Hakucho no Izayoi t h e b u t c h e r   CHARACTER DESCRIPTION Formerly an Othardian bandit of some infamy, Izayoi left behind the carefree life of villainy and robbery to raise a young daughter with her husband, a former checkpoint officer. Known across Doma as Izayoi the Butcher, she faded from view some twenty years ago - to the general populace, it would seem as if she died without fanfare or ceremony. In truth, the auri woman retreated to a remote mountain shrine, and took up the role of it's priestess - guardian of the demons sealed within and heiress to the Saionji art of sealing. Here she thought she would remain...until the fateful failed uprising of Doma against the Garlean Empire. With her nation burning around her, Izayoi sent her daughter to the only place she thought to be safe - Eorzea. Little did she know that those she entrusted with the care of her child would betray her, and leave the priestess and her husband behind; to burn with the rest of their nation. Izayoi did not burn. In fact, she began a trek across the face of Hydaelyn, hunting those who had wronged her and taken her family from her. She has arrived now in Eorzea, a transplant from a faraway home, in a new realm full of opportunity and responsibility. Here, her past does not linger over her like a pallid cloud - in Eorzea, perhaps Izayoi can become someone new. Only time will tell which road the raen shall travel, but one thing is certain; whatever path she walks, she shall never be the same again. Izayoi was born not as a Saionji, but as Tachibana no Izayoi, the heiress apparent to the Tachibana shrine, deep in the mountains of Othard. Her natural talents for conjury and aethersense made her a obvious fit for the role of Priestess...but her attitude proved to be the sticking point. Even at a young age, Izayoi constantly rebelled against the wishes of her parents and family. She didn't want to be a priestess, in fact, she wanted to be just about anything else! With the shrine in declined, her parents wouldn't hear of it - even after her younger sister was born. Despite their best efforts, Izayoi wouldn't stick around for long. She had her own plans about her life, and they didn't involve staying cloistered in the mountains until she grew old. Just a few moons after her fourteenth nameday, Izayoi fled the shrine, descending from the mountains the Tachibana called home and out into Othard as a whole... ▼ THE BUTCHER Roaming the steppes and plains of Othard would be difficult to do alone even as an adult, so the young Izayoi quickly found herself in dire need of assistance in her travels. As luck would have it, a band of roving bandits chose to raid a village where she was staying for the evening. Having no coin on her, Izayoi had been stowing away in inns and barns whenever she could, avoiding paying her way across her travels. This eve, the bandits saved her the trouble of having to explain herself - the innkeeper found her just as the warning alarms started up. Taking advantage of the situation, Izayoi sided with the bandits, stealing away into the night with spoils aplenty and a new 'family'. From here, she would spend nearly twelve years roaming the Othardian wilds, earning her keep first as a thief, then as a bandit proper once her skills with an axe developed. She began to garner an infamous reputation as Izayoi the Butcher, a feared figure wielding a massive two-headed war axe. She had found the freedom she was searching for when she was young - Izayoi did what she wanted, took what she wanted, and lived free of the responsibility she had run from. As she grew older, and her name spread further, Izayoi found herself working for various bandit groups and occasionally coming into conflict with the empire of Garlemald, stealing magitek and armor from castri to resell or wield. But nothing good lasts forever. At twenty-one, roughly halfway through her bandit career, Izayoi and her ill-fated bandit gang attempted to breach a Garlean checkpoint at night. What they didn't know was the fact that the checkpoint was ready for them. With over half their number dead, the rest (Izayoi included) surrendered, and were arrested. It was here that she met the man she would later marry, Tahei. Select the text to reveal it. ▼ MAJOR ■ AXE WIELDING - Izayoi's preferred weapons are axes of all shapes and sizes; most commonly she uses a large dual-headed war axe and a smaller long-hafted hatchet. With around three decades of training beneath her belt, Izayoi is a formidable foe when she can get her hands on one of these tools - she earned her name of the Butcher with them, after all. ■ HAND-TO-HAND - The life of a bandit isn't always the most comfortable one - Izayoi's learned how to defend herself with nothing more than her fists, feet and tail at her disposal. Life in the rural mountains of Othard means that one has to be read to defend one's life and property at all times - armed or not. ■ OTHARDIAN COOKING - After her settling down, Izayoi was too ill to regularly engage in hunting and survival skills, leaving that instead to her young daughter and husband. She instead would prepare the meals they brought home, giving her several decades of training and talent at cooking homemade meals. ■ HORSEBACK RIDING - As only Eorzea has a large population of chocobos (or horsebirds, if you will), Izayoi and her band would often use horses in their acts of banditry. Years of doing so has given her a deep well of skill in the art of horseback combat, from using axes to guns atop her mounts of choice. ▼ MINOR ■ SWORD FIGHTING - Izayoi is decent, but not stellar, at combat with a sword. Given that most of her years have been spent with the heavier and differently balanced axe, she is sloppy and awkward with most blades. While she can certainly kill unskilled opponents, anyone with a decent amount of training can fight literal circles around her. ■ MARKSMANSHIP - FIREARMS - Routinely raiding Garlean castri during her years as a bandit exposed her to a variety of firearms. The routine stealing and usage of these has imparted on her a basic understanding of their function and upkeep. While by no means an ace shot, Izayoi is comfortable around guns and usually has one around. ■ SAIONJI SEALING - As the former shrinekeeper of the Saionji Shrine, Izayoi has a decent well of knowledge of the Saionji style of demon-sealing. While her illness prevents her from making use of these techniques, she can adequately instruct those curious in at least the basics. ■[🔒] ??? TACHIBANA SLAYING - Despite her training being mostly incomplete, Izayoi does retain a small amount of what she was training for at a young age. While nowhere near comprehensive enough for her to train someone, she can use those few remembered techniques to be a deadly foe to all voidsent. ▼ POOR ■ CONJURY - Izayoi has little to no talent for conjury. She and the spirits which lend their strength seem almost diametrically opposed, and she cannot muster the fine maniuplation of aether to cast even the most basic of healing spells. ■ PUBLIC RELATIONS - The name Izayoi the Butcher isn't one looked fondly upon by those that remember it in Othard. At a young age, Yurei was trained to take over for her mother as the priestess of the Saionji shrine, quickly becoming a talented conjurer and practitioner of the Saionji art of sealing. Yurei took over for Izayoi when she came of age, hunting alongside her father Tahei for voidsent and ashkin throughout the forested mountain region they called home. When Garlemald crushed the Doman rebellion, Izayoi sent her daughter away to Eorzea, where she remains to this day, working alongside the Order of the Twin Adder and the Seedseers of Gridania. Saionji no Tahei ─ Husband (ALIVE) SUMMARY: Originally a checkpoint guard, Tahei met Izayoi while she was imprisoned for attempting to breach the checkpoint he worked at. The man had found himself on the opposite end of a rivalry with a fellow guard, one that could only end in an honorable duel. Unconvinced of his ability to win, he did the unthinkable and had Izayoi train him while imprisoned. During this, he fell madly in love with her, and after the duel, broke her out and fled. The two of them would go on to become a terror to the Othardian region - vanishing twenty years ago into obscurity. Chanana Chana ─ san (ALIVE) SUMMARY: The diminutive lalafell and Izayoi have had an interesting relationship since the day they met. The two of them share a unique bond, both being older than many of their contemporaries. They work together quite often, on several projects that neither of them are very vocal about. The auri woman has extended her trust to the little lalafell, and can often be seen sharing a drink and a tale about her homeland with Chanana. One might consider them thicker than thieves, and Hakucho is quite fiercely protective of her new friend. Expand Neutral, Colleagues & Acquaintances Lancelaux Fiermont ─ san (ALIVE) SUMMARY: The man whose organization rescued her daughter from the clutches of the Tatsu-kai. Izayoi feels she owes the elezen, and by proxy his gang, a debt of honor, one she is dedicated to repay. While she and he might not exactly trust each other, they've decided to give each other the benefit of the doubt. Izayoi rests assured that Lance and his crew can hold their own against whomever may be following her, be that the Tatsu-kai...or something more sinister in the shadows. Red Duck ─ san (ALIVE) SUMMARY: The mighty roegadyn Rhotaent and Izayoi have worked together on several occasions, many of which have fallen under the auspices of the Black Chocobo Gang. While they've not shared much outside of their brief interactions, Red Duck seems to be a potential source of income and amusement for many suns to come. Izayoi hopes to see the man in real combat someday, having seen few roegadyn due to her Othardian heritage. Tsuwamono no Soleil ─ chan (ALIVE) SUMMARY: Having met through mutual acquaintance Madison Allard, Izayoi and Soleil have spoken on numerous occasions since. The older auri woman considers Soleil to be a good friend, and is quite happy to lend a horn to listen or a shoulder to lean on, if necessary. Izayoi's not quite sure what to make of her and Madison's interactions, but she keeps a watchful eye out for Soleil none-the-less, acting in the role of guardian and friend. Expand Negative, Foes & Rivals Tachibana no Tamaki ─ ??? (ALIVE) SUMMARY: The situation between Izayoi and Tamaki is complicated to say the least. Izayoi has little to no desire to shed any further light upon it, and the very mention of the name Tamaki does seem to be one of very few things that get underneath her generally cool composure. Whosoever Tamaki may be to Izayoi, it's crystal clear to anyone that stumbles upon it that the auri woman would much rather forget all about it. Jirou ─ Imperial Shadow (ALIVE) SUMMARY: In her years as a bandit, Izayoi clashed with Garlean occupiers just as often as she did battle with native Othardians. On many such occasions, she and her band of miscreants would run afoul of shinobi who had turned their backs on Doma, those who had become Imperial Shadows. Jirou was one such man - a rather glamorous soul who took to the cushy life of spy and assassin with ease. Izayoi and Jirou have each taken numerous shots at the others' life, but neither have managed to deal the killing blow....yet. Jirou knows she was recently seen in the region of Gyr Abania...how long it will take him to track her down is anyone's guess.
