"I'll do it for the coin, but don't expect a hero." —Red Beast
Standing at a massive at seven-fulms-four-ilms tall and weighing about 250 ponze, Red Beast is a monster of a woman. Typical to her race, Red's entire body—arms, legs, even her neck—are thick with muscle and sinew and her limbs are as mighty tree trunks. Years of battle have left the statuesque forty-four year old Hellsguard's reddish-brown skin rippling with chiseled musculature, and quite a few scars mark her flesh.
Usually seen with a confident smirk spread across her angular face, Red's eyes are a deep shade of crimson that matches her usual shade of lipstick and the small ruby on her forehead. Like most Roegadyn, her nose is wide and flat, but relatively small. A smattering of black ash coats the tip, as is custom to her clan. Dark makeup lines her eyes, and long scar is drawn down her left eye.
Surprisingly, she is very particular about her appearance and, while she doesn't use a great deal of makeup, she never fails to put it on before going outside.
A head of thick, hard, jet black hair covers Red's head, typically spiked to the left of her face and braided on the right side of her head. She often decorates her hair with a crimson dye, streaking her ebon locks with a blood red to match her name. The other parts of her body are shaved, as she tends to show off her arms and model in swimsuits, preferring not to be seen with any unsightly hairs.
Years of hefting her Bravura have left her hands calloused and tough. She keeps her fingernails short and free of decoration, but always seems to file them in such a way that they match unless she happens to break one. It's not unusual for her face to be slightly darker than the rest of her body, as her armor doesn't cover the front of her face below her nose.
When she speaks, Red is prone to being proud and boisterous in her deep contralto. She has a frank manner of speech and isn't the type to use overly complicated words to get her point across. Despite her brevity, she's quite fluent in the common tongue—both in reading and writing—and shows both intelligence and wit under her bluster.

Biography
Early Life
Born in 1537 to a Hellsguard warrior in Abalathia's Spine, Red's mother died not long after giving birth to her. It was from his resentment of his daughter that her father, Molten Heart, named the blood-covered newborn Red Beast. Not long after this, he left home to continue his mercenary ways, unwilling to raise the child that took his beloved from him. Instead, Red grew up in the care of her parents' friends within the village and lived with a local smith.
The lineage of Red Beast traces back to the ancient warriors of Abalathia's Spine. Notably, where most Hellsguard traditionally destroy their Bravura greataxes when they give up the mercenary trade, Red's family line has never had need of this tradition. The men and women of her line have wielded the family Bravura, later re-christened Brynhildr, through the War of the Sisters and the Autumn War, and each died in battle with his or her pride as a mercenary intact.
Growing up, Red felt eager to join the mercenary tradition. Boisterous and energetic, she sought to become powerful in order to win fame and glory when she came of age and could leave her home. To that end, she practiced her skill with the axe and learned to repair and craft metal to better serve her on her journeys to come. She also participated in the tradition of firewalking, and showed some talent for thaumaturgy, even if not as prominent as her skill as a warrior.
By the year 1555 of the Sixth Astral Era, Red Beast came of age and prepared to leave home. The smith who raised her crafted a suit of Fighter's Armor to celebrate the occasion. In her first foray into Eorzea, Red visited Tailfeather in the Dravanian Forelands. After slaying a bear to protect one of the region's trappers, she was rewarded with her lifelong chocobo companion, whom she named Syggfryd, meaning "Victory Peace" in the old Roegadyn tongue.
By 1557, she left Dravania and came to the western highlands of Coerthas, where she aided the Convictors in slaying the dragon Fafnir. From there, she finally descended Abalathia's Spine and, following a trek through the lowlands and the lands of Mor Dhona, arrived in Thanalan and the great city of Ul'dah. Once there, Red set about making a name for herself in the Jewel of the Desert, offering her services to the Adventurers' Guild and participating on the bloodsands.
The Infernal Gladiator
Two years into her career, having earned herself the name as "The Infernal" in the Coliseum, she suffered her first loss against the bladedancing techniques of a new, upcoming gladiator named Raubahn Aldynn. Surviving the match, Red regarded Raubahn as a worthy opponent and expressed her enjoyment of their match despite her loss. Though she feared her mercenary career would suffer for her loss, her exciting match actually made her more popular.
In the same year that Ul'dah would lose its Sultan and Sultana, Red finally encountered her father. Molten Heart, a shell of who he once was, sought his daughter out after hearing of her name and her success. The mercenary had gone without work for a twelvemoon, owing to his increasing alcoholism since the death of his beloved. The twenty-four year old Hellsguard offered her sire neither sympathy nor charity, regarding him with disgust.
Both parties refusing to reconcile, Red demanded that Molten Heart give up Brynhildr, the family Bravura, to her, as she deemed him unworthy of wielding it. He refused, and so she decided to challenge him directly for the prize. Molten Heart, infuriated, agreed. To her surprise, despite his drunkenness, her father was every bit as ferocious as he boasted and nearly bested his daughter, but youth and stamina ultimately defeated age and experience. The battle left her with a characteristic scar on her left eye.
Molten Heart did not part with his heirloom graciously, tossing Brynhildr to the ground and denouncing his daughter as a thief robbing an old man of his only remaining treasure. The young warrior smugly looked on, hardening her heart to her father's tears and taking pride in her victory. In her own way, she thought it a form of vengeance for abandoning her. It would be many years before Red would see Molten Heart again.
Red left Ul'dah not long after the parade incident of 1562, surmising that the incident was no accident, but having no proof to her claim. Nonetheless, she felt uneasy within the city and, beset with wanderlust, took her business elsewhere for a time. Chartering a passenger flight to Vylbrand on the newly-opened Highwind Skyways airship transport, she arrived in Limsa Lominsa not long after the ascension of Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn to the position of Admiral.
Not long into her visit, Red enlisted with the Company of Heroes. Seeking to earn further glory by testing her skills against Titan, Lord of Crags, and Leviathan, Lord of the Whorl, she accompanied the Company in 1566 to defeat the Primals. The experience proved far more harrowing than she could ever know. Titan took so many on the battlefield that it took all her courage to stand alongside the Company against Leviathan.
The news that the Primals were summoned anew not long after shook her to her core. For that reason, Red left La Noscea and the Company of Heroes, wishing to have no further interaction with the primal gods of the beastmen. Returning to Thanalan, she sought instead to take out the beastman servitors of Ifrit—the Amalj'aa. While many of her battles during this time were against the lizardmen, she still fought in the Coliseum and occasionally worked as a blacksmith.
1572 saw the revival of the Grand Companies and the end of an era. Because of her experience on the bloodsands years prior, Red gladly threw her lot in with Raubahn Aldynn as a member of the Immortal Flames. Under the Ul'dahn banner, she fought against the Garleans in Northern Thanalan and at Castrum Novum in Mor Dhona. On the eve of the Calamity, she stood alongside the other Grand Companies' soldiers and battled the Garlean VIIth Legion.
A New Era
It was only by fortune that Red survived the Calamity. Left wounded on the battlefield, the Order of the Twin Adder resuscitated her and ensured her full recovery. Damage from the explosive impacts left internal wounds on the Hellsguard warrior, and it would take her a year to fully convalesce. Once she had, however, she stopped training and seemed reluctant to take up the axe again. The horrors of her career began to take their toll, haunting her.
Three years into the Seventh Umbral Era, Red began to consider becoming the first to wield Brynhildr to willingly set aside her axe and armor for good. But, when her drifting brought her to Limsa Lominsa, she found her father once again. Stripped of his axe and pride, Molten Heart hit his lowest point, but recovered when he put his hands to the forges of Naldiq & Vymelli's. Sober and calm, the old man apologized for his failures and listened to his daughter.
While he could not heal her scars, he said, he knew it would not do to dwell upon them, or to allow them to hold her down. He did not know whether she would continue to serve as a mercenary or choose a more peaceful life. He only advised her to do what would bring her inner peace—for without it, she would not only be unable to command her Inner Beast but be unable to put the past behind her. For the first time, Molten Heart embraced his child.
Red came to her decision. She wanted to be a mercenary, wanted to win fame, glory, and wealth, and to be remembered. Molten Heart reforged the family Bravura with his daughter. In the style of her favorite Hellsguard hero, Iron Eater, they made the head of the axe twice as heavy as normal. With fire crystals added into the axehead to work in conjunction with her thaumaturgy, they re-christened it Brynhildr.
Though Red often left Limsa, she always returned to keep her aging father company, unfortunately she was away when he finally passed at the age of sixty and four. She received her family's Soul Crystal after his passing, a posthumous gift to encourage his daughter to keep advancing
