BRAY THATCHER ■■■■

A man with a hearty appetite whose only known allergy is all manners of silence. His birthplace, a farm in the city-state of Gridania, left him wanting for little throughout his childhood — save for dairy products, his own Chocobo and, depending on the day, two less siblings.

His father was a stolid and humorless man plagued by frequent headaches and vexed by his youngest's penchant for singing across the field. "Stop that braying!" became an oft-recited joke between his sons, and eventually use of Bray's nickname surpassed that of his given one by all but his mother Rowena, a stern but affectionate woman who emphasized the importance of literacy, arithmetic, and history. As an adult, Bray with a book is a rare sight, but in boyhood he was as studious as need be to appease her.

Although Rowena's passed-down appreciation of all things scholarly wavered, her envy of luxury remains with her son to this day. Bray is, in fact, even more frivolous with his gil; whereas Rowena at least spends hers on tangible goods of intrinsic value, Bray will squander his on dubious potions and fortune readings just to say he did. It's all fun and games until you spend a full day's wage on nonsense items and find yourself sleeping on the ground, isn't it?

Needless to say, Bray has an aversion to long-range planning, and he's no more likely to dwell on the negative — on war, on regret, on days or people gone by. He'll typically avoid personal conflict even at the expense of mending longstanding relationships, and oversimplifies the wrongs and wrongdoers of the world up to the point of willful ignorance. This makes him a less than ideal candidate to give advice, though it doesn't keep him from it if asked. He is much better at (and much prefers) practical, hands-on care.

Bray's two brothers were a single year apart, with Bray himself five and six years their junior. He was often left behind, or grudgingly taken along at their mother's behest, then pinched, punched, pushed around. His hardships never went beyond typical family grievances, but none the less left Bray even more inclined to prove to himself, consciously and subconsciously, that others want him around. He is by nature an incredibly helpful and generous man, yet many of his deeds are done with the expectation of verbal appreciation in mind, seeking outside validation for what he already thinks of himself: that he's truly an okay guy.

At his best, he's an observant, adaptable, enthusiastic young man who can muster up genuine interest in just about anything (albeit for a varying duration of time).

In the worst of times, he's a tetchy, broody fellow who takes criticism of any sort far too personally.

EXTENDED INFORMATION ■■■■

Server: Mateus

Full Name: Lakely Thatcher

Age: 22

Race: Hyur - Midlander

Residence: Gridania

Patron Deity: Nophica

Occupation: Trying not to starve.

▸ Race Relations

Elezen

- Wildwood: Having grown up in Gridania, Bray's met his share of Wildwoods. He tends to presume they'll be somewhere on the sliding scale of bossy and uptight, but holds them in high esteem none the less.

- Duskwight: Duskwights served as the boogeyman in Bray's household. His mother would warn her children to behave lest one come to kidnap them in the middle of the night. That's what happens to misbehaving children, don't cha know. As an adult, Bray knows she exaggerates, but would still be likely to walk the opposite way if he ever came across one.

Hyur

- Midlander: The best, obviously.

- Highlander: Nothing to give you an inferiority complex like a Highlander. Bray tends to feel anxious around them, but otherwise harbors no particularly negative feelings about them.

Lalafell

- Plainsfolk: "I've never met a Plainsfolk I didn't like," says Bray.

- Dunesfolk: Most of his interaction with the Dunesfolk thus far begins and ends at his friendship with Rorofen Lilifen. He presumes most of them are good with their gil.

Miqo'te

- Seekers of the Sun: No strong opinion one way or the other.

- Keepers of the Moon: Bray's father was a bit hard-nosed about the Keepers due to run-ins with poachers. Bray, however, had several of them as friends in childhood and tends to regard them with the same kind familiarity he does the Wildwood people.

Roegadyn

- Sea Wolves: No strong opinion one way or the other.

- Hellsguard: In childhood, Bray would often pretend to be a Hellsguard, usually as a later sibling who was cast out and became the greatest adventurer of all time. It wasn't until adulthood he spoke to one at length, and now that man, Reckless Boar, is one of his two traveling companions.

Au Ra

- Raen: No strong opinion one way or the other.

- Xaela: No strong opinion one way or the other.

RELATIONSHIPS ■■■■

Rorofen Lilifen & Reckless Boar

Bray's current traveling companions, a Dunesfolk and Hellsguard respectively. Due to his pale skin, Bray originally mistook Rorofen for a Plainsfolk and stopped to chat. Rorofen, it turned out, had lost his forehead gem. They searched fruitlessly until Reckless came across them, at which point he found the gem... under the rock he'd accidentally set on top of it.

The trio, each down on their luck, headed for the nearest inn and agreed to split the cost of a room. They've since remained together as it's more sensible for their wallets (and in Bray's case, his want for someone to listen to him talk).

RP HOOKS / SEEKING ■■■■

Pending. At this point, feel free to whisper / tell / PM with any ideas. I am still finding my footing on Mateus.

OOC INFORMATION ■■■■

Generally, I'm a heavy RPer who enjoys multifaceted RP that delves deep into characterization without breaking the lore (bending it is a case-by-case basis), be it lighthearted or darker in nature. Vulgar language, graphic violence, and sexual situations have the all clear from me provided they fit within the narrative.

The IC and OOC line is to be adhered to always. Period.

Communication is key and common sense applies. Don't expect to murder or maim my character(s) without any say on my end. On the flip side, I gladly accept consequences within reason, and do my best to avoid people who refuse them.

I'm always open to RP requests and can be convinced of pretty much anything as long as it keeps the above in mind.
