ENAMBRIS ROSEN'ASH

A midlander woman who hails from "north" and refuses to elaborate further, Enambris is the leader of the Glass Network, an expansive network of monster slayers and general threat responders that address problems across Aldenard that are not, by their nature, within the purview of the Grand Companies or the Eorzean Alliance. A woman possessed of unparalleled, singular combat prowess and an excess of aether, she puts her skills to work as the foundation of the Network. Not all saviors are heroes, sometimes one saves the world because they happen to live in it.

"Those with power are often guilty of oppressing those without. Oppression ensures those powerless people never have power, and the strict imbalance of taking and never giving is never disrupted. So what do I do? I give the poor a little power. I'm the crack in the glass castle, the stone under the brick wall, the song that breaks the silence. Justice has to start somewhere, so why not start with me?"

"That power corrupts absolutely is the lie told to the powerless by the powerful to make them feel better about being powerless."

The Human Element

If there were but one word to describe her, Enambris would simply be intense. Where she had once been reserved and largely quiet, she is now particular about how she speaks, even fiery in her words. She remains slow to anger, and will often open up in the presence of friends (or when sufficiently plied with 'massive' quantities of rum). Her quiet nature is often mistaken for coldness, much to her chagrin, and has gotten her into more than one misunderstanding.
Despite her oft-closed lips, she is quick to laugh. Her sense of humor can be characterized as dry, if not downright unusual for a woman of her stature and appearance, often taking her acquaintances and companions off guard. She alludes to a childhood filled with isolation, which lends to her enjoyment of companionship and stimulating conversation. It comes as a small surprise to some in her circle that she does in fact have a sense of humor, and she is often teased about this fact.
Aside from these qualities, Enambris is known to lend her voice to the chorus of those decrying unfair treatment or abuse by the men and women in power, and takes it upon herself to see that those voices are heard. Her manner in these situations is comparable to the eerie calm before a hurricane, such that when her temper does eventually snap, her hellish wrath is later whispered about in terrified awe by those spectators fortunate enough to avoid drawing her ire.
Love, sex, and romance are concepts that are somewhat foreign to Enambris due to her secluded upbringing. Often when steered into conversations of a more sexually charged nature, she becomes flushed, flustered, and unable to effectively communicate her awkwardness. Sexual advances from strangers are outright rejected, often harshly, and those who know her well enough are rarely of a mind to make such strides with her, though rumors have begun to blossom of her with a close friend, though she denies these with a laugh. More recently she has rekindled her relationship with a lover thought dead, and has eased some of her tension with the subject.
Very little is known of Enambris' past, and she is keen to keep it that way. Earliest known records and sightings indicate that sometime around the winter months of 1567, she was taken under the care of a Barlow de Dzemael, who fashioned himself as her benefactor. She was put up in the Forgotten Knight and spent her days in the Brume, passing out blankets and food when she scraped money together to afford it by doing odd jobs where she could find them. She swears no allegiance to any of the Grand Companies, despite living in Ul'dah, and instead swears her loyalty to Ishgard. However, as the head of a major organization, she often tries to steer a course of political neutrality when dealing with matters that might carry greater impact.
Like her forefathers before her, Enambris heeds and worships the Twelve, but like her family, holds Althyk the Keeper above all else. All reverence due is paid to Halone as well.

Likeness

Enambris4.jpg
Visage: A slender woman, fair of face with large, bright silver eyes, Enambris has been frequently compared to the fairest maidens in fairy tales of old. A white scar under her right eye is only just visible against her porcelain skin. Despite her profession, Enambris bears no visible scars that would otherwise give context to her exploits, though this could be simply explained by the heavy armor she regularly sports. However, some have reported that severe bruising is seen in place of scar tissue when healing through wounds, which seems to eventually fade. Her ruby hair, difficult to contain, tends to be pulled back into a half-tamed braid.
Physique: In her canon, Enambris is rather tall for a midlander, standing at 69 ilms (or roughly 5 fulms, 9 ilms, though she is at her max height limit for the game itself). Possessed of a willowy yet athletic figure, she weighs in at roughly 125 ponze unarmored. This leanness regularly leads her opponents to underestimate her abilities, costing them very dearly. Additionally, Enambris' body is augmented slightly. Due to her infection by Gallows Glass, she was forced to undertake drastic action to stop the glass from invading her heart. As such, she also bears two powerful aether crystals: Justice, which is embedded in her sternum, and Truth, which is embedded in her heart.
Garb: Strange though it seems to many, Enambris is often mostly or fully covered, typically head to toe in armor when working or preparing for work, her white Ishgardian plate-mail polished to a mirror shine. However, her attire can vary widely, depending on time of day, active work, and general mood. Since having her armor fully repaired and after multiple attempts on her life, she has taken to wearing her armor rather frequently, but may also be spotted in a heavy pauldron coat, or thick chain mail and a padded shirt and shawl over a wide articulated plate skirt.

Pages of History

Enambris plays her past close to the vest, revealing only snippets to any who ask and quickly closing off to those who pry. While she's not ashamed of where she came from, she doesn't trust the motives of others, and has no desire to further endanger her chosen family. She's never quick to assume the worst of one's character, but she is hesitant, sparing even, with her trust.
In part due to her reserved nature, and in part due to wild rumors stemming from the information she does divulge, Enambris' past and goals are often called into question. What is known is that she was born in late winter sometime between 1550 and 1556 of the Sixth Astral Era. She never knew her father, but her mother forsook her daughter almost immediately after she was born, leaving her to be raised by her uncle, who loved her dearly.
Her childhood, adolescence and most of teenage years remain shrouded in mystery, except for the few minor details regarding her family. Sometime in 1567, her mother was killed, followed by an upheaval that would eventually lead to what Enambris calls "politically motivated relocation". She was smuggled from her bedchambers in the dead of night and sent aboard a ship, fleeing to Eorzea in the relative safety and anonymity of the pre-Calamity years.

Combat, Talents and Traits

Combat Abilities: Her primary weapons are a sword and shield pair, and while she may not always be armored, she is always armed. Her skill with a blade alone is great enough to put her on par with some of the most renowned warriors in all of Eorzea, and she's exceptionally adept at wielding aether. She's additionally proficient in martial combat with bows, a lance, spears, siege weaponry, and some Conjurer's magic, though she does intend to learn more. While her swordsmanship is unparalleled by any other ability, she has no qualms in participating in a fist fight when the occasion arises. She is also possessed of an uncanny ability to manipulate and use aether in combat, making her an intensely ferocious warrior and a challenge for anyone to fight.
Non-violent Talents: One of the most out-of-place talents she possesses is an amazing, almost other-worldly singing voice. She rarely sings for an audience, but will often hum or sing quietly when working to focus her mind and soothe her companions. More often, her singing is employed in a technique she calls 'Warsong', a music-fueled battle trance. She possesses no real skills at cooking, but is deftly capable of minor smithing and crafting protective gear.
Advantages: Her quiet nature is often to her advantage. She is often difficult to read, only enhanced by her choice in armor that leaves virtually everything to the imagination. Those few unfortunate enough to engage her often find themselves quickly on the defensive. And, while she will vehemently deny it until her dying breath, her pretty face is often an easy way to diffuse anger in exchange for shock or interest.
Disadvantages: Enambris' quiet nature can be attributed to the fact that she is blunt beyond help. Often unable to softly word her replies, she has a poor understanding of Eorzean citizenry (which is slowly improving), though she is expertly fluent in the language. This bluntness has caused more than a few fights, and often leads to rumors of her as an abrasive, unkind shrew. In more recent months, she has been practicing her phrasing, though will often disregard it, especially when drinking.

How the Clock Ticks

Informed by her interactions with others, Enambris is regularly told that she is blunt, abrasive, and even thoughtless - she often speaks her own truth, regardless of the thoughts or feelings of those around her. While in her first few years this mattered little to her, the sudden realization that her words could be as sharp as her blade (accompanied by a poor woman she accidentally made to cry) has curbed some of her harshness.
Regardless of this, she still speaks her mind freely, though now she will be soft with her words or craft her sentences carefully to avoid another incident like before. While she is somewhat daunting to approach, regularly decked out in full plate armor and helm, she is quick to leap into conversation.
Besides her abrasive nature, she is a constant champion for her cause, and will often leap at the chance to express her views on Justice and balance, and the correlation between the two. She firmly believes that mortal-kind must strive to keep a balance within and without themselves, not only with right and wrong, but with light and darkness too. Rights must be paid for wrongs, and light must be tempered by darkness; without all of these concepts, one risks falling wholly into wrong or darkness alone. She made peace with this knowledge long ago, and regularly indulges little darknesses to temper her inner light - occasional barbiturates and the ferocity of battle are her strongest vices.

RUMORS

Some of these rumors are untrue or are greatly exaggerated. Please feel free to add your own rumors under PC!

◢ Common Rumors
"She spends most of her time around Thanalan. Quiet girl, doesn't talk much. See 'er talk to folk sometimes who're shaken by some trauma or 'nother."
"I 'eard her talkin' to some giant women -- a Roe and a Highlander, 'bout somethin' they referred to as glass. Didn' make much sense ter me."
"She sells herself 'ere in the Sands, sometimes the Forgotten Knight... what? No she's not hookin'! She's a shield maiden ye prick!"
"'Er name is Enambris. From what the refugees tell, she's a runner. Hidin' from some geopolitical fallout or some such. Not many details, but I 'ear it's real sordid business."
◢ Less Common Rumors
"I heard that the urchin isn't even from Ishgard. Rumors spell that she was smuggled in by some old codger and passed off as an orphan."
"What, her? Don' bother mate, I 'eard she's cursed, don't want that followin' you around after that."
"I spotted her fighting off some inquisitors from Ishgard. Here in Ul'dah, no less! Something about void worship? Seemed off to me."
◢ Rare Rumors
"She ain't from here, s'what I heard. North, farther north even than Ishgard. Not much else to tell, though."
"I remember her, well enough. She was my patient, brought in after some battle with a hole clean through her, up in the Highlands. Healed her up in no time, but not a mark after when I managed to catch a glimpse of her dressing and taking leave. No scar, no burn, no puckering flesh. Nothing."
"What, you mean that island that used to be up north? Think it was called Lith or something, used to trade with some of the tribes up there in the Far Reach. Hm? Oh, no, Garlemald took care 'o that, sank the bloody thing."

RELATIONS

Romantic Interest     Platonic Love      Good Standing     Neutral Standing     Poor Standing
Enad Rosen'ash - Uncle, imprisoned, possibly dead
Enambris cares very deeply for her uncle. Though she speaks very little of home, she has told at least one person that she intends to free him and set things right.
Ana D'mira Rosen'ash - Mother, "deceased"
Ana D'mira, by Enambris' own admission, was rarely involved in her upbringing, but did often issue edicts to her uncle Enad about how she ought be raised, even rumored to demand that Enambris be raised far from prying eyes and without the company of other children. She died under mysterious circumstances, and Enambris rarely talks about her. More recently still, rumors have cropped up that her death may have been exaggerated. Or not quite complete.
Crion Sturmfrei - Lover, Betrothed
While she's still new to having a real relationship, Enambris and Crion's bond is an intense one, both romantically and physically. Originally hailing from House Lume of Ishgard, Crion is a wanderer who might have been a folk tale in another life.
Raphael Delarue - Close friend
One of the very few people in all of the continent of Aldenard that Enambris trusts, she's become very close with this strange Ishgardian boy, inexplicably drawn to him. Recently, she pledged her blade and loyalty to the cause he fights for.
Haleine Charbonneau - Former Friend
After some difficulties stemming from an indirect glass poisoning, Enambris no longer holds the same respect for Haleine, though she does pity him.
Belladona Slater - Sister by choice
After Eloise Daemond came to her aid when Enambris was accused of heresy and attacked in Ul'dah, she had grown rather close to Eli and cared very much for her. During a botched exorcism in which she and Eli's sister Marian attempted to separate her from the Abyssal Alyris, Eli has become Ellie, a girl with Eli's memories who they are now responsible for. Enambris cares for Ellie as a little sister, and often refers to both her and Marian as her shield-sisters.
Marian Greyashe - Sister by choice
Stepsister to Eloise Daemond and chosen family to Enambris, Marian is a knight by trade who offered to step in as Enambris personal bodyguard after Eli's inner demons took control. Since then, the two have become akin to sisters, and Enambris cares very deeply for her.
Olivia Uragshi nee Mysyrn - Sister by choice
Originally introduced after stumbling across a scuffle with the Shadow, Olivia came to the Network as an emotionally disconnected sociopath with no past or ties to anyone anywhere. She has since become very dear to Enambris, having shown immense personal growth and even taking lovers of her own and founding clan Uragshi with them.
Astra Bluestar - Close friend, kinsman
While Enambris will not elaborate on how, she and Astra share a common origin. Since meeting in Pearl Lane during a chance scuffle with a woman looking strikingly like Ana D'mira, Astra has become invaluable to the Network and to Enambris as both an ally and friend.

Glass Network

Her place at the head of the Glass Network has occupied much of Enambris' free time. Coordinating, managing resources, and generally acting as the head and face of the Network as a whole, she rarely has time for anything else.

Protection

While her skill with a blade is widely regarded as among the best in the land, her ability to defend those who need it most is unquestionable. She offers this protection to any who seek it, from the poor and homeless of Ul'dah, the downcast of the Brume, the refugees of Ala Mhigo and Doma, or those being terrorized by their oppressors on high. While she is no longer a sellsword, she will still leap to the defense of those who need it whenever she is asked.

Charity Work

There is a lot of work she does that she doesn't receive compensation for, and Enambris is perfectly fine with that. During the coldest of days or the worst of the seasons, she will make her way through the Brume, the slums, and Little Ala Mhigo, handing out food and blankets with what little money she is able to collect and spare for the cause. She also assists some of the high houses in Ishgard in their own charitable works.
When she is actively engaged in Charity work, Enambris will remove all of her armor, save her blade, but will cover her hair and face.

Guardianship

When Enambris needs to blow off steam, rather than indulging in random sex or fighting in alleys, she will offer herself as a guardian. Mainly, these activities are short-term duration and high-intensity, but often yield the greatest reward to her: the intense heat of battle. While she does typically maintain the focus of the quarry, it is rare that she will actually do any of the slaying.

This is mainly my way of explaining an IC reason for dungeons and trials.

Payment

Perhaps one of her most admirable (or naïve) qualities is that she will only take payment from those who have enough to spare it. She will generally refuse payment from the homeless, those in the Brume, or the refugees from Doma and Ala Mhigo, though there are sometimes those who insist on paying her.
When offering guardianship, working for someone whose cause is just, or other employments besides charitable works, she will often collect payment in either favors or supplies that can be provided back to the Network.

Ripped From the Headlines...

Enambris is the head of a large-spanning organization called the Glass Network. Composed of parties from all political and social walks of life, she coordinates and leads various missions to end or subvert threats to the public. Often the Network is openly recruiting, and rarely rejects any who wish to aid in keeping the world relatively safe from earth-shattering threats.
Faced with the threat of a gallows glass plague, Enambris stumbled into the founding of the Glass Network, a group dedicated to collecting gallows glass, destroying it, stopping distribution, and dealing with victims. Since its founding, she has come under additional attempts of harm and has been followed and attacked on several occasions in both Ul'dah and Ishgard.
Publicly accused of heresy by a pair of Inquisitors far from Ishgard, Enambris was forced to demand trial by combat while spending some time in the Quick Sand. A knight by the name of Eloise came to her aid in fighting the pair, and she was successful in her trial.
Finally learning the nature of the weapon that had stabbed her, Enambris realized she'd been infected with Gallows Glass. In a race against time, she and a group of soldiers delved into The Coil and retrieved a pair of very powerful aether crystals, both of which were implanted into her chest to stop the glass from reaching her heart.

Public Knowledge

Enambris is the leader of the Glass Network, a group dedicated to eradicating Gallows Glass. As such, she is often in the company of other network members, and her place as leader has put her in harm's way on several occasions.
Having lived in Ishgard for many years, her face is known to those who frequent the Brume, and any who regularly attended Trials for those accused of Heresy. She was accused of heresy three times in the span of five years by the same specific Inquisitor.
Enambris is active in the charitable works scenes of both Ul'dah and Ishgard, particularly in the refugee camps and the Brume.
She spends time between jobs at the Forgotten Knight, but more frequently at the Quick Sand, typically drinking away the day's work.
While she keeps mostly to herself, she's not completely unknown, and the refugees are usually quick to remember her name.
She's become known as a trouble-maker by the Brass Blades, who are leery around her for inspiring a very vocal protest by Ala Mhigan and Doman refugees.
Because of her augmentations, Enambris has a difficult time getting drunk, but becomes much more conversational after a bottle or two of rum, and is not against dabbling in other substances that can make her forget.
She has a very vocal disdain for Garleans, Garlean soldiers, and Garlean sympathizers and is never afraid to say so, but also has a sort of kinship with Garlean defectors and ex-patriots.
While her services are offered primarily to those who cannot defend themselves, Enambris will work with nearly anyone against whom she bears no ill will.
Stories from refugees of an armored maiden defending them from oppressors have been circling Ul'dah's Refugee camps and The Brume of Ishgard.
Assorted pub brawls have stemmed from Enambris' inability to cushion her words. While she's better about it now, for some time she had a bad reputation in the Drowning Wench of being something of a troublemaker.

RP Style

Medium-Heavy
I look for RP that's very story-intensive and interaction heavy. The stories I like to join or participate in are usually either short steps in a longer path, or character/world building interactions that help define all parties involved. More than anything, I'm looking for stories and plots that make sense for the character. Pushing the romance angle without any character-based need (or purely to satisfy a need OOC) is weird and besides being uncomfortable, makes for a bad story.

Hours of Operation

I'm online pretty regularly, usually between 6:30pm and 11:30pm EST during the week and variable, frequent hours during the weekends. I'm generally in-character most of the time I'm logged in, short of being inside instances.

Contacting Me

Don't hesitate to reach out to me! I'm pretty open and flexible about jumping into and out of stories, and I'm always game for some walk-up or planned plots. Send me a /tell, mail me in-game, add me as a friend!
You can also message me on the site, message me on Steam (Twistedarcana), or shoot me an email or message on Hangouts at [email protected]
