General Information
Lycelle was born in secret, and for a good reason - she is the daughter of an Ishgardian noble and a heretic. For the Wildwood Elezen, this is still an unknown fact as she was adopted since infancy. Her talents in aetherial arts have inspired her to be a researcher in pursuit of knowledge to use and control it. But just paperwork and working on a desk will not do - her true passions lie in adventure, a wanderer seeking for a purpose in life, and for the thrills in exploration.

Hair & Eyes
Her violet locks are of a natural colour and she is rather vain towards it, often changing her cut and style whenever the mood strikes her. The color is its one constant, although she also indulges in dying them with highlights - yellow at first, and then eventually scarlet. It matches her eyes, an upturned blood red - often dark and unreadable, except for a bright glimmer that sparks whenever she hears of danger. This Elezen is farsighted; She carries purple framed spectacles wherever she goes, only taking them out for reading.
Physique & Markings
As characteristic of Elezen, most Spoken races would find Lycelle to be tall and lithe of built, albeit her height is average or even slightly short among her kin. A focus on mental capabilities has left her slender, although traces of muscle have been starting to form - evidence of her newfound interest in swordplay.
Natural curves and noticeable assets are absent in her physique - rough edges take their place, and thus Lycelle has been fond of jokingly calling herself a stick. With the proper stylings, it would be possible to come off as more androgynous than feminine. Despite being able to present herself with a calm and laid-back air, unplanned and sudden movements lack the elegance one would expect from her race. Sometimes her long limbs would betray her, causing her to trip in uneven terrain or to be prone to being thrown off balance.
Robes conceal most of her scars, most of them being lacerations or burn marks. They are souvenirs either from battle or from botched experiments, and despite them being covered, Lycelle is not ashamed of them - they are proof of her experience, after all. Despite what most would assume, her dragon tattoo has no connection to her lineage - it is something she wears out of mere whimsy, and nothing more.
Hygiene & Attire
Being covered in dirt and blood is a given in her occupation, but she does prefer being clean whenever she could afford to. Feeling refreshed helps her in being productive, after all. Rarely does she use fragrance, although one can find the subtle scents of flowers or tea about her - at least, if she is playing around with herbs rather than with runes. In battle she carries tones of smoke, a testament for her fondness with fire magic.
Cloth is her preference, albeit she does have pieces of armor and leather in case she is expected to be closer to the frontlines. Despite her lack of mobility she prefers feeling light, only with the occasional packs or pouches to carry whatever she needs. Being an adventurer has her prepared for varied environments, and so not only does she have a varied repertoire, most of them have also been magically enchanted to resist extreme elemental exposure.

Personality

LyPersonality.png

Psychological Profile
A carefree attitude and a mild-mannered aura – that is what most would know Lycelle as at first glance. She knows her manners and rules of high society, and despite her lack of fondness in such occasions it helps her hold her own when politeness is required. However, it cannot be mistaken for gentleness, as even in a good mood her stance still tells of power and conviction – this is a woman who is not easily swayed. Lycelle, to strangers, would appear to be dignified and enigmatic.
Her academic background would complement such impressions. Intellectual decisions are important to Lycelle, and in moments of calm she would rarely make choices unfounded by logic. The mage would also take all forms of data into account, making her open and adaptable by most means of change. Objectivity is what she reveals, yet she conceals everything else - she would dance around personal questions and never tell her opinions, leaving most to wonder upon her nature.
Those close to her would be able to answer such questions: she is not as stiff and as elegant as she appears to be. A mischievous character is what they know of her, fond of teasing and poking jests towards her comrades. She has a very macabre sense of humor, even in situations wherein death is a possibility for her and her party.
While accommodating and kind to those to approach her for knowledge, she also gives the impression of a trickster mentor – she would trap them in precarious and difficult situations, leaving them to wonder about their life decisions. Lycelle would claim that they were never in any real danger, and she would never give any promising student a task they cannot complete, but none would miss the twinkle of amusement in her eyes.
Despite of her adherence to logic, Lycelle is both passionate and sentimental. Her methods of relying onto facts is thrown off the window the moment she is in an environment that catches her off guard. Her love for ruins and ancient knowledge makes her excitable, and she becomes hyperfocused in pursuit of it – sometimes at the cost of safety. On the flipside, her anger is something that blinds her. Lycelle in fury gives no thoughts of laws or consequences, and such are twofold when it is as a result of a beloved one ending up in danger. Lycelle is, above all, extremely loyal, and it is this trait that makes her most human.
Voice
Most of the time she speaks clearly and evenly – remnants of numerous orations and reports she held with the Thaumaturges’ Guild, long before she is deemed fit for fieldwork. Her voice is a rich alto in both speech and song, although she doesn’t sing much outside of whimsy and group activities. Having spent her formative years in Mor Dhona and then Ul’dah, she has adopted most of their accent, and her terminology is as verbose as your average Eorzean. Filler words are frequent in her vocabulary, however.
Sometimes she would say outrageous things in a deliberate deadpan tone, just to throw people off. This is one of her many ways to joke around. Her tone and inflections change depending on her mood – when excited, she talks rapidly and in a higher pitch. Conversely her town shifts lower and slower, and sometimes she doesn’t speak at all, in her moments of anger.
Philosophy & Mannerisms
Lycelle believes in truth and the knowledge of it – only by knowing the whole story can a person make the decision that is true to their heart, and such it is important to know as much as one can in such situations. This train of thinking as also made her open-minded, willing to at least lend an ear out to opposing sides before making her choice. And with this comes a belief in freedom, to be capable of being the master of our fates. To her, this is even more important in knowing what is right and what is wrong: such things in her eye are merely subjective things, after all.
And yet, she is inclined to ignore logic regardless. Lycelle care about people moreso than her own ideals, and she is perfectly willing to follow the people she cares about without knowing of the full extent of their actions. On her own, Lycelle isn’t a good person – she doesn’t care enough about morals to be one on her own. Fortunately, she happens to often befriend individuals of pure intention and she truly cares for them. Such friends end up becoming her voices of reason.
Such is her paradox. Logic may be her pursuit in life, but it on its own can hinder her.
This is also the reason why she is an adventurer and not merely a researcher on a desk job – it is because she feels the most alive in the face of certain danger, when she might have to rely on intuition alone. As much as she loves discovering new ideas and exploring new sites, she also likes the moments where she could just shut her brain down, and let her experience decide on what to do.
She abhors a life without change, because she believes that one must always strive to be a better version of themselves in order to truly live – it just happens that her preferred methods often put her life in the line. But the end result is exhilarating, to survive such results prove one’s capabilities and what more they can achieve.
Knowledge and power: these are Lycelle’s ambitions. For her, they are one and the same – in order to obtain a true power one must also know the means to control it, or it is no power at all. This all stems from a traumatic incident in her childhood, where her lack of mastery over a subject has costed the properties of many. From then on she knows that she has already been gifted of a terrible power: she has no choice but to learn how to use it.
Despite of these events, she is not afraid of forbidden spells or of the notion of going too far in search for more power – in fact, she does not believe that any form of magic must be considered to be absolutely forbidden. With the proper preparations and the proper knowledge, even a spell that could wrought the seven hells may be used for the betterment of Eorzea. With this philosophy, she never suppresses her thirst for power, always inching closer towards danger.

Non-Combat Abilities
The Echo: What was once a rare phenomenon has gained rise over the recent years, foretelling of an omen to come. Like many others, Lycelle has come upon a vision of shooting stars, and has afterwards been given her the power of The Echo. With it, she can see visions of another time and place and interact with it as if it is something more than a dream, albeit nothing Lycelle would do can alter its predetermined outcome. She has also been capable of understanding other languages without knowledge of its rules. The translation would come into her mind as if she is simply listening someone speak Eorzean, and would be capable of answering in the same manner. Finally, The Echo makes her immune to any primal's attempt of tempering, allowing her to learn and examine these manifestations with relatively less danger involved. There is no guarantee on when The Echo shall manifest, however, and so Lycelle has little to no control on what it shall reveal to her. Most of her visions so far involve the war between Meracydia and Allag, back in the Third Astral Era.

Camping: Lycelle sometimes goes for days or even weeks without civilisation on sight during on major expeditions. As such, she has learned how to live for long periods of time using nothing but the wilderness around her. This includes basic survival techniques, as well the ability to look for signs in nature, searching for resources they may need. Most of the time she only needs to implement part of this knowledge, as she regardless ensures she is packed for long journeys whenever she sets off. For example, she would bring along materials necessary in order to set up a tent, and thus only in dire situations would she need to construct a shelter from scratch. While some of her methods involve magecraft - especially techniques that can cut off most of her construction time - she has also developed emergency Plan Bs in case a gruelling battle has left all of her mana spent.

Alchemy: An ineptitude in recovery spells has forced Lycelle to find alternatives, and so one of the first disciplines she took on learning is the art of brewing potions and other forms of medicine. Recently she has also began researching medicine that can enhance one's performance in battle - something she has failed spectacularly on her younger years. Furthermore, thanks to her aptitude in the culinary arts, she is also capable of masking the more unpleasant tastes associated with potions while still retaining the effectiveness of its effects. She prefers on using fruity and citrus flavors, believing that the refreshing sensation can invigorate one's senses.

Cooking: Lycelle enjoys good food, and in order to make sure she can enjoy it outside of a restaurant, she has decided to take up the culinary arts herself. This has extended to a habit of cooking for her friends whenever they take a journey together. She doesn't have any particular preference - if it tastes good or if it's something she has never had before, she will try it. Cookbooks are part of her library in her search of trying out every recipe she can come across, as well as identifying each region's cuisine and staples. (Interestingly enough, such research does aid her occupation as an archaeologist.) She specialises in cooking wild game, often experimenting with what ingredients she can come across during her travels. Berries and eggs are also both recurring stars in her meals. While no expert, she regardless has the knowledge on how to clean and prepare them for cooking, as well as being capable enough to keep the leather and other parts intact to be used as crafted material. Thankfully, her skills are also just as effective when it comes to using livestock or cooking in a kitchen. Lycelle is also quite fond of cooking and eating dodo, and has made an effort of trying to try out as many techniques as she can in making such dishes.

Combat Abilities
Trance: A method used by the Allagans in the Third Astral Era. Should a primal's egi form require too much of a summoner's life form in order to manifest, one may choose to instead channel this primal's essence into their own, effectively fusing them with their powers at a time. Having been researching Allag relics for a period of time and having acquired a soulstone of her own, Lycelle is aware of the theory and methods in order to become a summoner of her merit - however, she has yet to witness the felling of a primal outside of Bahamut and thus has no egi of her own. Having been part of the expedition into the Binding Coil, her own image of the dawn wyrm hearkens more to her terrible confrontation in The Burning Heart, rather than the great harbinger of the Seventh Umbral Era. While she has been successful in sinking into the Dreadwyrm Trance, she has yet to fully master it - its burning rage sears hot enough to overtake her mind. While the aether necessary for the trance burns fast enough to be active no longer than a few scant seconds, the moment she regains her senses the time of the trance has already been passed, destruction possibly endangering both friend and foe.

Aetherology: This is Lycelle's passion, as well as area of expertise. Among the individuals she has met in her youth, mages were the ones whose skills fascinated her the most. Both natural talent and gruelling years of work have shaped her to be the powerful caster she is today. Her roots lie in thaumaturgy, from the results of her self study and her beginnings in their guild. She believes that all disciples of magic are worth exploring and that widening a mage's repertoire is both fun and advantageous - thus she has recently taken up arcanima as well. While she is aware of the theory in regards of summoning voidsent, she has no plans of performing a ritual in the near future - scripture dictates too many risks and downsides, and Lycelle would not commence an experiment until she is able to reduce that risk. Her defensive skillset is rather lacking: while conjuring aetheric barriers and enchancement is not outside her capabilities, Lycelle lacks the gift to mend wounds or to heal injuries.

Darkside: Recently, deep in the throes of fury and in fear of losing her companions, Lycelle would unconsciously tap into her inner darkness. Wielding it to her feels no different than using the arcane magics of her livelihood, although the lack of a catalyst means that she can use it with any weapon, albeit at the cost of a steady drain on her aether. The ability is characteristic of a Dark Knight yet she doesn't know such a role exists, let alone be aware that she is walking down a similar path. Right now, she only thinks of it as a newfound branch of magic, and nothing more.

Swordplay: Experience and disaster in adventuring has led her to a rather rude awakening - not all situations can be solved with magic alone. Only then did she decide to explore other avenues in destruction, and the use of blades became her answer. Yet she still has much to go. Her skills still lack refinement - her style relies too much on charging and brute force, and she has little efficiency in blocking and parrying. More berserker than swordswoman, she would need to change her temperament in the battlefield if she would want to improve. She wields a greatsword on her back, defying expectations one would except from her scholarly background.

Setting Things on Fire: Of course she would.

OOC Note
While a bit of a battle nut, Lycelle would not initiate fights outside of adventuring without provacation. If a fight is inevitable however, I would like to discuss lasting outcomes from it if there are any - otherwise, whatever happens is fine with me. I am, however, admittedly inexperienced when it comes to RPing battles so I don't have a style in preference. Tips are very much welcomed! Furthermore, while my character does posses the Echo, I will not use it on a character without explicit permission.

Sixth Astral Era
In Ishgard
✥ Lycelle de Monette was born in secrecy, between a highborn mother and a lowborn father. Her father, Durantain, was the one who kept her - easier it is to hide something in the solitude of the Brume, rather than the noble house of her mother’s. Rivanne de Monette, second eldest in their family, made sure to visit and deliver them any items they may need - from warm stews to blankets to shelter them from the cold. Their affair must be kept secret, lest the scandal tarnish their reputations in Ishgardian society.

✥ An attack at The Pillars was orchestrated - somebody has given the heretics a way into the heart of The Holy See, delivering chaos in their wake. Durantain confessed to Rivanne that he was the spy - he believed that their revolution would be the ones who can bring them the future they wanted for their child. Yet she had no praise to give to him: some of the victims of their attack happened to be her friends. In grief, he abandons wife and child both, drinking dragon’s blood in front of their eyes. In the form of an aevis he flew off to join the horde.

✥ Investigations would follow, and Durantain’s connection shall lead the Knights to Lycelle - this is the possibility that Rivanne feared. Durantain history of consuming dragon blood would also convict their child of heresy. In a desperate attempt, Rivanne sneaks her out into Coerthas Central Highlands, in search of someone who could take Lycelle. Hope comes in a Mi’qote Keeper, who volunteers to take the child as her own. Her name is Rhoe Asta, an adventurer.

In Mor Dhona
✥ Lycelle grew up in a village in Mor Dhona, surrounded by Rhoe’s fellow friends and adventurers. She knew she was adopted off the bat - after all, she is an Elezen raised by a Mi’qote single mother! However, she does not feel unloved - while Rhoe may leave her from time to time because of business, other adventurers come and entertain her bearing trinkets and tales. Rhoe herself showed her love whenever she could, unafraid to teach her much about the world. It is their influence that inspires Lycelle to become an adventurer herself.

✥ Lycelle was ten years old. She undertook her first journey with Rhoe to Gridania, in order to meet the Asta clan for the first time. Hearing her love for knowledge and stories from her mother, they gave Lycelle a tome recording the events of the Fifth Umbral Era. Her interest sparks in the mention of magic, and from then on she decided to start learning the art.

✥ At around noon, as they had a small picnic just outside the Astas’ abode, a bright light filled the sky and a dragon’s chorus reverberated throughout the land. It cames in the direction of Mor Dhona - Lycelle and Rhoe went home as soon as they could, but it was too late. The village, and their own house, were left in ruins amidst a Garlean battleship’s rubble, and the serpentine dragon that lines in the nearby lake.

✥ Later that day Lycelle experienced a strange vision of falling stars. It is in that night where she begans to experience another vision - one that recurs throughout the rest of her life. She dreamt of flying alongside dragons, and a place far south of Eorzea. She thought of it as nothing but a dream, until she encountered the same experience awake - and in it she sees the memories of Rhoe, accepting her in Ishgard’s Gates of Judgement.

Dragon's Blood
✥ Lycelle was thirteen years old. She and Rhoe now live in Camp Revenant’s Toll, but funds were short and this forced Lycelle to accompany her mother in her easier jobs. She has already begun teaching herself thaumaturgy with the help of whatever books she can get her hands on. She also tried to make sense of her visions, but all she managed to figure out is to rule out the known suspects. The dragons in her dream, she concluded, were not those of Dravania.

✥ A request from the Nelhah clan led them to their settlement in The Black Shroud, wherein Rhoe assisted them in a hunt. Lycelle was left in the camp to help out with the more menial tasks. One of those was to strengthen the quality of a load of fire-aspected crystals. It was a simple task, until she realized that she didn’t have enough skill to work on the larger clusters. To enhance her capabilities, she decided to brew a potion of intelligence from a recipe she glanced upon the other day. However, the potion was incorrectly prepared.

✥ The recipe was a potion of Draconic origins, and Lycelle’s concoction used too much dragon blood. Imbued with arcane properties from the potions’ other ingredients, it interacted with the essence in her bloodstream, from both her father and from Ratatoskr. Immediately she transforms into a diresaur - in panic and confusion the dragon blasts fire into the crystals and they explode. Within minutes the location is burned to the ground. Even miles away from Dravania, she would have heard the call of the hoard and she would have joined them - but with the Echo’s protection she has only heard silence. The potion eventually wore off, leaving her back to her natural form.

✥ Everything was in chaos at the hunters’ return. The survivors did not know how the fire come to pass, and out of trauma Lycelle remembers nothing of the incident. Thinking of it a curse, they decided to dismiss Rhoe and Lycelle from their duties, and made them swear never to associate with any members of their clan ever again.

To The Calamity
✥ Lycelle was fifteen years old. Rhoe has deemed her able to start travelling on her own, and so she makes her way to Ul’dah in order to learn more about thaumaturgy. As an adventurer she also had the following goals: to explore and discover ancient ruins and relics, to research and increase her understanding in aether and the ways in manipulating it, and to seek out the truth behind her visions.

✥ For three years she spent her time around Thanalan, levelling up to 50 learning more as a thaumaturge and adventurer both. Work was tedious - levequests took up a good portion of her days, just so she could have the gil and other necessities for her lifestyle. A decent room was her residence, and it was quickly filled up with books and objects of interest.

✥ At the same time Lycelle discovered a fatal weakness - despite any study she may make, she is incompatible towards aetherial techniques in relation to recovery and thus cannot learn or use healing spells. She joined the Alchemist’s Guild such that she could make up for this weakness with the ability to create curatives. With the incident at the village years ago still fresh in her mind, she would not dare to create another faulty potion ever again. At eighteen she learned all that her guildmaster can provide, and so she sets of to wander beyond the reaches of the desert.

✥ Lycelle is twenty years old. Her travels came to an abrupt stop as Dalamud begins its descent towards Eorzea. She has heard of the Grand Company’s call to arms, as well as Louisoix’s guiding hope, but she never became part of the adventurers who would try to prevent Meteor from happening. Instead she assisted in Ul’dah, giving assistance to the Flames and providing help to its residents. In days before the soldiers set out for Carteneau Lycelle bids Rhoe to leave Camp Revenant’s Toll and stay with her abode for now, in fear of what may come to pass. They, too, have participated in the pilgrimage and prayed.

Seventh Umbral & Astral Era
Back To The Road
✥ Rhoe stayed with Lycelle for a while upon learning of the destruction of Camp Revenant’s Toll. Yet Mor Dhona will always be her home, and despite it being ruined twice she decided to make a third one as she assisted in the construction of the new Revenant’s Toll. As the city-states began to mend from the destruction of the Calamity, Lycelle ventured forth once again to continue her adventures.

✥ In La Noscea she picked up a new discipline - that of arcanima, and while she did not gain interest towards it as quickly as thaumaturgy, it found its way into Lycelle’s magical repertoire.

✥ (There were also the professions of cooking and of botany, but these were picked up because of her soft spot towards good food.)

✥ Lycelle is twenty five years old. She is now a fairly seasoned adventurer, having done a lot of spelunking, foe-burning, and sending-friends-towards-precarious-situations in her time. Her research turns towards two civilisations - that of Mhach and that of Allag, as both were known to command tremendous and destructive magical power. She makes fast friends with her new thaumaturgy guildmasters, to the extent that she assists them to save their brother from a voidsent possession. Visions haunt her still, and she has lost all leads of discovering the dragons in her dreams.

RP LIMITS
I like to consider myself a flexible player who is willing to commit to a number of different types of scenes and role-play scenarios, but even I have my limits. If something is on the play list, assume it means yes, as long as it's within the context of the current play or ongoing plot. No's are typically a hard no, and it means don't ask.
I will play .
Ask about .
I won't play .
RP HOOKS
While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP, unless I'm actively spamming PvE content.

PLAYER INFORMATION
Player Note
There is a lot of information on this character wiki, but it is by no means completely comprehensive. There are chunks of backstory that are left intentionally vague so that details can be later added as developed through creative writing or in role-play revelation. Feel free to use Common or Uncommon rumors freely, if you want to use a Rare Rumor as a plot hook or to spark RP, I would ask that you send me a tell first, to make certain it's alright.

Character Lore Adherence
Everything concerning this character that has not been confirmed by in-game lore should be taken with a grain of salt. Anything that has had to be changed because of lore shifting will be noted below.

Tropes & Explanations
A trope is a convention or device that is often found in creative works. In this case, the tropes below describe my character either in part, or as a whole. Their background, personality, appearance, etc, most of them can be described in the tropes below.
Trope Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés.
