Appearance

Weight: 98 ponz
Build: Soft; she has smooth curves that speak of calm, peaceful days while maintaining moderation in food and exercise.

Shizuka is a small, bright-eyed woman with shimmering white scales that blend into her pale skin. The splashes of red- in her hair, in her eyes, in her makeup- make a striking contrast against her monotone coloring. With the obvious exception of makeup, it's not immediately clear if the red is natural or not. However, close inspection of her scales reveals ruby flecks dotted erratically within.
She prefers modest garments that remind her of home: yukatas, kimonos, and other traditional wear. Living in Ul'dah and later Kugane has given her a taste for fashion, though, and sometimes she'll try modern Eorzean styles for a change of pace.
Despite Shizuka's preference for a quiet life, she has her scars. Formerly she had a dramatic scar across the bridge of her nose and down her face, but it was removed with magic. Left behind is a thin crack in her left horn that's been inlaid with gold leaf and small burns and cuts that dot her hands and arms from mistakes she's made while crafting.

  • Outlook

"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic... and we'll change the world."
  • Positive personality traits

Pacifist to the death. Forgiveness is king. Life should be kind.
  • Negative personality traits

Stubborn as a mule. Judgmental despite her best efforts. Mired in tradition.
  • Miscellaneous quirks

Her veins run hot with blood... not literally, thankfully. Prone to flights of fancy and absurd logic.

Biography

Shizuka was born to a successful merchant (and his bodyguard wife) in a sleepy Doman village. Fuji-cho went many years without conflict. Even when the majority of Othard was under Doman occupation, Fuji-cho's isolated location and lack of incident let it slip under the radar. In a quiet, far-off place, beneath blue skies and wisteria blossoms, Shizuka trained to be a painter under the watchful eye of her teacher, Misao.
Over time, however, Garlean power grew, and soon not even Fuji-cho escaped the long hand of the Empire. Legions began to move in the area; soldiers and magitek were often left in the village despite the protests of the locals. Local farmers were pressured with tarifs and their lands were seized. Eventually, an Imperial delegation stopped in Fuji-cho during a journey and demanded the courtesy of local maidens for the night. Despite Shizuka's mother's best efforts- including forcibly scarring the girl's face and dressing her in her most ragged clothes- Shizuka was taken alongside several other girls to satisfy the officers.
For a place that had formerly enjoyed freedom, this was the last straw. Less than a bell after the girls were taken, the village was up in arms and launched a full-out assault on the Garleans inhabiting Fuji-cho. While the initial attack worked due to the element of surprise, the bloody battle lasted several days and was eventually quelled by the arrival of more Garlean forces. They burned Fuji-cho to the ground and salted the ashes that were left.
Shizuka was able to escape in all the chaos. Joining her were her brother and his lover, though the three of them soon became separated during the journey to Eorzea. She was forced to continue on alone. Stranded in a strange land, with no home or family to speak of, she began the process of rebuilding both her life and her faith in herself.
