Haila Wetyios

Despite being rather tall among other Xaela women, Haila still is considered to be rather petite when standing beside most races. Both her hyuran and aura counterparts share the same features. Black long hair almost reaching her waist, and mismatched eyes. Her left one is a bright red, while the other seems to be deep blue. If one looks closer, it is clear both of them seem to have a strange inner white ring on her irises. During her days as a hyuran, she seemed to posses two white tattoos underneath each eye. However, upon her change, such marks are gone. Both of her hands show 2nd degree burns over her palms and fingers. The scars reach up almost to her forearm on her left arm.

Born to Wackwrulf Malurie and Hilde Malurie, some of the first refugees fleeing from Ala Mihgo before it fell, Haila was an only daughter to the pair living in extreme poverty in the outskirts of Limsa Lominsa. At the age of three, her sister, Hyola Malurie was abandoned at their doorstep due to being born from a bar wench that her father refused to assist. Despite this, Haila was quite protective of her half sister, and took it upon herself to raise the youngling. Her mother, Hilde, was barely someone to be acknowledged, often following Wackwrulf without a single comment or word and working inside their small house. The father on the other hand, took to drinking Lominsan rums and ales too often to the point that he was just a violent figure with a nasty reputation among the Yellow Jackets he worked alongside of. Having no one to care for her properly, Haila eventually started to turn to small thieveries alongside a now four cycles old Hyola and five cycles old Luma, the son of an old friend from her father. The small merry band, while quite lively everyday, soon dies out as Luma is taken away by his father on the very day of their biggest scheme. Haila sneaks into a military banquet taking place near the port, only to be discovered by authorities due to the lack of a companion to keep watch over her. This causes an outburst from her father, whom nearly threatens to kill his own daughter, only for an elderly man to intervene in the few days after the skirmish. Going by the name of Leofric Wetyios, someone whom saw Haila at the banquet, he takes her away from her family under the excuse that it is too dangerous for a child to be raised there. However, Hyola is never taken in by him due to the fact that she was too young and not as promising in quick learning as her older sister. During the next few years, Haila is raised as one of the many maids to the Wetyios household. Often being asked to keep Leofric company as he teaches her how to read and play chess with him in order to asses the young girl's skills until she is officially adopted as his daughter at the age of 15. By the time she turns 18, she's already been forced into the Maelstrom to continue her adoptive father's legacy of Tactics. And watches from the backlines as Wackwrulf and many other soldiers perish during the fall of Dalamud. The damage done even on the outer areas of Carteneau was devastating, and Haila did not escape unscathed. She was missing for two days after the catastrophic event only to be discovered among a few survivors with partial crystallization due to prolongued exposure to corrupted aether, and a nearly fatal wound to the back of her head. Despite being lucky enough to survive Dalamud herself, the injuries Haila sustains cause her to suffer from severe amnesia. Even going as far as rendering her as just a child that barely knew how to speak or even live. More surprising was the fact that despite the Wetyios family being one that was barely affected by the catastrophe, she was never sought out but rather left to her own account within the Maelstrom. For the next two years, she lived at Camp Bronze Lake, relearning how to function properly as a human being and for the scars that the crystallization left to slowly heal. Once she turned 20 cycles old, Haila took the decision to leave the Camp. Being self aware enough to see that there would be little to no use in her taking up the space that could belong to other soldiers, she set off to settle down in Summerford Farms. Working as an errand girl around the area, her innate curiosity and naivette soon caught the eyes of most of the villagers. A few always watching over the lone lass for she had no family or friends to return to from the looks of it. The military having let her go given how she was deemed not fit to return to duty. Not long after that, the young hyur turned her eyes towards Arcanima however, due to her troubled past and clear signs of still not being fully recovered, she was quickly turned away by the Master of the guild and just given an old grimoire to have her move on. This though, was not enough to make Haila calm down, and a few moons later, she put up what gil was left of her payment from being a tactitian and set off to explore the realm on her own while learning of Arcanima on her own. Departing from La Noscea and doing pretty much any errand or small work needed on the settlements she visits. She soon finds herself in Mor Dhona, near the place where she was first found after the happenings of Dalamud. Working and learning more from the Sons of Saint Coinach for a brief time until her aether sickness forces her to go to Uldah. The parting gift from the recognition of her magical prowess being a small green stone. Coin did eventually give in, and soon Haila found herself living in the Ul'dah refugee camps. Not in the worst of conditions, but still enough to go by just doing small errands just like in the past. Life was not too harsh on her, though a long limbo of her life started. The damage to her head was still easy to notice given her moments of blankness when asked about specific memories of previous suns. And to top things off, she had never fully recovered from the aether sickness she seemed to be growing more sensible towards everyday. Now 23 years old, she was just a woman living by and doing anything to move on. Often being taken advantage of in the worst ways possible. Though her momentums of amnesia being to her advantage to not break her weak mentality at that time. Old connections with Limsa were being built back, while new in Ul'dah with those that shared a similar trade were slowly forged or forgotten for she seldom saw a friendly face more than once. It was during this period, that she started to delve deeper into aetherical studies on her own, slowly picking and collecting any book that she could get her hands into, and even visiting the Ossuary often for research. And while her knowledge did indeed expand despite her constant spur of forgetfullness, her more 'normal' life soon took a turn for the worst. Having taken notice one day of a co-worker nearly getting into a bar fight with a hallucinating man, Haila followed the poor person alongside others until the unimaginable happened. The elezen took his own life before them, and rumors made it clear that a strange drug had been the cause for his strange wordings and visions. She did what she thought was best as a researcher, and promptly took a blood sample before the man's body was taken away by Brass Blades. That turned out to be the worst decision in her entire life. Unable to analyze the sample herself, and fearing of anyone getting their hands on the sample to recreate the drug that destroyed the man's life, she was forced into a life of constant hiding and the adoption of several names. Even going as far as to take on mercenary jobs outside of Ul'dah in order to procure better coin for her schemes, Haila was forced to reassume the same formal manners and personality that she used to have when working for the Maelstrom. Always watchful, nervous and wary of telling other people her name, it was not a surprise that she ended up turning to more complex ways of hiding. Even going as far as to alter her appearances through glamours for short periods of time through the day. A close friend, Ruah'a Bhowsu. Whom met her during her more honest times in the city, eventually found her out, and while she scantly gave him the details, the Keeper agreed to try and help her by taking her to the company he worked for, Nebulous. After striking a deal with the leader, Navei Asue, she was given refuge and a place to hide at, in exchange of working for the company and representing them among the Immortal Flames. The jobs and adventures with the company were many, but Haila was able to live a life with a degree of normality in it. She started to delve more into her own research about allagan technology and aether. While also starting to do more 'undercover' jobs for the Flames in hopes of cleaning her name regarding the rumors about her possessing a drug sample. She had a knack for listening in to things normal officers wouldn't be able to, and was rather good at hiding by then after all. Such line of work though, brought to her one of the greatest changes in her life. Not more than a moon after Navei's disappearance from the company and a search taking the company to a forgotten island to the west of La Noscea, the hyuran caught wind of a strange operation regarding slave trades in the small place. The first refugee boats arriving from Doma were already being spotted in Thanalan's coasts. This of course made the demand for Auri slaves rather great, and had Haila look deeper into it. While she returned from the intel job safe and sound alongside the Nebulous crew, few suns later it was discovered that she had also fallen victim to the dealings of the small island. The people there had developed a concoction that would force other races to change and look like real Au Ra in order to satisfy the demand, and it seemed she had also been given a dose of the strange mix without knowing. The change was hellish, and the medical bay within the Immortal Flames kept her there for about seven to ten suns until everything was all over. By the time she was able to return to her company, Haila looked exactly like a Xaelan woman despite retaining most of her old physical traits. The missions and jobs that came after that started to become more perilous, losing friends was perhaps the hardest thing on her at that moment. And much worse, word finally got out of her whereabouts to the wrong kind of people. In a timely ambush while she was outside of the company, the fake Xaela was injured nearly fatally on the back of her head once more, causing her to go into a coma for a moon. Thanks to her childhood friend, Luma and Navei's efforts to solve part of the research she had left behind, Haila eventually was able to wake up though as a changed person. It didn't help that the then medical bay healer from Nebulous had been rather eager to put her out of her misery when she seldom showed any signs of progress. And thus, her decision was respected to step out of the company in a journey of self discovery. Few suns later, her name was officially cleaned out from any traces about the drug sample rumors, and reports were forged to imply that she had turned in the vial to the Immortal Flames instead of Nebulous vaults forever. By the end of year 0002, she had found herself in Everen Academy, a small place dedicated to the studies of magic that seemed promising enough for her to delve more into her already advanced research about arcanima and allagans. While a different life was enjoyable, Haila did not go through this phase of her life without obstacles and many betrayals of her trust. With Everen's disbandment just three moons after her joining, she soon found herself on a limbo of her own persona, unsure of where to go from then on until returning to Nebulous once more upon hearing of Navei's return and the reformation of the company. The new building for the few FC was bigger than the old one if not more peaceful. And while jobs were less frequent or mostly related to airship projects, Haila enjoyed what she could while raising a few critters along the way. Tragedy though, soon found it's way to their doorstep. Ruah'a, whom had also returned alongside her after a small heartfelt confession, requested for help in the search for his sister, whom he had not seen ever since Haila's early days in Ul'dah. Having small traces of the younger Keeper, she was reluctant at first to comply with it, specially because Rhae's whereabouts were possibly tied to the slave trading group that Haila had previously investigated. After several talks and planning, it was deemed that she was the best to play the role of bait and look around for the missing sister. The plan failed miserably. It was unknown whether they had been found out from the very beginning, or if Haila's fame soon had caught the attention of the traders. But in the skirmish that followed, there was one casualty among the Nebulous group, Ruah'a. While he had survived the attack at first, he perishes few suns after due to the gravity of the injuries he suffered for trying to protect Haila. Devastated, and mentally unstable, she denied his death and drowned herself in work around the Dravanian Hinterlands, where it was rumored that a primal had been sighted. For moons, she tiredlessly worked to monitor the aetherical levels around the area, while cattering to old habits and assuming a different identity to join the recon teams paralell to her research. After many missions and mishaps of her own in trying to fully hide from everyone, Alexius Edmont, her old friend whom had ended up in the same area for the same reasons as her, eventually took Haila in upon her official resignation from Nebulous. Under the guise of a bartender, Haila worked for him while doing research on her own and providing any old information she had gathered from the darkest of lanes in her younger days. Playing the role of a humble person under Thaliak's Embrace, Haila soon grew a small discomfort with the other side of the company, Thaliak's Eye upon the complete dismissal of her work despite it being vital to Alexius's own research. Her mental state almost hit rock bottom as well. A second attempt at wringling any information regarding the drug sample she was supposed to have taking place during one of her visits to Ul'dah upon moving to the Shroud. Khona'to Garanjy, someone whom she had believed that she could trust alongside his companions was the first to give the order for her torture. Once she was on the verge of killing herself, asking for them to do it themselves upon having fake information forced out of her, she was tossed like useless trash on the forest. It fell to her old friend Luma to pick up the pieces of a mentally broken Haila. Even ceasing her work for Thaliak's Embrace as she was shelted by them, another breach on her trust took place upon seeing the very man who nearly destroyed her waltzing inside the building as if nothing had happened. Heart broken from Alexius's decisions, Haila drew the last straw, leaving Thaliak's Eye alongside Sataka, a partner she had met during her time of recovery and Luma, whom now was learning from her about the operation of the devices she worked on in case they were ever needed. Slowly attempting to rebuild her life alongside the Raen and her childhood friend whom visited often to help them. Haila slowly but surely regained the strong temper she had developed through moons of unforeseen events. Her physical condition though, barely improving upon the disappearance of Sataka not but a moon after their engagement. After so many breaches in her trust and being left behind over and over again, Haila was no longer able to look at people the same way. Now 26 cycles old and with Alexander Ambrosiu's help, a cartographer whom she met in the Hinterlands, she was able to afford a place of her own in La Noscea and retired back to her homeland. Taking on the job of a veteran tactician that oversaw the trainee squadrons in the Maelstrom. Despite her constant stubborness and distance at first, Luma, whom had adamantly remained at her side upon seeing her at her worst times, soon became the closest person to Haila. Even going as far as the two being often seen spending different days on each other's houses in the Shroud and La Noscea. The Xaela kept a low profile for quite a long time, keeping to her job of watching the newbies with relative peace until her early retirement by the beginning of year 0004. Not long after that, word spread out regarding the possible operation near Baelsar's Wall. Haila's trainees were all deployed to keep watch near the place while Luma's own family feuds took place at the same time. Haila assumed a more passive role, staying on the sidelines and watching over everything that was unfolding. Though still that not being enough as stress and panic soon forced the woman to give early birth to her first child, hers and Sataka's to be exact. Acknowledging that she was no longer able to participate on any front lines regarding battles or close sightings of primals, she took on the role of a mother instead. Passing on her work to Alexius so that he could continue from where she had left off, and spent the next moons recovering and enjoying life with her newfound family. Soon all the papers she had written through the years regarding advancements in technology and aetherical manipulation became rather famous upon the successful operation on herself to remove a fragment of Dalamud that had remained stuck in her head and causing most of the cognitive disfunctions she suffered. Paralell to that, official records registered a certain marriage to Luma Lee, whom was officially the father of a Raen halfling.
