Mona’a is small, only 5 fulms and 2 ilms, with a soft baby face that makes him look even younger than he already is. His big blue eyes are very expressive, easily betraying his real feelings no matter how he might try to hide them, and a bright smile is never far from his lips. His black hair with unusual white streaks doesn’t seem to know what it wants to do—lay flat or fly away. He’s not all that concerned about its odd behavior, but his prominent cowlicks are sure to annoy anyone who might try to tame them. His tail is quite long and slightly fuzzy, black with a distinctive white tip, and rarely ever still.
He’s partial to monochrome colors and muted blues, so most of his clothing is either some shade of gray, black, or blue, with the occasional red or yellow accent thrown in for style. He tries to be as stylish as possible while also dressing practically for his night job—thieving—and his day job—adventuring. He never goes anywhere without his daggers on his hips and a weathered grimoire in his bag, though sometimes he switches the weapons out depending on where he’s going and what type of situation he anticipates he’ll be in.

Mona’a is a free spirit who goes whichever way the wind blows in order to help others, hoping all the while his travels will bring him closer to the truth of who he is. An amnesiac who remembers little to nothing of his past, one day Mona’a simply woke just outside a port town to the west of Vylbrand with no memory of how he got there. His only possessions, other than the clothes on his back, were an arcanist’s grimoire and a pair of daggers. After some asking about, he decided to board a ship to Limsa Lominsa. Somehow he remembered his name and his nameday, but trying to remember much else causes him great pain.
He doesn’t know how he knows arcanima or how to wield twin daggers, but he does both very well, and was able to find honest work as an adventurer for hire, doing anything and everything. His greatest talent and passion, however, lies in dishonest work—theft. He doesn’t believe in wanton stealing to sate one’s own greed (though he does love a nice shiny trinket or two) and takes the most pleasure out of stealing for the benefit of others. If you want someone to clear out a dungeon of nasties, take down a buffalo for dinner, exterminate some rodents, or steal back your great-grandmother’s priceless gold necklace you had to pay the debt collectors, then Mona’s your man. No job is too big or small, especially if it helps someone out.
He’s learned the ins and outs of the major city-states, the best escape routes and rooftops and vantage points for spying on marks. As time went on he grew more and more bold, stealing from members of the Syndicate to help refugees and taking back loot stolen by pirates. As his boldness grew, so did his ego, and he began leaving behind calling cards signed “The Black Cat”. This has garnered him a bit of a reputation with the law, The Black Cat’s existence itself just a rumor to the public, and not a very prevalent one. It’s become a point of contention with those who know he exists; stealing is bad, but it’s hard for some to argue what The Black Cat does is bad, when it comes from a place of good.
He’s a bit of an obnoxious show-off sometimes, but this is mostly a front to hide his fear—fear of never finding out who he is, fear of finding out he’s someone truly bad, and fear of loneliness. His severe loneliness makes him seek out attention and affection from others; so far it’s mostly just attention, but should anyone show him affection he would latch on in a heartbeat while denying he’s attached at all. He’s easily embarrassed in this way and doesn’t want to admit how needy he is. He also develops much stronger attachments to men than women, and can be quite the flirt if given the chance.
While the Adventurers’ Guild offers room and board for free, he often ends up sleeping outside, often taking to high places trying to stay out of sight while he’s asleep. This is partially due to the fact he suffers from night terrors, and being outside and up high makes him feel less stifled and confined. He has one recurring nightmare, but the only thing he can remember when he wakes up is another Miqo’te male whose face is in shadow, telling him to run before pushing him off a ledge. Needless to say, these dreams are very unsettling. There are times he avoids sleep as long as possible just to avoid the nightmares. Normally a cheerful kid who loves to smile, lack of sleep makes him extremely temperamental and often puts him in a daze where he can’t do much of anything. Mona’a cherishes a good sleep, but it’s hard sometimes when there’s no guarantee the sleep will be good.
