Manmi Avagnar is an Au Ra of the Avagnar clan from the Azim Steppe of Orthard.

After years under the Adarkim clan, Manmi defected in the night, finding her way to Gridania after a journey that began as a stowaway on a Doman ship. Now fervently studying the art of conjury, Manmi is committed to spending the rest of her life learning what it means to live in peace.

As she spends a great deal of time in Gridania, Manmi has taken great interest in the nearby plant life. Her experience as a nomad in Orthard has given her extensive survivalist skills.

Manmi has downcast eyes, one of which always seems to be covered one way or another. The dark circles under her eyes are silent verification that she spends many a night awake, for reasons unknown.

Since defecting, Manmi has kept her hair short out of convenience and a hope that a change in appearance would make her less recognizable. As of late it has grown out slightly.

Manmi carries herself with a poised if not rigid demeanor, hoping her staunch posture gives her an air of dignity. She gets easily flustered, apparent by the rush of blood to her face.

Biography

Manmi was but a child when the Avagnar were absorbed by the Adarkim. Not understanding the blood spilled around her, she fought hard to be recognized as useful to the Adarkim despite her small stature. It was only when she was 15 years of age did her parents divulge the full details of the conflict, wrongly believing her able to handle the truth. Learning of her true clan name, Manmi became indignant, refusing to follow the orders she previously obliged and telling the other clan children of her real origins. When word got to the adults of Manmi's actions, she would soon learn the price of her stubborn pride.

Begging for their daughter's life to be spared, Manmi's parents gave their lives as retribution for her recalcitrant behavior, and in their passing subjected her to years of forced obedience to the Adarkim. After the slaughter, Manmi was severely beaten, only being allowed to rejoin the clan on two conditions: she had to survive her injuries and make her way back to the clan as they traveled, and never speaking of the Avagnar again. Though blinded in one eye, she was able to find her way back through the secret kindness of several Avagnar still using their names in the shadows. Knowing that traveling the steppe alone would lead to certain death, she decided to return to the Adarkim at their behest. While never again daring to brandish her ancestral name in public, she kept in her heart a seed of sorrow for the consequences of her actions and a seed of hatred for the conflict between clans and the violence it caused. It was in this time she began to look past the life of survival she had known, wondering if the strangers she glimpsed were able to live fulfilling lives. Sensing her growing affinty towards a peaceful way of life conflicting with her culture, Manmi secretly wished for an end to her suffering and mental turmoil.

Years later, Manmi looked up at the stars as her clan slept. Upon the thought of spending the rest of her life locked in ceaseless conflict with rival clans, she made the rash decision to slip out in the dark of night, wandering for days before coming upon Doma. Through some sort of shady undertakings, she was granted passage to the far continent of Eorzea as a stowaway on a ship. Wandering across Eorzea with the assistance of her survivalist skills, she eventually happened upon the city-state of Gridania and became enamored with its surrounding land. Though out of place, she now finds herself learning the art of conjury while futhering her botanical studies.
