Character
General
Sabathius is a well-traveled vagabond (mercenary, depending on who he is speaking with) who's motives are never quite clear. Without a home to speak of, he is known for traveling and scarcely maintaining residence in the same location for long periods of time. A skilled swordsman with a rather open personality, he travels about from contract to contract.
Appearance
Sabathius is young, in his younger twenties. Physically fit, toned with a swimmer's body from years on the ocean, standing roughly 5 fulm 11 ilms in height. His skin, has an ever slight tan from spending time in the Thanalan and out on the open ocean. Notably having facial tattoos which some would speculate his affiliation with Pirates from Limsa Lominsa. To which, he does not confirm nor deny. He has raven black hair, with a large portion of the right front seemingly burned red with no explaination as to why. A single ice blue eye looks out at the world, as the other is covered by an eye patch that he never removes. The scars that go across his nose beneath it and from his cheek to his forehead indicate that it was potentially clawed out or struck by a weapon in his past. His body is covered in many scars, a road map and testiment to many battles he has fought and won, or narrowly escaped upon losing. When wearing little garments that cover his chest, one can see a very large burn, weapon scar that goes from just below his collar bone and would appear to end just above his abdomen.
Behavior
Sabathius is relatively open, sometimes blunt, and often bringing his sense of humor to the table when ever approached. He is known to tease, of course of good humor at all times. He is confident in his skill, and scarcely enjoys being talked down upon (especially by Gridanians). He commands a level of charm and cunning with everyone he speaks with, always seeming to try to bring a lighter side to situations. He is approachable, though has moments of being aloof in certain situations that call for it. He appears to have a bit of an accent that stems from living around Limsa Lominsa in frequency. He regards combat skill, strength, and humor highly and typically treats Ala Mhigans with a great deal of respect. This stemming from spending several years in Little Ala Mhigo supporting the Ala Mhigan resistance in Southern Thanalan. He likes to think he sees the potential in others, and will seek to support it as much as he is able or allowed. As being someone who has gone a lifetime without knowing bonds outside of the kind one warrior shares with another, he values them strongly.
He lives on a constant level of simple. Eating simple meals (bread, cheese, and water), sleeping in simple locations, and enjoying simple pleasures. He tends to go with situations as they come, without seeming to be in any particular hurry to get to any particular place at any given time. A conservative nature about him till the need arises that his energies should be exerted, such as combat. Overall, he attempts to maintain a very down-to-earth mentality in what he does.
Combat
General
Sabathius was taught early in age to use the bow and arrow. His mother, teaching him and his sister as early as the age of 8 years. Their father, also taking this time of their life to begin their martial training in the use of the sword. At a young age, Sabathius was never very good at using the sword, his sister Matina being far superior at the sword, while he the bow. Their training would be cut short, as they would flee Coerthas, and the fate of their parents would leave them without learning more from their parents skills.
He would continue to hone these skills, however, as his life went on. Taking them with him to Limsa Lominsa, and Southern Thanalan. Though his archery would suffer in his five years in Limsa, it would sharpen quickly again as he would take routine trips with caravans to Little Ala Mhigo in Southern Thanalan. His sister, would perfect her art by the age of 14, crafting a sword technique known as the "Scarlet Wing" which focused on grace, agility, and utilizing the enemies force against them with a curved sword. She would later teach to Sabathius, who was far better at archery, stalking, scouting, and hunting.
He is known for being able to use hand-to-hand and to use his body as a weapon of survival, and also the ability to use a shield for blocking and as a weapon. Both are skills he picked up from the Ala Mhigan Resistance and in partial from his father at a young age. He can hunt, scout, and stalk prey as well as use the bow. But he seems to not like to admit he can do these things.
Sabathius has /very little/ command over the aether. He is fully inert to Fire spells of anykind. Being able to do the most basic of aether mending of wounds. But this tends to be a taxing endeavor( ** -See history and timeline footnote). He scarcely, if ever, uses this.

A young woman whom was recruited into the order by Shido in Ul'dah. She was one of their first recruits, coming into the order not long after Ragnar was brought into the Order. Sabathius views her as strong willed, quick witted, perseverant, and her "blood is flowin' the right direction". He has taken her in as somewhat of a Student, and has tested her whenever possible. Since her recruitment, he is not often seen without her beside him or immediately at his flank in armor with a capable sword at her hip. He believes strongly in both her abilities and her potential to succeed as a warrior, despite her mention of being relatively new to being an adventurer in general. Ragnar, and himself, continue to praise her ability to pick up combat and it's dirty necessities in order to survive.
>Update< Sukina and Sab have come a long way together in their journey of improving. Sukina has since graduated as his student to be the second living person to know the sword technique known as the "Scarlet Wing". He values her council as an officer beside him leading The Tomial Order, and values her presence in the times they do get to see one another. They have scarcely seen one another, as Sukina seeks to find a solution to his ailment and he off dealing with affairs in Revenant's Toll. Despite it, they gravitate to one another upon sight and share their endearing behavior as though they had never been apart.
Friends
Sophia Ashby -
One of the few people Sabathius could consider a close friend. Ash, as he calls her, pulled him from the ocean following the events of the calamity just off of the beach in Costa Del Sol. He treats them as a Pledged Sister, and close friend whom they have both adventured together before. Her skills with the lance, he considers to be unprecedented. She is one of the few people whom can match his wit when talking and allows her to step on his ego more than he does anyone else. Where they happen to meet, there is often much laughter.
Sabathius has known Hitari for over a year now, since he had met Shido, ironically, also outside of Costa Del Sol. As he had rushed to help Shido drunkenly fend off a giant crab that takes up residence there. They struck a friendship quickly, with Hitari's initial timid behavior seeming to go away quickly as they adventured together for a short term. They would meet routinely in Mor Dhona between jobs. He would later join Hitari and Shido in starting the Tomial Order in Mor Dhona. He views Hitari as his pledged sister.
A crafty, and capable Paladin whom immediately tried to sell him an 'exorsicm', upon their first meeting as he wandered the coast just outside of Costa Del Sol, incredibly drunk on Limsan Whiskey. This did not stop him from attempting to take on the giant crab that resides there. Sabathius helped him, and Hitari, defeat this creature where he would then strike up a friendship with them both. They would meet routinely between contracts in Mor Dhona, till later they would start the Tomial Order there. Although Shido is rowdy, energetic, and seemingly carefree, Sabathius knows he is capable of committing to action if he puts his mind to it. He sees Shido as his pledged brother.
A Healer from Gridania that Sabathius had initially been hired to be her bodyguard. In the process of which, he has grown to be quite close with Lottie, being someone she has confided in, many times. He's protective of her, in many ways which is not simply because she is his charge. There is an obvious rift between them most of the time, which he keeps at the back of his head whenever they speak. He sometimes is late to realize he is far less sophisticated than she is, and it can sometimes be something that draws a line between them when they speak. But regardless, he breaks to her somewhat frail nature and attempts to reconcile it when possible. Though he sometimes gets frustrated that she doesn't understand the life that he lives, he fears for her less experienced nature in being exposed to the worst parts that the world has to offer.
An Ala Mhigan that Sabathius has met through his recruitment into the Tomial Order, he is their first recruit. He has grown to look up to him in many ways, as he does most older and strong Ala Mhigans in his past. He is ever comfortable in the man's presence and trust him to a great deal, despite having only known him for a short bit of time. He admires his exceptional skills with the axe, his wisdom, and his utility to no end with every willingness to vouch for him with praise.
Mylene is a quiet creature in comparison to Sabathius. When she joined, she would barely speak a peep. In his absence, he had come to merely hear of her exploits, but had grown to have a rather elder brother sense of protectiveness over her. Seeing her as the warm heart of The Tomial Order, he would go through great lengths to protect her from harm. He has a habit of patting her on the head in an endearing manner upon greeting her, or upon departing words. Having been more involved in internal Tomial Order Affairs in the absence of his other Officers, he has had the ability to be around her more and see how far she's come with the Crew. He speaks proudly of her presence, to all who ask of her.
Enemies
At present, Sabathius has no enemies.
Combat Crushes
(This section, despite the use of 'crush' is reserved for people that Sabathius has observed in combat, and hopes to engage in combat at some point in time. This is not to imply attraction.)
Although he looks up to Ragnar, like all great warriors, Sabathius typically wants to fight him to see how they match up. He has indeed sparred with Ragnar before in their training sessions for the Order. However, despite winning the sparring bout, Sabathius is incredibly aware that Ragnar would defeat him in combat should it be more than just a spar. But like most Ala Mhigans he has been around before, it is somewhat of a custom to want to fight them to test skills. A mutual respect and bond that can only be built through combat.
Sabathius has never truly met Sophia Grave, personally, but he has seen her fight at the Grindstone arena several times as he's attended with his Charge, Lottie Forsaidh. He is constantly in awe at her combat ability, and has mentioned several times at how he is impressed with her acrobatic ability, agility, and outright she can be in her fighting. He has mentioned he would really only participate in the Grindstone, if it meant he had a shot of fighting her, specifically.

History/Timeline
Sabathius' Backstory, the (sorta) abridged Edition:
Sabathius, was born in the Coerthas Highlands. He had one twin sister, Matina. Their father, a Hyur Highlander and a brilliant swordsman and man-at-arms to a Knight of one of the houses. Their mother, a Hyur Midlander from La Noscea, who could shoot the eye of a dragon in flight. Both skills, would be taught to the twins. Sabathius excelling at Archery at a young age, Matina being the better swords(wo)man.
His parents, were killed by a Dragon which ran rampant across the Highlands, devastating some of the homes that lived in pocket hamlets around the Highlands outside of Ishgard. His father and mother being slain by the dragon while trying to keep it at bay as other troops attempted to help others flee the area.
They would be visited by their Uncle (brother of their mother, and pledged brother of their father), who came from La Noscea to tend to them. Sabathius and Matina, now 10, would leave with their Uncle from Coerthas to La Noscea. There, they would grow closer to their Uncle and treat him as a father. They would spend five years in Limsa, learning to live on both ship and on land. Matina, would continue to perfect her use of the sword and teach her arts to Sabathius who was far weaker at it. Sabathius' skills with the bow would decline in this time, as it found little use on the sea.
At fifteen, Sabathius and Matina would be taken with their Uncle to Southern Thanalan, to Little Ala Mhigo. There, they would be transporting goods back and forth to the Ala Mhigan resistance. Sabathius and Matina staying in Southern Thanalan to help the Ala Mhigans to protect their trade routes (which would later be forsaken by the Ul'Dah syndicate, crippling the area further). Matina and Sabathius spending most of their time fighting the Amal'jaa. Matina, growing in name as the "Scarlet Dancer", known for her ability to wield a curved blade using a perfect art of their Father, and what she had learned from living on the sea; the color being what she fancied most in her attire. Sabathius, would become known for his ability to hunt, stalk, and scout. Together, they would become close with the Ala Mhigans, and both would learn to use a Shield and employ unconventional fighting tactics to survive in combat.
Sabathius and Matina would be just turning sixteen when they would go out with several other Ala Mhigans in an attempt to save a small group of children who were taken by Amal'jaa to be tempered. In their tracking of the group, they stumbled upon a Amal'jaa Priest who wielded a 'blessed' aetherial scepter. Their group would ambush the Amal'jaa in a cavern, but Matina and Sabathius become separated as they pursuit the Priest.
The Priest's entourage is dispatched, though not quickly. Ultimately, the Amal'jaa Priest getting the upper hand as his size, use of magic, and weapon were stronger than the younger Sabathius and Matina could face even together. Matina would nearly be struck dead, but Sabathius would throw himself before the Priest, causing him to strike down on Sabathius' eye and continue down to his chest. His eye, would become tained by the Primal Aether, and his chest would receive a fiery primal aether scar that to this day still burns with Ifrit's zeal.**
Defeated, but not dead, Sabathius would lash out with Matina's sword in a last effort to save them both. The Amal'jaa Priest striking down his rod with a flare into the earth that would crumble the cavern floor that served as their arena. It would crumble and give way from the powerful magic, the Priest now cut in kind by Matina's sword by Sabathius, would fall down in one cavern. Sabathius, would struggle to keep Matina from falling into the depths of the earth. But he would prove not strong enough, as she would plunge into darkness before him. The shock would leave Sabathius unconscious, waking from his mentally locked state some days later.
Their Uncle, would take him from Southern Thanalan to La Noscea, where he would stay to recover. His body still burning at the scar, now lined with the shards of the aetherial weapon. Stress, and trauma haunted his sleep. The loss of a twin weighing heavily on him.
Two years would pass, as the Warriors of Light would engage the Empire and Bahamut would spread it's fiery death upon Eorzea. He could only watch as the rain of fire struck the ship he was on and plunge it into the ocean with the other Limsans who were on it.
Sabathius would be saved, by a Sophia Ashby, who would pull him from the ocean ashore close to Costa Del Sol. Amidst the drifted carnage that was left behind. He survived, but only barely, and would come to be friends with the Ashby(Ash) from that point forward. At this point, Sabathius would find his Uncle, and continue living as an Adventurer, exact motives unclear for why.
---
Some four years later, he would come to meet Shido Itsuka on the same beach of Costa Del Sol. Drunken, and vomiting into the ocean, Shido would be confronted by a giant crab. The Giant Crab would be bested by Sabathius, as he would save the drunken "Beach Wizard" as he claimed to be. Here too, he would meet Hitari and they would later start The Tomial Order in Mor Dhona.

Update 9/15/2016: Sabathius has long since disappeared and is believed to be dead following his kidnapping by Amal'Jaa and Khashim Sunderfist.
Foot Note--
Other Exploits
-Twins of Blood-
Matina and Sabathius were born at the same time looking identical to one another at a young age.
When both of them were at the age of 10, they had left with their Uncle from Coerthas to later go to Limsa. They were separated only for a short term from their Uncle and left in the care of one of his pledged brothers. They were on their way to Southern Thanalan to meet again with their Uncle who had gone ahead to secure their routes to Limsa when their small caravan was attacked by a set of bandits.
The twins were taken as hostages and brought to the location the bandits had been working from. In the night, the two twins whom still had the fire of their loss in their veins, would escape their holdings and brandish the weapons the bandits had foolishly left for them to use upon them as they slept.
They later surprised the Ala Mhigans who had tracked the bandits from the ambush site, who would find them sitting huddled together near the fire for warmth. The bloodied weapons still in their hands as if ready should more bandits come. Covered in the gore of their captors, the group of Ala Mhigans would dub them the "Twins of Blood". Which they would continue to call them even upon their return many years later.
