Raeventiel Beaudonet
Character Quote
"Who cares about fate?! Worry about the "now" not the future." —Raeventiel Beaudonet
Character
Name Etimology
His given name "Raeventiel" is a play on the feminine name "Raevyn" which means "Raven". Oddly enough origins of Raeventiel’s name don’t just stop there. While I initially desired a name to be just as dark and mysterious as my character, I soon learned that his name Raeventiel sounds suspiciously like the Norwegian phrase “Reven till” which is loosely translated: “As a fox” or “Of a Fox”.
Nicknames
Raeventiel dons a few nicknames that hail from his heydays as a bounty hunter. His professional bounty hunting alias was the "Mad Hound". Eventually his companions saw him less like a "hound" and more like an dainty "swan" instead. While the nickname "Mad Swan" has a bit of a ring to it, Raeventiel honestly despise that nickname is quick to correct those who call him that either with words or force.

General Background
Raeventiel is the second son of a lesser noble house in Ishgard. In his youth, he was raised by his grand-uncle Gideloix Beaudonet along with his twin brother Morrigan after the death of his mother and father. Life in Ishgard was a difficult one but also a happy one. Raeventiel lived a rather sheltered life before finally venturing out of Ishgard when he reached the age of manhood. He attended Saint Reymanaud Academy for a time alongside his brother but expressed to his grand-sire that he would rather explore the world than deal with the arrogance of the clergy. Morrigan eventually followed suit to leave the academy for the Temple Knights while Raeventiel joined the ranks of many adventurers who had their eyes set on gold and riches.
For a time Raeventiel lingered in Gridania studying the flora and fauna there before eventually packing his bags for Ul'dah.
Life in Ul'dah
As one can suspect, Raeventiel is an adventurous young man with a passion for learning. His journeys to the other city-states exposed him to a life free from the Dravanian conflict and free from the threat of the clergy. He was able to find himself out there in the world and came to realize that not all that glitters is gold. His life in Ul'dah started off rather rocky considering that the Brass Blades took an unsavory interest in the Ishgardian nobleman. Eventually, Raeventiel managed free himself of the Blades's constant harassment by joining the Arrzaneth Ossuary. Raeventiel always possessed a laden talent for magic and rose up quickly in their ranks to become one of their high magisters.
The Brass Blades didn't dare harass the Elezen after that in fear that he would make good on his promise to "roast them alive." Eventually Raeventiel crossed the threshold of Thaumaturge to Black Mage once he found the Soul of the Black Mage within the outskirts of the Sagoli Desert. Having been seduced by the power bestowed to him by the crystal, Raeventiel joined the secret ranks of the Brothers of Black. Sworn to dedicate his existence to the eradication of all that is foul and impure hailing from the Void, Raeventiel begun a new and dark chapter of his life as a Black Mage.
Nevertheless, Raeventiel's adventures in Ul'dah weren't all so harrowing and some where even quite thrilling. Raeventiel quickly begun to learn that the people of Ul'dah are quite "passionate" behind closed doors and made money on the side as a "gentlemen of hire" for wealthy clients interested in spending a night or two with an Ishgardian lover. While this was nothing more than a side gig on his part, Raeventiel realized that he quite enjoyed the arduous act of lovemaking a little bit more than he enjoyed adventuring. Raeventiel kept a memoir of his sexual encounters and tried to keep record of every man or woman he met during his time in Ul'dah. He assures himself it was just for the sake of record-keeping but it's something a little more devious than that.
Fall of Dalamud
At the end of the Sixth Umbral Era, Raeventiel found himself bedridden for several years after surviving the horrors of the Calamity. He was visiting Gridania for a time when the war broke out between Eorzea and the Garlean Empire. With all access and roads leading to Ishgard severed during the conflict, Raeventiel was trapped along with countless others as the moon Dalamud fell to the earth. It was thought by Raeventiel's family that he had died during the calamity but thanks to the efforts of a few brave souls and one particular padaj, Raeventiel lived. He was taken in by the practitioners of the conjurers guild and was nursed to health. Unfortunately, Raeventiel spent the next three years in a death-like sleep due to the severity of his injuries. His brother Morrigan along with others of their small family gathered together to bring Raeventiel home.
Uncertain whether or not the young Beaudonet would live, their grand-uncle pooled all the money and resources he could to give his grandnephew the best care money could afford. But when House Dzemael expressed displeasure over their excessive spending on Raeventiel's well-being, the family changed allegiance to that of Haillenarte who persuaded them to change sides with the allure of coin. Such a traitorous decision was deemed treasonous by those of Dzemael but Raeventiel's grand-uncle had friends in high places. The family was spared public humiliation thanks to these "friends" and Raeventiel rewarded a second chance at life.
The extent of Raeventiel's injures remain unknown but it's rumored that the poor lad had to undergo years of surgery while in that comatose state. His body had to be reconstructed through both science and magic. It was at his brother's behest that Raeventiel not awaken to find himself as some grotesque creature and thus urged these physicians and healers alike to preserve his brother's looks. It took years for them to undo the damage done to Raeventiel but eventually they managed to successfully heal the boy except for the strange purple glow within his right eye.
Much like his brother, Raeventiel was born with blue eyes but his right eye was badly damaged during the Calamity. With no possible way to save his eyesight, Raeventiel's right eye remained unfocused. Raeventiel is nearly blind in his right eye and it often is the source of many headaches. It's said that the discoloration of his eye was caused by the abundance of aether that coursed through him during the tragedy. Considering that the time he was a practicing Black Mage, it wouldn't be a surprise that his aether merged with that of the falling Dalamud which lead to a good percentage of his body being burned during the cataclysm. Despite his physicians knowledge of how to treat such wounds, the oddity of his lavender colored eye left them puzzled.
Raeventiel eventually did awaken a few years later but when he did, he wasn't like his old self anymore.
