Appearance

Caelia has dark brown eyes, longish black hair with varying highlights - currently red-- left down to around her lower back, and pale skin. She stands at a whopping 5'2".

Her clothes mainly favour knee-high and thigh high boots, and she'll wear anything that keeps her comfortable. On her left hip is something best described as a scar - though it's not quite a scar - of the mark of Azeyma; on her right hip is the mark of Althyk. Cae keeps them magically hidden when in more revealing clothes (such as a swimsuit,) and will deny it's there if asked about it.

History

Caelia hails from far to the north, near the old Sharlayan city-state in the Dravanian Hinterlands. After the City of Amdapor was lost to Diabolos, those she descended from traveled north, staying in hiding and merely passing on the knowledge left to them down through the ages, taking on the knowledge of other forms of magicks beyond conjury and white magicks. Being of the Amdapori, her aether shows as much, however she does deny any association with the ancient race mainly to keep herself and her people safe.

At a young age, Caelia lost her parents, though she doesn't quite remember how. Through the use of magic, her grandmother repressed her memories of the event: through a silly dare from her friends to try to use some of the more forbidden conjury from her grandmother's books, the attempt was too much for her tiny body to take. Her parents tried to stop the out of control aether, paying with their lives. In order to save her granddaughter from the grief of knowing she had, in some way, killed her parents, her grandmother repressed the memories of Caelia and her friends. They were subsequently told that they had died while out trading for supplies. In turn, Caelia learned thaumaturgy over the traditional white magic that the Amdapori were known for, moving on to black magic as she got older.

Being so close to Sharlayan was beneficial in the study of black magic and controlling it outside of a soulstone - for a time, anyway. For as long as the Sharlayans had been there, they'd found it fascinating that group thought to have been laid to waste still lived, even moreso that this particular group so close to them were of a pure bloodline. While Caelia's grandmother urged her granddaughter and her friends to be careful in giving away too much information, they visited the city-state and answered as many questions as they were able, in turn gaining knowledge on the magicks and how to control them. It's the knowledge gained from this time that allows Caelia to use black magic, though some spells are still greatly out of her reach. It also helped that she got her hands on a Soulstone that resonated with her, though the Sharlayans didn't know (nor care, as they were on their way back to the Motherlands) that she had taken it from them. Still, higher Black Magic is not easy to control, nor contain, though she's slowly learning how to do so.

Not long after the time of the Calamity, she lost many of her friends to sickness and famine: though Ishgard had long closed its gates to outsiders, many traders had still roamed freely (and gotten around Ishgard by taking the long roads) up until the snows came and dragons had gotten increasingly more brash. Many settlements around where the hidden Amdapori hamlet is slowly died out, traders slowly stopped coming in from the mainlands and, with Sharlayan gone nearly 15 years prior to that, no places to stay safe really remained. Caelia lost her love and someone who had been with her since she was small to this sickness, one of the few times she really cried. Locke had been planning on marrying her, something she had learned only while he was on his deathbed. She doesn't talk about him much anymore, despite it being years after. It was for this reason that she's hesitant to get close to anyone, or let anyone in. Those in her hamlet decided they needed to do something, and even went so far as to try to move themselves into the old Sharlayan city. It didn't work, as too many were too sick and weak to make such a move, and so it fell to those who weren't as bad off as the rest. Caelia and two others left the hamlet two years after the Calamity, looking for ways to save their people, from gil making to sending back provisions and medicine to help.

Two years after setting foot into Eorzea proper, Caelia was inducted into the Seaswarm Privateers largely against her will, and made a go-between for the Seaswarm and a rich merchant prince and his company, the Sunvelvet Consortium in Ul'dah. In this time she met the man who, at this point in time, is one of the few people she would willingly put her life down for: Terris Blackthorne. He's one of the few she's allowed to get close, only after he helped her out in hiding her from one of the Monetarist members and their thugs in Ul'dah. At some point in her extended work stay in Coerthas (and now, Ishgard) she's been gifted with a Lesser Panda from Terris. It's kept her company (and pretty much sane in Snow Hell) and will for the rest of her days, she's fairly certain.

After some time away (and ceasing any sort of talk about what she had been doing or what she planned,) Caelia has since been brought back to Ul'dah, giving poor Terris more gray hair than he had previously, most likely, but she came back in a Not Okay state of health. How this will pan out will be decided on if she can quell that desire to wander and be doing - something much harder than she'd like to let on. She's also seemingly gained a new set of magical abilities, though she keeps quiet on that, the aether around her speaks differently.

Personality

Caelia is cold towards most, affectionately called "grumpymage" by her mun as it fits her best. However, if one can get past the cold demeanor and the grumpy that she exudes most of the time, one will find that she does indeed smile, even if it's a light smile. Some claim that when she's angry, or even when she's expressing some form of annoyance there's almost what can be called a fire in her eyes.

Once one has passed her initial stages of cold and grumpy, Caelia is fiercely loyal and would give her own life to help those she's become close to. Those who can get past her initial defenses quickly (those who are genuinely nice people and just keep talking to her despite her grumping at them some are usually the exception) will find that she's willing to help them out in problems, should they ask. Despite her own problems, there is a desire to help others should she find those in need, and for the most part she won't turn down helping someone out.

Aside from all of these aspects of her, she has been and will always be incredibly reckless, much to the displeasure of her boyfriend. While she denies it, she knows one of these days it'll end up getting her badly hurt - or worse. She's also starting to generate a lot of wanderlust - being cooped up, even if it is in a room she shares with Terris, is starting to really get to her. She's starting to enjoy traveling around a little more, though it's likely to get her in trouble more than anything.

Other Notes

Religion

While she largely worships all of the Twelve in some way, the two that have gotten the most from her in terms of prayer are Azeyma and Althyk. Some days, when she's in Thanalan, she has no problems in going out to the Deity stone for Azeyma for some peace. Other Deity stones are also fair game for her to visit. The Sanctum of the Twelve, despite it getting busier, is also an area of reflection and contemplation.

Quirks

If she's really, really angry, she tends to lose the polite and proper way of speaking.

Rumours

The following rumours can be heard about Caelia, predominantly in Ul'dah. (If your character has an opinion about her, feel free to add it here.)

Common rumours

  • Did you see that girl? She was bringing food out to the refugees on Pearl Lane and outside the city! Has she gone mad?
  • I heard someone tried to kill her in a back alley, and she charred them to a crisp! I wouldn't get near her if I were you.
  • I see her in Pearl Lane a lot. Is she poor or something? She doesn't look it.
  • She's part o' one of the pirate crews outta Limsa, the Swarmsea? Somethin' like that. Doesn't look very pirate-y to me.

Uncommon rumours

  • She's got some weird power. I saw when she burned those thugs. Fire came right out of her hand!
  • She's got to be a courtesan, she ain't that rich an' she's got all those nice things... I mean, she has come outta that host house, I'm jus' puttin' two an' two together!
