General

Jace Hunter is a 23 year-old half-Keeper, half-Seeker. His birth name is Kami'ya Jaan. At birth, he was left with a Hyuran family in Gridania. Raised by an Ishgardian mother and Lominsan father, he learned both the art of magic and hand-to-hand combat. At age 15, his parents sent him to Limsa Lominsa to learn the art of summoning. Currently, he works mostly for himself, studying the various kin around Eorzea and working to perfect his magic and hand-to-hand combat.

Appearance

Jace, or Kami'ya, is quite short. About 5 fulm, even. His hair is generally up to his shoulders or longer and only slightly unkempt, although, it is soft and silky to the touch. His skin is rather dark, which, despite being a half-Seeker, comes from his Keeper mother. He keeps a small trimmed goatee and his eyes are a bright amber. He is in between muscular and lithe, and has trouble lifting large weapons, due mostly to his lack of the upper body strength to wield such. He usually conceals his face with a mask and dresses according to climate.

Behavior

Jace could almost be considered ditzy and childish. Despite the fact he actually possesses high intellect for his age, Jace prefers to be a bit of a troublemaker. He's quite nosy, poking his nose into the affairs of others, just because he is curious enough to care or bored enough to involve himself. He is flighty, jumpy, and overall quite hyper.

Despite all of that, when Jace gets into conversations concerning his studies, he can suddenly become quite serious and astute, though, there is no hiding his excitement when going over his notes.

Jace is mostly very kindhearted, unless he's crossed or unless his friends are threatened. He tries his best to make friends with all he meets, but, even he is smart enough to know there are some less-than-reputable people in the realm.

Combat

As Jace was growing up, he was taught different disciplines from his parents. Jace's father was an axe-wielding pirate, who swore by his axe and valued it as his primary weapon of choice. However, Jace has trouble lifting heavy weapons. As such, Jace's foster father, Lyndon Hunter, taught him the art of hand-to-hand combat, instead.

Jace's mother, Colleen, a healer from Ishgard, taught Jace how to harness his aether. Noticing he had a niche for the arcane, she resolved to send him to Limsa Lominsa, to learn arcanima. Different factors have gone into Jace's unusual sensitivity to aether. If there is thick, heavy aether, chances are he would notice. If he is given time and is allowed to examine a person, he can "attune" to their aether and recognize it at a later date.

Around age 16, Jace began thieving. Using his knowledge of hand-to-hand combat to apply to daggers and such weapons, Jace became even more so proficient in hand-to-hand combat and has some knowledge of short blades and dagger-like weaponry.

Currently, Jace does well in summoning and the other arcane arts. He studies other forms of magic when time permits, and does rather well. He is also quite accomplished at hand-to-hand, and is very light on his feet. Jace prefers to use claws and baghnakhs, rather than or cesti, he is also adept at using daggers. Though, due to his more kindhearted nature, he does his best not to injure anyone more than necessary. Jace looks to study and train the axe once more, just as his foster father did.

Relationships

Lyndon Hunter - ( presumably deceased)
Jace's foster father. A well-trained axe weilder. He fought on the side of the Twin Adder at the battle of Carteneau. He was presumed dead or Missing in Action. There are currently no leads on his whereabouts.

Colleen Hunter, of House Haillenarte of House Friant - ( presumably deceased)
Jace's foster mother. A gifted healer. She fought on the side of the Twin Adder at the battle of Carteneau. She was presumed to be dead or Missing in Action. It has come to light that her actions and the actions of those in House Friant caused the downfall of the house and arrests of house members. There are currently no leads on her whereabouts.

Calu Sheen
The first member of the Anemos Circle Free Company that Jace met. Their relationship seems to be based off of who can make fun of the other better. Basically, a sort of love-hate friendship. However, Jace would consider them quite close. Their attitudes seem to mesh well. Where Jace seems to be a bit more polite and playful, Calu can be a bit more harsh and abrasive, but still funny. Jace finds a great friend in her, regardless of how much the two butt heads.

Erik Mynhier
Erik and Jace's relationship began abruptly when Erik took interest in helping to find Jace's parents. Conversely, Jace took a special interest in helping to locate Erik's wife, as well. Occasionally, the researcher and the former-Sultansworn meet for drinks and to talk. At times, they explore together as well, doing their best to help one another find those closest to them. Jace considers Erik one of his best friends.

Aerone Carnelian Jace's friend and Calu's love interest. Aerone often picks on Jace for his choices in clothing, but the two are actually rather close friends. Although they have had a rocky point when Jace accidentally gave Calu a weak version of a Fantasia, turning her into a Lalafell. Aerone, for lack of a better word, was pissed.

Kyuu'sae Yuusatu Jace's cousin, relatives of the same tribe. Jace recognizes Kyuu'sae's talent as a Thaumaturge and Black mage, however, he thinks that Kyuu'sae could benefit from learning proper aether control and how to recognize corrupt aether. As well as keeping away from the void and becoming "Black". That said, Jace has taken on teaching Kyuu'sae what he knows of dense black magic, which goes against Aerone's Black Magic teaching to Kyuu'sae.

Aumeric Astrechere Although they have not seen each other in some time, Aumeric is considered to be one of Jace's best friends and his best pupil. Given the name "Tall Pupil", Jace decided to give Aumeric a formal education on Summoning. Although Jace himself didn't have too great of a formal education, he does his best to give Aumeric as much attention as possible. Jace also recognizes Aumeric as a great performer and often bugs him to dance with him from time to time.

D'ai Maou Another one of Jace's pupils as well as a Free Company co-worker. Jace saw potential in D'ai from day one and decided to teach him all he can about Summoning. Though D'ai may have a long way to go, Jace is happy to teach him. Jace and D'ai have a very strong bond, and can often be seen practicing in Jace's office or in the yard of the Free Company building. The two are also in a relationship.

History

Jace Hunter. Or, Kami'ya Jaan, was born in the year 1557, left on the doorstep of the "Hunter" household, owned by Colleen and Lyndon Hunter. He was raised in Gridania for 15 years. Somewhat of a sheltered child, Jace had grown up to be schooled by his mother--both in learning of the world, and learning how to control his aether.

While he lived a rather sheltered life, he was not a particularly unhappy child. Jace enjoyed being around his parents, who, showed them nothing but unconditional love, despite him not being their biological son.

Jace would go on occasional hunting trips with his father, learning to fight hand-to-hand, while also hunting alongside his father. At age 8, Jace experienced his first taste of hand-to-hand combat. His father saw potential in the flighty young Miqo'te, and taught him Pugilist arts instead of the axe.

Learning about the kin and fauna in parts of the Shroud came from his mother. Although she was Ishgardian, she took quickly to the Shroud and began life as both a Botanist and a citizen. She also frequented around the Conjury guild. Jace, a year after getting a taste of hand-to-hand, began to learn the control of his aether and quickly took to it. As he learned more and more, his mother decided to take him on her trips into the Shroud, where he learned about Sylphs and other kin in the expansive forest.

By age 11, he was an exceptional fighter--sparring constantly with his father--as well as quite an educated young man.

Jace would rarely get outside or play with other children. As the years went on, his parents noted his talent and contemplated sending him to Limsa Lominsa to learn summoning and arcane arts.

A few suns before going off Cartenaeu to battle, Jace's parents put him on a ferry to Limsa Lominsa. As he made his trip there, he looked up to see Dalamud falling. The next he recalls, Jace is being gathered off of a beach and brought into the city-state.

At only 15, he began to raise himself from there, attending classes and practicing his magic and combat over the next 5 years. He was able to make somewhat of a living off doing deliveries in Limsa Lominsa. He began to run alongside a group of thieves around this age as well, ending around age 18 or 19. Over the years, he has begun to slowly perfect his combat arts and aether control, manipulation, and overall understanding of the arcane arts and summoning. He is also working on expanding his knowledge of the kin in Eorzea. In recent years, Jace has begun to practice the art of Alchemy.

Jace's father is a Seeker from a sect of the Ka' tribe and a subset clan who call themselves the "Beholders of the Sky". Jace's mother, once in the governing tribunal for the Beholders, is of Keeper origins.

Religion

Jace believes strongly in Halone's teachings. He will often dismiss people by saying, "May the Fury guide you". He also believes strongly in Thaliak, the Scholar, simply because of his own love for learning.

He respects Menphina, the Lover, as he feels it keeps close to his Keeper of the Moon roots.
