General Information
Rance Claire, also known only as Rance, is a male Midlander Hyur from Ul'dah. Raised in an orphanage for the first 12 years of his life, he decided to leave and explore the world. For the following 14 years, he learned many skills and trades, becoming a mercenary, sword-for-hire and free-lancer adventurer. At some point he was even considered as a possible candidate to join the ranks of the Sultansworn, at least until he found their lifestyle to be too rigid. Known for his lust for life, gold, seashell and women, Rance gained a reputation for being loud, selfish and lecherous... Yet, the few that he can call "friends" attest that he has a surprisingly caring and loyal side, willing to even risk his life to aid them if the situation calls for it.
Life is like an everchanging seashell: Beautiful, full of shapes, colors, possibilities and waiting for me to make it mine! Gahahaha!
Appearance
Hair & Eyes
His hair is a mixture of red and brown, perhaps can be called copper. His eyes are of a dark brown hue, often mistaken with black. His eyes are regular sized, nothing particularly strange about them.
Physique & Markings
Rance is a man of average height and weight. His body is athletic and fit, with strong muscles all over his arms, legs and torso. Some pale scars adorn his back and chest as a silent testament to his life as an adventurer, but they're barely noticeable unless someone examines them closely. His arms and legs also possess a couple of battle marks, although nowhere as noticeable as the ones on his torso. He also possesses a single black Ananta tattoo on the forearm of his left arm. When he smiles, he displays a curiously-looking pair of sharp teeth, almost sharklike, some have wondered if he was born to Miqo'te or beastmen parents because of it.
Hygiene & Attire
Rance is someone who bathes almost every single day, except when he goes to long trips or adventures. Even so, if there's the opportunity to take a dip in a nearby river or lake, he often does so. He also makes use of perfumes, spending a considerable amount of Gil on them. Rance's every day attire consists of a plate armor, made of a study combination of high steel, mythril and adamantite. The chestplate is often coated with a layer of dark green paint, his favorite color, and it's held by well concealed leather straps which keep his armor tightly together. He also wears a pair of black pants made of thin, yet resistant gaganaskin leather and a sturdy pair of toadskin boots and gloves. Hanging from the leather belt around his waist, Rance's prized sword hangs dormant, which immediately glows with a fiery energy once he decides to unsheathe it, thanks to his excellent control over his own Aether.
Personality
Psychological Profile
Brash and care-free, Rance is brutally honest and cares little about what others think of him. The man is quite infamous for his lust for life and women! More often than not, Rance either finds a new friend with benefits or ends with a hand-print on one of his cheeks! Very boastful and so sure of himself and his achievements, Rance has no qualms in sharing his explores. While he has achieved many deeds as an adventurer, his constant boasting and showing-off tends to cause a lot of rolling eyes as well plenty of jealousy with his peers. Perhaps his most notable personality trait is his ambition: Always aiming high and never giving up, Rance is a determined man who puts effort in everything he does, let it be a noble or not-so-noble goal. He also has no qualms in betraying his employers if he's given a better offer during a contract by an opposite party, but if he's paid handsomely by his original employer then Rance will diligently do his best to finish said contract. Despite all his defects and a dubious reputation that he managed to create over the years, the man displays quite the amount of loyalty to those he considers his friends and lovers, always willing to risk his life to aid them if they are in danger.
Voice
Rance's voice is firm and loud, always full of confidence and bravado. His laughter, however, is perhaps the most recognizable part of his voice, as many have described it to be rather infectious and obnoxious.

Experienced Adventurer: Rance has a wide knowledge of dungeons and whatever they might contain: From treasures and wealth, to monsters and traps. Most of the time, he's capable of guessing what kind of challenges he might find upon entering a dungeon or cave.
Brilliant Strategist: While most of the time Rance behaves like a lecherous brute, he has displayed a sharp mind when it comes to setting up traps and outsmarting his opponents in battle or outside of it.
Combat Abilities
Aether Slash: Rance gathers Aether into the blade of his sword and with a powerful slice, he unleashes a barrage of energy projectiles that can cut through almost everything with relative ease. He can also control the amount of Aether he uses to make a non-lethal version of that attack.
Aether Blast: By mustering a great amount of Aether into the blade of his sword, Rance can deliver a powerful attack in the form of a blue fireball that explodes in contact with anything. He can, as well, control the potency of the attack.

History
Sixth Astral Era
Childhood and Teenager Years
Rance was raised in an orphanage in Ul'dah, having born to parents who abandoned him as a baby. The only hint about his parents was from a merchant who saw a one-eyed woman placing a basket with Rance inside in front of the orphanage doors. From that point forward, Rance lived his life as yet another child from the orphanage, but displayed certain skills when he played with wooden swords and shields with the other children. It was during one of these mock battles when he realized that his future was to become a famous and daring adventurer... A notion that most children in the orphanage agreed with him.

After turning 13 years old, Rance left the orphanage to try his luck as an adventurer... A venture which went badly at first, since he was someone with no experience and no money to get proper equipment, but soon that luck changed when a group of adventurers took him over their wing to have someone who would cook for them and carry their equipment. Although somewhat annoyed with the notion of being a servant, Rance had no choice but to go along with the idea if he wanted to learn how to become a proper warrior and adventurer.

After two years, Rance finally got his opportunity to accompany his group into battle, taking care of a bunch of bandits plaguing Southern Thanalan. Feigning being part of an unguarded Caravan, Rance and his group were attacked by the bandits and they were dispatched pretty quickly, it was during that fight when Rance got his first kill: A boy as young as he was. Feeling slightly sick and guilty for taking a life, Rance realized that if he wanted to making a living as an adventurer and mercenary, he had to get used to kill a lot, which over the next months he did. To celebrate his first battle and kill, Rance's group took him to Ul'dah for drinks and company, where he met a thaumaturge of his age whom he absolutely adored. After spending a night with her, Rance returned to the following day to ask for her name but he soon learned that she had moved with her family to another city-state, never to see her again. Heart-broken, Rance sought solace in the arms of other women after every job with his adventurer group, with varying degrees of success. The group traveled through all the city-states offering their services, giving Rance the opportunity to elope with women, including a Raen traveling Miko and a Lalafell Noblewoman, both who would bore him illegitate children for good or ill. As expected, these experiences molded him into the daring, lecherous and skilled adventurer that he is today.

Seventh Umbral Era
Adulthood
After many adventures and jobs with his company, Rance grew to become a skilled adventurer and decided to leave his comrades to work as a mercenary and adventurer by his own. Tales of his exploits reached the ears of Jenlyns Straightblade, who invited Rance to partake training to become a Sultansworn... A profession the adventurer found rather boring and thus rejected, for he wished to be his own Master, not just "another of the Sultana's bodyguards". The next day, Rance packed his belongings and traveled to New Gridania in search of new jobs and opportunities.

With his arrival to Gridania, Rance enlisted himself in the Grand Company of the Twin Adders as a regular soldier, where he quickly climbed the ranks after fending the attacks of bandits in small settlements around the Shroud. Things seemed to go well for Rance until he mercilessly executed a group of surrendering bandits rather than delivering them to the Gridanian authorities. This incident had him discharged from the Twin Adders and stripped from his rank. Not wanting to incur the Twin Adders' wrath, Rance decided to move to Limsa, where he hoped that he'd have better luck making a name for himself.

His arrival to Limsa was uneventful, doing jobs for rich merchants that ranged from defending caravans to retrieving Gil for moneylenders. Everything continued well for Rance, until one job where he had to retrieve a hefty sum of money from a formerly rich Limsan merchant family of Plains. Unable to pay with coin, the Plains Family Patriarch decided to sell his youngest niece, a girl with the name of Sill, as payment. The girl had lost both of her parents and was forced to live with her immediate family, working as a Healer for Limsa's Maelstrom Grand Company, but was never in good terms with them. Finding Sill of his liking, Rance accepted the trade and brought Sill with him. However, the adventurer's employer wasn't happy with the trade and ordered both Rance and Sill to be killed on the spot. However, the other hirelings were no match for Rance's experience and Sill's magical skills. With no witnesses to point accusing fingers at the new pair of adventurers, both decided to head towards Ul'dah to start anew...

In Recent Times
An Ambition Reborn...
After arriving to Ul'dah, news and rumors of a new Garlean invasion reached Rance and with a somewhat ill reputation in nearly all of the Eorzan City-States, he decided head to Ala Mhigo along with his new companion Sill. Passing by Southern Thanalan, Rance made a considerable amount of Gil by mining and smithing mythril ingots, it was there where he met several Miqo'te from the U tribe as he traded Mythril ore with them, earning funds to start a new venture. During one of those travels, he met a Miqo'te with deep emerald eyes and hair as white as the clouds above. Traveling to Ala Mhigo, Rance and Sill were ambushed by the troop of a Garlean warrior named Rickard Aan Valerius, true name Rickard Addison. In the onslaught of their battle, Rance and Rickard foguht to a stalemate and yet, despite being so close to kill each other, they became fast friends. Invited to the Garlean Armed Forces by Rickard, both Rance and Sill soon joined and fought many battles in Gyr Abania and North Thanalan against Resistance and Allied Forces. During the following months, Rance along with Sill and Rickard were deployed to deal with Doman Rebels. During one of the skirmishes, Rance's troop was engaged by the army of Kenshi Uesugi, of the many Doman Warlords opposing the Empire, challenging the Rickard himself. Kenshi was a Samurai famed by her beauty and skill with the blade, reason why Rance decided to face her instead of Rickard. The battle ended mostly in a stalemate, with Kenshi having the advantage most of the time, and eventually the two forces retreated. Albeit slightly wounded with his battle with rhe Doman Swordsmaiden, Rance decided to make her his woman. In the course of the following weeks, Kenshi's Clan was defeated by a combined assault of mefhanized infrantry and aereal attacks by the Garlean Forces, eventually capturing her. Using that opportunity to get in her good graces, Rance negotiated her release as a vassal Clan to the Garlean Empire in exchange for the pay of his campaign (and to the slight disapproval of Sill and Rickard, their pay too). It was there, however, when news of the defeat of Legatus Gaius van Baelsar reached the Garlean Forces in Doman shores. Knowing that it wouldn't take long for the Empire to be on the defensive, Rance and his two companions defected from the Garlean Armed Forces. It was then when tragedy struck, as Rick was then killed by Imperial Shadows who tried to stop the defectors. With his last breath, Rance's best friend asked him to take care of his son back in Eorzea. Begrudgingly, Rance had no choice but to accept the dying wish of his "battle brother". Traveling to Kugane from Doma, Rance and Sill performed several tasks until they gained enough money to buy a small house in the district of Shirogane. From there, Rance began his quest for riches, glory and women... An ambition he nearly forgot but was rekindled after so many battles and the loss of a dear friend.

Forward! Towards Heaven...
With a "base of operatons" set up in Shirogane, Rance and Sill traveled back to Eorzea. After weeks of travel, they arrived to Limsa once more and took passage to the northern nation of Ishgard, just as Nidhogg Forces launched a raid against the city's gates. Although wary of strangers, the Ishgardian forces had no choice but to accept the aid of Rance and Sill, both of them helping against the attack on the Steps of Faith. It was there when Rance, without knowing, fought alongside the Warrior of Light. After repelling the assault from the Horde, Rance and his companion were allowed access to Ishgard and it was there where he took as many jobs as possible in order to earn Gil, fame and glory for himself. Of course, his mercenary and rather unorthodox way to solve problems caused no small amount of issues with the local guilds, therefore banning him from getting any more jobs in Ishgard. Everything seemed to go south for Rance and Sill, but soon enough a series of disturbs in Ishgard caused enough conmotion and chaos for Rance and Sill to sneak into the Vault, looting many treasures: One being Rance's favorite blade which he uses to this day. Fortunately for Rance, the disappeareance of said valuables was attributed to the riots, therefore exhonerating somewhat from the theft of said valables. Still, not wanting to incur the wrath of the Heavensward, Rance and Sill decided to leave Ishgard with their ill-gotten loot, returning to the land of Hinganshi, after hearing rumours of the unparallaled beauty of Doma's Acting Viceroy: Yotsuyu Goe Brutus.

A Storm of Blood gathers...
By the time Rance and Sill returned to Higanshi, rumours about another uprising started brew, specially after learning about Ishgard joining the other city-states into an Alliance to oppose the Garlean Empire. As usual, Rance prepared himself to offer his services to both sides in order to earn as much money and fame as possible... All while getting in the good graces of the Acting Viceroy of Doma. However, destiny had other plans, as Rance was confident the rebellion against the Garlean Domains in Doma would take longer to reach a critical point as he aided them, but the arrival of the Warrior of Light to Doma changed Rance's plans drastically. By the time he was ready to offer his services to the Garlean Forces in Doma, a host of Doman Rebels and Xaela Warriors launched an attack on Doma Castle, seat of the Garlean Authority in Doma, and thus ruining Rance's chances to ever meet Viceroy Yotsuyu Goe Brutus. Even after the destruction of thr castle, Rance heard rumours about Yotsuyu surviving and, fueled by a lustful desire to have her, searched far and wide all over Othard but to no avail. Despite losing said opportunity to make the former Viceroy his, Rance managed to collect enough gold to upgrade his home into a Castle. It was rumored that a destitute Princess aided him in the project, with the condition of turning the Castle into an indoor city for her clan. With his goal fulfilled of having an impressive home, Rance returned to Eorzea once more and offered his services as a mercenary with the Allied Forces, taking part on the siege of Ala Mhigo and the battle of the Ghimlyt Dark. While some pointed out Rance's previous defections, he managed to weasel his way out of a military court and punishment by explaining that he was spying on the Garleans, as well pointing out his participation on the previously mentioned battles as a soldier for the City-State Alliance. That and he also used his own loot to aid in the restorarion of Gyr Abania, although somewhat begrudgingly. Once more, with a lot of luck, Rance escaped the consequences for the time being.

Shadows I bring to you...
With an apparent peace ruling over Eorzea after pushing the Garlean Forces back, Rance and Sill spend their time together fulfilling contracts of all types for the Adventurer's Guild. Rumours of a different world which could be accessed somewhere in Mor Dhona eventually reached Rance's ers... But, surprisingly, he paid no attention to such things. He was determined to make his most glorious days happen in Eorzea.

RP Limits
I like to consider myself a flexible player who is willing to commit to a number of different types of scenes and role-play scenarios, but even I have my limits. If something is on the play list, assume it means yes, as long as it's within the context of the current play or ongoing plot. No's are typically a hard no, and it means don't ask.

While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP, unless I'm actively spamming PvE content.

I'm open to most scenarios within reason. I consider myself friendly, so if you see me around please do not hesitate in sending me a /tell or a message of any kind.
Character Lore Adherence
Despite what it might seen in the previous pages, I like to adhere at the lore as much as possible. Goes without saying that Rance doesn't know all of the events in the FFXIV questline, but has been present in some events as a minor participant (After all, he is NOT the Warrior of Light/Darkness)/
Character Concept
As you could possibly expect, Rance is based in the same character from the same series of H-Games. Of course, this version of Rance was born in Eorzea rather than his own world, so parts of his personality might be different. He also possesses a quick wit and taunting, sharp tongue from the likes of Jaime Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire.

Tropes & Explanations
A trope is a convention or device that is often found in creative works. In this case, the tropes below describe my character either in part, or as a whole. Their background, personality, appearance, etc, most of them can be described in the tropes below.
Trope Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés.
