Moengeim Fraefyrwyn: a half-blind Roegadyn Sea Wolf with graveled charm and questionable intent.

The Basics

Appearance

At roughly 6’11.5”, Fraefyrwyn stands about 2 ilms taller than the average Roegadyn woman and nearly 4 ilms shorter than the average Roegadyn man.

She, like most Roegadyn, has a solid, muscular frame. However, hers looks more like it’s been built for speed rather than brute strength. Her muscles sit high and tight, coiled like springs, as ready to launch her body across the terrain as they are to hurl a spear at a distant target.

Born beneath the shine of the second moon, Moengeim is thought to bear some resemblance to the governing goddess of that moon: Menphina, the Lover. Nowhere is this more evident than in her physical appearance. Soft curves pair with her athletic build to create a divine figure of sensual strength and grace.

Her eyes, once as dark as the emerald depths of the sea, are now unmatched. Mysterious, pale magical scarring cross her right eye from its inner corner to mid-cheekbone, the bulk of which is poorly concealed by a pair of blocky, pale, traditional Sea Wolf tattoos. The eye itself has been leached of color and can be quite shocking at first glance.

Numerous callouses darken the skin on her hands from years of fishing, manning a ship, wielding spears, and performing various other daily tasks.

Personality

Boisterous, pithy, and with an effusive laugh that can hook the attention of folks near and far; Frae is a gal with an indomitable presence that's tough to miss. She can be characterized as a woman of firsts: the first to crack a joke no matter how inappropriate. The first to say what needs sayin' no matter how uncomfortable. The first the charge into the fray no matter how foolhardy. All the while, a sly smile never far from her lips.

She is loud, headstrong, gregarious, opinionated, and fiercely independent; preferring to feign indifference, or even outright opposition, rather than admit that she's on anyone's team… even if she does quietly aid "team" efforts on the side. She is a constant roamer, never staying in one place for long if she can help it.

And, yet, there's a subtle sense of innocence about her. She trusts far too quickly, easily drawn in and fascinated by the quirks and personalities of others. She can be optimistic to a fault, sometimes approaching unstable situations with too much faith. And, she's prone to an almost childlike excitability that only adds to her instinct to rush ahead.

Above all, Frae is a seeker of truth, stopping at nothing to get it.

Ironic, considering that she hardly ever tells the truth.

• Growing up in Aleport (1548-1556) Show text

1548 - Age 0: Born in Aleport to a Pirate Captain and the fair wife of a Yellowjacket Captain whose beauty was locally renowned. Her birth is a local scandal!

1552 - Age 4: Mother dies, leaving her in the care of her father, who in turn leaves her to the care of barmaids and tavern wenches while he's at sea.

1553 - Age 5: Her half-brother gains a new friend, Ojene, a duskwight woman with whom she forms a rather close relationship. Ojene helps Sylbfohc keep an eye on the kid despite not having formal custody over her.

1554 - Age 6: Her formal caregivers put her to work in the taverns, giving her easy tasks that'll keep her out of their hair.

1556 - Age 8: She begins to notice the tales circulating about Ala Mhigo and Theodorac but has a mind too full of childhood fantasies to dedicate much thought to the topic. She learns spear fishing and daydreams about wild scenarios in which she goes to sea and, in a feat of astonishing skill, slays a vicious sea monster, thus, saving the world!

• Abandoned (1557-1563) Show text

1557 - Age 9: Ojene leaves. Moengeim feels abandoned and lashes out to those closest to her.

1558 - Age 10: Joins her father's crew as a cabin boy (girl). Sylbfohc is not happy but there's nothing he can do about it.

1562 - Age 14: Proves to have quite the knack for carpentry! The crew's on hand naval carpenter starts training her. Also, as war reshapes the crew's trade routes, other members take it upon themselves to teach Moengeim how to do more than just fish with the spear of hers. She begins to learn combat skills.

1563 - Age 15: Is just as beautiful as her mother had been if not moreso. Which is infuriating. She decides to discard the name "Moengeim" in favor of "Frae."

• Reunions (1567-1570) Show text

1567 - Age 19: The sahagin become increasingly aggressive and begin to attack on land and sea. Now skilled enough in battle, and favoring a trident over a spear, she returns inland to work as a hired mercenary in defense of Western La Noscea.

1567 - Age 19: Her half-brother's father, Ostulm, is killed in one of the sahagin attacks and the long-lost Ojene reappears! The reunion is bittersweet.

1570 - Age 22: Ojene's history catches up to her, and by extension Sylb and Frae. In an effort to protect her half-brother, Frae brutally betrays Ojene and drives her away.

• Wartime (1571-1573) Show text

1571 - Age 23: Moves to Limsa Lominsa and makes a living doing odd jobs, mercenary work, and naval carpentry.

1572 - Age 24: THE CALAMITY. She assists the Maelstrom by indirectly supplying them with needed goods for the war.

1573 - Age 25: Adds selling and trading secrets and moving illegal goods to her repertoire of odd jobs.

• Recently (1574-1577) Show text

1575 - Age 27: Father is killed in what appears to be a deal gone wrong. His enemies persue her.

1575 - Age 27 Seeks protection from her half-brother, Sylbfohc (now an honorable Captain in the Maelstrom), who reluctantly agrees. Surprise, surprise. Ojene is there... Things are tense.

1575 - Age 27 Her persuers catch up to her and attack. Sylbfohc interferes before they get a chance to kill her, however she's in critical condition. It takes nearly a year to fully recover.

1577, official current in-game year - Age 29 Now fully recovered, she returns to the life she knew before the attack. Or tries to.

Sylbfohc Ostulmsyn Relation: Half Brother Standing: Complicated/poor Status: Alive Show text When all else in her world is unstable, unpredictable, or unsafe, Sylb has always been Frae's rock: a safe place, a shelter. At 19 years her senior he had been, at times, just as much a father figure to her as he was a brother. But, in recent years, their relationship has taken a bad turn. Frae's dishonesty, manipulative tendencies, and criminal activity became too much for the good Maelstrom Storm Captain to handle. He finally sent her packing, making it clear that she not return until she's cleaned up her act.

Ojene Suinuet Relation: Half brother's lady love Standing: Complicated/poor Status: Alive Show text With the loss of her mother at such a young age, Ojene's arrival in Frae's life was a heavensend. Ojene took the kid under her wing in many ways and little Frae came to see her as a sort of mother figure, latching on quickly. When Ojene left and didn't return, the 9-year-old Frae was devestated. Angry. She felt abandoned and has held that against Ojene ever since. Ojene's periodic reappearance, re-disappearance, reappearance, re-disappearance (and so on) in Sylb's (and by extension, Frae's) life has only complicated her feelings toward Ojene. But what more could she really expect from a Duskwight, after all?

Fraefyr Zirnzoengsyn Relation: Father Standing: Good Status: Deceased Show text A briny, two-faced bastard if there ever was one. Clever and charming with his mercurial words: warm and candied one moment then sharp and cutting like a well-aimed blade the next, all depending on what he wanted or needed in that moment. There was a certain charisma to this pirate captain, a magnetism that few were immune to. Certainly not Frae's mother, wife of a local Yellowjacket Captain. But, even Frae herself couldn't resist her fathers charms. Despite all of his wrongdoings she still thought the man shat gold and walked on the waters.
