Summary
Darius (dare-ee-us) Wanderer and exile. Formerly second in command of the mysterious Iron Clan Hyur of the Xelphatol mountains North of Gridania. Leader of the Wurmwatch and slayer of dark beings that often plagued his people. Groomed since birth to protect and serve his Lord, Darius possesses a canny sense for danger and an ability to overwhelm opponents by sheer force of will and ability. He's a master craftsman and tracker, who's lead numerous excursions into many a dark and menacing lair of evil. His journey to the more inhabited regions of Eorzea was precipitated by a calamitous rift in the Clan, which robbed him of his titles and his family. His goal now is simple. Amass wealth and experience, to one day return to his Clan and remove both his family and his people from the darkness embodied by the present Lord.
Personality
When Darius speaks, everyone listens. Why this is, he has no idea. Could be that a feeling of nobility oozes from his character, or more simply, from the fact that he speaks in a very sparse and straightforward manner. A classic Hyur of Action, he blends obvious ability with the humility of one whose seen many a Hero fall on the blade of his ego. His companions would best describe him as a ship's prow - splitting the trail for others to follow. Because of this, he is difficult to connect with, in that he is often forging ahead and thinking of what might be lurking further along on the trail. He's often misunderstood as being distant or opaque. But in reality his silence should be seen as the steadfast stillness of a committed sentry or father. His distance is borne of vigilance, and is an outgrowth of his deep and abiding love of family and Clan. That being said. He can definitely let down his guard in moments of peace with those he feels especially connected to. For him, these connections serve as the compass points of his internal life. He is fully aware that without them, he would fall prey to a kind of personal chaos. After his exile, and subsequent loss of family, Darius wandered without purpose for a period of months before he was able to formulate a plan to restore what is rightfully his. This plan led him to join with a small and intimate group of adventurers known as The Lucky Bastards. If asked why he finally decided to join a group like this, his reply would likely be, "Bastards know the value of Family. They're my kind of people." When interacting with trusted companions like these, often times those around him are taken aback by the contrast between his two persona's. On the one hand, he is quiet, serious to a flaw and slightly brooding, and on the other hand silly, free-wheeling and quick to debase himself to make other's laugh and be merry. Those close to him know both these traits stem from a very strong wellspring of love for family, Clan and compatriot.
