way out, but ended up digging too far in to find ancient ruins, with treasures ripe for plundering - a sign that she had graciously taken to mean that she had found her calling.

In Recent Times
Moving Forward
While Garre had still been able to make a modest living out of her treasure and relic hunting, her reputation spread somewhat throughout the city of Ul'dah and her findings had been offered to the city in order to help fund the influx of refugees - with a decent percentage of the cut given back to her. However, with her frequent spelunking, she had crossed ill paths with several other rivals and opposing groups. Her time around Ul'dah, amassing her modest fortune, has also helped her tap into knowledge of the known criminal elements around the city - which she makes use of to perform simple vigilante work in the more destitute parts of the city where the Brass Blades aren't able to assist.

NPC Rumors

Some of these rumors are untrue, speculation, or are greatly exaggerated.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
"Ain't never caught her name, but there ain't many gray-skinned cats dwelling around these walls. I jus' remember hearing about some cat-girl turnin' tricks outside of the Quicksand with skin like hers. Could be anyone, who knows?" — Rumor Monger.
◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"Ah, yes. I remember the name, Garre. Just days after the Calamity, someone by that name made a generous donation in treasures and findings to the city's coffers. They could have made more than enough to join the elite caste of this city, but they only took a modest portion of it." — Ul'dahn Treasury Secretary.
"Heard they found her in one of the mines after the Calamity hit. Figured they'd have been dead after, seeing how scrawny and meek they were, but no - there she were, sitting on a pile o' gold with a huge smile on her face!" — Brass Blade.
◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"Folks 'round these parts of the city share stories about this an' that. One of 'em that sticks out is that of some white-coated cat-lady bobbin' an' weavin' between groups o' thugs an' takin' 'em out without any effort." — Ul'dahn Streetmonger.
"You shut yer mouth. We don't speak about the White Sparrow when folks can hear, might get us into trouble with the wrong people." — Rumormonger.

Location & Probability
Places where the character is very likely to be seen
Ul'dah: More than Likely
General Thanalan Area: Likely
La Noscea: Less than Likely
Affiliations
Most of these aren’t public, and would have to be asked after!
Ul'dah: As a current citizen of Ul'dah, and after having donated a fair portion of her treasure findings, Garre has received moderate prestige among the citizenry of the city; her alter-ego, on the other hand, has generated a light amount of hysteria among the seedier underbelly of Ul'dah.
IC Inventory
The following items are things that this individual carries on their person at all times. These are noted for pickpockets, and those watching her closely. This information is meant to be a prompt for insight and is not to be meta-gamed, though feel free to use this information if it comes up logically in RP (pickpocketing, a search, etc) with use of a simple /tell.

Glio coinpurse.png

Coinpurse: A simple coin purse made of soft leather, containing a few hundred gil.
RP Limits
I like to consider myself a flexible player who is willing to commit to a number of different types of scenes and role-play scenarios, but even I have my limits. If something is on the play list, assume it means yes, as long as it's within the context of the current play or ongoing plot. No's are typically a hard no, and it means don't ask.
I will play generally anything involving common adventuring, or complex storylines that will develop my character on a more fundamental level.
Ask about anything that might involve erotica. Yes, perpetuating the stereotypes of both the server Balmung and of female Miqo'te, this character is available for erotic role-playing (ERP) with certain limitations. Generally speaking it's only done for the sake of developing character story.
I won't play anything that might involve the death or mutilation of my character in any way.
RP Hooks
While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP, unless I'm actively spamming PvE content.
■ Garre is a very prolific treasure hunter known around Ul'dah, though still has a ways to go in order to build up fame and respect. She often finds herself in different situations at convenient (or inconvenient, depending on the outlook) times.

Player Information
Player Note
There is a lot of information on this character wiki, but it is by no means completely comprehensive. There are chunks of backstory that are left intentionally vague so that details can be later added as developed through creative writing or in role-play revelation. Feel free to use Common or Uncommon rumors freely, if you want to use a Rare Rumor as a plot hook or to spark RP, I would ask that you send me a tell first, to make certain it's alright.
Character Lore Adherence
Everything concerning this character that has not been confirmed by in-game lore should be taken with a grain of salt. Anything that has had to be changed because of lore shifting will be noted below.
■ No changes.
Character Concept
Garre is based very loosely on a few character concepts. The first, and foremost, is on the "full-time archaeologist" made popular by the likes of Indiana Jones; Garre's love of treasure hunting often gets her into danger, through which she uses her quick wits and (sometimes) charm to get out of.

Tropes & Explanations
A trope is a convention or device that is often found in creative works. In this case, the tropes below describe my character either in part, or as a whole. Their background, personality, appearance, etc, most of them can be described in the tropes below.
Trope Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés.
