Introduction
Heavenly Marigold is a professional adventurer and scholar who specializes in magical research, especially with regard to the lost mystical lore of bygone cultures. She and her small company of fellow adventurers, the Crystal Coeurls, are based out of Limsa Lominsa but are often drawn to the far reaches of Eorzea for work, research, and other business.
Personality
Marigold is a highly intelligent and educated woman who, despite her often intimidating size and air, is generally kind and warm hearted. She loves reading, magic, music, and good food, and is an avid collector of books and relics. Though a serious minded individual she has a streak of impishness about her and a humorous wit that can quickly turn to a razor edge to those who earn her ire. She enjoys helping others, but becomes quickly frustrated with those who do not put in effort to help themselves in turn.
History
Upbringing
Heavenly Marigold is the daughter of an Ul'dahn mercenary, Stalwart Oak, who settled down with a Lominsan tradeswoman, Sky Ruby, at the end of a career as a sellsword. Together the two made a business of a small town inn and shop on the coasts of La Noscea. The pair settled in to have two children, their eldest daughter Heavenly Marigold and her younger brother Verdant Mountain, born a number of years afterwards. Life was fairly uneventful for the family and, with her adulthood approaching and local tutors exhausted, Marigold eventually left the small coastal life to begin her education at the Arcanist's Guild in Limsa Lominsa. There she thrived in the academic environment, gaining knowledge and power as an Arcanist over years of study, and participating in the family tradition of mercenary work on the side to ease her financial burdens until she graduated from the Guild as a fully fledged Arcanist. Marigold remained with the Guild to further study and research until the onset of the war with Garlemald.
The Garlean War
During the war between the Eorzean Alliance and Garlemald Heavenly Marigold, like many fellow Arcanists, served as a battlefield support in the war effort. Though she gained no exceptional notoriety in this service, she maintains contacts with and rank within the Maelstrom to this day. When the war ended with the release of Bahamut and the widespread devastation across Eorzea, the small village on the coast that was once her family home was counted among the losses. Grief stricken, Marigold removed herself from service with both the Guild and the Maelstrom to come to terms with her loss and the rank devastation of Eorzea.
Rebuilding
For some time Marigold traveled about aimlessly doing adventurer's work among the communities coming to grips with their own losses, using her knowledge to grant succor to the wounded and inflict ruin upon those that preyed upon them. Over time the work helped soothe her own wounds, helping her come to terms with the loss of her family and friends back home. After a great deal of internal struggle regarding her own path and a series of strange dreams which she rarely speaks of, Marigold returned to her work as a researcher with newfound vigor. Convinced that the best way to for her to combat the growing conflicts to Eorzea lay in the Arcane, Marigold has dedicated years in researching all varieties of magic, ancient and new, to prepare herself and others for the conflicts to come.
The Crystal Coeurls
Following an invasion of her personal library in which a number of rare and valuable Tomestones were stolen, Marigold enlisted the aid of a small number of accomplished adventurers in order to track down the perpetrators of the crime and reclaim her work. Dubbing this loose association of adventurers the 'Crystal Coeurls', the group set about tracking down the thieves. Tracing the theft to the Empire, the group assailed a number of outposts before catching up to the Tomestones before they could leave Eorzea. Following this the group has kept loose ties, coming together to act on requests or information provided to them by various sources for profit and the greater good.
