Goals

  • Expose the truth and lies the Holy See used to separate her from her brother.
  • Laying low from the Holy See.
  • Exploring Eorzea freely.
  • Doing good deeds for karma.

Religion

Alongside Dresden, they had been picked up by the Holy See as children from the streets. In exchange for safe haven, her brother joined the clergy while she was encouraged to a sedentary life within the halls as an alchemist. Because of the freedom that hadn't been granted to her brother, Sabrina was more inclined to see both the bad and good that came from the Holy See and became a vocal critic until she was forced to run for her life. Since then, she is against organized religion and believes in a more personal venue of worshiping the gods.

Alignment

Lawful Good: Following the Golden Rule, Sabrina treats others the way she wishes to be treated with respect and kindness. Even in the presence of evil, she is unfailingly polite and gentle, believing in the good of everyone. This tends to make her a bit naive, but she doesn't know that.

Personality

Sabrina tends to be the opposite of her brother. Where he's cold and despondent, she herself is warm and engaging, always interested in the world around her and the people that inhabit it. She had become very popular with the children in the clergy and often than not, she was usually the one sent to appease new orphans whose parents were lost during the Dragonsong Wars.

While she had been much subdued and quiet while in Ishgard, she found her voice leaving it, shaken by the desperation the Holy See would inflict on supposed heretics and critics, often deadly in the end. She is innately curious and easily excitable about new things. Though, when she is met with her fears she can oftentimes cry or try to run away as is her delicate nature.

Quirks

  • She is just as easily able to get sick as her brother, if not more. A life spent inside stone walls can do a number to one's immunity. Sometimes, she may even faint and then wake up a second later, dazed and confused.
  • Living a life of poverty on the streets, she's learned to be quick with her hands and will oftentimes pickpocket someone out of habit. If she's caught, she would naturally apologize and hand it back. (Unless it's gil, then you no has!)
  • When she lies, she bites her bottom lip to quiet her tongue from speaking the truth.
  • Distracting her is easy if you have foreign currency. She will literally spend hours gushing over them.
  • She will often have some kind of plant on hand for any infliction (even if it doesn't work!). That's why her robe is so big, it's full of plant secrets!

Flaws

  • Indecisive
  • Easily overwhelmed
  • Easily frightened to the point of immobilization
  • Reserved, but opinionated (even when wrong)

Fears

  • Any large bodies of water (ocean, lakes, etc). While traveling to Limsa, she was actually tipped overboard during a storm and nearly drowned before a sailor managed to swoop her up before she could be swept away.
  • Ishgardian trackers
  • Deserts
  • Monsters
  • A strange creature named Leviabeetus

Talents

  • She is exceptionally knowledgeable with botany and alchemy, though most of the time she'll accept bogus claims alongside legit ones in the curing of ailments.
  • While her magical ability is nowhere impressive, she is capable of simple healing spells if she was determined enough.
  • Pickpocketing is second nature to her and could easily slip in and out without detection.
  • She can balance a spoon on her nose.

Intelligence

Like her brother, Sabrina received a religious education in Ishgard administered by the Holy See, learning to read and write and study history. While his education was more extensive as his path laid more in Thaumaturgy, Sabrina's own magic was mediocre at best and was sent to a girl's only facility to study botany and rudimentary healing. This lack of attention to her gave her more freedom to explore other interests, including subjects like foreign politics and history books often confiscated for contesting the Holy See. This made her extremely opinionated on Ishgard reformation and oftentimes she received stern warnings of heresy for her silence.

Relatives

  • Chevonne de Lancret (Mother): A noblewoman who fell into poverty once her family's house fell after most died in combat with the Dravanians. She later died giving birth to Sabrina.
  • Tristain Saint-Clair (Father): A nouveau riche merchant who sought a chance to start a noble house in Ishgard. Discovering Chevonne was of the de Lancret line, he offered to marry her and take Nikola as his own son if she was able to produce an heir to the house. The deal fell through when she died in childbirth and, to add more insult to injury, Sabrina was born a girl. In disgust, he refused to accept Sabrina despite her brother's pleading and left them back on the streets.
  • Dresden Voltaire (Brother): Infamously aloof, Dresden was someone she depended on and was the source for his morality both on the streets and within the Holy See's walls. When he had approached her claiming heresy, he was tricked into believing he had killed her during the confrontation. She had not seen him in years since he left Ishgard and when he returned she had already left herself to find him.

Music Themes

Note: Vocal Songs are attributed themes in which the lyrics seem to relate or partially relate to the character. They don't mean to resemble the character's voice. The instrumental themes are meant to give an idea of the atmosphere around the character. Songs with character names (example: "Tidus's Theme") are NOT meant to indicate that the character is like the theme owner. I just find the instruments and melody fitting, not the character the song was originally addressed to.

Before Dalamud's Fall

Birth and childhood (0-10)

Sabrina was born on the streets of Ishgard where her mother died in labor. Despite it being near-impossible to raise a newborn on his own, her older brother refused to have a family take her as their own. Instead he raised her himself, becoming both parent, sibling, and guardian. Her earliest memory was asking if she could pickpocket to help feed the both of them which he adamantly refused, opting to earn coin exploiting his natural talent of Thaumaturgy instead. Despite his warnings, she picked up the ability from the other street children but earned it through charm and cleverness in the guise of charity.

When the Holy See sought out Dresden's innate magic, they accepted the both of them into one of their disciple wards, feeding and clothing them in return for their loyalty to the Archbishop and Halone. Dresden easily indoctrinated himself, thirsty for the power and secrets the Holy See can give him, while Sabrina was ordered to be spirited away to live a nice life of comfort befitting a lady. In the Convent of Halone, she learned how to read and write Eorzean script, delighting her tutors with her photographic memory. She hardly saw her brother during those years spent in the convent.

Teen Years

Because the Holy See's hold on her was more lax than her brother's, Sabrina had more freedom exploring life outside of following scripture, devoting herself to pursuits like astronomy and botany to pass the time. These pursuits blossomed a yearning to visit other foreign places, one that grew each year she acquired into womanhood. Despite becoming fairly popular with soldiers, including the rare few from the nobler classes, she had never been able to pursue a romance like other maidens her age due to the strictness of the convent and her brother's reputation. He had made extremely clear that his sister was off-limits to anyone, even bar the recommendation of the Holy See.

As her desire to see the world grew, so did her frustration with the Holy See, which reflected in her vocal opposition to certain protocols like tossing possible heretics off Witchdrop without a proper trial. This has caused a rift between her and Dresden, who often had to chastise her for her outspokenness in fear of her being branded a heretic. In the end, she found her first love with a wounded dragoon under her care and they both planned on leaving Ishgard, believing it to be hopeless during the Dragonsong Wars.

But the Holy See had eyes and ears all over the place and caught wind of their defection.

After Dalamud's Fall

Adulthood

After Dresden had been imprisoned after Dalamud's fall, Sabrina's lover had been slaughtered during his attempt to escape to Coerthas, and Sabrina was put in isolation with no chance of escape after refusing to leave her brother to his fate. In her darkest moments she contemplated suicide trapped in the small windowless room for almost a month until the changing of the guard, who easily fell for her tears and soft cries. He allowed her to escape so long as she didn't pursue finding her brother. Torn but desperate, she accepted the terms, unaware that the Holy See had manipulated Dresden into believing he killed her in an act of loyalty to Ishgard.

Using whatever survival tactics she had left while roaming the streets as a child, she took the first merchant caravan out and ended up under the protective embrace of Gridania and its citizens. There she was brought in to properly learn Conjury and had since lived there tending to Wood Wailers.

A Realm Reborn

Enjoying a relatively peaceful life in Gridania, she had received word about a man traveling between the main city-states, a dark fellow who shared a name with her and wielded Thaumaturgy with exceptional power and strength. Hoping to find him again, she bravely left the comfort of Gridania and began her travels south to other lands. But with the Garleans ever pushing into Eorzean territory, she is forced to fall back and provide medical aid for the Eorzean Alliance from time-to-time.
