Ellika comes from a small township in The Fringes of Gyr Abania. She remembers little of her life there, however, having being forced to flee upon the invasion of the Garlean Empire. Most of her family, including her parents, remained behind to fight back against the invaders, and so she was left with only her aging grandparents to look after her. Having fled to Eorzea, Ellika became just one of many refugees living in the great city of Ul'dah.
At age ten, her grandfather finally passed from chronic illness that had plagued him for years, and thus it was Ellika's grandmother who has guided her through her most formative years. Her experiences growing up a refugee were much to same as most of the other Ala Mhigans who had joined her family in fleeing the bloodshed across the border: hard, to say the least. However, Ellika had always been a scrappy child, ready for a fight. With a strong moral code ingrained into her by her beloved grandmother, however, she never went looking for a fight - it was rather that fights found her. Her grandmother, not wishing Ellika to be defenseless, taught her the skills of the pugilist, having been a competent one herself decades ago. It is her grandmother's teachings as well as her own self-taught ventures that has made Ellika into the skilled fist-fighter she is today.
Having faced oppression both as a fleeing citizen from her own home, and as a derided refugee in her new one, Ellika is no stranger to hardship. Her experiences growing up are what fuels her obsessive passion for heroism today - she remembers always wishing there was someone to help her when she was a child, and now works tirelessly to become that person for others.
She is loud, boisterous, and rather oblivious. She often fails to see the nuances of situations, and acts before thinking. She is assured of her own moral righteousness, and butts into situations even when her helped is neither wanted nor needed. However - Ellika considers herself a Hero of Justice, and seeks to help all those who need it with any problem, big or small. She is positive and optimistic, believing that everyone has the capability for good and heroism within them. She is most often found patrolling the streets of Ul'dah, or the wider lands of Thanalan, looking for innocents to help and miscreants to bring to justice. She also believes in the idea that having a good public image is important to a hero, just as their actual deeds are - heroes are, after all, meant to be role models for citizens to look up to and call for help when they need it. As such, Ellika has perfected the art of the Heroic Pose, striking it up often when facing off with street thugs or vile fiends. She even has a hero name for herself: The Burne!
