Character

"Dear _____, I've met you once before..."

First Impressions

White paint made of a hunted kedtrap and powder. Turn to her left, and you will see that she has cut a portion of her hair- her destiny. Her face is softened with youth, searching seen in her hazel eyes. Her voice is soft, as if mixing itself into the wind.
You hear it. She is alone.

Appearance

Standing at 5"3, the Hyuran woman stands tall in open spaces. White paint, made of Kedtrap serum mixed with powder, marks her face and she wears it with pride, a lasting memory of her home colony. Her softened chocolate eyes are filled with resolve as her fair skin glows lightly beneath the moonlight. Her lips are a light peach, soft with a rather light gloss.
Her long raven hair falls to one side, cut on the other. With resolve, Itsu had cut her hair following a failed attempt to kill who is now her chocobo, Qin'jirah, during their first encounter as per required by her In'uljah trial. As a sign of her bond with her bird, on her head she often wears a chocobo feather: the fallen feather from her bird's first molting.

Personality

Perhaps her upbringing in Gridania was a better environment; she is very attuned to wind aether, therefore will spend as much time as she can outdoors. She gets rather unsettled indoors, especially rooms with limited space and/or without windows. "I cannot feel the wind here" is not an uncommon utterance from her mouth. She feels most at ease in wide, open outdoor spaces such as The Black Shroud.
The girl is also rather shy, quiet at first. Around people she does not know, she prefers to speak very little. Much like a wallflower, she would much rather observe than speak. However, take a chance to approach her and she will be very interested in those she converses with. Itsu will speak primarily when spoken to, however as she begins to ease herself into circumstances, she will talk more than one would think. In Gridania (or anywhere in the Black Shroud, really), Itsu is known to be more sociable, as she is familiar with some of the locals. She is especially chatty with chocobokeep, whom she has known since her first steps into the city. In time-sensitive situations, Itsu is known for making clear that she is a Hearer. Normally Itsu would enjoy speaking about her home, Darjin, however given her missing home colony, she has spoken very little about it as of late.
Darjinian stubbornness runs strong in her blood. When fixated on a task or mission, Itsu is known to run off on her own, end goal in mind. Having grown up hunting with her family, Itsu will prioritize healing others with her should she not be fixated on protecting a single person. Issues regarding Darjin and the Black Shroud that seem dire will see Itsu separating from the group, and as a result may invoke the doubts and frustrations of her party. These issues may or may not be exaggerated by Itsu's worrisome nature, and so she will come to hasty decisions.
Solace is found in caring for others. Itsu will always be vocal about the well-being of others, to the point where she is more or less like her mother. Her wife, Yumi Hikaru, is a victim to the girl's constant nagging. Itsu is very, very, very vocal about Yumi's safety, to the point where she will be angered if her warnings are left unheard. If you ask her about the time she fell down a mine shaft literally seconds after telling Yumi to be careful you will probably evoke an extremely rare, dark piercing glare from the gentle girl. Her wife is no exception to this.
The Hyuran girl will also care for others, whether she shows it or not. This is especially for those whom have earned her wife's trust, who then receive a lesser barrage of "Please be careful" or "You don't make healing very easy, do you?". It is also known that Itsu will be very vocal and defensive if she notices Yumi is upset, quickly distrusting whoever angers/provokes her wife.

Wind

Itsu has a rather high aetherical sensitivity, having trained and lived in Gridania. She has been recognized as a Conjurer who is a Hearer of the elementals of the Twelveswood. While she cannot hear the will of the elementals outside of The Black Shroud, she still tries to listen to the "feelings" of the elements around her. In particular, she is especially fond of observing wind patterns, shown in her preference for wide, open spaces. The girl will attempt to read feelings (ex. harsh, distressed winds as "unhappy") of the wind around her.

Speech

Itsu is bilingual, fluent in both Eorzean and Darjinian. Refer to Language for info on Darjinian language.

Triggers

Brayflox's Longstop - The run down houses of the Longstop materializes Itsu's very fear: the possibility that her entire society has been slaughtered. As the huts are similar to the structures used in Darjin pre-Calamity, Itsu finds the place unnervingly similar to her now-lost home. While she has a quiet personality, she will begin to panic at the thought of her village destroyed in a similar fashion to the Longstop. It is noted during her first meeting with Xai Hikaru that if provoked enough, she will let her repressed emotions leak through, invoking sadistic tendencies.

Location: Just outside Quarrymill
Element: Wind
Colour: Peach-pink
Animal: Chocobo
Food: Pastry fish
Drink: Buffalo Milk

Relationships

"Our fates are intertwined..."

Lover

Yumi Hikaru: Her significant other. Itsu will constantly nag Yumi to be careful, though often disregarded. Around others, Itsu and Yumi are not very affectionate, saved for private chamber. Though not always spoken, Itsu has noticed Yumi's tendencies and will act accordingly. The girl has dedicated her current healing career to keeping her wife alive.

Family

Xa’in Neir: Missing mother. Xa'in is the daughter of one of Consult of Darjin. She is also a Conjurer, studied during her In'uljah in Gridania. Her mother taught Itsu how to paint when she was younger. She was also Itsu's Depakka instructor. She gave Itsu the name Dandelion.
Kibotosek Neir: Missing father. He was born in Gridania and studied both Archery and Lancing, primarily teaching the latter to the older brother, Jikun. He had followed Xa'in of his own free will and assimilated into the Darjinian colony. He has a fondness for chocobos that he shares with Itsu. He was Jikun's Depakka instructor.
Jikun Neir: Brother (currently on In'uljah). He is 3 years her senior. The siblings were extremely close when they were younger, often inseparable. Jikun taught her to make spears, a skill that saved her during her Depakka. He left for his In'uljah at the age of 12 and has not been seen since.
Chocobo: Qin'jirah (Piidii)
Darlin Tchyarun: Deceased maternal grandmother. Previously a Consult of Darjin.

Friends

Iris Blanchimont: Free Company colleague. Iris had confided her trust in Itsu and Yumi. To reciprocate this trust, Itsu has sworn to protect her in return. The girl sees Iris to be a vast source of knowledge, and is always fascinated with her thorough explanations.
Zinot Risus: Met at Void Ark, formally acquainted at Free Company. First impressions were terrible as he provoked Yumi's anger, however following the events at the Invisible City, she has seen him in better light, namely because he helped keep Yumi safe. Though she dislikes his stubborn attitude, she trusts her baby chocobos around him under her supervision. She, as with all good friends, nags him to be careful. Itsu oversees Zinot raising his chocobo, Gris.
Lyauna Jihn: The miqote from the other world. Itsu finds her interesting, especially since they share a common want to return home. She has a curiousity for the miqote's other world, and an even greater curiousity for her bottomless stomach.
Mizu: The result of a human/succubus experiment, but lovable nonetheless. Itsu used to see her whenever her handlers gathered at the estate, and now sees her whenever walking around the Arche Koeln estate. She's impressed by her quick learning, especially at rolling croissant dough. Itsu had once attempted to heal a burn, however was unable to do so due to her unique vital structure.

Employers

Deleia: An honest, warm and loving chocobo nursery keep and grandmother. Descended from Sharlayan, she has taken up residence in her son's estate and apartment, both of which have been entrusted to her. She runs a chocobo nursery out of the estate, employing Itsu as her extra help. She loves to brag about her children. She currently has a student living with her named Alphrasis Wellamine.
Alphrasis Wellamine: Often shortened to Alphra. She is the daughter to Sharlayan parents, however has left to study with Deleia, only to discover she has retired to run a nursery. She remains humble and is Deleia's caretaker, making market trips constantly. Itsu sees her as uptight, passionate about learning, and afraid of chocobos.

Acquaintances

Taji Tribal: Formally met at Free Company post-Void Ark. She currently knows her as the Mi'qote who danced so hard she fell through the Mist docks. She seems trustworthy.
J'yhun Arun: J'yhun once read her and her partners' cards at a Valentione event at the estate. She seems to like him a little: he offered potions that would supposedly help her and her wife conceive children. Nothing shady here at all.
Shou Han: Met at Arche Koeln before departing, doesn't know her quite well.
Jiro Kichi: Met at Arche Koeln one night. She finds him very eccentric, however does not know much else.
Delkan Lenoxx: Met at the Arche Koeln estate. Itsu knows nothing of him other than he is a new member of the Free Company.
Kairi Kawanami: A mercenary briefly met.
Arakawa Fushida: A man from the Far East. Curious about this foreign land, Itsu is fascinated with the motifs of his apparel.
Yumiko Shimousu: An Au'ra conjurer. Itsu has entrusted the party to Yumiko for healing in her stead. Though uncharacteristic (especially since Yumi is left in someone else's care), the girl is aware that Yumiko is a member of Arche Koeln and has trained at the Conjurer's Guild in Gridania. Itsu is satisfied that the girl understands her duty as a healer of the Stillglade Fane, however wonders why she is so shy and sometimes frightful.
Kazuya Ayogai: Another Paladin. Itsu knows very little of them, other than a past in which voidsent have killed his accomplices.
Lizette Amitsu: A rather jumpy, frightful lalafell that even Itsu would classify as a klutz.

Enemies

Xai Hikaru: Met at Brayflox's Longstop. Yumi's Brother. Normally Itsu would think higher of him simply because he is her wife's brother, however tensions and arguments from their last encounter have left a sour taste in her mouth.

History

"There once was a place I used to know..."

Darjin

Darjin. A once small colony located in what is now called The Burning Wall. Those in poverty and the working class determined to escape the social confines of Uldah learned the ways of survival. The elders sought to keep its generations in secret, spared the harsh ways of the Thanalan rich and, even more, the dying. Stolen food and stocked belongings lasted the community for a year, a time that saw much turmoil and unrest among the group, despite sponsorship from certain upper class families. However, the late Pipili Pilu took upon herself leadership within the colony and established the colony's laws with a band of consultants chosen from both homeless and working class. As a precaution for future survival, the Depakka and In'uljah trials were introduced for children born into the colony. Darjin was kept secret from outsiders via fear of nearby Amalj'aa, an agreement with the nearby Qiqirn camp, and sentries that would kill invaders or those fleeing from Darjin on site.
Nothing is known of what happened to the colony following The Calamity, however only remnants and painful memories are left behind. Now littered with pieces of Dalamud, what was once Darjin is now infested with Mirrorknights.
Aside from Eorzean, citizens are able to speak "Darjinian" (Al Bhed) as one In'uljah participant returned with books on foreign language.

Depakka

The Depakka is the Darjin children's first hunt at the age of 6. The duration of a Depakka lasts 24 hours. Each child hunts a monster in Eastern Thanalan while under the supervision of their assigned hunting instructor, usually a parent or a person who has returned from their In'uljah without a chocobo foot. Females hunt one month before the males as they begin their hunting training earlier. After a successful hunt, candidates and their supervisors return to the colony with a bottle of blood or serum. After both females and males have hunted, they are all marked at the Blood Marking Ceremony, in which children's faces are painted with a mixture of powder and the collected blood by their instructors. The adults pick the colour of the markings, each colour marking a blessing or fortune that they have for their student.
Those who are unable to complete their hunt are abandoned in the wilderness.

In'uljah

The In'uljah is a coming of age ceremony set in place by the late Pipilu Pilu and her consultants shortly after the establishment of Darjin. At the young age of 12, children are exiled from the colony, required to survive in the wilderness on their own. They are required to bring treasures from the world back to the colony, artifacts to provide education for those preparing for the Depakka hunt. One of these required treasures is a chocobo foot, which will then be hung above the family's home to indicate to the rest of the colony that a son/daughter who is ready to be wed has returned safely from their In'uljah trial. Common practice is one who returns without a foot becomes a hunting instructor for Depakka candidates and is not allowed to marry. A person's In'uljah requires a minimum of 3 years in exile, and the longest trial is documented at 20 years.

It is prohibited to mention Darjin to outsiders. Those who have done so were either permanently removed from the society or killed on sight It is possible for outsiders to assimilate into Darjinian colony: they are to reside with the colony for 5 years, and must be wed to a native. They accept that they would be slain upon trying to abandon the society.

Language

As a native, Itsu is bilingual, fluent in both Eorzean and Darjinian. The latter is Al Bhed, used in Final Fantasy X. As Darjin culture is based on artifacts from the outside world who have returned to the isolated village, it is assumed that Al Bhed (though it may not be named that) was learned through a collection of books brought back by a scholar from a distant land. It was adopted as the village's second language and is taught as a subject by Darjinian teachers. It is common for In'uljah exiles to communicate with each other in Darjinian when they are not near outsiders.

Itsu

Itsu was born to the missing Xa'in (née Tchyarun) and Kibotosek Neir, and is the sister of Jikun Neir, brother that is 3 years her senior. A fair majority of Darjin knew of her: she was the granddaughter of Darlin Tchyarun, a member of the Consult of Darjin. Within her family, Itsu was often nicknamed Dandelion, after the flower that blooms white air-borne seeds.

Darjin Life

Family
She has fond memories of her brother, Jikun, who had taught her to make stone spears following his Depakka hunt. The two were almost never found without one another. When preparing for her own hunt, Itsu had spent countless nights staying up late with her brother, confiding in him her anxiety that she would disappoint their mother, her hunting supervisor. Her would often tell her stories of what he thought chocobos looked like to cheer her up before the two of them fell asleep. At the end of his Depakka, Jikun gives the stone head of his hunting spear to his sister, tied to a string, as a sign of good luck. The only time anyone had seen Itsu cry was when Jikun departed for his In'uljah. Ever since, she has been a quiet individual.
It is noted that Itsu, as well as her father, have killed those fleeing from Darjin in her younger years.
Depakka
Itsu had chosen the wooden staff as her choice of hunting weapon. Her hunting instructor was her mother, Xa'in Neir, who had also studied to become a conjurer in Gridania during her own In'uljah. Itsu had stumbled her victim Kedtrap after losing sight of her mother late at night. The young girl had tripped over the Kedtrap's root, already panicked at the thought of not completing her hunt. She ran beside a nearby tree, chased at high speeds. With quick thinking while in hiding, she tied her brother's spearhead onto the bottom of her staff. The Kedtrap was slain as her mother had relocated her.
Xa'in chose to paint her daughter's face white, the colour that represented Safety.
In'uljah
Itsu had departed on her In'uljah with nothing but her mother's smile and her father's embrace. Her memento spearhead had been left behind, hung on her family's heirloom wall. She departed for the trial in the year 1570. She failed to obtain a chocobo foot; the same bird she had nearly killed is her current partner. She is currently not permitted to return to Darjin as she has also mentioned the society to outsiders.

Calamity/Post-Calamity

The Disappearance of Darjin
Even to this day, Itsu does not know what has become of her home, Darjin. During the calamity, Itsu had hid in Gridania, already under the instruction of E-Sumi-Yan at the Stillglade Fane. With the Padjal's permission, she had taken a momentary leave from her studies to venture back to Darjin following the Battle of Carteneau and the destruction of Bahamut. Upon returning to the cove, she found countless shards of Dalamud littering her home. She could not make out much of the debris, however no bodies were found. Itsu is continuously on a search for her people.
Qin'jirah (Piidii)
Once night, a year following the start of her In'uljah trial, Itsu had encountered a traveling merchant, resting with his chocobo. The girl had lured the chocobo away from its owner in hopes of capturing it to claim its foot. However, Itsu quickly reconsidered her actions, realizing that this bird was genuinely terrified. Noticing the look in the bird's eyes, she left a shallow scratch in its beak before abandoning it out of shame.
Years later, during her studies in Gridania, she was offered a chocobo by the Twin Adders following a series of tasks she had done for the Grand Company. Itsu quickly noticed the scratch on the beak of the chocobo introduced to her. Though they had a rocky start, Itsu and her chocobo have developed a close relationship with each other. She is often seen wearing one of her bird's molted feathers in her hair.
The chocobo's name is Qin'jirah, the name of the imaginary chocobo in young Jikun's bedtime stories. However, Itsu often calls the bird Piidii as a nickname.

"And so they whisper sweetly..."

♦ "She didn't know what a Summoning Bell was until recently..." - Unnamed Free Company estate employee.

♦ "Oh, well, she is one of my very dear friends and gets on quite well with Garuda-egi and Elsumus. She also seems to have some innate understanding of winds that piques my curiosity. I find her to be a remarkable judge of character as well!" -- Iris Blanchimont

OOC Information

First off, I'm really glad to meet you! You can call me either Itsu or Tear, I'll respond to either name! I personally prefer non-combat/everyday roleplay, however, I'm very open to weaning into heavier/combat RP. I'm also interested in joining campaigns or playing as an NPC. When in doubt, give me a heads up OOC and I'll let you know if I think I can handle it! I'm available through Skype and LINE, available upon request.
