The Basics

Appearance

Unusually tall for an Elezen at 7’0”, Ojene makes no attempt to hide her stature unless she feels a pressing need to blend in. As a consequence, she cuts a striking figure in most any crowd through physical presence alone- the unmistakeable tone of her skin nonwithstanding.

There is no confusing Ojene for anything but a Duskwight. Her weathered skin is a deep, blueish gray. And her ice blue eyes fix on their subjects with a breathtaking intensity that reveals the intelligence and cunning within. While her face is free of any scars, her body is a different story. A glimpse at her torso, her legs, or even her arms, reveals a pale network of old marks. Most faded, by now, to near-invisibility. But no matter how far she distances herself from the past, they remain. Relics of the woman she once was. Or perhaps, despite what she says, the woman she still is.

Gone are the long mornings and evenings poured into training. With no pressing need to defend herself, an hour or two a day suffices. Even so, her body is strikingly muscular. Broad shoulders and thick arms like hers are not easily hidden, no matter what shirt she chooses to wear. Yet age has begun to whittle down the chiseled slope of her physique. Softening her at the edges, despite her best efforts to keep it at bay.

Even at a glance, she has clearly long since left youth behind. Wrinkles blossom in the corners of her eyes and the slope of her forehead, a small but steadily growing tribute to years of tension and worry. Offset, perhaps, by the fainter but still present laugh lines forming around her mouth. Gray turns her thick black hair at the temples, displayed in-full by her tight but practical hairstyles. Most times, she ties just enough back to keep out of her eyes, leaving the rest hanging down to her shoulders.

She is no conventional beauty, nor could she ever have been. Between her sharp cheekbones, protruding nose, flat chest, and legs a mite too long for her body, she lacks the graceful femininity her Wildwood cousins might prefer. And unless she has occasion to, she doesn’t clothe herself in a visually striking manner, veering instead for sharp, well-tailored practicality.

But no matter how plainly she dresses, she is, without a doubt, memorable. And probably always will be.

PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS

A Bad Hip: Thanks to an extensive injury that nearly left her paralyzed, Ojene's left hip was never quite the same again. Most days, she can walk like nothing ever happened. But on the worst, the pain is so great she can't pull herself out of bed. Because of all the care, physical therapy, and surgeries she's endured over the years, these days are few and far between. But one good solid hit and she's on the floor, and no amount of work or preparation can seem to change that.

Slower Reflexes: While Ojene is certainly not slow by any means, she knows fully well that she isn't as fast as she used to be. Age and bodily wear and tear have taken their toll, rendering her vulnerable to a much faster opponent.

PHYSICAL ADVANTAGES

Strength: In her youth, Ojene's preternatural strength was something of a novelty, rivaling even the strongest of Roegadyn. While lessened use and age have dampened her abilities, she is still more than capable of knocking someone to the ground.

Agility: Despite her dense muscles, Ojene never lacked for flexibility. While today she has to work around her injured hip, acrobatic feats have always been well within reach for her- encouraged by her rigorous daily stretching routine.

(1525-1552) Growing up in the Shroud

1525 - Age 0: Born in the North Shroud in a small Duskwight clan to her two adolescent parents.

1537 - Age 12: Famine hits. With no way to feed everyone, her clan decides to send some of their youth away to related clans. They send Ojene to live with relatives in the East Shroud, but unbeknownst to her family, this new clan is full of bandits. Despite Ojene's pleas to come home, her family can't take her back.

1539 - Age 14: Finally back on their feet, Ojene's clan tries to get their youth back. Feeling abandoned, young Ojene refuses. She focuses on learning how to fight, preparing for the day she has to take care of herself.

1545 - Age 20: At last confident in her own abilities, Ojene sets out on her own, determined to find a way to live life without compromising what she feels is right.

1548 - Age 23: After three long years of struggling to survive in the Shroud, Ojene at last gives up. She adopts a new strategy and shows up on the doorstep of the Gridanian Lancer's Guild. After a struggle, they accept her.

1551 - Age 26: Ojene makes a sworn enemy out of one of her fellow Lancers, Efrault Roiveaux. His wealthy and powerful Wildwood family look for ways to get her kicked out of Gridania.

1552 - Age 27: The Roiveaux succeed in getting Ojene ousted from the Lancer's Guild. She decides to leave the Shroud behind altogether and travels to La Noscea in search of better fortunes.

1552 - Age 27: Late in the year, Ojene arrives in Limsa Lominsa and fights to join up with the most above board mercenary company she can find.

1553 - Age 28: Prospects in Limsa Lominsa turn sour. Ojene follows a lead to a mercenary company in Aleport. There, she meets Sylbfohc Ostulmsyn, a young Yellowjacket, whose influence convinces her to keep trying to make her new life away from the Shroud work. The two of them become sexually, but not romantically, involved. Despite herself, she takes up a role in his family, helping him look after his half-sister Moengeim.

1554 - Age 29: Ojene is finally accepted into her Aleport mercenary company, the Silvercloaks, and she begins to stick around a little more permanently. She and Sylb begin to grow more involved, and she begins to take a more influential role in his family- even though she's not particularly aware of doing it.

1556 - Age 31: She and Sylb officially make their relationship exclusive (even if it had been for all intents and purposes for awhile now). Ojene begins to gain more status and notoriety in the Silvercloaks.

1557 - Age 32: As tales of Theodorac and the plight of Ala Mhigo spread and worsen, Ojene decides to see the tyranny for herself. She leaps on the first job that takes her up that way and leaves La Noscea for what was meant to be just a few weeks.

1557 - Age 32: Ojene arrives in Ala Mhigo. She is quickly taken in by the horrors its citizens face, and she lends her support to the resistance movement. They help the Garleans overthrow Theodorac- but within days they realize the true depths of their folly. Horrified, Ojene writes to Sylb and tells him she won't be back for a while. She joins the fight against the Garleans.

1558 - Age 33: After a year spent in Ala Mhigo, Ojene is asked to join a secret mission into Garlemald. The catch being, it's basically suicide. She writes to Sylb knowing it could be the last time she ever does, and she leaves Ala Mhigo.

1561 - Age 36: Three years into the mission, the Garleans capture Ojene. She's thrown into their prisons and treated with all the due kindness they normally give their prisoners.

1562 - Age 37: After months on and off of torture, Ojene is dragged to the executioner's block. But on the way, she's saved! By some of her old Ala Mhigan co-patriots, no less. Once she's spent some time to recover, she rejoins their struggle.

1563 - Age 38: Assassins begin to target Ojene, but she has no posted bounty. It doesn't make sense to her, but still it happens. After a few, she discovers the Garleans weren't the only ones trying to kill her. Some of the assassins were sent by the Roiveaux family.

1564 - Age 39: A near-fatal attack all but destroys Ojene's left hip (amongst other extensive injuries). Unconscious, she's shipped out of Ala Mhigo and into Thanalan. She spends the next ten months recovering, hidden amongst her rebel friends.

(1564-1575) Ojene on the run

1565 - Age 40: Finally recovered, Ojene decides to figure out why assassins are after her. She returns to the Shroud, in search of a way to prove the Roiveaux's involvement with the Garleans.

1567 - Age 42: After two years of fruitless flailing, Ojene hears about the Sahagin's ruthless assaults- particularly, in Western La Noscea. She breaks off her search and returns, for the first time in a decade, to Aleport, and to the man she hasn't written in nine years.

1570 - Age 45: Sylb and Ojene spend three years together until assassins attack. Knowing she was discovered- and believing Sylb dead- Ojene drags herself back to the Shroud. She finds her old Duskwight clan. They take her in, hiding her while she grieves.

1572 - Age 47: As the conflict with the Garleans ramps up, Ojene finally drags her head out of the sand. She fights to help protect her family. Then the Shroud. Then Eorzea. She joins the Order of the Twin Adders at the Battle of Carteneau. There, in the distance, she catches a glimpse of Sylb - alive! But she convinces herself it wasn't really him.

A few months later, an old friend from her mission into Garlemald shows. Ojene learns the true reason assassins were after her. Her friend relays the new proposed mission into Imperial territory. Ojene decides to track down proof that Sylb is actually dead to calm her mind... and she discovers he isn't. He and Ojene renew their relationship, meeting in secret when they can, as Ojene fights to free herself from the Garleans once and for all.

1575 - Age 50: At last, Ojene gets the Garleans to leave her be!

1575 - Age 50: Ojene comes out of hiding and moves in with Sylb in Limsa Lominsa. As she recovers from her physical ordeal, she tries to figure out how to build a normal life after so many years spent fighting and running.
