Character

General

At the age of 11, Renata was pulled from the burning ruins of her home by a close friend of hers, and together they fled to the seaside village where Renata's cousin Eorla lived. But the event changed something within Renata. She went from a joyful, carefree spirit to being distant, cold, and often downright antagonistic, and there are very few exceptions to that rule.

Beyond that, Renata doesn't want me to say anything else. You'll have to try and find that out ICly.

Personality

Renata is loyal to very few, and though she can be downright hostile to anyone she doesn't know, there are exceptions. She identifies with pain, and if someone is carrying a heavy burden, she will not add to it. Her heart has a soft spot for the downtrodden, so much so that she can almost appear downright friendly and concerned.

Combat

General

Renata is a member of several Guilds, as she likes to branch out. Her strengths in combat involve magic, knife throwing, and spearcraft. Her weaknesses are swords, axes, and a bow & arrow.

Tendencies

Renata came to the more populated areas of Eorzea in a search for her cousin, Eorla, who never responded to a letter Renata had sent her. She did receive word that Eorla was on a pilgrimage, and though Renata could have returned home, she decided to stick around.

If your char knows Eorla Brynn, but not Renata, it is perfectly okay to approach Renata ICly saying she looks like someone you know. But be prepared for a reception that is nothing like the one normally given by Eorla. The familial resemblance is very clear, though there are subtle differences between the two women. The physical resemblance is almost the only thing the two women have in common.

Flaws

Renata has her flaws, though she does not show them. Her exterior is almost constantly cold, and distant. She does not trust easily, in fact, she can be almost outwardly antagonistic if approached on the wrong day...but if you're female, she is less cold, sometimes even downright friendly. Sometimes. If you want to know her flaws, you'll have to get to know her. Don't let her exterior fool you though. When she drops the act for someone, that person can know they've got a devoted, loyal friend who will make a mother bear look like a lamb compared to her wrath if those she holds close are injured in any way, shape, or form.

She may come off as cocky when speaking on the arcane arts or knife-wielding, but this is due to her almost clinical, analytic manner when discussing a topic on which she is reasonably educated. In truth, she is not egotistical at all, and having acquired two pupils, she often wonders why in the hells these two people decided to approach her, of all people, for instruction.

Family

Renata's father, Ralof.

• Father: Ralof Lynn - A skilled swordsman, Ralof was a loving husband and doting father. When Renata begged for a sword for her 5th birthday so she could "Be like Papa", Ralof gave her a set of daggers, her very first, saying the sword was too heavy for her. He taught her everything he knew about the art of the knife, and paid for her lessons when her skill surpassed his own. He was proud of his family, and died trying to save them.

Renata's mother, Sif.

• Mother: Sif Lynn - Sif was formidable with a sword and skilled with her hands and feet, but around her family, she was a soft, gentle woman who guided her spirited daughter with a firm but tender hand. Renata adored her mother and never hesitated to turn to her for guidance and advice. Sif perished trying to save her children.

• Brother: Arik Lynn - Renata's very young brother, he was less than 20 moons old when he died. While Renata misses her parents deeply, Arik's memory instills a sense of guilt and unfairness within her, as she was unable to save him, and would have died as well had it not been for the efforts of someone else. Arik seems to be the only absolutely off-limits topic to Renata. Anyone wanting to know about him would be better off approaching Eorla, Renata's cousin.

• Cousin: Eorla Brynn, conjurer. Renata views her older cousin as a sister. It was Eorla who tended to Renata's injuries, spending nearly an entire moon anchoring Renata's soul to the realm of the living. Renata and Eorla are extremely close, and frequently write one another.

Friends

• Elijah Levesque: A friend since childhood, Renata is thankful to him for her life, as he saved her from her burning home. He was one of her closest friends, and for a time, Renata thought she liked him as something more. But after a particular incident, Renata distanced herself from him.
• Percival Turner: A kindred spirit she met attempting to drown her problems in firewater, Percival slowly but surely chipped away at Renata's icy exterior, and she found herself becoming very fond of him rather quickly. After what happened with Elijah, Renata tried to keep her mouth shut and ignore the frightening feelings the Midlander was causing her to feel, but following Renata's first crack at the Grindstone, in which she was eliminated in the first round, she confessed to him that she was falling in love with him, and they have become a couple.
• Zy'dala Shen - A young Mi'qote friend of Eorla's whom Renata met while tacking up flyers in Coerthas. A shaky first impression gave way to a common ground. Renata sees much of herself in the young woman, and she demonstrates an almost warm concern for Zy'dala.
