Character

"It's called a hustle, sweetheart."

First Impressions

He knows how to flash a winning smile. His long hair is nearly tied back, and blue paint is lathered across his face in a cross-like fashion. His golden eyes attempt to piece into your soul. If you were not terrified of the multitude of scars that run along his fair skin, he could probably be your hunk of a boyfriend. Except he's not. But you aren't money, and therefore he isn't interested in you.

Appearance

6"1 and basically a walking museum of scars, past his damaged shell Jikun is a heartthrob. He stands all, fair skinned from working outdoors. His body is littered with scars and permanent damage from rabid and hostile chocobos that have attacked him ever since he was broken into the chocobo underground trade. His muscular face is painted with a blue paint, shaped in an X-formation, that was painted upon him by his father at the time of his Depakka, his golden eyes piercing past the paint. His long black hair is tied up in a pony tail, strands dyed blue from when he was younger. Under moonlight, he could easily be mistaken for a murderer.

Personality

Only the best was good enough. From birth, Jikun has always had high expectations placed upon him, and in turn, he aimed for only the best. Goals that were once a seat on the Darjin Consult and a family with his little sister's best friend quickly turned into desire for the finest foods, finest drinks, alcohol, and of course, prestigious company following his departure for his In'uljah trial. That came as no surprise from a young boy who had never interacted with any society other than Darjin: there was a big world out there and he wanted to be part of it. From humble beginnings, this man has certainly learned to indulge himself.
Two-faced would probably be an accurate description of Jikun. As he was educated by Dallenaux de Grandeur, he was raised to know how to act among those of the higher houses of Ishgard, quickly learning how to sport a winning smile. Just as he did in Darjin, he knows how to swoon the ladies: a confident smile that oozed he was well-off, and a lilting voice that could draw in even the toughest of business contacts. The catch, however, is that Jikun could literally care less about those around him that did not contribute to his personal funds. Money was money, and he wanted all of it. Jikun will try to swoon those around him with words of encouragement and allowed remnants of his big-brother attitude to seep though, however that is for nothing more than trying to find vulnerabilities. He enjoys exposing the darkest secrets of those around him, keeping them in mind for the next time he needs somebody to manipulate.
Though he refuses to let anybody see a sincere part of him, Jikun will occasionally let the gentler parts of him seep through. Jikun still has a very strong affection for his sister, Itsu, and thoughts of her will lessen the walls he has placed around him. Plastered smiles become genuine and one could swear his boastful voice becomes soft. He finds himself often thinking of her when he is not with others.

Family

Xa’in Neir: Missing mother. Xa'in was the daughter of one of Consult of Darjin. She was a Conjurer, studied during her In'uljah in Gridania. She was his sister's Depakka instructor. Jikun was constantly doted upon by his mother.
Kibotosek Neir: Missing father. Kibotosek studied both Archery and Lancing, the latter taught to the boy. He was Jikun's Depakka instructor. He had a fondness for chocobos.
Itsu Neir: Young sister, currently on In'uljah. She is 3 years his junior. To this day, Jikun still loves his sister very much. They were inseparable as children, and he would teach her how to make spears from raw materials found around Darjin. Jikun used to tell her stories of a chocobo named Qin'jirah before he left for his In'uljah trial.
Darlin Tchyarun: Deceased maternal grandmother. Previously a Consult of Darjin.
Dallenaux de Grandeur: Though not related by blood, Jikun considers Dallenaux to be a second father. The Ishgardian elezen noble took it upon himself to oversee Jikun's social education after he was referred by Gegero Bibiro. He introduced the man to the world of the black chocobo trade, helping him establish multiple connections all over Eorzea. Though his practices were... unethical, Jikun has much respect for Dallenaux for being a strong stepping stone into the world of trade and money.

History

"What more could one want other than luxury?"

Darjin

Darjin. A once small colony located in what is now called The Burning Wall. Those in poverty and the working class determined to escape the social confines of Uldah learned the ways of survival. The elders sought to keep its generations in secret, spared the harsh ways of the Thanalan rich and, even more, the dying. Stolen food and stocked belongings lasted the community for a year, a time that saw much turmoil and unrest among the group. However, the late Pipili Pilu took upon herself leadership within the colony and established the colony's laws with a band of consultants chosen from both homeless and working class. As a precaution for future survival, the Depakka and In'uljah trials were introduced for children born into the colony.
Nothing is known of what happened to the colony following The Calamity, however only remnants and painful memories are left behind. Now littered with pieces of Dalamud, what was once Darjin is now infested with Mirrorknights.

Depakka

The Depakka is the Darjin children's first hunt at the age of 6. The duration of a Depakka lasts 24 hours. Each child hunts a monster in Eastern Thanalan while under the supervision of their assigned hunting instructor, usually a parent or a person who has returned from their In'uljah without a chocobo foot. Females hunt one month before the males as they begin their hunting training earlier. After a successful hunt, candidates and their supervisors return to the colony with a bottle of blood or serum. After both females and males have hunted, they are all marked at the Blood Marking Ceremony, in which children's faces are painted with a mixture of powder and the collected blood by their instructors. The adults pick the colour of the markings, each colour marking a blessing or fortune that they have for their student.
Those who are unable to complete their hunt are abandoned in the wilderness.

In'uljah

The In'uljah is a coming of age ceremony set in place by the late Pipilu Pilu and her consultants shortly after the establishment of Darjin. At the young age of 12, children are exiled from the colony, required to survive in the wilderness on their own. They are required to bring treasures from the world back to the colony, artifacts to provide education for those preparing for the Depakka hunt. One of these required treasures is a chocobo foot, which will then be hung above the family's home to indicate to the rest of the colony that a son/daughter who is ready to be wed has returned safely from their In'uljah trial. Common practice is one who returns without a foot becomes a hunting instructor for Depakka candidates and is not allowed to marry. A person's In'uljah requires a minimum of 3 years in exile, and the longest trial is documented at 15 years.

Jikun

Jikun was born to Xa'in (née Tchyarun) and Kibotosek Neir, elder brother to Itsu Neir, who is 3 years younger. He was the ideal elder brother: strong, handsome, and protective of his younger sister. He had attended one or two Consult meetings with his grandmother, Darlin Tchyarun, who had high hopes that he would take her place in the Consult of Darjin after returning from his In'uljah.

Darjin Life

Family
Childhood was constantly spend with his beloved sister, Itsu. The two were nearly inseparable, constantly playing by the water on the lowest platform of what is now The Burning Wall. From a young age, his father had taught him to make spears out of raw materials found around the colony. As education was limited to artifacts brought back by adults, Jikun loved to fantasize about chocobos. He enjoyed fantasizing the look and sounds of the birds, telling Itsu made-up stories of a chocobo named Qin'jirah. As his sister trained with their mother for her Depakka hunt, he relayed his knowledge of crafting to his sister. His grandmother had hoped that Jikun would join the Consult of Darjin in her place.
Depakka
Jikun had embarked on the trial with a spear that he had made with his father. His hunting instructor was Kibotosek Neir, a lancer/archer from Gridania. He was the first to return from his Depakka hunt. Jikun, who was known for setting high goals for himself, had his eyes set on Firedrake blood. His father had escorted him over to Drybone, then watched from afar, seeing great promise in his son. The boy used his then small body to his advantage: nimble as he was, he would climb into trees and deliver a striking blow on his fall down. A several hour fight that involved a game of hide and seek with his prey landed the boy a bottle of Firedrake blood.
Kibotosek painted his son's face blue, which represented prosperity. The cross symbol was to represent his fearlessness.
3 years later, when Itsu would go through her Depakka hunt, he removed the spearhead of his Depakka weapon and presented it to her on a string as a good-luck charm. That same spearhead would help her slay her Kedtrap.
In'uljah
Jikun left for his In'uljah at the age of 12, leaving behind his then 9-year old sister behind in tears. Both his parents had seen him off with great confidence; he was a strong prodigy. He would come home. The boy was excited to explore the world at the time.

Calamity/Post-Calamity

The Chocobo Trade
Jikun immediately found himself at Camp Drybone following his departure. He had heard of an establishment nearby and wanted to become part of what the colony called an "established society." As he entered Drybone, he found himself at the pub. As a young child fresh to society, Jikun demonstrated his skills to the wrong crowd. A lalafell by the name Gegero Bibiro noticed the boy in the pub and quickly became interested in him: the poorly made lance, tattered clothing, his face paint and disheveled hair made it obvious that this was a poor boy. Perfect. He quickly took Jikun as his apprentice and back to Uldah for further training. As Gegero Bibiro saw promise in the boy wonder, he contacted his men in Ishgard; this side of his business that was a little more shady. Dallenaux de Grandeur, an Elezen noble and businessman, had his hand in the illegal sector of the chocobo trade. Unlicensed chocobo poaching, butchering were hidden behind licensed bird exporting and raising. Dallenaux, who had the pleasure of watching Jikun demonstrate his agility and skill, sent him to join his men in Dravania, joining seasoned hunters and poachers in both the Forelands and Hinterlands.
Body Scars

Jikun, who was once fascinated with chocobos, found it hard to even injure the big yellow birds. Dallenaux, who was known for his unconventional approach for training, had taken Jikun to a large, hidden cave atop a waterfall in the Dravanian Hinterlands. That was where he was to become a man of the trade: in order to get over his fear of hurting the birds, he would have to get hurt. The cave, which was fenced off, was home to the organization's disposed birds: chocobos that were rabid, hostile or overall impossible to train. Dallenaux locked the boy in the dangerous keep overnight, giving the boy no choice: it was either kill or be killed. It was not even an hour before the chocobos began to claw and peck at him. Luckily he had been thrown in with his lance, and this was nothing more than trying to a kill a chocobo for the In'uljah, was it not? Except he had to kill multiple birds. The boy managed to not only kill any hostile birds, but learned to break most of them into obedience, even if it meant using unethical practices. Ever since, Jikun has worked as the company's chocobo trainer and poacher, leaving him with multiple scars that litter his skin.

OOC Information

First off, I'm really glad to meet you! You can call me either Itsu or Tear, I'll respond to either name! I personally prefer non-combat/everyday roleplay, as I'm still new to the whole thing. However, I'm very open to weaning into heavier/combat RP. When in doubt, give me a heads up OOC and I'll let you know if I think I can handle it! I'm available through Skype and LINE, available upon request.
