Employer: Crystalline
Marital Status: Free

Appearance

Height: 5 fulms 0 ilms.
Weight: Average for her build.
Body: K'hylia has the build of someone who keeps themselves busy in the outdoors; lightly toned and athletic. She had noticeable hips and a reasonable bust.
Hair: Blonde, messy and woven with various braid and beads or orange and red.
Eyes: Bright and amber in colour, giving a leonine look.
Skin: Tanned and dusty.
Scars and Markings: She has three dark clan-markings on each of her cheeks.
Clothing: Simple and well-made seems to be the go-to for K'hylia. Robust for travelling, if sometimes impractical. She does have the odd bit of her wardrobe to be a little more fancy.
Voice: She has a pronounced accent, traditional to that of tribal Seekers, sometimes hissing her 'h' sounds or spitting the 's' by mistake. It can sound throaty to some, as though she is rolling her words before she speaks them. Even so it is light and femanine, spilling warmth and kindness in her tone.

Physical Training

  • Archery.
  • Daggers as a fall-back when things get a little close.
  • Climbing and acrobatics.
Preferences/Strengths:
A huntress from a very young age, K'hylia is most comfortable with a bow over her shoulder and arrows in her quiver. In fact, she almost feels naked without them. She has a sharp eye and keen senses to match, easy to judge wind and trajectory.
She is also a born climber, quick to scale a tree as she might be the walls of an Ul'dahn alleyway. Agile, flexible and graceful as many of her people are, she jumps and tumbles well, usually finding her feet. Usually.
Aversions/Weaknesses:
Whilst daggers usually rest low on her hips. She isn't particularly skilled with them and wouldn't last long in a fight if she had to rely on them to survive, but they make for a good tool in a close-quarters scrap where the bow-and-arrow falter off. Give her a sword and she's entirely lost.

Magical Training

  • No formal magical training.
Preferences/Strengths:
She can use aether waypoints to get around. She doesn't really understand it and no one has ever really bothered to explain to her the how and why.
K'hylia sometimes reads the stars as 'fate' but thinks nothing deeper is at play. Perhaps, there isn't?
Aversions/Weaknesses:
She has no real understanding of magic and aether at all. She may as well be null to it all, for all the good it does her.
A bone necklace and an amalj'aa fang earring.

Crafting

  • Woodworking.
  • Jewelcrafting.
Preferences/Strengths:
Lia makes her own bows and fletches her own arrows. She takes great pride in the woodwork of her bow crafting. She also has a knack for simple jewellery, such a bone, tooth or stone necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
Aversions/Weaknesses:
K'hylia has no skill outside of those simple thing. She cannot really even craft things out of wood beyond what she knows with any kind of skill, although she's tried to make small toys now and then. They usually fall apart.

Personality [1]
I have shamelessly stolen this from Jariana Rinjahl, who in turn stole from here. There's more to Lia than described, but it's a start!.

DETERMINED K'hylia will meet any challenge given to her with everything she has. The dullest of tasks to the most exciting of adventures, the miqo'te is always determined to do the best she can and make sure that everyone else knows it, too. She's driven to make a name for herself, to put down those who doubt her by determined actions, not mere words. She has a big mouth on her, but she will always try to back up her talk with deeds!

DUALITY Born and raised in a very traditional Seeker tribe, then thrown in to city life in her middling teens, K'hylia has a duality to her personality she often has trouble reconciling. Oft times she will act in ways befitting a desert-born Seeker, seemingly out of place and other times the city's influence on her seems to erase anything of the young woman she was before. She can struggle to know who she truly is beneath it all, and how she is supposed to git in to Eorzea at large without betraying her born heritage and upbringing.

NAÏVE K'hylia learned little of the world outside of her tribe when growing up, and as such it makes her susceptible to believing almost anything she's told on a subject she knows little about. At the same time, she clings strongly to ingrained beliefs she already has on the nature of life, and even when faced with how silly they may seem will refuse to shake off her convictions.

MORAL OUTLAW While not a true criminal, K'hylia has been known to fall on the wrong side of the law now-and-then with her rather strange moral views. She fights for the underdogs; happy to take from those who have excess to give to those who have little, willing to harm percieved evil to protect an innocent. She is a strong believer in doing what is 'right', but her moral compass is born of compassion rather than learned from books and doctrine.

Religion and Morality

K'hylia is deeply religious and reverent of Azeyma and Memphina both. She will often make light of her belief in Memphina to others, quipping about her Keeper of the Moon cousins but she was raised to believe in the power of both Sibling-Gods.

Azeyma takes precedence over her worship and K'hylia will often pray for her favour before an endeavour, or seek her forgiveness for wrongdoings. She holds a small shrine to the Goddess in her private chambers and will make do with any small place to pray should be be away. She worships Azeyma in ways she was taught in her tribe, her rituals often involving flame, heat, light or paint. Being the Goddess of Inquiry, Lia often puts down her pursuit of 'doing the right thing' down to Azeyma's guiding hand.

Memphina is revered to her as the sister of Azeyma. The Moon Goddess was the purview of her tribes Seers and night-born navigators. As such, K'hylia had little to do with her direct worship and knows even less of the rituals of her tribe involving her. She is, however, The Lover and the Seeker is more than happy to explore that relationship with the deity.

Early Life and the Tribe

"She has her mother's light hair and her sire's sunset eyes. A daughter of Azeyma, if ever I saw one." - K'tensa Rhunde, Seer.

K'hylia, daughter of K'sela Rhunde and K'Fhey Nunh, was born around fifteen-to-twenty years before the calamity to a small, nomadic tribe of Hipparion, or Koo miqo'te. Her commune of hunter-gatherers was small, and they preferred to wander the deserts and dusty ravines of Thanalan rather than stay in any one place. Deeply traditional to the miqo'te tribal culture, they eschewed almost all contact with the towns and cities of those who shared the land around them. They were not a judging people but rather they preferred to keep things simple. City life, they said, was too complicated.

Early life for a young K'hylia was spent being raised not only by by her blood mother, but by the collective wisdom of the tribe around her. It was common for life's most important lessons to be taught by her mother and Nunh-sire but for more varied skills to be taught by those who knew them best. Thus, K'hylia grew up in the love and warmth of all those around her, learning alongside others her age from tribal members who experienced all walks of life.

Her mother taught her to hunt in the wild and to be reverent of Azeyma in all things. Her father, the crafting of her own bows and arrows. From some she would learn how to make and play the pan pipes. From others, how to catch fish in a shallow stream with a spear or even her hands. When she began to come of age, the lessons would turn to the importance of being appealing to a Nunh and how to impress to ensure selection for furthering the line. To K'hylia, these traditions were nothing out of the ordinary.

For a time, K'hylia lived happily, fully prepared to take her place as an adult amongst her people.

The Red Moon

"Menphina's Hound grows hungry. I fear She has let him from his leash, but for what purpose I dare not think. Were that Azeyma could calm Her sister's wrath!" - K'janis Fhey, Novice Seer.

It was around the time that Dalamud began to fall that K'hylia's life would change.

With the coming of the red moon towards Hydaelyn, the Amalj'aa who had otherwise kept largely to themselves began to fall in to a state of panic. Feeling their needs for their Primal deity, Ifrit, to protect them from untold dangers to come, the warrior caste of Beastmen turned their hearts to the darkness of the Inferno and their attention to any nearby who would sate their Lord's hunger. Where the City-State of Ul'dah and the Amalj'aa had never been on amiable terms, this newfound vigour turned their attention also to the wandering tribes of Seekers that made Thanalan their home.

K'hylia's small family was one such tribe that suffered at their hands. Raided at night by an overwhelming force, the tribe quickly succumbed to the Amalj'aa, with many dead from the battle and those that remained cast in chains to be Tempered and forced in to slavery. Were it not for the quick thinking of her mother, forcing K'hylia in to the arms of their swiftest runner to flee, she would have suffered the same fate.

Few escaped from that fateful night and the family K'hylia had known for her early years was decimated in little more than the passing of the stars.

The Desert and the City

"Give 'er some bread. She'll last the night. Then, she's on 'er own." - An Ul'dahn Bystander.

K'hylia soon shook off her company. Despite having her life saved, bitterness overwhelmed her. She set off out alone, determined to be alone and fend for herself. The young Seeker began to curse Azeyma and Memphina, betrayal seething deep in her blood. Broken and faithless she wandered, Dalamud coming ever closer.

She survived well alone, for a time. All she had learned in her tribe served her well but the lands turned more dangerous as Dalamud drew close and animals she had once hunted with ease were soon becoming beasts she needed to steer clear of. Hunger and desepration turned her north, towards where she knew the great cities were. She stumbled the miles to Ul'dah, collapsing outside the walls.

In the city she stayed, living in the darkness of back-alleys and surviving through a life of thievery and begging. When the Calamity came it seemed a relief; an end to what her life had become. As fire rained from the sky and the world seemed ready to be torn asunder, K'hylia breathed a sigh of relief.

The Thief

"They care not where the food comes from, just that it sits in their bellies. You and I, though. Different, eh? We have morals." - Old Drifter, Ala Mhigan Refugee.

The Calamity did not spell and end for K'hylia. By the end of the terrifying changes it wrought on the world, she was happy for it and felt foolish she had wished her life away. With reborn vigour in her heart, she began to look for better means of survival. It was this that brought her to a hyur named Enro and his street gang.

Enro would take K'hylia in and train her as a thief. Her natural agility, skill at climbing and lightness on her feet made her the perfect choice to steal from the high towers of Ul'dah's wealthy. For a time, the arrangement worked well. The gang would steal from the richest of people and turn their earnings to the displaced and the poor. K'hylia felt they were helping and making a difference.

But greed sinks its teeth in to the hearts of men.

Soon, Enro's work took a less altruistic turn. Many of the riches he would keep for himself. The food he brought to Pearl Lane was stolen from the camps outside of the city. The homeless within the walls cared not where the bread came from - only that they were fed. Protesting, K'hylia was berated, shunned and even beaten. After three years of running with Enro and his gang, she cut ties and struck out alone. The skills she had learned in the Ul'dahn streets would serve her well as she turned to odd-jobs and adventuring.

A New Life

"Me? I'm th' best adventurer in all Ul'dah!" - K'hylia Fhey.

Work started slow for K'hylia. Small, odd jobs here and there for a pittance of coin. K'hylia would help tend the small farms cropping out on the outskirts of the city, keep pests at bay, tend to flocks in La Noscea's farmland. Whatever she could do, she would get.

After a year or so she had finally made a name for herself as a reliable freelancer. She would take almost any contract and do her work honestly and earnestly. It was unfulfilling to the young Seeker, for the most part. She needed greater advtured, more dangerous jobs! So she turned to the Free Companies of Eorzea and looked to see where her skills could be placed. A company of 'Mercenaries with Morals' caught her eye and took her in. Ever since, K'hylia has been travelling under their name, taking larger and grander jobs with each passing moon.

Her name may not carry the prestige of the greatest Eorzea has to offer, but that certainly doesn't stop her believing it does. Perhaps one day, it will be true!
