BASIC INFO
Captain of the Sinner's Mercy, the flagship of the Velvet Bizarre trading company. Trained swordsman, focusing primarily on curved blades. Adept at fast draw techniques. She's a collector of many things and a trader of all.
HISTORY
Artoria Tumet spent the first ten years of her life among the Tumet Xaela clan. She doesn't talk much about her life before they abandoned her, but she will say that it wasn't the worst and that her family was kind to her. At age ten, she was tied to a tree and left to find the tribe herself, the typical Tumet ritual. Once she wriggled herself free, the young Xaela made her way to the shore, where she collapsed of exhaustion. She woke up on a ship, out at sea, tied to the mast. The ship was the Night Artorias, and the captain took the small girl aboard so that he might have a "mistress".
Luck. Luck is what saved the poor girl. She was abducted by pirates with actual heart. The intended mistress became more of a daughter figure to the Captain, simply referred to as Cap, and a Princess-like figure to the rest of the crew. They started to care so much for the little nameless Xaela that they named her after their ship. Artoria's youthful innocence pushed the crew to turn over a new leaf, from pirating and pillaging to being respectable businessmen of the sea, traders. The crew took turns teaching the girl what they could before, at the young age of eleven, Artoria took over the second ship of the new, significantly less-piratey fleet. She showed promise when it came to handling money, so they basically had her do trade negotiations and the adults would actually go out and handle deals in her stead. Much aside from the volume of trading she handled and the physicality of growing up, Artoria's life didn't change much for a long time. The crew viewed her as a Princess and, as such, they somewhat kept her locked away on the ship so she wouldn't be hurt. Much of her knowledge of the outside world came from her love of reading. At age thirteen, she got her first peer, her loyal first mate, Tenma. Tenma was a young miqo'te girl that the crew found clinging to a barrel for life in the ocean. They hoisted the girl aboard; where Artoria was waiting to welcome her to the crew. Artoria started not only handling the money, but also teaching Tenma to do the same. She had a plan. Her sequestration changed on her sixteenth birthday, when the young girl decided that she would handle deals and that everyone else could just handle the moving of the goods. The crew didn't like that, but she demanded it.
It took three years to create a fantastically successful trade company with Artoria handling the deals herself. Seemed people were much more likely to help a pretty woman over a still-somewhat-pirate-looking man. Her life changed for a second time when she showed up at a trade company, looking to rake them over the coals and make some money. That company was the Ruby Carbuncle, which later became the Dread Wyrms, and her home.
PERSONALITY
Artoria is a generally good natured person. She cares for those close to her, and does all that she can to protect them. Those that she doesn't like are generally well aware of that fact too, unless they are daft. She usually sticks to backhanded compliments when speaking with individuals she doesn't like. She's a rather trusting person as a whole, though, and it takes quite a bit to get on her bad side. Overall, she's a fairly quiet person who likes who she likes and keeps those people near and dear to her. At the same time, she's cold. She doesn't bat an eyelash if she has to kill someone, and will make sure their body's never found again. Once she has a sword in her hands, a lot of things about her change. She becomes much quieter and seems to lose much of her compassion. She finds joy in creating beautiful art with the blood of enemies.
COMBAT
Artoria's primary concentration is on swordplay, focusing on curved blades, and further focusing on Iaido. Since a certain incident happened, she's been unable to do her draws with conventional swords, as the blades tend to explode. Due to this, Artoria has developed a means of forming and compressing Aether into the shape of swords, which she gives form and weight to. This puts a strain of her body, but her body's stopped feeling the strain from single swords. Once she makes multiple, she starts to feel the strain.
RELATIONS
♥ Romantic Interest / ♥ Platonic Love / ★ Trusted / ● Good Standing / ● Neutral / ● Wary / ● Hated
♥★ Shiori Eikitaika - What started as a somewhat questionable relationship has developed, in Artoria at the very least, into an almost blind, one-sided adoration of Shiori. After having confessed her feelings to Shiori and been put in the "Sister-zone"; Artoria stands off to the side, quietly admiring Shiori and respecting Shiori's relationship with T'sharo. More recently, Artoria has accepted her role as Shiori's 'little sister', a transition that's been made easy by Raih.
● Ashwyn Starsteel - He's a friend to Artoria. They work great together in combat. Artoria respects Ashwyn more than most others.
● Roni Oni - How annoying this Little one used to be. Artoria helped him despite all his idiocy and childishness. She's even started to like him to some degree.
♥ Raih Unaze - Raih looks quite a bit like Artoria's first mate, Ten. Arty finds Raih to be a very beautiful and fun woman that she likes quite a bit. That aside, the two met under rather boring conditions, just a night at the company bar. After a few dates, the two of them decided to finally call each other "girlfriends" a step that Raih was aprehensive of at first. Artoria hasn't made it easy for Raih, having already confessed her love for the Keeper.
★ Riella Blackthorn - She's one of Artoria's best and most trusted friends.
