Character

General

Thya'to Zhwan is best described by his reputation as a businessman: professional, shrewd, and somewhat reclusive. As the founder of Zhwan Brokerage Company, most of his time is spent running the company and driving profits, which seem to be the only things that bring him any real joy. While some of his associates might even call him friendly (at least, those that are useful to him), his employees might simply describe him as terrible, and prone to throwing fits when things don't quite go his way. However, being overly concerned with his reputation and appearing civilized and orderly, he is typically agonizingly polite, and often to the point of arrogance.

Appearance

While still fairly young by most standards, Thya'to's work and habits seem to have aged him rather quickly. Lines and creases have begun to form in the tired features of his pale, grey face, and he has more than a few grey hairs in his otherwise jet black hair. His physique is what one might expect from a man who spends most of his time chain-smoking and balancing accounts until the early hours of the morning: somewhat thin, but lacking any definition. Otherwise, he combs his hair and beard neatly, and his fashion sense seems limited to whatever signals his wealth. While somewhat tall for a Miqo'te, he would not be an imposing figure without his expensive clothes.

Behavior

Thya'to's social behavior varies and largely depends on who he is speaking with. He is surprisingly courteous and polite when in the company of several people, especially if they are respectful or useful to him. When alone with someone that has made even a minor mistake that impacts him at all (or, coincidentally, anyone on his payroll), he's tyrannical and sometimes violent, raising his voice well above its usual softness. Truly, the best way to get on his good side is to never do anything wrong. More importantly, it's best to avoid being another Miqo'te or a woman at all, since he seems to dislike both those things, and especially their combination.

Combat

General

Unless you count the abuse he directs at his employees, Thya'to isn't much of a fighter, or he keeps it quite secret. Born as a tribal Keeper, he likely has some ability to fight or use common hunting weapons, but certainly does not practice either. He often keeps decorative weapons on him, such as gilded daggers, and if nothing else, seems comfortable holding one casually. However, he is quite an avid reader, and it's not out of the realm of possibility that he is well-versed in arcana, though he's never displayed this ability.

  • Money (obviously)
  • Nighttime
  • Order
  • Other wealthy people
  • Sophistication
  • Laws (sometimes)
  • Familiarity
  • The ocean

Dislikes

  • "Uncivilized" people or behavior
  • Other Miqo'te
  • Women
  • His employees
  • Most people, probably
  • The sun
  • Tradition
  • Not getting his way

Hobbies/Talents

  • He's exceptionally good with numbers.
  • He's well-read in law and lore, but has little interest in fiction.
  • He doesn't go outside much if he can help it, but he seems to enjoy a bit of gardening. Strangely, he does this at night.
  • He enjoys smoking cigars, maybe too much, and he probably smells like a cribbage parlor.
  • Does work count as a hobby?

Other

  • He's quite intelligent, but his grasp on vocabulary seems lacking at times, as if he's trying a bit too hard.
  • He can be frighteningly tireless and unscrupulous in pursuing his goals, and things like rules and laws are for, you know, peasants.
  • He's probably never been described as kind or charitable, but he does rarely make compromises that likely can't be explained any other way.
  • While he seems to have no love for tradition, he's still averse to new approaches or technologies.
  • He doesn't seem to have any romantic inclinations at all. In fact, he seems disgusted by it. He loves money.

Relationships

Family

Thya'a Zhwan: Thya'to's older brother and apparently his opposite, they are frequently seen together, despite sharing hardly any interests or behaviors. Brotherhood seems to be one of the few norms that Thya'to respects, and he is protective of him, even if they don't quite get along.
Thya Zhwan: Presumably, this would be their mother, although Thya'to rarely speaks of her. He doesn't seem to hold her in high esteem, or think about her much at all.

Notable Employees

C'dhen Tia: Thya'to's favorite employee to scream at. They get along very poorly, and would probably not speak to each other if not for things like contracts. Despite this, he continues to employ him, perhaps because C'dhen is physically capable and asks few questions. At least, he accepts the answers he's given.
"Susan Brown": One of the newer employees, Susan continues to impress Thya'to, but he's incredibly suspicious of her. Despite being hired as an accountant, she surprises him with her business acumen, and makes him uncomfortable with her suggestion of certain, technically illegal business practices. Also, he thinks she uses a fake name.

Other

D'arca Ovraen: Thya'to seems to give this Miqo'te a pass, apparently impressed by how little he acts like one (that is to say, not at all like C'dhen). Though somewhat of a mystery, Thya'to seems to respect him, regarding him as intelligent and well-mannered, at least enough to let him lease a room from him and lend his company a much-needed air of legitimacy.
Hawu Jinjahl: Despite embodying just about every trait Thya'to hates, he has spoken with her on occassion. Perhaps confused and intrigued by her mannerisms, he finds himself strangely compelled to reveal more about himself than he typically would. Or he drank too much. Or she poisoned him.
Borasuul Malqir: Thya'to met with him and several other Au Ra on a whim, and received a box full of herbs for his trouble. It's a nice box, anyway.

Rumors

It appears increasingly unlikely that Zhwan Brokerage Company is as legitimate as it appears, although this is notoriously difficult to prove, not to mention unwise. Those with positive regard for it typically have upstanding reputations and saw large returns on their investments. Coincidentally, those outspoken about their negative opinions on Thya'to or his company are typically poor and disreputable--at least, they are now.

His disdain for other Miqo'te and women might be a result of his tribal upbringing, which he is intent on being as far removed from as possible, it seems.
